A/N: Thank you for the reviews.

Jennifer Baratta - Alex isn't entirely to blame, but the truth starts to come out in this chapter.

"Where were you last night?" The older Kara said as she met up with her sister the next day.

"I was working. I somehow turned my phone off. Then lost track of time. Thank you for being with Kara last night."

"Of course, but she is really ticked with you." The older Kara warned.

"I know she waited up to tell me that." Alex said.

"And this morning?"

"She was gone before I got up." Alex sighed. "And that was even with me getting up early so I could apologise. I don't know how I am going to make it up to her."

"You'll figure it out." Her sister assured her. "But are you okay? I mean no matter how busy work gets you always prioritise the kids. To work straight through last night and miss a school meeting isn't like you. Plus you look terrible and you are scowling."

"I'm fine. Just can't shake this headache." Seeing Kara's frown she said. "It's nothing. I'm just tired."

"So you are not going to work tonight. Tonight you will be home by six and make things right with Kara."

"Pretty sure it won't be that simple." Alex said.

"But you will try." Kara replied.

"Of course. But I have no idea how."

"I'll be right with you." Kara assured her.

"Where's your sister?" Alex asked as she entered the house early that evening.

"With Diz. She's still mad with you." MJ said.

"I guessed." Alex said.

"So how are you making it up to her and me."

"Why you?"

"I have to deal with the fallout."

"If you put as much effort into your school work and you do into playing angles you might actually get good grades." Alex said.

"Maybe, but you have not answered the question."

"Well your sister needs to talk to me in order to give her anything."

"I can arrange that for a fee."

"I'm sure you can." Alex said as her phone buzzed.

"You going out again?" He guessed.

"Yes. Sorry. Can you hang out with your cousin tonight?"

"Sure."

"I'll see you later." Alex said leaving.

-00-

"Hi MJ." Kara said as she entered the apartment and saw her daughter and nephew playing video games.

"Mom had to work. She told me to hang out here." MJ said.

"Where's Kara?"

"With Diz."

"So it is just the three of us?" Kara asked.

"Yes."

"Then why don't we go out?"

"It's a school night." Alex answered.

"So we will do something educational." Kara said drawing a look of horror from MJ.

"Like what?" Alex asked.

"Why don't we go out and get some food and then go to the Planetarium?" Kara suggested.

"Really?" MJ asked sounding enthusiastic.

"Absolutely." Kara smiled.

"What are you doing?" Lena asked entering her personal lab and seeing Alex standing in front of a computer the next day.

"Lena? I though you were out of the city?" Alex said turning round.

"My meeting finished early so I came back last night. What are you doing here?" Seeing Alex was looking at MRI results she asked. "Is Kara okay?"

"She's fine."

"Then why are you looking at an MRI scan?"

"It's mine." Alex sighed.

"Are you okay?" Lena asked frowning.

"Apparently." Alex said looking at the scan.

"What's going on?"

"I've been getting really bad headaches." Alex said. "And I'm finding it hard to concentrate and I'm forgetting things."

"Why come here, rather than an actual doctor?" Lena asked.

"I didn't want Kara to know. I mean she has enough to stress about. If I made an actual appointment she would find out. Then the kids would find out."

"What tests have you run?" Lena asked.

"Bloods and MRI. Everything is normal."

"It could be stress." Lena pointed out.

"Maybe."

"When was the last time you got a decent amount of sleep?"

"No idea."

"Why don't we do something this weekend? Take your mind off everything." Lena suggested.

"I appreciate the offer, but I don't have time." Alex said as her phone rang. "Speaking of. I have to go."

"Where have you been?" Supergirl asked when Alex finally showed up for work.

"I stopped by the pharmacy to pick up something for my head." She lied.

"It's still bad?" Supergirl asked frowning.

"It is just a headache." Alex assured her.

"Which a doctor can confirm."

"If I am still bad next week I will see a doctor." Alex said. "But I am sure there is nothing to worry about."

"Ma'am a meta has shown up and is attacking a group in the park." Harris said approaching the pair.

"On it." Supergirl said flying off.

"Get me visuals." Alex ordered entering the command room.

"These are the feeds from the park." Rose said.

"Why are they just standing still?" Alex asked seeing several people on the screen, all looking scared, standing in place.

"I'm not sure they can move." Supergirl said over the radio.

"What do you mean?" Alex asked.

"He is spitting slime, it is really sticky." Supergirl said as the DEO watched on the screen as Supergirl got covered in slime. "And super gross." She added shaking off the slime and approaching one of the bystanders who was covered in slime.

"We have a problem, it's hardening." Supergirl said over the radio pulling away at the stiffening slime on the person's legs.

Once they were free Supergirl turned her attention to the slime spitting meta only to find herself once again being sprayed with slime, only this time it started to harden much quicker.

"You okay?" Alex asked over the radio.

"No longer liking Slimer." Supergirl said breaking through the solid slime before approaching the meta once more only to see him turn into a slimey puddle.

"What's going on?" Alex asked.

"He just slimed out." Supergirl exclaimed.

"What?"

"He tuned into a giant slosh of slime." Supergirl explained.

"Hazmat team will be there soon." Alex said.

-00-

"You okay?" Alex asked as her sister entered her office.

"No that was gross." Kara said, her hair still damp from the shower. "What happened to him?"

"Don't know. It looks like his cells lost the ability to bind. But we are still investigating. Good news is the slime wasn't toxic." Alex said. "You sure you are okay?"

"Fine."

"Go home and get some rest." Alex said.

"What about you?"

"I need to finish up some paperwork. I'll head home later."

"Fine, but if you aren't back by eight I will fly you home myself."

"Hi guys." Kara greeted walking into the lounge where four teenagers were noses down in books. "You guys have a test tomorrow or something?"

"You're back." The teenage Alex said before hugging her mother. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine." Kara promised her. "So what's with the studying?"

"Report due." The teenage Kara said as MJ, Alex and Diz said. "Surprise tests tomorrow."

"Where's mom?" MJ asked.

"Still at work. She said to eat without her. So any preferences?"

"Something we can do work with while eating." The teenage Kara said. "And can you help me with this?" The teenage Kara asked.

"What is it?"

"English homework. King Lear and modern day analogies."

"Sure. Let me sort some food first." The older Kara said. "Why don't I pick up some burgers and fries?"

"I'll come with you." The teenage Alex said causing MJ and Diz to say.

"No." Before MJ added.

"You can't go, I need more help. We need more help."

"I need a break." The teenage Alex said.

"Whimp." MJ muttered.

"We'll be back soon." The older Kara assured them as she led Alex and Chewie out of the house.

"Everything okay?" Kara asked her daughter.

"I'm fine. What about you? You kinda took a sliming."

"That was nothing." Kara said. "And you need to stop watching the news."

"Not what we're told at school."

"I promise you I'm fine. If I wasn't would your aunt have let me come home?"

"If you were really fine you'd be helping Alex at the DEO rather than being here."

"Your aunt is just doing paperwork." Kara countered. "You have to stop worrying so much, it isn't healthy. Besides I worry enough for both of us."

Slowly coming to the adult Alex realised she had no idea where she was. Opening her eyes only added to that when she found herself looking into a blurry world before making out two shadowy figures. Not sure what was happening she tried to move only to find she couldn't. Blinking rapidly she tried to get her eyes to focus and eventually figured out she was inside a van. But her blinking and groaning also drew the attention of the shadowy figures.

"You have been interfering in a very profitable business. A business that has been a whole less profitable since you got involved." One of the men said leaning towards Alex. A man she recognised, but she wasn't sure from where. "Normally we'd arrange some sort of elaborate accident. Like with your wife. But with you it is much easier. Former drunk, falling off the wagon. Dying in a ball of flames. All very believable. And we have the benefit that your family will lose all respect for you." He continued as Alex tried to place his accent, before he pulled Alex's head back and poured whiskey down her throat.

He then dragged her out of the van and put her back in her car where he strapped her into the driver's seat before tossing the empty whiskey bottle onto the passenger seat.

Content he backed away only to be replaced by another man who took Alex's arm and said.

"You have been more difficult than I thought. You were already broken, but yet you resisted. But no more." He then shut his eyes for a moment before backing away and looking at the first man.

"It's done."

Smiling the first man approached the car again and started the engine before shutting the door.
