"Cal," Gillian let out a long and loud sigh, conveying in it a strong mix of frustration, mild amusement and resignation. "The last time you went to a law enforcement conference on your own and ended up in the back of a Mexican police car." Cal and Gillian attend a forensic conference together: yes, not a very original scenario but you know me, I don't do predictable do I?

Cal trying to kiss Gillian. How would that happen? Various options. Callian. Romance, Drama.

Sting. Sting. Sting. Cal wants to poke Gillians heart until she bleeds all over him. Callian. Love.

"I'm just stocking up," she confessed capturing his lips for a kiss. "Emily arrives tomorrow and I figured we won't have much time like this for a few days, at least not until you tell her." Gillian can't sleep. Cal helps. One-shot. Established relationship.

"Why you always pulling away from me, eh? Why won't you let me close?"

There never has been a version of him she couldn't handle.

Cal and Gillian cross paths at an academic conference in late 2003. "She had some innate ability to see the good hiding beneath his most ignoble actions, the good that he generally tried to conceal. There was something disconcerting about being seen through like that. But there was something about it he liked as well."

"I was just on the phone with Emily. No, nothing wrong, don't worry." Gillian added quickly, smiling at the way his whole body had already tensed. But then she looked away for a brief moment, somewhat unease as she had to go on. "She uh…she invited me to her birthday, this weekend?". A little short story for you: Emily's birthday is coming up and Cal gives her free reins!

When a bloodied and bruised Cal walks into the office, for him and Gillian it's time to face the past and try to make sense of the present.
