During their fight against Akhlys,something in percy shattered,changing him forever.

He did not stop torturing Akhlys when Annabeth begged him to stop,he was only stopped when Nyx,the premodial goddess of night and the mother of Akhlys arrived!

After that,Annabeth started being afraid of him(although she tried to hide it).

When they get to the Doors of Death,Bob was severely weakened by Tatarus(the primordial),so Percy have to ask of Annabeth to take the titan with her through the doors to the other side.
