Professor Oak's first letter to the Shrine Guardian

I hope this letter finds you well, miss Melody. Madam? I don't know the correct term of respect.

You may be surprised by my writing to you, but hopefully the rest of the letter will explain. You see, I want to ask for your advice, and in particular your help and the advice of someone you might be in contact with, regarding Ash Ketchum.

We both remember the incident at Shamouti, I'm sure, but Ash has just kept coming up with more surprises. Without going into the details of his whole career to date, I will simply say that the incident at Shamouti was not the last time he has run into Legendary Pokémon – and that he, himself, has now been turned into what may well be a Legendary Pokémon.

Yes, I realize that this may seem unbelievable, but I wish to assure you that the previous paragraph was entirely correct in every particular.

I do not know the extent to which you have the ability to contact the Legendary Pokémon Lugia under normal circumstances, or whether your ritual and the prophecy attached to it has any lore that Ash does not remember or that I did not see, but I enclose photographs of Ash's current form in the hopes that you will be able to provide some illumination.

Please understand that I am not expecting a complete answer. It would give me great delight to discover that you had the solution, both from a scientific perspective and from the point of view of helping Ash understand what has happened to him, but even if you can simply tell me that nothing is available that is, in and of itself, helpful.

Yours,

Professor Oak
