A/N: I found my old story randomly looking for something pass time and didn't even recognize it as my own at first. Once I realized it was I instantly wanted to continue it but the second chapter didn't make much sense so I'm going to rewrite it. Hopefully I'll actuallybe able to keep it going this time
Instinct.
That was all I had when I woke up. No memories, no belongings besides the clothes I had on... absolutely nothing besides instinct.
There were flashes of memories, but nothing complete. Nothing that could help me in any way.
"Food this way, I smell him." My eyes widened as the voice reached my ears. I knew exactly who, or rather what it was.
Ever since I had woken up, abandoned in some forest and robbed of my memories, a pack of cyclops had been after me. They were persistent, I'd give them that much, but they lacked the intelligence to even come close to catching me.
Every atom in my body screamed at me to go fight them... to kill them. The urge was almost impossible to resist, and I was close to giving in. The only thing holding me back was the simple fact I had no way of fighting them.
From what I had seen they wielded giant clubs with some odd bronze studs in them, and while clubs generally don't seem like too scary of a weapon; the giants with arms thicker than my body that were using them made it quite intimidating.
But still, some part of me thought I could win. It made me believe I stood a chance. Which all things considered should be impossible.
One teenage boy against at least 4 cyclops with giant clubs... the odds of me winning were slim to none.
So the rational part of my brain pushed past the part of me that screamed for a fight and forced myself to start running. It felt like a blow in the gut to run like a coward, but I figured it was better to be alive with wounded pride than dinner for some monsters.
As I ran, I began to notice something. No longer was it just the smell of the cyclops reaching my nose... but now new scents were flooding my system. More and more piled on top of each other until I had to just force myself to ignore it all.
Still, I knew I was screwed. There seemed to be an army after me. I could hear them chasing me, crashing through branches and trees with nothing to stand in their way.
Suddenly an unknown feeling crept into me. It filled my body with panic and anxiousness... I was afraid. The fear pushed me faster, running well beyond what I thought possible.
Soft dirt sunk beneath my feet with each step. The gentle thudding sound it created my only focus as I tried to calm myself down. From what I could tell the monsters weren't getting any closer, and I even appeared to be losing a few of them, which was good. But there were some who were keeping up with me, and I knew it was only a matter of time until their motivation of food outlasted my motivation of practically nothing.
Just when I was starting to lose hope something ahead of me caught my eye. Towards the top of the hill I was running up were two pillars holding up a sign.
I was too far away to see what it said but the sight brought forth a new burst of energy... a burst of hope. I pushed myself even harder, ran even faster, and saw the structure nearing closer and closer.
50 yards.
25.
10.
It was just steps away when finally the view on the other side of the hill came into my sight, almost causing me to stumble and fall.
Some sort of city laid on the other side. It wasn't anything marvelous and I couldn't make out most of the buildings in it, but that was the last thing I expected to find out in the middle of nowhere.
I slowed to nearly a stop as I came up to the pillars. At that point I could clearly make out the sign and see that it said 'Camp Half-Blood' which meant nothing to me.
Unfortunately I couldn't stop to think about it as I noticed some of the quicker monsters were closing in on me.
I stepped towards the pillars and went to walk between them when an invisible force seemed to hold me back.
Panic began to set in as the monsters neared and I was seemingly trapped against this invisible barrier. I struggled harder and my hands started to slowly go through, followed by my arms.
The hair on the back of my neck stood up and before I could move a muscle I felt teeth sink into my shoulder.
An agonizing scream erupted from my throat as the teeth sunk all the way to the bone. Adrenaline filled my body and an odd feeling began to form around my forearms.
I instinctively tensed the muscles there and felt a pain so horrible it pushed all thought of the monster attached to my shoulder out of my head. There was no doubt in my mind that the scream that came out of me was so loud it woke up someone in the odd city below... if anyone was even there.
The pain subsided just as quickly as it had come, and the sight that greeted me when I glanced down at my hands was the last thing i expected to see.
Sticking out from each knuckle was a gleaming blade about a foot long. Three in each hand, each an odd bronze that was glowing in the night... or maybe my eyes were just playing tricks on me
I was quickly broken out of my stupor when I felt another set of jaws clamp around my leg and bring me down to the ground. The jarring pain brought me back to reality as I allowed instinct to kick in.
Without a thought a thrust a hand over my shoulder. My recently revealed claws slammed through the head of whatever beast was latched onto my arm causing it to explode into a shower of golden dust with nothing more than a whimper.
Quicker than I knew possible I twisted down and repeated the process on the hound attached to my leg.
I stared at the wound with morbid fascination as the holes began to stitch back together. Not quickly enough to be any use in the fight that was approaching but fast enough that I could actually see the skin healing... something that hadn't happened to previous injuries.
I didn't have much time to ponder it, the sound of the quickly approaching monsters snapped me back to reality.
Hopping to my feet I prepared for a fight, but suddenly their footsteps were replaced by their screams of pain. One after another they briefly reached my ears before being silenced by their death.
Instinctively I began scanning the forest and taking in every scent that reached my nose. I focused intently on what I could hear and noticed that behind the screeches of terror now coming from almost every monster there was a different sound.
One of strings snapping, arrows whistling before imbedding themselves deep into their target. I heard a twang much closer than the others and saw a glint of silver from the corner of my eye.
Faster than a thought I swung my arm across my body splintering the arrow and spraying fragments of it all over me. I narrowed my eyes and stared into the forest watching for any movement.
Silver flickered the forest followed by the sound of multiple bows being fired. No amount of instinct or speed could save me from the barrage that followed.
Arrow after arrow pierced me causing pain to flood my body but otherwise not doing an enormous amount of harm. I winced with each arrow until they finally stopped after ten or so.
"Is that al-" pain erupted in my chest and darkness started to fill my vision. I staggered back and looked down to see an arrow sticking out of my heart.
The last thing that came out of my mouth was a gurgly laugh that caused blood to flow out and two simple words.
"Nice shot."
