Chapter Four

"Whoa… whoa!" squeaked Danielle, appearing at the Crossroads not too long after falling asleep, and trying to control the floating aspect that comes with it.

"You're back!" shouted Collector, tackling Danielle into a hug. "You actually came back!"

"Looks like this out of body is going to be a common thing being here on the isles," said Danielle, chuckling a bit while hugging Collector back. "Okay, I said we'd play a game the next time this happened and it's the next time. So… what do you want to play?"

"Hide and seek!" said Collector, a wide smile on his face before grabbing Danielle's hands and leading her towards the tablet. "But not here, not a good place to play."

"Wow," said Danielle, seeing Collector go through the tablet before placing her hand on it. "Can I even pass through as well?"

"Come on," said Collector, grabbing her hand and pulling her through. "See, like that."

"Sorprendente! So, I can pass through it as well," said Danielle, staring at the tablet then looking around the large room. "Where are we?"

"The Emperor's Castle, not too far away from Philip's room," replied Collector, before staring at Danielle. "So, who hides and who seeks?"

"I'll seek and you hide, how's that?" asked Danielle, before an idea popped in her head. "Want to make it more interesting?"

"Um… I don't know," replied Collector, not sure about it.

"We don't have too, just hear me out though okay," said Danielle, staring at Collector. "We could add rhyming to it."

"Huh… that actually does sound interesting," said Collector, actually liking what he was hearing.

"It would start after I stop counting, I start the rhyme and you pick it up, we'd go back and forth," said Danielle, seeing that Collector was interested the more he heard. "There's a small-time limit like say five seconds for the person to rhyme, if not, then if it was me, I'd cover my eyes and start counting again and you can find a new hiding spot."

"And if I can't find a rhyme?" asked Collector, staring at Danielle.

"Then you get to tell me if I'm close to finding you," replied Danielle, smiling. "Say whether I'm cold or hot."

"Yes! I love it!" said Collector, spinning in place. "Can we start?"

"Sure, though let's keep the rhyming in English," said Danielle, about to cover her eyes. "Though the counting can be in any language. Besides italian, I know polish and japanese."

"Okay!" shouted Collector, spinning in excitement before seeing Danielle cover her eyes. "This is going to be so fun!"

"Dieci nove otto sette sei cinque quattro tre due uno," said Danielle, counting backwards before starting her search. "Ready or not, here I come."

"Hehehe," giggled Collector, already in his hiding place.

"Tick tock," said Danielle, starting the rhyme.

"Oh, a clock!" replied Collector, the first thing to come to mind.

"Now where's the dock?" said Danielle, giggling herself.

"Around the block!" said Collector, seeing Danielle's back from where he was.

"Now, where's my sock?" said Danielle, peering under a table.

"Hehehe…" giggled Collector, before realizing the time limit passed. "You're warm. Wait… who starts the next rhyme?"

"I never did say, did I?" said Danielle, humming in thought. "Oh, I know! Very much like the rhyme, if I didn't get to the rhyme in time then it would be you to start the rhyme."

"I get it," said Collector, liking the game. "Since I couldn't rhyme in time… that means you start the rhyme again."

"Exactly. Now where to begin? Oh," said Danielle, thinking of the next rhyme. "There's a fox!"

"Has the pox," replied Collector, remembering a book a certain coven scout had on occasions.

"While in the box," said Danielle, pulling a curtain back.

"Playing with a toy ox," said Collector, holding his giggling back.

"He's quite the chatterbox," said Danielle, seeing movement in the shadows nearby.

"During an equinox!" said Collector, smiling before seeing that Danielle was not in view. "Huh…"

"Boo!" said Danielle, peering over the edge of a pillar. "Found ya."

"That was really fun!" said Collector, coming out of his hiding spot and smiling. "Rhyming made it even funnier!"

"That it did," said Danielle, glad to see that Collector was happy and smiling herself. "You seemed nervous when I suggested making the game interesting at the beginning."

"Yeah… Philip suggested adding interesting stuff to our games only to bail on me," said Collector, laying down on a table. "A lot, that is. But you didn't, you stayed and played. I know, I can teach you a spell."

"Remember what I said yesterday," said Danielle, pulling her hair behind her ear. "You don't have to teach me spells and stuff just to get me play with you."

"I know but I want to," said Collector, sitting up straight before sitting Indian style.

"I wouldn't know where to start," said Danielle, thinking before a certain question popped in her head. "I've always heard about mana and magic. They sound the same to me. Is there a difference?"

"It's more like you're asking mana to become magic," said Collector, staring at Danielle. "Mana is the energy that is all around you, around the whole universe. In the sea, the land, the sky, even in the air we breathe. When Mana is manipulated by any outside force, it is called Magic. A lot of worlds out there have it and some just can't access it cause their world won't allow it."

"I think I get it," said Danielle, trying to process it. "It's like… mmm… right now you're in shadow form but when exposed to Titan's blood and pulled back to this realm, you gain a physical form. Is it something along that line?"

"That's an interesting way of putting it," said Collector, before staring at the ceiling. "Manipulating mana without changing it to magic is extremely hard and taxing. Not many can do it if any at all."

"Brrr… did you just feel a chill?" asked Danielle, staring around the room before looking at the doors.

"Nope, can't really feel anything in this form," said Collector, before sitting upright. "Well, except for your hugs."

"That's strange…" said Danielle, still looking at the doors before looking at Collector. "Where should I start with magic?"

"Mmmm…" thought Collector, thinking before staring at Danielle. "I have a few questions."

"Okay," said Danielle, sitting down across from Collector. "I'll answer the best I can."

"Where do you think magic comes from?" asked Collector, looking Danielle in the eyes. "Not from what I just told."

"Hmmm…" thought Danielle, lightly scratching at her cheek. "I'd say the heart and imagination."

"Good answers," said Collector, tilting his head. "People here on the isles have a bile sac right next to their heart that regulates their magic but I'm assuming you were thinking something different. And you definitely need an imagination to know what you want your magic to be."

"Yeah…" said Danielle, blushing. "I watch a lot of animes and play a lot of games. I also read a lot as well. So… yeah… I'm pretty imaginative when I want to be. I also daydream a lot."

"Nothing wrong with that," said Collector, before wondering about something. "What's anime?"

"Remember that cube from yesterday when I tried explaining video games," said Danielle, seeing Collector nod his head yes. "Instead of playing games, you can watch various shows ranging from documentaries, to news from around the world, or something that is drawn then animated… kinda like a flipbook. Understand?"

"That actually sounds neat," said Collector, wanting to see one. "Can you show me when I get out?"

"Can do," said Danielle, wondering if her bag had one in it. "I'll have to check my bag and see if I have one in there. I'll show you my bag as well. It's unique."

"Okay, next question," said Collector, staring at Danielle. "What do you think is the first element?"

"Hmm… um…" said Danielle, thinking through the various ones she knew. "Light."

"Yes and no," said Collector, confusing Danielle. "It's actually a shared element. It's both light and dark. Both came into being at the same time. Everything out there is governed by both."

"I think I get where you're saying," said Danielle, thinking of the other elements. "The other elements afterwards can be both good and bad. Take the fire element, it can be destructive and harm its surroundings if out of control but when in control it can cook our foods and keep us warm."

"You have an interesting mind," said Collector, smiling. "Next question. What do you think of Light?"

"Bright, white, angels, god, Jesus, good, hope," said Danielle, a smile as she says each word. "Whenever I think of Light, I see all the positives but it's kinda hard to see the darkness that could possibly lie within it."

"Huh, that's interesting," said Collector, finding her response to the question interesting and liking her smile whenever talking about light. "Okay, what do you think of Dark?"

"Dark… ooh... um… black, abyss, evil, the devil, nightmares," responded Danielle, pulling her legs close to her with every word. "Everything that is bad out there. But it does make me think, that there may be areas in the dark that are not that bad. I've seen characters in shows that were heavily aligned with being dark only to find out that all they needed was a little push to show them that what they were doing was wrong."

"I never thought of that," said Collector, humming in thought. "About dark that is."

"Were all my answers, okay?" asked Danielle, peeking over her legs.

"Of course, they were," said Collector, staring at Danielle. "When I asked Philip about what he thought of light, it was fine at the beginning then he started getting creepy and I just slipped back into my prison just to get away. Got even worse when dark was mentioned."

"So…" said Danielle, staring at Collector. "Where do you think I should start?"

"I think you'll have an easier time than Philip," said Collector, smiling at Danielle. "I think controlling your magic first is key after feeling your magic. People with vast amount of magic tend to have a hard time keeping it in control and it goes wild."

"Are there control exercises for it?" asked Danielle, staring at Collector.

"Yup. Lord Eriol showed me a good one back way before I was sealed," said Collector, remembering a certain someone back in his realm. "It's like making constructs of strings between your fingers. One is called Cat's Cradle. Though if you mess up, it stings a little."

"I've heard of cat's cradle. It's one of those string figures that people like to play around with," said Danielle, remembering seeing people doing various string figures. "Never done it before but I'm willing to learn it. It always looks so fun."

"Awesome!" said Collector, excited and spreading his arms out in excitement before hugging Danielle.

"I'll do my best to not only play with you but also to learn magic from you. Maybe we can cross the two together and have fun with our magic," said Danielle, hugging Collector.

"Lo prometti?" asked Collector, staring up at Danielle.

"Prometto," said Danielle, touching Collector's forehead with her own. "Stellina."

So, for the remainder of the time while out of body, Danielle kept playing Rhyming Hide and Seek with Collector. Though every once in a while, Danielle would feel a coldness straight from the doors. Like someone was watching them.

"Oh, dear child. What a tangled web you've been ensnared in," said a dark and mysterious voice, watching the two play while chuckling evilly. "I'll make sure to end it. LIGHT!"
