"Kara, wake up." Her sister said.

"Alex?" Kara asked breathing heavily. "What happened?"

"You were having a nightmare."

"Sorry."

"Why are you apologising?" Alex asked.

"I just woke you up."

"I think you are focusing on the wrong thing." Alex said. "What happened?"

"You know how I said the truth seeker hybrid guy made me re-live some memories?" Kara asked.

"Yes."

"Ever since then I keep having dreams about those memories."

"Dreams or nightmares?" Alex asked.

"Normally dreams. Just now, definitely a nightmare." Kara said.

"Want to talk about it?"

"It wasn't anything specific, not exactly anyway. I was dreaming about when I found out Fels was dead and then finding out I was pregnant and the fear of being alone."

"You're not alone anymore." Her sister reminded her.

"I know."

"You going to be able to sleep?"

"No." Kara said sitting up. "I'm going for a walk."

"Not by yourself you're not." Alex said sitting up.

"You don't have to come with me."

"I know. But I am still going." Alex said pulling on some shoes. Noticing her sister head for the window she asked. "What are you doing?"

"I was going to fly us down."

"We are not teenagers sneaking out of the house." Alex pointed out heading to the door.

"When I was inside the pocket dimension with Mongul there was a cliff face." Kara said as she walked along the moonlit beach with her sister. "I was driven to climb it. I don't know why. But something inside me told me the way to freedom was up that rock face. So I climbed. Which in the freezing cold and without powers was not fun. But I just knew I had to. So I did and I was climbing up when Mongul caught up with me. He grabbed my leg. I tried fighting him off but we both lost our holds and fell to the ground. I got lucky, kind of, I landed on top of Mongul so didn't get hurt. But I was back at the bottom and I had to start climbing again. So I did. But once again Mongul caught me. I got stuck in this loop of climbing and falling. Chasing a goal I didn't even understand. But it was all I could do, so I kept doing it. But now that just feels like a metaphor for my life. It is one struggle after another and it just feels like I am continually falling and I don't even know why I am trying to climb anymore. What if it is the wrong direction?"

"Do you remember that hologram I gave you just after you came out as Supergirl?" The adult Alex asked.

"Yes."

"Remember what your mom said? She said there was no right path, and that you would lose your way, but that was okay. The only thing that matters is staying true to yourself."

"I don't even know what that means anymore. Besides I think Aptill stayed true to himself and look what happened to him." Kara said.

"It was an accident." Alex said.

"I know. But it just seems so unfair. Life seems unfair."

"Maybe what you need is a complete break." Alex said.

"What do you mean?"

"Why don't we leave the kids here with mom, and go and do something? We could go meet up with Sam and Lena."

"And go to karaoke?" Kara suggested.

"I'd actually pay to see Lena Karaoke." Alex said.

"Where are the kids?" The adult Alex asked as she and Kara walked into the kitchen a few hours later.

"They've gone out." Eliza said.

"They have?" Alex asked confused. "But it is nine o'clock. What is MJ even doing awake at this time?"

"I don't know. But they seemed pretty keen to go." Eliza said.

"They're up to something." Alex said.

"Don't be so paranoid." Eliza smiled as she put pancakes on the table. "Where have you been?"

"We went for a walk." Alex said. "We wanted to talk to you about something."

"Sounds ominous." Eliza said, unwittingly mimicking Alex's earlier paranoia.

"I guess that kind of depends how much you like your grandkids." Alex said before asking. "Can you look after the kids for a couple of days?"

"Of course. Where are you going?"

"We thought we'd have a girls weekend with Lena and Sam." Alex said.

"That sounds like a good idea. Don't worry, I'll keep the kids out of trouble." Eliza smiled. Seeing Kara hadn't touched her pancakes she added. "Alex will be fine."

When Kara didn't respond Alex asked. "Kara?" Getting no response she repeated louder. "Kara?"

"Sorry what?" Kara asked looking up.

"You okay?" Alex asked frowning.

"Sure."

"Very convincing." Alex sad dryly.

"What's wrong?" Eliza asked.

"By now he will be back on Dakran. He could be telling them about Alex." Kara said leaving Eliza confused. But knowing she was referring to the bounty hunter who had captured her Alex reminded her.

"Even if he does, that doesn't mean they'll care. And if they do come here we will protect both of you."

"Maybe this weekend is a bad idea. I mean what if they come when I'm not here?" Kara asked.

"Everyone here has an alarm. First sign of trouble someone will call." Alex said.

"The kids will be fine." Eliza promised Kara. "You need a break."

"But that's the thing, apart from when J'onn brought Alex to Earth and when I was getting treatment I've never gone away from Alex." Kara said, suddenly having many doubts about the weekend.

"Think of it as practice for college." Her sister said. "A few days off will do you some good."

-00-

"Where have you been?" Alex asked as the three teens came back in.

"Walking Chewie." MJ answered.

"So early?" The adult Alex asked. "And for so long?"

"Well you two kind of woke us up leaving the house at four this morning." The teenage Kara said.

"Sorry." The adult Kara said. "That was me." She then looked at her sister and said. "Told you we should have flown out of the window."

"Well you three must be starving." Eliza said looking at her grandchildren. "Why don't I make you some breakfast or I guess brunch?" Seeing them nod she said. "It will be ready in thirty minutes."

"In which case why don't we go for a walk?" Kara suggested to her daughter.

"Okay." The teen Alex said, worrying about what her mother wanted to talk about.

-00-

"So what were you really up to this morning?" Kara asked her daughter as they walked down the beach with Chewie.

"Just walking Chewie." The teen answered. "Kara was showing us some of her favourite spots. Why were you up so early?"

"I had a nightmare." Kara said. "And I needed to clear my head."

"Are you okay?"

"I am. But Alex thought that it would be a good idea if she and I met up with Sam and Lena this weekend." Kara said.

"Okay."

"So we'd be staying with Sam, while you stay here with your cousins."

"For how long?" Alex asked clearly uneasy with the idea.

"A couple of days. But if you don't want me to go I won't."

"It's fine." The teenager said.

"Your words say one thing and your tone another." Kara pointed out.

"It's fine."

"You know what? I'm going to cancel." Kara said.

"No." The teenager said. "You should go. I'm just going to miss you."

"I will miss you too." Kara said hugging her. "And if you miss me too much I can be here in less than twenty minutes."

"Okay."

-00-

"Alex didn't take it well?" The adult Alex asked as she joined her sister on the beach after brunch.

"Not at first, but she warmed to the idea. How about MJ and Kara?"

"They want to know why we haven't gone yet." Alex said.

"Now I don't know which one of us should feel worse." Kara commented. "Did you speak to Sam and Lena?"

"Yes. Lena will meet us there. Sam is arranging everything."

"That sounds scary." Kara said.

"And you haven't even heard what has made it onto the list."

"What's on the list?"

"I have been sworn to secrecy." Alex said. "But I promise you that you are going to have fun."

"I'm not sure I should go. I mean after everything Alex has been though I don't think I should go. It's not the right time."

"I get it. I really do. But it will never be the right time." Alex said. "And you have been through a lot too. But I am not going to force you into it. It's got to be your choice. What I can say is if you go Sam will never let you be the same."
