Book 4
Siha: Rise of Rakhana
Part II
There were moments when they wondered if she was really alive…Really there, bound to the ground on which they walked, slept, fought and made love on…Everything seemed to be right when they found her at the Kir, and the soul possessing her had passed out upon the strike of Thane's knife…so it seemed to be…
Casnar awoke next to her. His wife of fourteen years…He was older, wiser but still virile enough to clutch her in a bed, go a few rounds with her…She looked the same…always looked the same, she did…damn her…damn him, others said when and if they saw them together…
"Casnar, where you going…"
He was out of bed, checking the door again. "I thought I heard something, sorry," he crawled back into bed and gripped her tightly in his arms…Casnar sniffed her neck, immediately she humming at his affectionate collection of her scent. She strokes his forearm. His hand in front of her belly, swollen with his child.
"Not right now." His hand made circles around the swell of her abdomen lower down, taking that hard lump of her belly—the head or the shoulder of his yet to be born child—into his palm.
"Relax," he murmurs into her hair, taking her hand with his, holding this to his nose. "I'm just happy to be alive with you, Braith." He closes his eyes. He can't sleep…
He knows out there, beyond the windows and walls of this secret place, they are looking for them, and when they find them…who knows what will happen to him, but to the child, to Braith…A shiver runs through his spine.
Second Path…
There are no more resurrections. What is written in the path shall hold true, and the one way is clear…The future is at odds with the past. Braith, pregnant with a child who will destroy the universe, will Casnar's unstoppable arrogance be enough to protect them?…Or only get them killed…
