The State Verses Derek Morgan-Ch 8
When Hotch and Mia got back to the BAU they saw the rest of the team working hard, they had all of the cases that Derek had been involved with spread out over several tables in the round table room and were working feverishly trying to find something, anything that might help them prove Derek's innocence.
Mia looked and saw two different piles of files, Reid looked up and said, "these are the cases that are least likely to have anybody come after Derek or Garcia and these" as he pointed to the other piles, "well these are more likely". Mia said, "why do you think these are more likely?", JJ said, "because Morgan and or Garcia were vital in the solving of these cases and these are the more violent cases and these the less violent cases" as he pointed to several other stacks.
Dave said, "so right now we're nowhere?", Emily said, "yeah, pretty much but at least we're looking and trying to narrow things down a little", Hotch said, "we don't have much time, his trial starts in 3 weeks and we still have to plan a funeral for Garcia". JJ looked up and said, "me, Em and Fran will handle the arrangements", she looked at the men and then said, "if that's alright?", Hotch said, "of course it's alright, besides Morgan the three of you know more about what she would like".
Emily said, "I still can't believe that she's gone", JJ said, "yeah, me either" she looked up and tears were starting to slide down her cheeks, she said, "why Garcia, why do that her, she never hurt anybody, she's one of the kindest, sweetest people in the world". Dave said, "that's why I'm leaning toward the unsub is going after Derek", Reid said, "I agree because anybody that knows Morgan knows that his world rotates around Garcia and what better way to destroy Derek then do this to him".
Mia said, "exactly", Hotch said, "I'm not following you Mia", Mia said, "this unsub knows Derek and knows that she's his weakness and that the main way to hurt Derek is to hurt Penelope, soooo, we need to focus on the cases in which the unsubs knew Derek and or Garcia and go from there".
Hotch said, "that's a good idea", Reid said, "on it" and then he went to the board and grabbed a marker and started writing the cases down in which either Derek or Penelope knew the unsub or somebody closely related to one of the unsubs. Mia said, "uhhhhh Aaron what is he doing?", Hotch said, "he has an eidetic memory, he has an IQ of 187 and can read over 20,000 words a minute and he can memorize both what he sees and what he hears".
Mia looked over at Reid and smiled, she said, "he's amazing", JJ grinned and said, "that's Spence for ya", Mia looked at Hotch and said, "I've heard that people with eidetic memories have vivid mental images, is that true?", Hotch said, "it is, I can't tell you how many cases have been solved because of Spencer, he's one of the best agents I've ever seen", JJ, Emily and Dave nodded their heads in agreement and then went back to looking for the files that Reid was writing down on the board.
As Mia looked around the room she couldn't help but smile, she was smiling because Derek and Penelope's friends were doing everything in their power to find the person that killed their friend and set up Derek to take the fall and with the amount of love going into their efforts she had no doubt at all that they would find the unsub and make them pay for everything they did to Penelope and to Derek.
When Reid was done writing down all of the files he turned around and said, "that's 89 files", Mia said, "so we need to focus on these 89 files and do our research and do background checks and see where the family members are to all of these cases". Hotch looked at JJ and said, "JJ, I need for you to get me an analyst", she nodded her head and said, "on it" and walked out of the room with her cell in her hand.
Dave said, "at a time like this we need kitten and right now she's the only one that we can't call on", Reid looked up and said, "wait, I know somebody that might be able to help us", Hotch said, "who Spencer, who is it because we need all of the help that we can get", Reid blew out a deep breath and said, "Shane, we need Shane".
