Chapter 15: Time Heist: New York 2012

***EARLY MORNING - AVENGER'S HQ***

As the first rays of the morning sun painted the sky in hues of pink and gold, a sense of anticipation filled the air at the Avengers Compound. The day of the Time Heist had arrived, and with it came a new date with destiny. The heroes, both old and new, were prepared to embark on a journey that would shape the course of the universe.

In the quiet moments before the rest of the team awakened, Riku stood alone in the courtyard, his eyes fixed on the horizon. The memories of the last 18 months flooded his mind - the devastating loss to Thanos on Titan, the heart-wrenching moment when his friends and comrades dusted away before his eyes, and his own personal quest to find his purpose and identity in a world forever changed.

But amidst the pain and grief, Riku found solace in the friendships he had forged along the way. He thought about Sonic, the blue speedster from Mobius, whose unwavering optimism and determination had inspired them all. He remembered Spyro, the dragon guardian from another world, whose courage and strength had been a source of comfort during their darkest days.

As Sora and Kairi joined Riku in the courtyard, the three Keyblade wielders stood side by side, the weight of their shared memories and the burden of loss heavy on their hearts. They had come a long way from their days on the Destiny Islands, where their biggest concerns were simple adventures and dreams of exploring new worlds. Now, they faced a challenge that transcended anything they could have ever imagined.

With the sun fully risen, its warm light bathed them in its embrace, reminding them of the hope that still lingered even in the darkest of times. As they gazed at the horizon, their thoughts drifted to those they had lost to the blip - friends and mentors who had been pillars of strength in their lives.

Donald and Mickey, the wise and powerful sorcerers, who had guided them through countless adventures and battles. Terra, the noble warrior, Ventus, the kind-hearted boy, and Roxas, the boy who was once part of Sora's heart - their destinies forever intertwined.

Isa and Xion, friends who had been caught in the web of darkness, and Naminé, the girl with the power to manipulate memories. Ansem the Wise, who had sought redemption and atonement for his past mistakes, and Yen Sid, the venerable sorcerer, who had overseen their training and growth.

Their voices filled the air with reminiscence as they shared stories of their lost companions, the laughter, the struggles, and the moments that had shaped them into the people they were today. But as they spoke, their determination burned brighter. This was their moment to make things right, to bring everyone home and restore the bonds that had been torn asunder.

Sora placed a reassuring hand on both Riku and Kairi's shoulders, his eyes filled with unwavering resolve. "We'll find a way," he said with a determined smile. "We'll bring them all back, no matter what it takes."

Kairi nodded, her expression reflecting her own determination. "We've come so far together, and now we have the power to change everything. We won't let this chance slip away."

Riku's gaze was steely as he spoke, his voice tinged with a mix of sorrow and hope. "They're counting on us. We won't let them down. We'll bring our friends home, and we'll face whatever challenges come our way."

As the three friends stood together, the light of the rising sun seemed to infuse them with newfound strength and courage. They were not alone in this fight - they had each other, and they had the support of countless allies from different worlds. The journey ahead would be arduous, but they were prepared to face it head-on.

With hearts united and a shared purpose, they turned their gaze back to the Avengers Compound, where the rest of their team awaited. Today, they would take their first step into the past, to rewrite history and undo the devastation caused by Thanos.

The sun continued to rise, its rays symbolizing the dawn of a new era. The heroes of light were ready to face the challenges, to bring their loved ones back, and to restore balance to the universe. For they knew that as long as they stood together, they had the power to overcome anything. And so, with determination in their hearts, they took their first steps towards a destiny they would shape with their own hands.

***HOUR ZERO: TIME HEIST***

The time had come, a date with destiny awaited the surviving heroes, their last stand against Thanos' actions and to rewrite history. From all the theories, planning, testing and brainstorming - it was do or die time. Everyone traveling across time and space suited up in their sleek and modern time travel suits - ready to write the wrongs of the past.

The team stood in front of the Quantum Time Machines, a mix of determination and apprehension in their eyes. Each of them wore the Quantum Suits, a symbol of their commitment to right the wrongs of the past and bring back their lost loved ones. Steve Rogers led the line, his shield gleaming in the sunlight that streamed into the room.

With a resolute tone, Steve addressed the team, his words carrying the weight of their shared history and the losses they had endured. "Five years ago, we lost. All of us. We lost friends, we lost family, and we lost a part of ourselves. Today, we have a chance to take it all back." His voice was steady, a beacon of hope in the darkness that had befallen them.

"You know your teams, you know your missions," Steve continued. "Get the stones, get them back. One round trip each. No mistakes. No do-overs. Most of us are going somewhere we know. But it doesn't mean we should know what to expect. Be careful. Look out for each other."

As Steve spoke, the team listened intently, their resolve growing stronger with every word. They knew the risks involved, the dangers that lay ahead, but they were prepared to face them together.

"This is the fight of our lives," Steve declared. "And we're gonna win. Whatever it takes." His eyes met Tony's, a silent understanding passing between them. Despite their differences, they both knew what was at stake and what they had to do.

"Good luck," Steve concluded, his voice filled with a mixture of hope and determination. With those words, the team stepped forward, ready to embark on their respective missions. They knew the journey ahead would be fraught with challenges, but they were united in their purpose and in their belief that they could bring back those they had lost.

As the team prepared to depart, Rocket couldn't help but comment on Steve's inspiring speech. "He's pretty good at that," he remarked, a hint of admiration in his voice.

"Right?" Scott said, feeling energized and ready for the mission ahead.

Sora, Kairi, and Riku stood together, their determination unwavering. Sora's words rang with conviction.

"We can do this, guys. We have to fight for our fallen friends and bring them back," he declared, his heart set on the task at hand.

Riku nodded in agreement, his resolve matching Sora's. "Damn right, Sora," he affirmed, standing tall beside his friend.

Tony Stark, the ever-charismatic genius, added his own touch of humor. "All right. You heard the man. Stroke those keys, jolly green," he quipped, giving a playful nod to Bruce to power up the machine..

Bruce Banner, now in control, was ready for action; he powered up the console. "Tractors engaged," he announced, his voice steady and focused.

"Good luck, guys, and bring back our friends," Tails said, wishing them well, knowing that their mission was of the utmost importance.

Sonic, always the fearless and determined hero, echoed Tails' sentiment. "We got this, Tails!" he exclaimed, his confidence contagious.

Aqua, stepped forward, her resolve unwavering. "Whatever it takes," she said, her voice filled with determination.

The team exchanged glances, their unity and determination evident in their eyes. They were ready. Ready to face the challenges ahead, to confront their past, and to fight for the future they believed in.

With hopeful smiles and words of encouragement, Natasha Romanoff, Kairi, and Goofy bid their fellow teammates farewell.

"See you in a minute," Natasha said, her excitement palpable.

Kairi echoed her sentiment. "See you all soon."

Goofy, ever the optimist, chimed in with his classic catchphrase, "Good luck, everyone - let your heart be your guiding key!"

One by one, they entered the Quantum Realm, their Quantum Time Machines shrinking to a size that allowed them to traverse the fabric of time. They split at different intervals, each team heading to a different place, at a different time in history.

In their hearts, they carried the memories of their friends and the hope for a brighter future. As they ventured into the past, they knew that the path ahead would be filled with challenges, but they also knew that they had the strength, courage, and love needed to overcome them.

And so, the heroes of light embarked on their respective missions, determined to make a difference, to right the wrongs, and to bring back the ones they had lost. With the Quantum Realm guiding their journey, they set out to change the course of history and to restore balance to the universe.

Their destinies intertwined, their bonds unbreakable, the heroes of light faced the unknown, knowing that they had each other's backs and that together, they were unstoppable.

As they disappeared into the swirling vortex of time, the sun continued to rise over the Avengers Compound, casting its warm light upon a new day filled with hope, determination, and the belief in a better tomorrow.

For the heroes of light, this was more than just a mission to collect the Infinity Stones; it was a mission to bring back what was lost, to heal the wounds of the past, and to build a future where hope, love, and unity reigned supreme.

***NEW YORK - 2012 - BATTLE OF NEW YORK***

As Sora, Tony, Scott, and Steve arrived in New York City in the year 2012, they were immediately struck by the devastating scene that unfolded before them. The once vibrant and bustling city now lay in ruins, with smoke-filled skies and a constant chorus of sirens wailing in the distance. The air was thick with panic and fear, and the scent of destruction hung heavily in the atmosphere.

The streets were littered with debris from the Chitauri's relentless assault. Cars were overturned and engulfed in flames, and buildings stood in various states of destruction, some reduced to mere shells of their former selves. The ground was cracked and scorched from the devastating energy blasts that had rained down upon the city.

Sora and Scott, who had never witnessed this battle first hand, were in awe and disbelief at the level of devastation they were witnessing. The reality of the situation weighed heavily on them, knowing that countless lives were being affected by the chaos unfolding around them.

For Tony and Steve, the scene was all too familiar, as they had lived through this battle before. They felt a sense of déjà vu, remembering the desperation and determination that had fueled them during that time. The memories of the sacrifices made by their fellow Avengers flooded their minds, as they were once again confronted with the enormity of the task ahead.

The sounds of explosions, gunfire, and the cries of civilians filled the air, creating a cacophony of chaos. The city was a battleground, and the heroes could feel the intensity of the battle coursing through the very ground beneath their feet.

Despite the devastation, the people of New York displayed remarkable resilience, with some seeking shelter and others banding together to help those in need. The heroes could see glimpses of hope amidst the destruction, as ordinary citizens displayed extraordinary acts of bravery and compassion.

As they took in the sight and sounds of the battle, the gravity of their mission weighed heavily on their hearts. The fate of the universe rested on their shoulders, and they knew that every decision they made would have far-reaching consequences.

In the distance, they could see the original six Avengers, huddled together and ready to face the incoming Chitauri forces. Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye stood side by side, preparing for the battle that would determine the fate of the world.

The skies were filled with Chitauri ships, firing energy blasts and wreaking havoc upon the city. The ground trembled beneath their feet as explosions echoed through the streets. Sora and Scott were in awe at the scale of the battle unfolding before them. It was a sight to behold, but it was also a stark reminder of the immense danger they were about to face.

The Avengers fought with all their might, each showcasing their unique abilities and strengths. Iron Man soared through the skies, firing repulsor blasts at the enemy, while Thor wielded Mjolnir with thunderous power, striking down wave after wave of Chitauri soldiers. The Hulk's roars reverberated through the battlefield as he smashed through the enemy lines, and Black Widow and Hawkeye fought with skill and precision, taking down any Chitauri that dared to come near them.

As the battle raged on, the destruction continued to spread, engulfing the city in chaos. The heroes fought not just for their own survival but for the safety of the people they swore to protect. The streets were littered with debris and abandoned vehicles, and the once-iconic landmarks of New York City were reduced to mere remnants of their former glory.

Amidst the destruction, Sora and his companions felt the weight of their mission more than ever. They knew that the fate of the universe depended on their success in collecting the Infinity Stones. The battles they were about to face would be perilous, but they were ready to do whatever it takes to bring back their lost friends and save the world from the impending darkness.

As they prepared to split up and tackle their respective missions, Steve, Tony, Scott, and Sora shared a moment of camaraderie amidst the chaos of the battle. Steve, ever the leader, looked at his team with determination in his eyes.

"Alright, we all have our assignments. Two Stones uptown, one Stone, down. Stay low. Keep an eye on the clock," he instructed, knowing that their success depended on precision and coordination.

Sora nodded confidently, eager to find Doctor Strange and collect the Time Stone. "I'll head to find Doctor Strange, but what's the address again?" he asked.

"How could you forget? I told you, 5 minutes ago," Tony said, referring to his earlier explanation to Sora.

Sora, always quick with a retort, leaned back and playfully countered, "Technically, that was over 7 years ago if you think about it."

Scott chuckled, acknowledging the cleverness of Sora's response. "He got you there, Stark," he teased, and even Steve couldn't help but give Tony a small look, amused by the fact that Sora had outplayed the genius with a witty quip.

Tony smiled and sighed good-naturedly, "Good one kid. It's 177a Bleecker Street. Not far from here."

With the address in mind, Sora readied himself to venture into the unknown streets of New York City. He knew that finding Doctor Strange and the Time Stone was crucial to their mission, and he was determined to do whatever it takes to succeed.

As they each headed off on their respective missions, the heroes knew that the fate of the universe rested in their hands. They were prepared to face whatever challenges lay ahead, knowing that their success hinged on their unity and determination.

As Sora set out on his own, he felt a mix of excitement and trepidation. The weight of their mission pressed upon him, but he drew strength from the knowledge that he was not alone in this fight. The bond he shared with his fellow heroes fueled his determination, and he knew that together, they could accomplish the impossible.

With a deep breath and a final glance back at his team, Sora stepped into the chaos of battle and headed towards 177a Bleecker Street, ready to face whatever challenges awaited him in the pursuit of the Time Stone.

As Sora made his way through the chaotic streets of New York City, he couldn't help but notice the changes that the Time Travel capabilities had brought upon him. He felt a strange sensation, feeling a rusk of youthful energy flow through him, and when he caught a glimpse of his reflection in a window, he was taken aback. He looked different—almost younger—resembling his appearance from when he completed his Mark of Mastery exam. It seemed the Time Travel had not only transported him through space but also through time, temporarily reverting him to a younger version of himself.

As Sora gazed at his reflection, he couldn't help but be taken aback by the sight before him. He looked like the younger version of himself, wearing the iconic outfit from his adventures in Dream Drop Distance. His attire was a perfect blend of nostalgia and style, a testament to the many challenges he had faced and the battles he had won.

His hoodie featured a vibrant red palette mixed with a sleek black, giving him a cool and youthful appearance. The bold red color represented his fiery determination, while the black symbolized the darkness he had conquered and learned to harness. It was a reflection of the balance he had achieved between light and dark—a true Keyblade Master.

His red and black shorts were practical and comfortable, allowing him to move freely during his battles. Paired with his signature black gloves, Sora was always ready for action, his hands firmly grasping the hilt of his Keyblade.

And, of course, he couldn't forget his big, yellow shoes, which were not only a distinctive part of his outfit but also a symbol of the adventurous spirit that defined him. With every step, he was reminded of the vast worlds he had explored and the friends he had made along the way.

As Sora continued to take in his appearance, he felt a surge of determination and confidence welling up within him. He may have looked younger, but he knew that he carried the wisdom and strength of all his past experiences. He was ready to face whatever challenges awaited him, armed with the power of friendship and the unwavering belief in the light that guided him.

With a small smile, Sora nodded to his reflection, as if to say, "Let's do this!" Embracing his past self, he set forth on his mission to collect the Time Stone, knowing that the fate of the universe depended on his actions. With every step, he exuded a sense of hope and optimism that could light up even the darkest corners of the cosmos. Sora was not just a hero; he was a beacon of light, shining brightly in the face of darkness.

With renewed confidence, Sora continued on his mission, using his flow motion and wall-running abilities to navigate through the battle-ravaged streets. Suddenly, this caught the attention of the Chitauri invaders. They swarmed around him, with Sora summoning his All For One Keyblade, ready to face them head-on.

***SORA v CHITAURI***

As the Chitauri swarmed around him, Sora tapped into his Balloonga ability, unleashing a torrent of colorful balloons that burst forth in every direction. The balloons exploded on impact, creating bursts of light and disorienting the enemy soldiers. The chaotic scene became a whirlwind of colors and confusion as the Chitauri struggled to regain their footing.

"Take That!" Sora shouted, summoning the ballon magic, an ability he learnt in the slumbering worlds during his Mark of Mastery exam.

With the Chitauri momentarily distracted, Sora took advantage of the opening and swiftly moved through the battlefield. His Keyblade, the All for One, gleamed with a brilliant light as he swung it with practiced precision. Each strike was imbued with the memories of his past adventures—the friendships he had formed, the worlds he had saved, and the battles he had won.

As he fought, he felt the familiar weight of the Keyblade in his hand, a comforting reminder of the bond he shared with his companions. With each swing, he channeled the strength and support of his friends, their presence felt even in this distant time and place. Their unwavering belief in him fueled his resolve, and he fought with all his might.

The Balloonga ability continued to aid him in the battle, causing bursts of light and magic that disoriented the Chitauri and created openings for him to strike. The colorful balloons danced around him, carrying the essence of joy and hope that Sora brought wherever he went.

With a deft twist of his wrist, Sora sent another wave of balloons cascading toward a group of Chitauri, enveloping them in a vibrant display of light. The enemies stumbled, temporarily blinded by the brilliance of the balloons. Sora seized the opportunity and launched into a dazzling combo, his Keyblade cutting through the darkness with a trail of light.

With each defeated Chitauri, Sora's determination grew. He knew that collecting the Time Stone was crucial to their mission, and he would not let anything stand in their way. Drawing upon the strength of his heart, he fought with the courage of a true hero, weaving through the chaos and striking down his foes.

As the battle raged on, Sora's heart was filled with the memories of his past adventures—the laughter, the tears, the triumphs, and the sacrifices. They fueled his spirit, reminding him that he was not alone in this fight. With his friends by his side, he could overcome any challenge, no matter how daunting.

And so, surrounded by a whirlwind of balloons and magic, Sora pressed on, fighting for the future, for his friends, and for the light. The fate of the universe hung in the balance, and he would give everything he had to set things right and bring back those they had lost. The hero of the Keyblade knew that no matter how tough the battle, as long as he held onto the light within, he could face any darkness and emerge victorious.

***END OF BATTLE***

As Sora ran towards the New York Sanctum, he couldn't help but think about the young woman he had locked eyes with. Her expression had been a mix of fear and awe as she witnessed him effortlessly dispatching the Chitauri. It was a powerful reminder of the responsibility he carried as a hero, not just to save the universe but to protect the innocent lives caught in the crossfire.

The city streets were in chaos, and the police were doing their best to evacuate civilians to safety. Sora's heart went out to all those affected by the battle, and he felt a renewed determination to stop the Chitauri and collect the Time Stone as quickly as possible.

Using his wall running abilities, Sora swiftly moved through the city, navigating the debris and destruction left in the wake of the Chitauri invasion. The New York Sanctum loomed ahead, a beacon of hope in the midst of the chaos. As he approached the ancient building, he noticed its mystical defenses flickering with energy, protecting it from the invading forces.

Sora took a moment to catch his breath, his eyes scanning the area for any sign of Doctor Strange. He knew that finding the Sorcerer Supreme was crucial to their mission. The Time Stone was in his possession, and they needed to secure it to complete the time heist.

With a deep breath, Sora steeled himself for what lay ahead. He knew that entering the Sanctum would not be an easy task. Doctor Strange was a formidable sorcerer, and the Sanctum's defenses were designed to keep intruders out. But Sora had faced many challenges throughout his journey, and he was prepared to face whatever obstacles came his way.

With the Time Stone as his target, Sora pressed on, a beacon of light amidst the darkness of battle. The city may have been in ruins, but Sora knew that as long as they fought together, hope would prevail. With the power of friendship and his unwavering resolve, he was ready to face whatever challenges came his way. For Sora, this was not just a mission—it was a journey to bring back the light and restore the balance of the universe.

***177a BLEECKER STREET - NEW YORK SANCTUM***

After running up the walls to seek a low profile from further alien invaders, Sora managed to reach his destination. As he landed on the rooftop of 177a Bleecker Street, he was met with a scene of intense magical combat. The Sanctum stood tall and majestic, its ancient energies humming in the air, but his attention was drawn to the figure in the yellow hooded attire before him. The mysterious being moved with grace and precision, wielding magic that effortlessly dispatched the Chitauri soldiers on their transportation devices.

Sora's heart pounded in his chest as he tried to make sense of the situation. He had expected to find Doctor Strange battling the Chitauri, but this was someone else entirely. The yellow-hooded figure seemed to be fighting with a purpose, protecting the Sanctum and its surroundings from the invaders.

The sounds of magic crackled in the air, and Sora could see bolts of energy shooting forth from the figure's outstretched hand, taking down Chitauri ships with ease. The yellow hood obscured the being's face, adding an air of mystery to their identity. Sora's instincts told him that this person was not an enemy, but an ally, fighting to defend the sanctity of the Sanctum and its precious artifacts.

As the battle raged on, the yellow-hooded figure noticed Sora's arrival on the rooftop. Their head turned slightly in his direction, as if acknowledging his presence. Sora couldn't see their face, but he felt a sense of power, knowledge and warmth emanating from them.

The figure continued to fight with incredible skill and power, and Sora couldn't help but be in awe of their abilities. He had seen many skilled sorcerers and warriors in his adventures, but this person was on a whole new level.

As the last of the Chitauri ships were taken down, the yellow-hooded figure turned to face Sora fully. Though their face was still obscured, Sora could sense a friendly aura around them.

"Who are you?" Sora asked, curiosity tinged with respect in his voice.

As the figure's hood fell back, Sora's eyes widened in surprise to see a bald-headed woman standing before him. The golden light emanating from her attire and the power of her aura gave Sora an immediate sense of reassurance that she was an ally of good, not evil.

"I am the Ancient One, Sorcerer Supreme of this time," the woman introduced herself with a gentle smile. "And you must be the time-traveler I sensed arriving in our midst."

Sora nodded, still processing the encounter with the Sorcerer Supreme. "Yeah, I'm Sora. It's nice to meet you."

"The pleasure is mine, Sora," the Ancient One replied warmly. "I have been keeping watch over the events of this battle, and it seems you have come here with a purpose. What brings you to New York in 2012?"

"We're on a mission to collect the Infinity Stones from the past and save our friends," Sora explained. "We need the Time Stone, and I thought I'd find Doctor Strange here to help us."

The Ancient One's smile widened. "Ah, Stephen Strange. He will indeed become a formidable sorcerer and play a crucial role in five years time. However, at this moment, he is performing life-saving surgery twenty blocks that way," she said, pointing in the direction over the rooftop.

Sora's eyes widened in surprise. "Really? But... if he's there, then who's protecting the Sanctum?"

"I am," the Ancient One replied, her gaze steady and full of determination. "As the Sorcerer Supreme, it is my duty to defend this realm and its precious artifacts. But fear not, for I am more than capable of handling any threats that may come our way."

Sora felt a sense of respect and awe for the Ancient One. Her calm and composed demeanor, coupled with the immense power he could sense within her, made him feel assured that they were in capable hands.

Taking a deep breath, Sora steeled himself for the request he was about to make.

"Um, Ancient One, could I... have the Time Stone, please?" he asked, trying to sound as polite and composed as possible.

The Ancient One chuckled softly at Sora's eagerness. "Ah, you are direct, I see," she replied, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "But the Time Stone is a powerful artifact that must be wielded with great care. I cannot simply hand it over without knowing your intentions."

Sora nodded understandingly. "I promise, we're here to use it for good. We need the stones to save our friends and bring back those who were lost. We won't use them for anything else, I swear."

"I can't take a promise as a guarantee, young Keyblade warrior." "Giving you the stone from my time will doom us all".

Sora sighs and looks down slightly, but then he prepares himself. He summons his Keyblade and is ready to fight the Ancient One, if needs be.

"I don't want to do this, but if it means me battling you for the time stone I will".

The Ancient One smiled and shook her head. "Afraid not".

"Listen, I need that stone, and I don't have time to —"

Before Sora could finish, his eyes widened in surprise as the Ancient One moved with incredible speed, blocking his path and separating his astral form from his physical body once again. He found himself floating above the scene, watching as the Ancient One regarded him with a mix of concern and sternness.

As Sora's astral form hovered above his physical body lying on the rooftop, he stared at his transparent hands in shock. Panic surged through him as he thought he had somehow died.

"Wait, am I a ghost? Is this... is this the afterlife, am I going to The Final World?" he stammered, his mind racing.

The Ancient One couldn't help but chuckle at Sora's reaction. "Oh, you're not dead, my young friend," she said, trying to stifle her laughter. "I simply separated your astral form from your physical form. You are perfectly safe."

Sora blinked in confusion. "Separated? What does that mean?"

"It means your spirit is temporarily out of your body," the Ancient One explained. "Your physical form is still down there," she gestured to his body on the ground, "while your consciousness is up here, talking with me back in the physical realm."

Sora's eyes widened as he looked back at his body. "Whoa, that's... weird," he said, still trying to wrap his head around the situation.

The Ancient One smiled. "Indeed, it can be quite a unique experience for those who have not encountered astral projection before."

Once he realized he was not actually dead, Sora's panic subsided, but he still had a mission to accomplish. He gazed earnestly at the Ancient One and asked, "So, how can I persuade you to give me the Time Stone? We really need it to save our friends."

The Ancient One's smile softened, and she regarded Sora with a mix of compassion and amusement. "You are quite persistent, I'll give you that," she said. "But as I've already explained, the Time Stone is a powerful artifact, and I cannot simply hand it over without careful consideration."

Sora nodded, understanding that the Ancient One had her reasons for caution. "I get it," he replied. "But is there anything I can do to prove that we're worthy of having the stone? We promise to use it responsibly and only for good."

The Ancient One regarded Sora with a mixture of concern and understanding. "The Infinity Stones are not just ordinary artifacts," she began, her voice grave and filled with wisdom. "They are the very essence of reality itself, the fabric that weaves time together. Each stone has a specific purpose, and together, they maintain the flow of time as you know it."

As she spoke, she conjured a projection of the Time Stone in her hand, and Sora watched in awe as it glowed with otherworldly energy.

"When you remove one of these stones from its rightful place in time, it creates a branch in the flow of time," the Ancient One continued, flicking away the Time Stone projection and causing a black stream to appear, indicating a point of divergence. "This new branch creates an alternate reality, a separate timeline that deviates from the original path."

Sora furrowed his brow in confusion, still trying to grasp the concept. "So, you're saying that if you give us the Time Stone, it will create a new reality where your world is in danger?"

The Ancient One nodded somberly. "Yes. In this new branched reality, my world will lose the protection of the Time Stone, our chief weapon against the forces of darkness. Without it, our reality will be left vulnerable, and our world will be overrun by dark forces. Countless lives will be at risk, and millions will suffer."

Sora's heart sank as he realized the implications of their mission. He knew that they couldn't jeopardize the safety of another world for their own gain. "I understand," he said solemnly. "We can't let that happen. We need to find another way to save our friends without causing harm to your world."

The Ancient One nodded, appreciating Sora's empathy and sense of responsibility. "I'm glad you see the gravity of the situation," she said. "The choices we make, the actions we take, they have consequences beyond what we can imagine. It's not an easy burden to bear, but it's a burden we must carry if we wish to protect the balance of the universe." "It's the duty of the Sorcerer Supreme, to protect the stone at all costs".

"Protect?" Sora asked, with confusion surrounding his astral form. "How is Strange handing over the Stone to Thanos, protecting it?"

The Ancient One's expression shifted, and she seemed to be deep in thought. "Strange handed over the Time Stone willingly?" she questioned, seemingly puzzled by this revelation. "That doesn't make sense. Stephen Strange was meant to protect the stone at all costs."

Sora, still in his astral form, nodded. "That's what I heard," he replied. "I was told it was the only way to save Tony and bring them to the "Endgame", whatever that means. Strange must have seen something that made him believe it was the right choice.``

The Ancient One mulled over this information for a moment, her eyes narrowing in contemplation. "If he saw a future where handing over the stone was necessary for the greater good, then we must trust his judgment."

Sora looked unsure, still grappling with the idea that Strange had willingly given up the Time Stone, one of the most powerful artifacts in existence. "But doesn't that go against what you said earlier?" he asked. "About protecting the stone at all costs?"

The Ancient One sighed softly, her gaze distant as she spoke. "As the Sorcerer Supreme, my duty is indeed to protect the stone and the balance of time," she explained. "But sometimes, the greater good requires sacrifice. The choices we make are not always easy, and they may contradict our initial beliefs."

She paused for a moment, her eyes meeting Sora's with a sense of understanding. "Strange must have seen a future where not handing over the stone would have resulted in even greater devastation," she continued. "Perhaps it was the only way to ensure that the universe had a chance of being saved."

Sora nodded slowly, beginning to grasp the weight of the decisions that Strange and the other heroes had made. "So, sometimes, protecting the stone means knowing when to let it go?" he asked.

The Ancient One smiled gently, recognizing the wisdom in Sora's words. "Exactly," she said. "The path of a hero is filled with difficult choices, and sometimes, we must trust in the goodness of others and the hope that they bring to the world."

With that, she extended her hand towards Sora, and his astral form returned to his physical body once more. Sora felt a newfound sense of clarity and determination as he stood up, ready to continue his mission. With Sora now standing, The Ancient One took the Eye of Agamotto necklace off her neck and placed it into Sora's hands, closing his hands to protect it.

"Stephen was supposed to be the best of us. So, he must have done this for a reason. To save the universe". Said the Ancient One, looking into the blue eyes of Sora.

Sora nodded in agreement, knowing that Strange must have a plan to reach this "Endgame" he spoke of on Titan.

The Ancient One's expression softened as she handed over the Eye of Agamotto to Sora. The Eye's green glow reflected in her eyes, a mix of trust and uncertainty. "I have faith in you, Sora," she said. "I can sense a great power within you, one that has been tempered by the trials you've faced. Use the Time Stone wisely and remember the responsibility that comes with it."

Sora held the Eye of Agamotto carefully in his hands, feeling the immense power it contained. "Don't worry, Ancient One," he replied with determination. "I promise to use it only for good, to bring back our friends and save the universe."

The Ancient One nodded, a small smile gracing her lips. "I believe you will," she said. "Now, remember, once your adventure is over, you must return the stone to this exact moment. It is crucial to prevent branching timelines."

Sora chuckled lightly and shrugged, a playful glint in his eyes. "Sure thing, I'll be back before you know it," he said. "But, uh, I have to admit, I haven't seen Mobius or met any TVA agents yet, so I must be doing something right."

The Ancient One raised an eyebrow, surprised by Sora's mention of the TVA. "The TVA?" she asked, clearly intrigued. "How do you know about them?"

Sora leaned back with a grin, realizing he may have said too much. "Oh, it's a long story," he replied. "Let's just say I've been through some pretty wild adventures, and I've met some interesting folks along the way."

The Ancient One chuckled softly. "I look forward to hearing that story when you return to return the stone," she said, a hint of amusement in her tone. "For now, go forth, Sora, and may your heart be your guiding key."

With a final nod, with the Eye of Agamotto in hand, Sora felt its power coursing through him. He bid farewell to the Ancient One and leaped off the rooftop, ready to meet up with Tony, Steve and Scott at the rendezvous point, outside Avengers Tower.

***STREETS OF NEW YORK 2012***

As Sora ran through the ravaged streets of New York, the aftermath of the Chitauri invasion surrounded him. The once bustling city was now eerily quiet, save for the distant sounds of sirens and the occasional rumble of crumbling buildings. The acrid smell of smoke hung heavy in the air, a stark reminder of the battle that had raged through the city.

The streets were littered with debris, broken glass, and abandoned vehicles, evidence of the chaos that had unfolded just moments ago. Sora leaped over fallen lampposts and dodged piles of rubble as he made his way towards the meeting point where he was supposed to rendezvous with Tony, Steve, and Scott.

His heart pounded in his chest, the weight of the Time Stone hanging heavily around his neck. He knew that every second counted, and he couldn't afford to waste any time. The memory of the Ancient One's warning echoed in his mind, reminding him of the importance of returning the stone to its rightful place in the timeline.

As he ran, he could still feel the remnants of the Time Stone's power coursing through him. It was a strange sensation, one that made him feel both powerful and vulnerable at the same time. But he knew he had to stay focused and keep moving forward.

Sora was getting closer and closer to Avenger's Tower, or Stark Tower at this point in time. He could see the large building, with only the letter A remaining on top. He was only a few blocks away and knew one of the three stones was secured. However, something stopped Sora in his tracks, he could sense a familiar lingering darkness closing in.

"Well, well. If it isn't Sora?" Said the familiar voice, toned with coldness and venom as it echoed around Sora.

Sora's eyes widened and he recognised the voice. The voice belonged to a being he believed was wiped out of existence, when they battled Xehanort and his Thirteen. Sora's mind raced, thinking it was impossible, but how is he still alive? So much suffering to his close friends and yet his voice boomed around him.

"Vanitas?" Sora shouted, looking around the destroyed and damaged streets of 2012 New York. The thick smoke and dust made his visibility difficult to navigate.

It was true, it was the menacing foe of Sora's past. Vanitas emerged from the shadows, his form shrouded in darkness. He was a formidable figure, tall and muscular, with a sleek black helmet concealing his face. His attire exuded an air of malevolence, black from head to toe, save for a few silver accents that glinted ominously in the dim light. The aura of darkness that surrounded him seemed to ripple through the air, sending a chill down Sora's spine.

His eyes gleamed with a wicked intensity from within the dark confines of his helmet, and a sinister smirk danced across his lips. Vanitas's very presence seemed to suck the light out of the surroundings, leaving only an eerie shadow in his wake.

He wielded his own Keyblade, Void Gear, a twisted and corrupted counterpart to Sora's bright and hopeful Kingdom Key. The blade oozed with darkness, reflecting the malevolence that resided within Vanitas's heart.

As he stepped closer to Sora, the air around them seemed to grow heavy with the weight of their history—a history filled with clashes and battles for the fate of the worlds. Vanitas's mere presence was a reminder of the darkness that lurked in every heart, the darkness that Sora and his friends had fought to overcome time and time again.

"Surprised to see me, Sora?" he taunted, his eyes gleaming with malevolence. "I must admit, I've missed our little sparring sessions."

Sora tightened his grip on the Time Stone, his resolve unwavering despite the unease that surged within him. "What do you want, Vanitas?" he asked, his voice steady.

Vanitas chuckled darkly. "Isn't it obvious, idiot? I want the Time Stone," he said, taking a step closer to Sora. "With that kind of power, I could bring darkness to every corner of this universe. No more silly heroes standing in my way."

Sora's heart pounded in his chest as he assessed the situation. He couldn't let Vanitas get his hands on the Time Stone. The fate of their entire mission depended on it.

"You're not getting this stone," Sora declared, holding the Time Stone aloft. "It's not for you to wield."

Vanitas tilted his head, his eerie smile never fading. "Oh, but Sora, you don't really think you can stop me, do you?" he said, a hint of amusement in his voice.

Sora's grip on the Time Stone tightened even more. He knew that facing Vanitas would be dangerous, but he couldn't back down. He had come too far, and too much was at stake.

As Vanitas raised his Void Gear Keyblade to the sky, an ominous aura of darkness enveloped the area. The very air seemed to tremble with malevolence as the Keyblade's power surged. With a sinister grin, Vanitas channeled his dark magic, and a swirling vortex of inky blackness materialized beneath Sora's feet.

The portal, a gateway to an unknown destination, emitted an eerie, haunting glow that pulsed with raw darkness. It oozed like thick black smoke, reaching out hungrily to ensnare its target. Sora's grip on the Time Stone tightened even more as he felt himself being pulled towards the vortex.

The power of the portal was overwhelming, threatening to drag Sora into a realm of shadows and despair. But he wouldn't yield to the darkness. With determination blazing in his eyes, Sora fought against the force that sought to swallow him whole.

However, Vanitas's power was formidable, and he relished in the struggle of his adversary. His laughter, dark and menacing, filled the air as he leaped into the portal after Sora. Like a sinister shadow, he disappeared into the abyss, leaving behind the chaos and devastation of 2012 New York.

The portal closed behind them, leaving the city eerily quiet once more. The only traces of their encounter were the remnants of darkness that seemed to linger in the air. Sora and Vanitas vanished to parts unknown, a thrilling and dramatic showdown between light and darkness would take place in another point in time and space.
