Jennifer Baratta - No her luck is running at an all time low.
As soon as Alex entered the house her teenage namesake asked.
"Have you found mom?"
"Yes."
"Where is she?" The teen asked looking round her aunt, hoping her mother was there.
"At Lena's lab." Alex said looking at her kids and indicating they should go upstairs, which they duly did.
"Is she hurt?" The teenage Alex asked.
"In a way." Alex said, indicting for her niece to sit down. Once she had, she explained. "The person who took her changed her memories. She is convinced you are dead."
"But when I see her she'll know that's not true."
"I thought that. But Frax is convinced that she will believe the implanted memories and assume you are an imposter or an hallucination. If that happens she may try to hurt you."
"I don't care I want to try."
"I know." Alex said. "But you need to be ready for you mom not being herself."

"We've turned on the red lamps, just in case." The older Alex said to her niece as they arrived at Kara's room. "But let me know if they make you feel sick."
"Are they making mom sick?" She asked frowning.
"No. They have just removed her powers temporarily. But you are different and we have never really tested what happens to you under red light."
"Okay." The teen said.
"And remember whatever happens in there your mom loves you." Alex said. "And J'onn and I will be right there with you."
"Okay." The teen said.
Alex then looked at J'onn who nodded before opening the door to Kara's room where she lay on the bed, her back to the door, curled up in the fetal position.
"Mom." Alex called, but she got no response. So she stepped forward and called again. "Mom."
This time the word caused Kara to hold her hands over her ears.
Carefully, with her aunt shadowing her every move the teenager walked round the bed so she could see her mother's face and once again called.
"Mom." She then reached out to touch her mother, as she did so Kara's eyes flew open and she screamed.
"Get away from me."
The command so forceful the teenage Alex took a step back before composing herself.
"Ieiu, it's me." Alex said before breaking into a language neither Alex or J'onn understood. The use of an alien language for a moment looked like it was enough to break through, but then Kara launched herself at the teen only for J'onn to restrain her as the older Alex acted as a shield to her niece.
"Let's get out of here." The adult Alex said ushering her niece out of the room as Kara flailed and screamed in J'onn's arms.
Once they were at the door the older Alex said. "Wait next door I will be there in a minute."
Nodding the teen went to the other room and paced until her aunt returned.
When the older Alex entered the room she immediately drew her niece in for a hug and said. "It will be okay."
"Is mom-"
"She's sedated." The older Alex said. "She is like that because she is convinced you are dead."
"What do we do now?"
"I'm working on." Alex said as J'onn entered the room. "Stay with J'onn I will be back in a moment."

"Looks like you were right." Lena said to Frax as they observed Kara's behaviour on the monitor.
"I wish I wasn't." He said.
"Is there no way to help her?"
"None that I have seen work. But then again … there is something, but it is risky."
"We have nothing to lose." Lena pointed out.
"The risk is to Alex not us." Frax said just as the older Alex came back in.
"Is Alex in danger?" The older Alex asked frowning picking up the comment.
"No." Frax said. "I was saying there may be one way to help, but it may put Alex in danger."
-00-
"Have you figured out how to help her?" The teen asked as her aunt came back into the room a short while later.
"Frax came up with something that could help her. But we need you."
"Okay." The teen said.
"Not so fast." The adult Alex said. "It could be dangerous for both you and your mom."
"But it could help her?"
"It might. But it might not."
"But you don't have any other ideas?"
"No." The older Alex confessed.
"So what's the idea?" The teen asked.
"Duggin implanted memories of you dying. Those memories will have been perfectly constructed, apart from one thing. Emotion."
"So I project memories and feelings?" The teen guessed.
"Yes."
"What if I get it wrong?"
"I don't know. Neither does Frax. That's why you need to think carefully before you agree to do anything."
"Can I talk to Frax? And J'onn?" The teen asked.
"Of course." Alex said.

"Alex can't read thoughts can she?" Lena asked as she joined the older Alex who was pacing in the main lab.
"No. Why?"
"No reason, but it is a good thing. You are putting me on edge as it is." Lena pointed out.
"I hate waiting and I have a bad feeling about this."
"Alex was adamant she wanted to try." Lena reminded her.
"Of course she was, she's Kara's daughter. But I shouldn't have put her in that position."
"She has a right to know. And if you hid it from her she would never forgive you."
"If she gets hurt, Kara will never forgive me." The older Alex said as Frax entered the lab.
"Alex is ready." He said before seeing Alex's frown and said. "You are having second thoughts."
"This is a bad idea, If this goes wrong how will Alex take it? It's a lot to put on a kid." Alex said.
"Yes it is. But she's not any kid, she's Kara's daughter." Lena reminded her.
"Duggin has trained for years to do what he did. Alex has only even known about her powers for months." Frax started before Alex interrupted.
"It was your idea."
"I know. And I stand by it. But I don't want to see her get hurt if this fails."
"We all agree on that." Lena said.
"Do you think Alex is capable of doing what has to be done?" The older Alex asked Frax.
"What she just projected into my head was over powering." Frax said. "It is the best option, the only option we have."
-00-
"Okay, you need to project as many emotions as possible with the memory." Frax reminded Alex. "It will work best if your mother is awake. But she will fight you. Just try to think of one image and muster all the emotions you can. Just like we practiced."
"If you want to stop any time let me know." The older Alex said. "We'll all be right there with you."
"Okay." The teen said chewing nervously on her lip.
"You've got this." The older Alex smiled, trying to reassure her.
"I'm ready." The teen said causing Lena to turn the red lamps back on in Kara's room, before the group entered. Once again Kara was lying in the fetal position with her back to the door. But this time she said.
"Leave me alone."
Looking from her aunt to Frax and back Alex got reassuring nods and closed her eyes, concentrating on what she was trying to do.
Sensing someone placing images in her head Kara started to turn, ready to fight her attacker, but before she could J'onn grabbed hold of her. His proximity causing him to feel and see what the teenage Alex was projecting.
As Kara started to resist less, her sister watched on ready to act if needed. Suddenly Kara opened her eyes and looked round the room and asked.
"Is this real?"
"Yes, it's real." Her sister said as Frax supported the teenage Alex who looked like she was about to collapse from exhaustion.
"Alex?" Kara asked looking round. Seeing her daughter she asked. "You're alive?"
"Mom." The teen asked before Kara jumped off the bed and pulled her in for a hug.
"Mom." Alex cried into the hug.
"Are you okay?" Kara asked clinging to her still not fully believing what was happening, but finally feeling hope.

"What happened?" The older Alex asked when it was just her and her sister, the teenage Alex having been taken to another lab for tests.
"I saw things. I saw Alex die." Kara said bringing her knees up to her chest.
"Alex is fine." The older Alex said sitting next to her on the bed and pulling her sister in for a hug.
"I thought she died. It was so real." Kara said, tears running down her face.
"It wasn't real. Alex is fine."
"I know, but I lived through it. Or at least I thought it. I can still feel the hole in my heart, the darkness inside me."
Not knowing what to say Alex hugged her tighter and said. "Whatever you need I am here."
"I tried hurting her." Kara said suddenly pulling away. "I thought she was a trick and I -"
"You didn't hurt her and Alex understands what happened." Her sister said. For a moment Kara said nothing, instead she stared at her knees thinking. Then she looked up and asked.
"Where's Duggin?"
"In containment."
"I need to see him."
"Why?"
"To make him regret what he did." Kara said, feeling her anger grow.
"I don't think that is a good idea." Alex said as the door opened and the teenage Alex walked in.
"What's going on?" The teen asked frowning.
"Nothing. I was just making sure your mom was okay." The older Alex said hopping off the bed.
"Is she?"
"Yes, but I need you to do something for me."
"Sure, what?"
"Can you take your mom home?" Alex asked.
"Is that safe?" The teenager asked.
"Your mom is fine. But you both need to rest. And you'll do that better at home. And you both need to eat. I'll get Ruby to drive you home and I'll get Kara to bring you guys some pizza."
-00-
"You okay?" Kara asked sitting on the couch hugging her daughter.
"Fine." She said yawning, still feeling drained from projecting thoughts into her mother's head. "What about you?"
"Now I know you are safe I'm okay. But we've not had a chance to talk about what you did."
"When?"
"Earlier, at Lena's lab. You saved me. I'm so proud of you." Kara said. "But I am so sorry I tried to hurt you. I didn't mean to. I didn't think it was you. The person who took me had a power like yours, but he could share anything he thought of rather than an actual memory. And he shared you dying. I thought it was real."
"That's what you meant by you couldn't lose me again?"
"Yes." Kara confirmed.
"What did he want?"
"He thought your father knew where something valuable was and had told me."
"But he hadn't?"
"No. If he had I would have told them. But he didn't believe me."
"Are you still in danger?"
"The person who did this is at the DEO." Kara said hugging her tighter.
"Are you going to be able to sleep tonight?" The teen asked.
"Probably not. But I am going to hug you all night and that will make me feel better."
