The screech of tires, the blast of a horn, and a ear piercing scream. That's all she heard, explosive pain made itself known in her head. Her body felt hot and she couldn't feel her legs. A dampness was along her face and under her torso. The yelling got closer, a ringing in her ears blocked what was being said. Her body started to feel colder. All sounds faded as darkness consumed her.
The girl awoke to a throbbing pain through her head and body. The ache was enough to pull a groan for her throat. Eyes peered open taking in her surroundings, confusion filled her mind at the forest around her.
'Wasn't I on the road in my neighborhood?'
Slowly she rolled over on her side pushing herself up slightly. Panting she looked over her body over, she noted that she was only in the remains of her shirt, blood stained along her left side. As she looked closer she noticed that her body seemed smaller. Noticing a stream near by, she crawled over looking into the water. Staring back at her was a face she didn't recognize. Dark blue eyes and white hair hung over her shoulder.
'What... what happened to me?'
Shaking her head she rolled into a sitting position. She pulled her shirt up she looked for the source of the blood, finding no flesh wounds she moved to prod her torso. She winced at the pain around her ribs but didn't feel any movement.
'So they're bruised but not broken. That's good.'
She stood slowly with a groan. She moved out of the clearing she awoke in, forcing herself through the brush. As she broke through the brush she noticed at beach.
'A beach? But my town is landlocked.'
The vast sea greeted her, confusing her once more. She couldn't understand what was going on. Placing a hand on her head she thought to the last thing she remembered; pushing that kid out of the way, pain, and then waking up here. Now that she throught about it she couldn't remember her name but she knew she shouldn't be as young as she appeared. She remembered celebrating her thirtieth birthday, but she had the appearance of a child no more than nine. Sighing she looked around for any sign of people. Stumbling a bit she walked around the edge of the island. She found a stick that she could use as a walking stick. It took her half a day for her to discover that she was on a small deserted island.
'Shit.'
Growing up camping she luckily knew the keys of survival. First was clean water. A glint caught her eye, two bottles were poking out of the sand not far from her. Grabbing the first one she noticed the second was broken in half, but it would still work for her purpose.
*Time Skip Three days*
It's only been a few day but the girl was able to set up a decent camp. She was able to set up an SOS and fire on the beach that would hopefully flag down a ship or plane. She was surviving on fish and fruit, but she knew that could only sustain her for so long. She was able to weave some palm leaves into bandages to wrap her ribs. She was still having trouble taking deep breath and her new stature made getting materials hard, but she was able to make do. Every afternoon she would walk on the beach looking for ships or planes. Hell she would take a helicopter at this point. Upon seeing nothing on the horizon she made her way back to camp to rest.
It's been a few hours since she checked the beach, and was currently laying on the ground to rest her ribs to much. Taking slow deep breathes she couldn't stop the wince from escaping her. Some movement caught her attention, despite the pain she forced herself up before hiding in the bushes. She couldn't be sure if whatever was coming was safe. Wincing she placed a hand on her ribs as pain rippled from them. With her size and injury she knew she couldn't defend herself. She watched as uniformed men made their way into her camp. She watched them for any sign of aggression before she would make herself known. Just as she was about to reveal herself, she saw another man enter the clearing.
'T-that can't be. What is Monkey D. Garp doing here? I have to be dreaming, yeah I passed out from the pain and I'm dreaming.'
A throbbing pain in her side was a painful reminder that this wasn't a dream. Staring down at the marine hero she watched in shock to see his eyes met hers.
'Crap how could I forget about Haki?'
She watched the marine stop several feet from her before crouching down. She knows what he's doing, trying to make himself appear less threatening. He reached into his coat pocket, her eyes not moving from him. A rice crackle came into view, she could almost feel herself do an anime fall.
"Come on out now. No one's gonna hurt ya."
The other men around them stopped moving, watching the Vice Admiral. If she was going to get any help from the marines Garp was the best one to receive it from. Nodding to herself she stood before making her way out of the bush.
"So you're the little survivalist."
His men looked shocked, "Vice Admrial you don't mean to say that she set all this up."
Garp didn't take his eyes off the girl, "well of course. Did you find any other survivors or remains?"
She move closer to Garp without any hesitation. Standing in front of the marine she stared up into his eyes. Garp couldn't stop his laugh, "you're a brave little one too, huh?"
Garp wasted no time scooping the child up before turning to his men, "we found the survivor. Let's return to the ship."
*Vice Admrial's Ship: Sickbay*
Garp walked into the sickbay with the girl in the crook of his arm. She watched him call over to the doctor.
"Do a full work up on her. We don't know how long she was on the island. When she's done have her brought to my office with her report."
Garp sat her on the table before ruffling her messy hair.
"Behave for the doctor, once you're done you'll be brought back to me and we can chat."
She just nodded at Garp, as the marine left the room.
The doctor finished her care rather quickly, she had a new set of bandages wrapped around her rips. Luckily she had no other injuries, beside being slightly dehydrated she was medically cleared.
Bogard, Garp's right hand man, walked her down to Garp's office. A file with her information on her condition in his hand. Upon coming to his office Bogard ushered her in as Garp looked up from his newspaper. She made her way to a chair in front of his desk and carefully climbed into it. Facing the man she watched as he pushed a plate of rice crackers to her. Garp looked over the report as she snacked on the offered crackers. The marine hummed as he took in the report in front of him.
"What is your name?"
She looked Garp in the eye before shaking her head at him. The marine rubbed his chin in deep thought.
"Can you remember anything about before you came to that island?"
Again she shook her head at the man, "no I woke up on the island. I couldn't remember how I ended up there I was just in pain."
Garp nodded as he grabbed a cracker himself, "and the moon on your back?"
"Moon, what moon?"
"So you don't even know about that? Well the doctor reported that there is a blue crescent moon on your back between your shoulder blade. He also reports that is was cold to the touch and that your body temperature is lower than normal."
"Oh, he only told me that I was dehydrated."
He nodded once more, a look was in his eyes, one she knew. He was remembering something, has he heard about the mark before. Garp suddenly slammed his hands on his desk as he stood. This made her jump at the sudden action as she took in the marine.
"It's settled you'll be my granddaughter, Monkey D. Luna"
