Chapter 001 Part 1 (Revision):
Yay! I'm in One Piece!
(or a Self-Insert refusing to acknowledge she reincarnated in the wrong fictional world)

As the girl stared at her hand, she suddenly questioned her entire existence and place in the universe. Which wasn't necessarily normal for a four-year-old, but it may be for a seventeen-year-old who died and was now in a four-year-old body. She wouldn't know, it's not like she had a great sample size to compare experiences and obtain a standard.

What she did know is that, besides her hand now being super tiny and squishy (which was adorable yet useless), there was a monster in front of her. She wanted to say a colossal behemoth whose head reached the sky, but since she's now a four-year-old that observation may be biased.

"Are you lost?" the giant black and white creature asked her.

Since the girl was too busy gawking at him to answer, the possibly-a-person kneeled, which didn't do a lot because of how big he was. However, it did let her see him more clearly. He had a nice suit, and parts of his body were black or white in a familiar pattern. He was kinda buff, and for some reason had a triangle on his back? Which was weird, it somewhat reminded her of a fish's fin…

And suddenly, everything clicked into place and her jaw dropped to the ground.

"ARE YOU AN ORCA-MAN?!" she shouted at the person who had clearly eaten an Orca-Orca Fruit… or a Whale-Whale Fruit, Model Orca now that she thought about it… or maybe was simply an orca fish-man… or had strong orca fish-man ancestry but wasn't actually a fish-man, only had characteristics of one… it could even be an oddly-shaped orca who learnt how to speak human through years of hard work…

…In retrospect, maybe it wasn't so clear after all.

"Are you a fish-man or did you eat a Devil Fruit?" she asked, because misnaming him would be rude.

"…Excuse me?" he said after freezing at the question. "I'm sorry, I don't understand. Do you mean my quirk?" he asked somewhat helpfully.

After some deliberation she decided that, because of how he framed his question, she was somewhat confident that he was an orca fish-man. Mostly because every time the loonies had a Devil Fruit user, it was a curse or an abomination. A quirk was too tame a word for it, so he was probably referring to his particular race of fish-man. She nodded and continued to look up at him in absolute wonder because he was a god-damned fish-man in the flesh!

The Orca-Something simply chuckled at something she didn't get and ruffled her hair, which was great because she didn't wanna fight an Orca-Something, at least not yet. She needed Haki or a Devil Fruit for that, and she didn't have those. She thought she didn't have those. Did she have those? She wanted those.

The man stopped moving his hand and stared at her, which was deeply unsettling considering his eyes were red and in a perpetual glare. His hand dwarfing her head didn't help, because now she realized how easily he could squish it like a grape. And the sudden memories of Akainu, Absolute Justice and the Marines in general didn't help either. Or how most pirates are not Luffy and will kill and raid to their hearts' content. And depending on when she was, fish-men may also hate humans, and she felt pretty human right about now.

He continued to glare at her, and she began to sweat under his gaze. His hand felt heavy and she was straining her neck to look into his eyes, but she couldn't look away despite the continuous effort to maintain eye contact. She was frozen in terror, refusing to move in case she aggravated him in some way. But still, by concentrating on her peripherals she managed to ignore the fact that she could very well die right now by giant killer whale.

In trying to ignore the staring contest without breaking eye contact, she noticed how her still extended hand was now black in a familiar way.

Armament Haki.

The rush of strength, the feeling of invulnerability, she now realized it flooded through her veins. She felt how her flesh had hardened and thickened, as her will was made manifest. Yet it felt sluggish and heavy, as if her body couldn't handle it or wasn't used to it. But with this surge of power came bravery and a chance to fight back.

Without really questioning it, she simply thanked her luck and punched that ugly animal in the face. He recoiled slightly, but was otherwise fine. In contrast, she felt like she just punched a brick wall. The man was now more confused than angry, which she counted as a win, so she decided to punch him again. This time, he didn't even flinch and she felt like she just broke her hand.

The orca was amused with her attempts and was sizing her up like a juicy piece of meat, trying to determine whether he found a toy or a snack. She wanted to punch him again in his smug face but she had trouble making a fist, so she simply slapped him. Then she remembered she had another arm, and punched him properly. Both did nothing, but she felt better about it. She would have kicked his shins, but his hand kept her in place.

"Stupid carnivorous Zoans…" She muttered under her breath a little too loudly, considering the aforementioned Zoan answered.

"Now now, heroes don't discriminate just because a quirk makes you look like an animal, carnivorous or otherwise. And you want to be a heroine, don't you?" he asked in a patronizing way, as if educating a child who didn't know better (which, fair, she was inhabiting a child's body after all).

But… Hero? What did he mean, a revolutionary? They sort of were heroes, in a way, fighting against the injustice of the world government. If that was the case…

"I don't wanna be a hero, I wanna be a PIRATE!" she shouted, explaining her dream. "And not just any pirate, but a Straw Hat Pirate! I will sail the seven seas and…! And…!"

…Huh, what did she actually want to accomplish? What was her dream, compared to the rest of the Straw Hats? Was it enough to simply want to be with them, or was that stalkerish? If anything, it must be a dream that can only be accomplished in this world… Mmh…. Getting a Devil Fruit? Yeah, but which one? Flying is sweet and a lot of Fruits accomplish it, but invisibility with the Clear-Clear Fruit sounds good, and invincibility from a Logia does too, and the transformations from a Zoan are versatile and cute. But you only get one, barring a certain exception. Maybe…

"I wanna find the Copy-Copy Fruit, so I get all the powers!" she announced. "Blackbeard will wish he was me! And once I get all the powers, I get to use all the powers however I want! I will fly between islands to visit all my friends, be invisible so nobody can nag me while I'm trying to sleep, be immune to pain because it hurts otherwise, and be a cute kitten while doing all that and more! That is my dream!" she declared to the world.

It was a childish dream, wishing to eat her cake and have it too. A naïve one, that went against the logic she learnt of the setting and quite possibly impossible, considering she wanted to find an imaginary Devil Fruit she just invented and decided she wanted. It was also self-serving and whimsical, power for the sake of convenience and a comfortable life.

It wasn't the dream of an idealistic hero after all. It was the dream of a Pirate through and through. And despite how unrealistic it may be, that was her dream and she would explore every nook and cranny to accomplish it. It didn't matter how that damn orca had tuned out her rant, she knew that a certain D. would support her all the way.

"So either help me find Monkey D. Luffy right now, or let me go! I got a dream to make reality!"

She didn't care whatever he was, he could be a secret All-Star of the Beast Pirates for all that mattered. She now had a dream, and she was ready to make it come true, even if she had to punch him a thousand times before he let go.

As she was readying her right hand into a fist and clenching her teeth through the newfound pain, the orca wisely decided to free her, obviously in fear of the consequences otherwise. She was a future Straw Hat Pirate after all, or at least hoped so.

"Ah, I see. So all we have to do is find Monkey-san, right? Would you be okay with waiting for him at the police station?" he asked, which threw her for a loop.

Did… did he not know who Luffy was? Or Dragon, or even Garp? No, wait, backup, police station? Not guard barracks, or marine base, or soldier outpost, or a sheriff's house? Are there even police in One Piece? Maybe in one of the blues, but you mostly have marines running justice except… when pirates… run… stuff… Shit, she may be in Big Mom or Kaido's territory, there were police there. Maybe Wano? It's isolated enough for Luffy to not be known yet… But all the buildings look really modern with all the skyscrapers, unlike traditional Wano. The clothing is wrong too, and weren't fish-men considered monsters in Wano due to their isolationism? ...Didn't they kill outsiders who entered the country?

…She hoped it's not Wano.

So an island she never saw then? It was weird how everything was shiny and new, but One Piece was so anachronistic with its technology that she didn't question it, there were robots and cyborgs and clones and so much more after all. A little skyscraper was entirely possible, but it made her question where she actually was. The Germa Kingdom could definitely look like this if they wanted, but the few pictures she saw of it had castles. The Holy Land of the Celestial Dragons could afford the expense and would definitely hoard the knowledge of how to achieve it to feel special about how different and advanced they are, but again, non-enslaved fish-man was right there.

So… Grand Line's New World shenanigans, she guessed? Since the Marines aren't using it, it must be out of their reach, which means New World. Was this how Shank's territory looked like? Wait! Was this Laugh Tale?! The Void Century spewed out robots left and right, so a pristine island from that time surely had skyscrapers!

…She expected it to be more deserted, though. And wasn't there a whole mountain with no buildings in sight? The girl tried to deduce where in the ever-loving Oda she was, but she just couldn't think of something that made complete sense.

Well, she could always just ask. It would have been faster to just do it, but she wanted to discover it by herself. Journey over destination and all that jazz.

"Question, which sea are we in right now?" she asked, because you never knew if the island could move between seas. It was a distinct possibility in the Grand Line. The fish-man looked at her weird, but she felt it was a valid question. After some reluctant silence, he answered.

"We are in the East Sea." he managed to say despite his confusion.

Ah, so out of the Blue Sea, they're in the East Blue. Weird way to say East Blue considering it's an ocean and not a sea, but the combination of five oceans is called Blue Sea, so she's not one to judge, it gets pretty confusing. Ah, now that she remembers, the Blue Sea is called that because it's made of water, and the White Sea is the clouds. It still doesn't make sense because both should be oceans or a collective word for oceans, so now she's more confused and will simply cease this line of thinking for the sake of her sanity.

In other news, Luffy isn't known despite being in his Blue. That probably meant he didn't begin his journey yet, so she still had time to join him before having to deal with the entrance to Paradise alone. Maybe if she's lucky enough, she will be his first crewmate! Or he's still a kid with Ace and Sabo and she can hang out with them. Wait, she can probably keep Ace alive with her future knowledge! Man, look at her go, already fixing the timeline. She would say she will get everyone to live, but a lot of people that died got better afterwards, so there aren't a lot of deaths to prevent.

She did briefly wonder why an island in the East Sea would look so modern, but she swept it under the rug with a mental shrug. From an island that makes illusions based on your memories of what a city is to a secret super advanced island that evaded Marine's notice through submerging into the water below, she didn't really care unless it affected her. If nobody worried about something similar to an Aqua Laguna, then she was just happy to start in an island so similar to her previous life. Maybe whoever reincarnated her did so in this specific island, so she would acclimatize better. Speaking of…

"Okay, which island are we on?"

That was important. She could be lucky and be in Dawn Island with Luffy, or be on an island that was never mentioned.

"Honshu?" he offered.

"Is that a question or an answer?"

"Honshu." he affirmed with conviction.

Great, so an island out in the loonies. He didn't even say Honshu Island! It's the proper way, so obviously he's inexperienced with how this works, or are isolated and do things their own way. Did they even have a Den Den Mushi if there were no marines here? Actually, what was a fish-man doing in the East Blue? He obviously wasn't with Arlong, she was alive after all. Maybe he got lost? That would explain his hesitation at naming the island.

No matter, she had a mission and a possible venue to achieve it, despite how awkward that mode of transportation was.

"Could you swim me to Dawn Island?" she asked hopefully, using her puppy eyes for greater effect. She was a kid now after all, she had to use all her advantages.

"Yeees…?" He hesitated, before asking a question of his own. "How did you get here?"

"I have no idea!" she answered honestly and full of enthusiasm, because she was in the One Piece world. Little details like how and why didn't really matter to her. "One moment I was somewhere, and the next I'm here!"

The fish-man hesitated at her answer and thought for a bit, before nodding to himself.

"I would have to look up its location, but my crew could certainly transport you there if that's where you're from."

Good, he had an actual ship and crew. She feared she would have to ride him all the way there, but being on a ship is easier and more comfortable.

"Good, what do you want in exchange for a ride? I don't have money, but I'm willing to work."

He looked at her funny, which she was a little offended by. Yeah, she was currently a kid, but even with her strength she could wash dishes or sweep the floor. Every crew needed a cabin boy, or girl in this case. Also, please ignore that the Straw Hats didn't have one, they are not an accurate portrayal of normality. Their first ship was a literal barrel for goodness' sake.

"I'm a hero, I don't need to get paid by the people I save." he clarified.

She didn't question him, because if she did he might reconsider. She would just take advantage of the idealistic hero and milk him for all she could. Sure, she could have said a cheesy line like "I don't need to, but I want to," but if she didn't have to pay then she simply wouldn't.

"Then let's go already, we're burning sunlight!"

She took his hand and tried to force him to go with her, but his gigantic body refused to budge to her little girl's strength. She still tugged, even after she realized she didn't know if the direction she was going was the correct one. She would simply say it's the scenic route if asked.

"We still need to go to the police station, in case we can communicate with Monkey-san."

"Then let's go there already!"

She tried to hurry him, but he was walking extremely slow, as if to further infuriate her.

"What is your name?"

"I don't know!" she answered honestly. "I forgot, or know the wrong one, or never knew in the first place! Who knows, not me!"

He never paused in his stride, but it was a close thing.

"I hope my middle name starts with a D! Or is simply the letter D! That would be ideal, but I'm fine with the first option." she explained.

He didn't understand her explanation, which was weird because it was very clear. He didn't ask for clarification, so she let it slide and moved on.

"How is it like to be an orca fish-man? Breathing underwater and stuff?" she purposefully changed to subjects he should know about, but apparently didn't judging by his orcish face.

"Orcas… aren't fish." he corrected wrongly.

"False! Jinbe is a whale shark fish-man, and orcas are whales, so you're a fish-man!"

He took time to process her irrefutable logic, and still tried to deny it.

"Whale sharks… are sharks. Not whales."

"So?" she asked, now completely aware of her error yet refusing to accept it out of embarrassment. She was a kid now; it was a valid argument to be stupid.

"Sharks are fish. Whales are mammals. Orcas are whales and mammals."

"Good logic," she admitted, "but did you consider that if you're right, I would have to call you a mammal-man instead?"

He was obviously considering it now, and after a minute of walking silently, he found his answer.

"I'm an orca-man." he compromised.

Which… was technically incorrect, unless he ate an Orca-Orca Fruit. But she didn't mention it, because she really didn't want to call him an orca mammal-man.

"You're an orca-man." she conceded.

"And you're an orca-girl." he further stated.

"I'm an orca-girl?" she asked, confused.

"You're an orca-girl." he confirmed as he stopped in front of a reflective window.

She… was an orca-girl. With black arms, so she probably didn't unlock Haki when she thought she did. She didn't remember eating a Devil Fruit before turning black, and she was definitely not black before. As she tried to determine if she remembered the color of her arms wrong and if she was actually a fish-mammal-woman all along, she stopped being an orca-girl, which just served to further confuse her.

She liked having hair again, especially such a pretty blond accompanied with sky blue eyes, but she was still trying to inspect her orca form. This desire apparently made her an orca-girl again.

"Did… did I eat the Orca-Orca Fruit without realizing it? Am I a Zoan now?" she murmured to herself.

She let go of the man's hand and experimented with her new power. She went back to being human and tried to become an orca-girl, but suddenly she was incapable of doing so. So… not a Zoan. Somehow. Wait… did the orca-man eat the Orca-Orca Fruit, but it was a reverse Zoan, where he could give the power to others? Or was that how awakened Zoans worked?

"Can you transform others into orcas?" she asked, genuinely baffled by his Devil Fruit Ability.

Apparently, he was baffled too. Which would be entirely reasonable when you discover a new aspect of your Devil Fruit, but he had at least since she punched him to realize what was happening.

"Isn't that… your quirk?"

"Transforming into orcas if I'm touching one?"

"Yes? Maybe?"

She considered it for a moment, then discarded it because of how utterly ridiculous it was, even by One Piece standards. Then she saw a cat-man in a police uniform with an actual cat head instead of just cat ears, and suddenly reconsidered what her definition of strange really meant.

As she pondered if an orca-man who ate an Orca-Orca Fruit would be an orca-orca-man, she found herself linking hands with the cat-man for some reason, who shared her confusion with the act.

He was weird, he only had a cat head but his hands were human, not fluffy at all. His tabby cat head was acceptable, and she quite liked the look of it, but it really contrasted with the police uniform and she didn't know how she felt about it. As she observed him, she was rudely interrupted by the orca-man, who moved her head back to the window who now showed two cat-people.

…Well. That's a thing…

"I think I already ate the Copy-Copy Fruit." she said while petting her own fluffy head. "And I think I should be happy, but I'm mostly confused about how I managed to do it, especially because I decided I wanted it after I already got it."

Chapter 001 Part 2:
Gang Orca's weird-weird day
(or misinterpretations galore)

Sakamata Kugo, better known as the Killer Whale Hero: Gang Orca, was experiencing a weird day.

It began like any other day with a hero patrol, walking the streets and detaining some Villains. He had finally obtained enough sidekicks to fully operate a sea vessel without any non-hero crew member being necessary, which had been his dream since he graduated. And now that he accomplished it, he was pondering if he should get a second boat or a bigger one.

His musings were interrupted by a seemingly lost child looking at her own hand. As any Hero worth their salt, he approached her and asked her if she was lost. She seemed intimidated and scared, a fair reaction despite how he hates it, so he kneeled to not tower over her. He was accustomed to being feared, and knew that simply letting them acclimatize to his presence went a long way to calm down civilians.

However, her getting star-eyed as she asked him if he was an "orca-man" was not the reaction he expected. Even if she spoke nonsense he didn't understand, the girl seemed genuinely happy to see him, which brought a chuckle out of him. He ruffled the hair of his young fan, and wasn't that a nice thought, having a young fan. He had almost given up after he made a baby cry, but apparently sea lovers came in all shapes and sizes.

He was shocked to see the girl develop a Mutant Quirk right in front of him, an Orca Quirk no less. Or was that a Transformation Quirk? The girl was surprised too, if her frozen smile as she looked into nothing despite making eye contact showed. That was a fair reaction, he thought, the first time you used your Quirk was always special.

She then looked at her own black hand and her smile widened into a true ferocious grin. He's gonna be sincere, he did not expect the punch to the face. Nor the punch afterwards, but at that point he was more amused at her experimenting with her newfound Quirk to be angry at the violence. She then slapped him and punched him with her other arm, as if the problem was the hand she was using.

Of course, his humor was somewhat dampened by her strange comment about carnivorous beings, so he went out of his way to correct that line of thinking. Snipping these type of problems in the bud was necessary to prevent discrimination towards Mutant Quirks in adulthood, and it would be quite sad to see the girl hate herself for her type of Quirk. He then wrapped up the lesson by telling her how Pro Heroes don't do that, and she wanted to be one, didn't she? All the kids did, after all.

The kid looked confused at him, and then was fully offended with his lesson. She said she wanted to be a pirate, which made him sigh in his own mind and tune her rant out for a bit. Honestly, why couldn't more people want to be part of the navy instead of a romance pirate? Real pirates weren't the good guys, but the movies always showed a biased view of them, ignoring how nasty they truly were. Human and drug trafficking were common among them, but did movies ever show that?

He was taken out of his mental rant by her asking for help to find a Monkey D. Luffy, which reminded him that she was still a lost child, so he offered to take her to the police station to try and locate him. She then proceeded to stare off into the distance, completely ignoring him and the rest of the world around her. She didn't even react when someone accidently hit her with their elbow or the apology afterwards.

The girl then proceeded to blindside him by asking in which sea they were. He still answered the question, despite how random it was. Her following question of which island they were on made him start to really question the small girl, especially due to her not recognizing the name of Honshu. How could she speak Japanese so fluently, yet not know the name of the main island of Japan? The best he could think of was that she came from an isolated island of Japan which didn't follow standard education, since by her age even the worst school would have taught her the name of the island she was on. But that only brought new questions, like how did she end up here in the first place. Did her family travel here and she got lost?

That was quickly disproven when she asked him to take her to her island, Dawn Island. He gave a dubious yes for an answer, before reassessing everything he learnt.

She was quite possibly from Dawn Island, hence her desire to return there. Dawn Island wasn't big or important enough for him to know offhand despite operating in the water, so it reinforced the theory that it would possibly not have schools with a standard curriculum, which would explain the girl not knowing Honshu but still being able to speak the language. It could even be that she's not being homeschooled, instead being taught how to fish as is standard for small islands. His question of how she got here made him think of a teleportation Quirk, rare but possible.

Thus, he arrived at the picture of a fellow child activating his Quirk for the first time and accidently sending the girl to Honshu. He nodded to himself, slightly sure he had finally grasped the situation.

He offered a ride to the misplaced girl, and she offered work in exchange. He refused, because while charity was a commendable trait to have, Pro Heroes weren't supposed to expect payment from simply doing their job. Still, first they had to go to the police station and try to communicate with this Monkey fellow, no need to make an unnecessary trip if her guardian was around and his initial deduction was wildly off or the girl had an unrestrained imagination and everything she said was done on a whim.

She was a strange girl, he decided after talking to her some more. She allegedly did not know her own name and for some reason didn't have any particular desire for a first or last name, only that her middle name started with the letter D. Why that letter he chose not to ask. His theory of her having a wild imagination and not distinguishing fantasy from reality was gaining traction, but she was still a lost, if weird, child. She also had a curious understanding of sea animals' biology and how it interacted with Mutant Quirks, perhaps a tradition in their island, if she even is from one?

She then seemed surprised that she had an Orca Quirk, and his suspicions were confirmed when she transformed back and forth. So it was a Transformation Quirk after all. And apparently, all the Quirks in her homeland were called fruit, as her mention of eating an Orca-Orca Fruit confirmed. What a curious way to name Quirks, perhaps a ritual of age involving fruit? Or, again, wild imagination. He was accustomed to interacting with fearful children and professional adults who would never just let their thoughts and imagination free, so he never truly learnt how to distinguish them apart. An… unfortunate quirk of his appearance back when he was a child made him not really interact with others like this.

It felt nice, to have a conversation similar to how it was before Orcinus manifested. Back when he didn't even know the word discrimination and Quirks were things to look forward. Now the best he got was people snickering at his tongue-tie and flinching when he looked at them, followed by an awkward and stilled talk of how he was fine with their laughs and he wasn't glaring, he knew how it looked and it was on purpose. It took days for even fellow Pro Heroes to understand and be at ease with him, and that joke magazine giving him a prize for 'hero who looks most like a villain' didn't help. To have a child be so comfortable with him... it put him in a good mood.

She then asked him if he was transforming her into an Orca and he started to wonder if kids were always so weird when not cowering in fear. Honestly, was that hard to believe becoming an Orca was your own Quirk? Did her parents not become aquatic animals, or explain how Quirk genealogy worked? Being fair, perhaps her Quirk was a mutation and had no relation to her parents' Quirk, so he wouldn't judge… And her becoming animals she touched was a valid possibility she raised he didn't think of, especially since she couldn't do it after she stopped touching him.

He saw officer Tamakawa approaching, so he waved at him to come over. He briefly explained the situation, and when the man linked hands with the girl to try and reassure her everything was going to be okay, she suddenly had a cat head.

He stared, and the girl seemed unaware of the change, so he kindly turned her head towards her own reflection. Apparently, she was surprised to have a Copy Quirk, but had easily identified it as such if her mention of a Copy-Copy Fruit was any indication. Ah, didn't she mention it before during the rant he ignored? Yeah, that would explain her confusion, she thought she had an Orca Quirk despite believing she would get a Copy Quirk (possibly because of her parents), and just now had confirmation of the truth.

Now everything made sense, except the parts that didn't. He just had to get a hold of Monkey D. Luffy and it would be the end of things. Just a quick call, that's all. Nothing could go wrong.

(As you can see, having the body and brain of an adult does wonders for having a continuous and comprehensible train of thought. Our Copy Girl may get better with age, but that is still a long way away. You may think her outlook is too scattered and immature for someone of her age, but then again, Luffy was seventeen at the start of the manga…)

(Addendum: due to some fair criticism, added sections to make it more believable and less crackish, because modern Japan wouldn't be mistaken for a One Piece island unless you went through mental hoops. Also altered others scenes and changed around the order of some stuff. This is why you should get a beta reader.)
