January

Triton made sure he got to school earlier than usual. It was the start of the swimming season at school and he's already been placed as the captain at tryouts before winter break.

It was his last year and he scored higher than everyone which surprised no one. He's very well aware that he's the best of the best and that's not his pride talking.

He still liked to come to school early to practice even though he knew he didn't need to. It brought him comfort that he's doing all he could to maintain the number one position on the team.

After a half of an hour passed of swimming laps he climbed out of the pool and grabbed the towel before heading off to the locker room.

The locker room was empty as it usually was this time of morning. Which is one of the reasons why Triton preferred practicing in the mornings as no one is there.

He rinsed off in showers before drying off and changing to his regular clothes. His belongings such as his backpack and his water bottle stood on the bench where he left them. He gathered his things before exiting the locker room.

To his relief Luke wasn't lurking around. It was the first day back to school since winter break and he really hasn't seen him since the fight that happened during the last week of school in first semester.

The growing suspicion of Luke knowing about his grandfather hasn't left his mind. He's still doesn't know what to do about it as it's just hints.

The five minute bell rang on the intercom signaling class is about to start in five minutes.

Triton shook the thoughts from his mind and headed to first hour.

2nd Hour

Triton tapped his pencil on his desk drowning out Mr. Phineas going over the amendments.

He took a sip of his water bottle and recoiled at the taste. That's strange, he recalled changing the water out this morning, maybe that was a false memory and the water is just stale?

He shrugged it off and tuned back in to his government teacher. Within a few minutes he felt his body temperature skyrocket and it felt harder to breathe.

He knew immediately what was happening as it happened before. He consumed something contaminated with olives as he was deathly allergic to them. He grabbed his stuff and exited the classroom quickly without saying a word to the teacher.

Triton's thoughts were racing as he sped walked to the nurse's office. He knew his breakfast wasn't contaminated and he didn't eat anything else, so where did he come in contact with olives?

He bursted through the nurse's office door and sat down on one of the chairs going through his backpack to search for his epipens.

"Do you have a pass?"

Triton ignored the nurse and found the epipen. He grabbed it and stabbed his inner thigh with it.

"Courtney call 911! We have a student going through anaphylactic shock." The nurse called out.

To his dismay the epinephrine wasn't kicking in his system as soon as what he remembered from the last time he had an allergic reaction.

It was still difficult to circulate air. Maybe it failed? He had another epipen for this reason if it failed.

He began to rummage through his bag again to find his second epipen.

"What are you doing? You should lay back until the ambulance gets here."

He felt his tongue get tight in his mouth and his eyelids swell as he gripped the second epipen.

"No! I should be the one who administers it, it's school policy to do so. Technically I was supposed to do it the first time but I didn't know what you were doing until it was too late."

The nurse ripped the epipen out of his hands and administered the second round of epinephrine for him.

He was beyond irritated at the nurse, but he let it slide as he couldn't breathe properly. If he wasn't in a life or death situation he would have snapped at her.

He sat back waiting for his airway to open back up after thirty seconds with no improvement he began to panic.

He used two epipens and at least one of them should've taken effect. Yet his face continued to swell and his breathing was labored.

"Hmmm. The epinephrine should have taken effect by now. Is it easier for you to breathe?"

Triton glared at the nurse trying to convey that the epipen didn't work, as he couldn't talk even if he wanted to.

"Phoebe the paramedics are here!"

Triton barely made out the shout that came from a separate room in the nurses office as his attentiveness was on his breathing.

"He had two epipens administered and he's still not breathing right." The nurse informed the two paramedics that wheeled in a gurney.

"Two?" The female paramedic questioned.

"Yes. I administered the second round a couple of minutes after the first."

The male paramedic glanced at the female paramedic silently asking her a question.

The female nodded before speaking, "We will try giving him a third dose. The third time is the charm."

Triton's vision began to darken around the edges, his breathing was coming in through meager gasps. He disassociated with his environment to the point he didn't even feel the stab of the third epipen.

The paramedics stood by watching him, soon enough his breathing became more stable.

"The third time really is the charm." The male paramedic said pulling out a flashlight, "Alright, I need to look into your mouth to check the swelling."

He did what the paramedics instructed wanting nothing more than to go home. He was very disappointed to learn that he wasn't going home but to a hospital.

The paramedics put an oxygen mask over his mouth and nose as soon as they got into an ambulance. The male paramedic sat down next to him as the female paramedic drove them the short distance to the hospital.

Within ten minutes they were wheeling him through the hospital doors. Breathing was much easier than what it was earlier, but he didn't feel the swelling go down on his face.

"We have an eighteen year old male who went into anaphylactic shock. At our arrival his O2 sat was at 84 it is now at 93 but it continues to rise. The school said he administered two epipens before we arrived but both of them didn't take effect. We administered a third one and it opened his airways." The female paramedic relayed to the waiting hospital staff.

"Let's administer 80mg of Benadryl to take some of the swelling down." A doctor instructed the nurses surrounding him.

The staff wheeled him into a separate room and started to find a vein for an IV.

"What are you allergic to?" A nurse asked finding a vein and inserting the needle into his arm.

"Olives."

He winced at the sound of his own voice. It was rough and scratchy.

"Little cuz?"

Triton rolled his eyes. It was just his lucky day to be trapped in the hospital with his energetic cousin Apollo.

The nurse turned around after taping the IV port to his arm, "I'll leave you two alone. Call if he relapses Apollo."

From what Triton could see through his swollen eyes, Apollo stood by the door with a clipboard in his hand flipping through papers.

"Where did you come into contact with olives?" Apollo asked taking his eyes off the papers.

"I don't know."

"What's the last thing you ate?"

"Cereal. It had no olives in there as we don't have any olives at the house."

"Well you needed to consume something that was contaminated with olives in order for an reaction to occur."

Triton shrugged not knowing what to tell him, "I only ate the cereal and drank some water."

Apollo pointed to the his backpack the paramedics transferred over, "Is that your water?"

Triton nodded and watched Apollo set down the clipboard and grabbed his water bottle before he opened it.

Apollo paused staring at the water inside the bottle, "You had no knowledge of the several olives in your water?"

"There's olives in there?"

"There's at least nine in there. I need to know who put those in there and when you last drank from the water bottle?"

"I don't know who put them in there. The last time I drank from there was shortly before I had the reaction. Is that why the water tasted weird?"

Apollo screwed the top back on to the water bottle and set it down, "Did you drink the water anytime before that?"

Triton scrunched his eyebrows. He swore he changed out the water earlier this morning.

He got ready for school, drove to school, and was about to change into his swimsuit but he took a sip from his water bottle.

"I did drink from it earlier this morning and had no reaction."

"It probably didn't have olives in it then. Did you see anyone touch it afterwards?"

"No, but I left it unoccupied in the locker room. I guess someone could have messed with it there?"

"That's most likely when they were put in there. I need you to write a list of who could've put-"

A buzz and a light came from Apollo's white jacket. Apollo fished out a small device from his pocket.

"One of your parent's is here. I'll go bring them back, but in the meantime think of anyone who could've known about your allergy and would've put them in your water."

Triton watched Apollo leave and he mulled over his thoughts. No one knew about his allergy except his parents and Percy. He didn't get along with Percy, but he knew wouldn't stoop so low to put olives in his water. Maybe someone looked at his school records, which did list his allergy in there in case of an emergency. There's several students who didn't like him, the top being Luke. He didn't think Luke will risk putting him in a near death experience as he never pulled a stunt like that before. The other students he couldn't tell as he never got to know them personally.

A hand drew the curtain back and his father came into his room wincing at the sight of him.

"Hey Triton, I see you're not having the best of days."

No shit. Triton kept his mouth shut, he's too tired to face any repercussions his tongue may cause him.

"Are you feeling better with the Benadryl they administered?"

He groaned, "Not at this moment, no."

His father winced again due to his voice and he sat next to him.

Poseidon rubbed his hands together "I need to ask some questions as it's very unusual to have olives inside of a water bottle. Did you see anyone put olives inside of your water bottle?"

"If I did I wouldn't have drank out of it."

"Did you see your grandfather at school today?"

"No."

Triton closed his eyes. He forgot about the fact his grandfather is freely roaming around threatening to kill him.

The curtain drew open as Apollo and his mother stepped in. Amphitrite was pale as she held an envelope in her hands.

Amphitrite held out the envelope to her husband, " I parked next to your car, and this was under your windshield wipers."

Triton didn't need to wonder what was inside the envelope as he had a solid guess as to what it was.

Poseidon nodded and took the envelope from her hand. He stood up, "I'm gonna make some calls, I'll be back."

His mother nodded and took her husband's seat by her son and took his hand, "How are you feeling sweetie?"

Triton shook his head unable to convey the feeling into words.

"Fortunately Triton's throat is open and he's able to breath properly. The Benadryl helped a little with the swelling. I'll put in a request for another dose as I believe another dose will reduce most of the swelling." Apollo replied.

His mother nodded, "Thank you."

"No problem. I have other patients to go check on. If he relapses press the call light, it will signal a nurse to come and check on him. "

Apollo nodded at them before leaving the mother and son alone.

"Your father is going to go down to the school and get this all sorted out."

Triton nodded willing the day to be over.

Four Days Later

The cold water awakened his senses as he swam through the waves to find the turtle.

He cursed every manufacturer who produced paper and plastic straws. He would pay an endless amount of money to see them all burn.

Sure enough the turtle in question had a straw stuck in it's nasal passage. He grabbed the turtle and kicked back up to the surface.

His father and Percy was on the boat waiting for the turtle. He pulled himself up on the boat and handed the turtle off to his father before beelining it into the boat cabin. He changed out of his wetsuit and into his warm clothes.

He wrapped a blanket over his shoulders letting his mind wander. He wondered how warm it is in Australia? It's the summer season over there and he's sure he would be soaking in the sun once he goes there for college.

He hasn't had the chance to tell anyone about him getting accepted to the Australian college. He was going to tell his parents but the olive incident happened and he had to put it off.

He scowled at the memory. It's been four days since he went into anaphylactic shock and

It still plagued his mind. He figured his grandfather must've entered the school in a secret manner and slipped them in. Maybe Luke helped him get in as he hinted about knowing him?

The boat cabin door opened and his father and Percy came in and took liberty in the heat.

"Is there any calls you don't take? Or is there a point where it isn't worth the catch?" Percy shivered.

"There's always worth, son. But we usually don't go to the ones that are small, or can be release back into the wild right after capture during the winter season. The reason why we answered this one is because the turtle was spotted to have a tracker."

Percy rubbed his hands up and down his arms trying to regain some warmth. Triton rolled his eyes, Percy never went into the water. He wouldn't know what cold was until it bit him in ass.

"Why are you complaining? It isn't like you went into the water".

He grabbed his water bottle but before he drank he inspected the water. He's still cautious when it came to drinking anything. He didn't want to have a repeat of almost dying, that wasn't fun.

"At least I'm not the one who's paranoid to drink from a water bottle." Percy egged on.

"Boys! Enough! Percy sit down and be quiet. Triton is right to check, you could never be too careful." His father reprimanded.

"He started it." Percy whined.

"Perseus! Sit. Down!"

Percy sat down with a huff. Triton smirked, it wasn't usual for his father to take his side. Possibly it was him almost dying that had something to do with it. Whatever it was he's happy that the brat got the brunt of it.

"Get that smirk off that face Triton! You two have been behaving for almost six months! Yet these last four days it seems like all reserve has been shut off. Pull yourself together, this isn't the time to be bickering."

The last four days has been full of fights between him and Percy. It wasn't his fault that Percy became whiny when the attention was off him.

"Perseus, I swear if you're about to say 'he's the one who starts it' then you can shut your mouth."

Percy shut his mouth, crossing his arms. Triton fought hard to keep his mouth to not form into another smirk or smile.

"Alright, we're going back to the aquarium. I don't want to hear a single peep from either one of you. Do I make myself clear?"

Percy nodded slouching back into his seat.

"Yes sir." Triton replied sarcastically.

His father glared at him. Perhaps he pushed it a little, but he was dying to get away from Percy as he hasn't been separated from him in four days.

They arrived at the aquarium and their father was stilled angry with them. Triton was true to his word did not utter anything else during the ride back.

Delphin was standing at the entrance with a smile. At least one of them is happy, but it's a rare day for Delphin not to be.

"How was the rescue?"

No one responded to Delphin's question. Triton did know how to but the rescue in words as it was successful but not enjoyable.

"I'm taking that as not well. If your father doesn't have anything for you to do, Percy. I can take you for the last examination of Bessie."

Triton silently cheered as Percy went off to do something else. Now he just had to shake loose from his father.

Nerus came to where Poseidon and Triton were standing carrying tank cleaning supplies, and set them down at the nearby table.

"Where's Percy?"

"Delphin is showing him Bessie's final check up. What still needs to be done today?" Poseidon asked.

"I haven't gotten to the feedings yet."

"Alright, Triton and I will do the feedings."

Triton rolled his eyes and muttered under his breath. Breaking free from his father might be more difficult than he thought.

They walked over to the cooler and Poseidon grabbed Bruce's food of small shrimp and plankton. He handed the food to him while they headed to Bruce's tank.

Bruce is a blind whale shark and it is currently the largest creature the had at the rescue, as Bruce grew up to thirty eight feet in length.

Triton tossed the small shrimp and plankton into Bruce's tank. He figured he may need to try his luck in order for his father give him some space.

"You know it would go a lot faster if we would feed the animals separately rather than together."

"Don't push it Triton" Poseidon sighed.

He's going to have to pull out the big guns. He turned around with an eyebrow raised, "Well I mean... You do realize that I'm of legal age and can watch out for myself-"

"Triton I said not to push it."

"-I don't need a babysitter. I do have to go back to school. After all I'm leaving the country in six months-"

"That is it! I have had it with you! You never listen! For goodness sake you almost died four days ago! Both of your epipens failed, and if the ambulance didn't get there in time...

All I ask is for you to take it seriously. You've been very nonchalant with all of this, or you give off the impression that you don't care-"

Poseidon stopped in the middle of his rant, "What do you mean you're leaving the country in six months?"

Triton shrugged, "I got an email last week. I got accepted to James Cook University."

Technically it was two weeks ago, but his father didn't need to know that.

"Thee James Cook University? The one in Australia?"

Triton snorted, "I believe that's the only James Cook University."

"That is the number one ranking school for Marine Biology in the world. You got in?"

Triton nodded slowly while using a paper towel to wipe off the shrimp and plankton remnants from his hands. "Apparently."

"Apparently! You found out last week! Why am I now hearing about this? Does your mother even know?"

Triton shook his head, "Not yet."

"Were you ever going to tell us? Or were you just waiting for me to explode to pop the news in?"

He wasn't really wrong. He was waiting for an opportune moment, he just didn't imagine this would be it.

"I did mean to tell you earlier, but the whole olive thing kinda of spoiled the plans. Can you just pretend that I didn't say anything until I tell mom?" Triton pleaded.

"You better tell her tonight! I don't know how long I can keep this a secret."

His father engulfed him in a bear hug. "Congratulations !"

"Do we really have to this here?" Triton squeaked out not used to this affection.

Poseidon chuckled "There's is nobody in this room but us and Bruce. There are no witnesses as Bruce is blind."
