Passion

Strong, warm arms seemed to reach out of nowhere to scoop Bella up. "Jacob!" She laughed. "I wasn't expecting you to come over until much later on. I thought you were busy."

"So, I take it you're happy to see me?" He teased.

"I'm thrilled. But are you sure you can spare the time? What about Billy?" Bella asked the questions, but she didn't really care. All that mattered was that he was here, that they were together again. It felt like she hadn't seen him in so long, even though it had only been twenty-four hours.

Without answering her questions, Jacob carried her into the living room, kicking the front door closed behind him. He settled down in Charlie's empty recliner and placed Bella gently on his lap. "Where's the loved-up couple?" He asked, meaning her parents. He had been as surprised as anyone at Charlie and Renee's surprising reconciliation. It was taking a lot of getting used to. The pair of them were acting like loved up teenagers, much to Bella's disgust and Jacob's amusement.

"Out on another date." Bella rolled her eyes. "Bowling this time."

"Bowling?" Jacob snorted with laughter. He couldn't imagine the staid police chief bowling. In the short time they had been back together, Renee had mellowed him out a lot. She was encouraging him to try all sorts of new things.

"Yes, would you believe." Bella shook her head in disbelief. "Dad hasn't gone fishing in a week. There's actually room in the freezer for once."

Jacob lowered his head, thinking of Billy. His father was still feeling low after Rachel's departure. He was also seriously missing Charlie since he had reconnected with Renee. He was pleased for his friend, but also slightly depressed. He was used to having his bachelor buddy close at hand, ready to go on a fishing expedition at a moment's notice in order to distract him from his problems. With Harry gone and Charlie unavailable he was feeling lonely.

"I'm worried about dad." Jacob admitted to Bella, his brow furrowing with worry. "His health has improved since I've been in charge of his meds again, but his spirits are low. I think he sees Charlie moving on with his life and is a bit envious. I think he wishes he could do the same."

Bella watched Jacob's expression intently, wishing there was something she could do to ease his mind. He had enough to deal with already, he didn't need the added burden of worrying about his dad's welfare. Billy was like Charlie, in the way they had both remained devoted to their chosen partner in life. Charlie was getting a second chance with Renee, but Billy would never be afforded the same thing as Sarah had passed away long ago.

"I'll talk to my dad." She promised. "I'll get him to take Billy out fishing or something."

"Thanks." Jacob brightened up a little at her suggestion. "Sue Clearwater is keeping him company today. That's why I felt comfortable leaving him for a while."

"Sue's a good woman."

"She is." Jacob agreed. "She misses Harry something fierce, but she covers it up well."

His lips found Bella's then and she could hardly breathe as he kissed her. Disjointed thoughts ran through her mind: He has so much responsibility. I want to help him. Ooh, his lips feel so good.

"I have missed you so much." Jacob murmured between kisses.

His skin was so warm, all Bella wanted to do was touch him, skin to skin without any annoying clothing in the way. She raised his t-shirt over his head and tossed it across the room, before following up with a trail of heated kisses up his chest. Jacob shivered in response.

"Your turn." Jacob's voice was almost unrecognizable. So deep. So, husky.

He lifted Bella's shirt; she didn't know what he did with it because she could only concentrate on his hands on her body, his lips on the tops of her breasts as she struggled to breathe. At some point her bra disappeared, Jacob kissed her breasts, his skillful tongue teasing each nipple in turn.

Bella felt his desire, his need. It was matched by her own. Each movement shifted them closer together, until she was pressed tight against him. Breathing rapidly, as if she couldn't get the air into her lungs quick enough, Bella pulled away to unfasten his jeans, taking charge and massaging him with one hand as she pushed his jeans down as far as she could. It was the boldest thing she had ever done. It felt good, taking control. Empowering.

Jacob's response was immediate. He lifted her up, pressing his thighs against her and off the recliner. Moving her arms behind her, Bella used the opportunity to yank his jeans away completely. He was hard and ready for her, pressed against her belly. It made her breath hitch, made her want him more. Jacob kissed her hungrily, lifting her again so she could unfasten and kick off her own jeans. They went the same place as her bra and shirt. With one hand, Jacob yanked her panties down.

"Condoms, Jake?" Bella gasped.

"Shit! Yeah!" Jacob's dark eyes were unfocused. "I've got some in the car."

"Well go and get them." Bella whined as she reluctantly peeled herself off him. "And hurry!"

Jacob had never moved so fast in his life. Even when he was running as a wolf. He dragged his jeans back on, not even bothering to do up the zip, he hurried outside, nearly ripping off the door to his Jeep in his haste to grab the condom packet out of the dash.

It was lucky the street was deserted and there were no witnesses to see him moving at superhuman speed.

As soon as he was back inside, Jacob shucked his jeans off, leaving them abandoned by the front door as he sprinted back to Bella. He reached for her, kissing her again, his fingers exploring between her legs, his thumb finding her nub and pressing in little circles against it. Bella arched her back as something inside her body seemed to explode. She struggled to breathe and realized Jacob was watching mesmerized as her breasts heaved with each breath. She laughed, reaching for his shoulders, shifting in his lap, eager to have him inside her.

Jacob could sense Bella's urgency and his hands crept over her hips. He lifted her up, the recliner rocking under their joint weight. Bella helped him on with the condom before she guided him to her entrance. He lowered her gently over him and she let her weight carry her down on him as he began to thrust upwards.

Bella held onto his wide shoulders tightly, feeling the traction of their wild movements building up inside her. She marveled at the taut muscles of his back and shoulders underneath her fingertips. Over and over, he pushed into her, filling her, exploring her, his skin warm against hers.

Bella felt the pleasurable burning beginning inside her. She quivered around him, the ache inside almost too much. His fingers found her nub again and her nerve endings tingled, her whole body trembling at his touch. She shivered in delight at each thrust of his hips. She felt a similar tremor run through him and knew his own climax was close. She tightened around him and watched his face as he emitted a deep groan of satisfaction. Bella pressed harder against him, taking him in deeper. That one movement tipped her over the edge. With his fingers still working their magic at the same time, she quaked violently against him, her head thrown back, eyes closed as she completely lost herself in the moment.

Jacob soon followed, his forehead falling onto her shoulder, his hands spanning her waist, gripping tightly. They held onto each for a long time, both breathing hard, lips meeting from time to time as they came down from their high.

"Wow, I am never going to look at Charlie's recliner in the same way again." Jacob laughed quietly.

Edward leaned back against the soft snowbank, letting the dry powder reshape itself under his weight. His skin had cooled to match the air around him, and the tiny pieces of ice felt like velvet under his skin.

The sky above him was clear, brilliant with thousands of stars. It was as if God had sprinkled them so sugar-sweet upon the most perfect of black birthday cakes. It was all so exquisitely beautiful.

Edward had been in Denali for a while now. It had been a slow process but he was slowly beginning to recover from his breakdown. Here, in the empty Denali wilderness, he was able to reflect on the events which led up to his moment of madness.

When he stared up at the jeweled sky, it was as if there was an obstruction between his eyes and its beauty. The obstruction covered the whole sky, its human face, with its pale complexion, long, straight, dark brown hair, with the unique chocolate brown eyes and heart shaped face lingered in his mind, tormenting him. He couldn't banish the image if he tried.

"Oh, Bella." He sighed. "Oh, my heart's darling."

He heard the approaching thoughts before he heard the footsteps that accompanied them. The sound of movement was only a faint whisper across the snow.

Edward sighed, knowing his privacy was going to be invaded again. He was not surprised that Tanya had followed him there. She had been ecstatic upon his arrival with Carlisle, flirting outrageously with him at every opportunity they were alone. Edward was beginning to think that Carlisle was quietly engineering the whole thing, trying to get him to see a future beyond one with Bella.

Well, it was a project doomed to fail.

Tanya sprang into sight, leaping onto the tip of an outcropping of black rock. Her skin was silver, luminous in the starlight, and her long, blond curls shone pale almost pink with their strawberry tint. She was beautiful, certainly, in her own way. Much like Rosalie in a way. But like Rosalie's type of beauty had never appealed to him, neither did Tanya's.

"There you are, Edward." Tanya chimed, coming to sit down gracefully beside him. "What are you doing all the way out here?"

"Just admiring the beauty of the night." Edward answered grudgingly.

Tanya's mouth twisted down at his disinterested tone. "Irina and Kate said I should leave you alone. They think I'm annoying you."

Edward did not bother to dispute their opinion.

"But Carlisle thinks differently."

Of course, he does, Edward thought irritably.

"You need to lighten up. Forget about the human. She's forgotten about you." Tanya said, fluffing her blonde curls. "Open your eyes and see what is right in front of you, Edward."

"You're a thousand times lovelier than the stars, Tanya. Of course, you're already aware of that." Edward sighed. "But…." He let his voice drift off, his insipid gaze turning back toward the sky and Bella's imagined face.

"I'm not used to rejection." Tanya pouted.

"I feel horrible for toying with your expectations, Tanya."

"Oh, shut up, Edward. You really are a bore at times." Tanya rose like a whirlwind, moving away from his side so fast her form was a blur. "I only really came here to deliver a message."

"What message?"

Edward immediately began delving into her mind before she even had a chance to answer. What he saw froze him in place like an Adonis statue, his eyes wide with horror.

Tanya stared at him, her amber eyes blazing with indignation at his continued disinterest in her. "Yes, it should frighten you." She sneered. "Aro is coming to pay you a visit personally. He wants to check that you are not going to renege on your promise to change that pathetic human girl you are so attached to. I wish you good luck, Edward. You are going to need it."

After that parting comment, she ran away, ghosting across the snow so quickly that her feet left no mark.
