"Hey Astrid," Hiccup called, landing outside of Astrid's hut.
"Are we going to see some of the traps in action?" Mina said, an evil smile spreading across her face.
"I wouldn't want anyone getting hurt," Tysu said.
"It would be cool to see the traps in action," Momo said.
"Relax, it's Hiccup. He knows how to avoid them," Astids said, opening the door.
"Come on," Mina drawled, "We deserve some action."
"You'll get the action when I start training you," Astrid said as she let Hiccup into her hut.
"Wait, you offered to train them?" Hiccup said, coming into the hut.
"Yeah, she's gonna teach us how to be badasses!" Mina said, punching the air.
"Your form is a bit off," Astrid said.
"But training hasn't even started yet," She whined
"Astrid is a strict teacher," Hiccup said, "Anyways we're all gathering at the clubhouse in five minutes."
"We'll be right there."
Hiccup and Astrid stared at each other for a moment and smiled. Then Hiccup took his leave.
"Well someone is in love," Mina said.
"Do you want me to go extra hard on you during training tomorrow?"
Hiccup flew up to the clubhouse and dismounted Toothless; "You're gonna have to stay out here bud, the clubhouse is going to be packed tonight."
Toothless looked at him with pouting eyes.
"I mean it."
Toothless turned away and curled up by the door.
"Thanks bud," Hiccup said. At least Toothless wasn't going to give him a headache.
Hiccup walked into the clubhouse; "Everyones on their way."
"Good," Aizawa said, then he glanced at Bakugo, Kirishima, and Kaminari, "As you can tell I've got an excitable bunch. They're hard to keep track of."
"You do a commendable job, Eraserhead," Endeavour said. He was doing his best to hide how angry he was at being stuck in a Viking world. At least his natural demeanor meant no one would question his mood.
Aizawa nodded in response.
"Wait, you guys built this?" Midoryia said, walking into the clubhouse.
"Yup, from the ground up!" Fishlegs said. He was just as happy when he was trying out a new trick with dragons, it wasn't often that Fishlegs could be in his happy Fishlegs state all day.
"It's really impressive," Todoroki said.
"I could do better half-n-half," Bakugo said.
"Really?" Fishlegs said, "I'd like to see what new innovations all of you could bring!" He had the biggest smile on his face.
"Not another damn nerd," Bakugo muttered under his breath.
Fishlegs eyes lost a bit of sparkle, but not much. He just pretended that Bakugo was Snotlout.
"I-I can show you some things from our time i-if you like," Koda said.
Aizawa was stunned, he had never heard Koda say much, let alone in front of complete strangers.
"I'd love that, Koda! In return I can teach you about the dragons!"
Koda nodded excitedly.
"Mr. Aizawa! Mr. Aizawa!" Mina shouted, bursting into the clubhouse, " Astrid has agreed to train us tomorrow!"
"Has she now?" He deadpanned.
"Yes," Momo said, "She is very skilled in hand to hand combat and skilled with various weapons."
Before Aizawa could respond the twins came in.
"Are you guys not weirded out by my arms?" Shoji said he couldn't keep the thought in any longer.
"Nah, there's weirder," Tuffnut said.
"I mean our dragon does have two heads," Ruffnut said.
The anxiety that Shoji was holding in left him; these Vikings didn't care about his arms. They probably wouldn't care about his scars.
"That reminds me of uncle Erikburg. As kids we used to-"
"Not now, Tuffnut," Hiccup said, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"No, it's a good story!"
"I would rather scout the island five more times than listen to another story about one of your made up uncles," Snotlout said, dismounting Hookfang.
"I'll have you know that uncle Erikburg is a real living person, thank you very much," Ruffnut said.
"Anyway, now that everyone is here," Hiccup said, "There are a few things we need to go over."
Hiccup turned towards Aizawa and let him have the floor; "As you know a villain attack brought us here, I have no idea how his quirk worked or how we will be getting back. Let me worry about that, there are many possibilities for what that quirk could have been and I will work through scenarios to get us home. I can guarantee that principal Nedzu is working on this as well," Aizawa took a moment to breathe, the hardest part was over, "We have to assume that we will be staying here for the foreseeable future."
Aizawa gauged the reactions of his students, some were in shock but most were staying calm and collected. This class had been through a lot.
"So we're just supposed to sit around here until something happens?" Kaminari said.
"You won't be sitting around, you will be training. There are things all of you are working on, this is no time to stop."
He saw the nods of a few of his students, at least some of this was getting through. He continued; "By staying here you must follow the rules of the dragon riders and you are not to cause problems. Understood?"
"Yes, Mr. Aizawa," They chorused.
"Now, for sleeping arrangements; Astrid, are you okay if the girls sleep with you?"
"Yeah, not a problem."
"Great," Aizawa was happy that he discussed this all with Hiccup before hand, he's too tired to put up with teenage drama, "Kaminari, Kirishima, and Mineta, you three are with Snotlout."
The three nodded. Mineta was disappointed that he didn't end up with the twins, but he was too tired to argue.
"Todoroki, Koda, and Tokoyami, you three are with Fishlegs."
Tokoyami thanked whatever gods were listening, the twins were curious but there was only so much denying Norse ancestry he could handle.
"Shoji, Iida, and Bakugo, you three are with the twins."
Bakugo rolled his eyes while the other two nodded.
"Midoriya, you are with me and Endeavour in Hiccup's hut."
There are many reasons Aizawa wanted Midoryia close, he was very good at analysing quirks, he could lighten the mood of any room (which he silently appreciated), but he was a problem child and wanted to keep an eye on him.
"Professor, allow me to stay with you as well," Iida said, "It would be awkward for a student to be alone with his teachers."
"Iida it's okay, I don't mind-" Midoryia started.
"No, as class president it will make sure no one is left out!"
"Alright," Aizawa said. He was too tired to argue, and Iida was right.
"Before you go to sleep there are a few rules that need to be set. Hiccup will elaborate."
"Yes, the big rule to note is don't destroy anything in the village. You can use your quirks all you want but try not to break anything. If you need to destroy something there's an entire forest on this island."
Hiccup said the last sentence more to the twins than anyone else.
"Also, there are a lot more of you than our outpost is meant for. We are pretty easy going but not when it comes to doing chores, We will need all of you to pitch in and help with daily tasks and chores."
"We are capable of doing so!" Iida shouted, "It is the least we can do for your hospitality." The rest of the class nodded in understanding.
"Happy to see your enthusiasm, Iida." Hiccup said, "We can go over any questions in the morning, we all need our rest. Astrid, are you still okay with morning patrol?"
"Always am."
"Great. Snotlout, you and I are in charge of breakfast. Anyone else who wants to help is welcome."
Hiccup looked around at the newcomers in front of him, all still watching attentively, "Uh, you can go now."
The class started talking amongst each other and Hiccup breathed a sigh of relief.
"There's a lot of them," Astrid said, putting a hand on Hiccup's shoulder.
"You got that right. I don't know if I can keep up with everything."
"You're doing a good job, Hiccup. Believe in yourself," She said with a reassuring smile.
"Thanks, Astrid," Hiccup wanted to kiss her right there and then, but not in front of so many people. They stared into each other's eyes for too long to be normal. The pair went mostly unnoticed as the rest of the group had begun to clear out for the night.
"See you tomorrow," Astrid said before tearing her gaze away from Hiccup and continuing out of the clubhouse.
Hiccup made his way outside where he found Aizawa, Endeavour, Iida, and Midoryia waiting for him. The moon was out now, and the four were looking at the stars.
"I've never seen this many stars before," Midoryia muttered, craning his neck towards the sky.
"Me neither," Iida said in a soft tone, "They're wonderful."
Hiccup took a moment to look up, and the stars were beautiful, the same as always. Looking at the sky reminded him of the ways of navigation that were taught to him at a young age, it was one of the lessons he actually enjoyed.
Hiccup didn't want to break the four from a moment of peace, however he was getting tired and he was certain they were too, "I can take you guys to my hut."
The four nodded and followed Hiccup in silence to his hut, all four sneaking more glances at the night sky.
Astrid was digging through a box in her hut trying to find more blankets. She had a few extra from when Heather lived with her but she couldn't remember where she put them.
"Found them!" Uraraka said, holding up some blankets from a different crate.
"Thank goodness," Tsuyu said, "I was starting to get pretty cold, ribbit."
"It gets pretty cold during the night no matter what season it is," Astrid said, closing up the box she was looking in.
"I can imagine," Momo said, "We're pretty far north."
"Did you need help on patrol tomorrow?" Uraraka said.
"No, I'll be fine. None of you have dragons anyway."
Uraraka looked a bit sad, there was a lot she could learn from Astrid and she didn't want to waste a moment.
"So what kind of training will we be doing?" Mina said, doing her best not to bounce off the walls in excitement.
"Well, what do you want to learn?"
"I want to learn how to beat up the bad guys!" Mina shouted
"I want to focus on more aspects of hand to hand combat," Uraraka said, a determined look spreading across her face, "I've learned some moves at my work study and they've already helped me a lot so I want to learn more."
"I want to learn more about close range combat with the weapons I can produce," Momo said, producing a short baton.
"I'm more of a rescue hero, ribbit. But learning some self defense can't hurt."
"Okay," Astrid said after a moment's pause, "It sounds like you all need to start from the basics. Learning unarmed combat is key to understanding how weapons function. We will start there tomorrow."
"Yay!" Mina squealed, jumping up and down, "We'll finally be able to take some of the boys in the class."
All the girls giggled, the boys won't know what hit them.
Astrid thought that they were celebrating prematurely, but she wasn't going to say anything. Not yet anyway.
The girls made their beds on the floor of Astrid's hut, and after some tossing and turning, finally fell asleep.
A/N What did you think? There is more to come, I promise! Reviews are greatly appriciated!
