The State Verses Derek Morgan Ch 18
JJ and Emily climbed out of their SUV and made their way slowly toward the front door of the funeral home, ohhhhh they hated those words, funeral and home, how could they be doing this, why, why her when she had so much to live for. Emily stopped and said, "I can't do this, I can't Jayje, I'm sorry, I thought I could but I can't, I just can't" as she dropped down onto her knees in front of her best friend and started crying.
Emily felt two arms wrapping around her and she heard JJ said, "I don't want to do this either Em, but, this is the last thing that we can do for her, we can show her how much we love her", Emily looked at her and said, "I know that here" as she pointed to her head and then she said, "but here, right here can't accept that she's gone" as she pointed to her heart".
JJ said, "she was an amazing person but some sick bastard took her away from us, why, why why?" as she hit the ground with her fist, she said it over and over, "why her, why herrrr" as she broke completely down in her best friends arms. Emily and JJ held each other close for a few minutes and gave each other the solace they needed, they had all lost an amazing person, a person that wanted nothing more than to help people and doing this for her, even though it's hard is something that needs to be done.
When the girls finally calmed down they finally got up off of the ground and walked hand in hand inside to make funeral arrangements for their best friend, their shining star, their oracle, their Penelope. The funeral director looked at the broken hearted women and said, "I am so sorry for your loss, Penelope was an amazing woman", JJ said, "you knew her?", the man smiled and said, "I did, she was an amazing help to me when my wife died".
Emily said, "so you were in her support group?", the man smiled and said, "I was and I don't know what I would have done without her or her group, they were there for me when nobody else was and they were there for me when I needed them the most". JJ said, "that was Penelope for ya, she always tried to do what was best for everybody", Emily nodded her head and said, "that she did Jayje, that she did" as they spent the next couple of hours doing the one thing they never thought they would have to, they were making funeral arrangements for Penelope Grace Garcia".
While they were making the funeral arrangement JJ and Emily decided that they needed to tell Henry and Jack about Penelope because they were always talking about her and asking where she was because they missed her. Emily looked at JJ and said,"we need to let Spencer and Hotch know what we're going to do, they need to know", JJ said, "we'll call them as soon as we're done here" and a few minutes later after completing the funeral arrangements Emily and JJ walked out of the funeral home the same way they walked in, hand in hand .
When they got into the SUV JJ pulled out her cell and put it on speaker, she hit number 2 and waited for Reid to answer, after two rings he said, "Jayje are you alright?", she said, "no Spence, I'm far from alright but we need to talk to you and Aaron". Reid said, "hang on and I'll get him", Reid walked over to Hotch and said, "JJ and Em need to talk to us", Dave said, "go ahead, I'll be here with Shane", the two men nodded their heads as they walked out of the round table room and headed to Hotch's office so they could have some privacy.
After closing the door Reid said, "okay Jayje, what do you need to talk to us about?", Emily said, "JJ and I want to tell the boys about Penelope, they need to know because every time we see them they keep asking about her". Reid looked at Hotch and Hotch said, "I agree Em", Reid said, "so do I, so do I", JJ said, "we're going to head home, it's time for the boys to get out of school and we'll try to get back if we can but if the boys take it bad like I'm afraid they will, we won't be back tonight"".
Hotch said, "do what you need to do, don't worry about us", Reid said, "do you want us to be with you when you tell them?", JJ said, "no, we can do it but we need you to do something", Hotch said, "what, what do you need us to do?", JJ said, "find the sick bastard that did this and make them bleed before taking them to jail", Reid looked at Hotch as Hotch said, "deal JJ, deal", before the call ended Emily said, "we love you both", Reid and Hotch in unison said, "we love you too".
After the call ended JJ said, "I think we're gonna need backup on this", Emily said, "me too, are you thinking who I'm thinking?", JJ nodded her head and the women in unison said, "Fran" as they pulled away from the funeral home to go pick up the boys and take then to Frans because they are going to need their grandma's love after this and Fran's going to need them just as much.
