The Lucky One
Chapter 1.
Kuchiki Byakuya was in a terrible mood.
His cold grey eyes glared at the man in front of him.
"Who sent you?" Byakuya demanded to know.
The man, a pale middle-age human, scoffed at the Kuchiki heir. He didn't seem to be fazed at the fact that he was on his knees, or the fact that Byakuya was pointing his sword right at his heart, none of that mattered to him.
"Fuck you" the human spat.
Byakuya, whose patience was nonexistent at this point, kept a cool and collected pose. He fought the urge to run a hand through his black hair, and he also fought the strong urge to cut the human's head with one single strike.
He knew the human was a spy. He knew he had been sent by one of his enemies and the timing was utterly inconvenient. Why couldn't the human realm give him a fucking break? Why couldn't anyone give him a fucking break?!
"What were you looking for in my territory?" Byakuya questioned, his grey cold eyes threw daggers at the man in front of him.
The human, who was sweating and trembling slightly, kept his ground.
"Go to hell" he muttered.
Byakuya took a deep breath. He couldn't kill him, not yet.
"Take him," he ordered to Robert "to the dungeons. We'll see if he keeps this act after dealing with the guards in there."
Robert, Byakuya's most trusted man, nodded. He signaled for other two guards to grab the prisoner and they made their way towards the Kuchiki estate.
"My Lord," Robert said respectfully "shall we return to the manor as well?"
Byakuya shook his head in negative, his hair was tied in a high pony tail and his grey eyes betrayed a deep rage.
"We have to make sure there are no more spies on the outskirts," he pointed out "we'll follow the river until the border and then we'll return."
Robert nodded.
Byakuya sighed heavily and walked towards his horse. An imposing black stallion with deep dark eyes, it was waiting faithfully for it's master and, once Byakuya was seated on the saddle, it started to run alongside the river.
The guards who were next to Robert let out heavy sighs.
"The lord is pissed," Kevin breathed out once Byakuya was out of earshot "what's going on?"
Iburo shuddered.
"Soujun-sama sent a letter earlier today," he explained "I obviously don't know what was it about but after he read it the lord's mood became unbearable."
"Stop gossiping," Robert admonished his co-workers as he signaled them to get on their horses "lord Byakuya will let us know eventually, let's follow him for now."
"Yeah," Iburo agreed as he started to ride his horse following Byakuya "we have to make sure he does not kill the spies before interrogating them."
The others nodded as they followed their master.
Two young women were breathing heavily while running through the forest. They were going as fast as their legs allowed them to, their pursuers were catching up to them so it was a race for life or death.
"I told you that it was a terrible idea!" one of them gasped "we should've stayed at the Shihouin manor!"
Yoruichi Shihouin, a gorgeous dark-skinned woman, glared at her best friend.
"If we had stayed they would've caught the spies before us!" she spat.
"We didn't catch the spies, idiot! They are about to catch us!"
"Hisana!" Yoruichi groaned "just keep running!"
Hisana, a dark-haired girl with striking blue eyes clenched her fists.
"Where to exactly?!" Hisana screeched "we cannot cross the forest, we're not allowed to cross the border!"
"I have a plan!" Yoruichi assured her as she grabbed her hand.
Hisana was struggling to keep up. Yoruichi was faster and stronger than her, not to mention that her legs were also longer than hers. The branches of the trees were making it hard for her to keep a steady pace and she was getting tired.
"If I give you..." Hisana tried to say.
"No!" Yoruichi hissed, she already knew what Hisana was going to offer "we're getting out of this together!"
Hisana didn't agree entirely with that. She wanted Yoruichi to come out of this unharmed, since she was the lady of the clan, while Hisana was just an honorary member, but they were both surrounded. Whatever plan Yoruichi had it was not going to work because they had to stop running at the edge of the cliff.
"You have no sense of direction!" Hisana exclaimed, the echo of her voice filled the space around them.
"Shit!" Yoruichi cursed as she turned around.
Three hooded men stopped right in front of them, and while Yoruichi was an adept fighter, Hisana was not.
"We'll be taking them," one of the men said "we need both of them alive."
"Who the fuck sent you?" Yoruichi barked while taking a fighting pose although the disadvantage was obvious "we'll take you on!"
The man on the center took a step forward and his powerful reiatsu was truly menacing.
Hisana didn't hesitate, she grabbed Yoruichi's arm and pulled her towards her and, in a second, she kissed her cheek.
"Idiot!" Yoruichi gasped as she felt the reiatsu flowing.
Hisana wasn't surprised when after her little gesture the pursuers turned towards her and ignored Yoruichi entirely. She thought about throwing an attack but she didn't react on time and the pursuers threw a kiddo curse at her before she could even raise her palm.
"Hisana!" Yoruichi screeched but it was too late.
Hisana had fallen from the cliffs towards the river near the border.
Half an hour later Byakuya got down of his horse as he observed the riverbank.
There was no trace of spiritual pressure nearby. The river was peaceful and the sun was setting, he observed the landscape and sighed as he realized there was nothing to do here. He would have to go back and try to get something out of the human spy.
He was about to turn around but he noticed something reaching the shore and stopping against the rocks, it was hard to ignore since it was a body.
Deciding that he could not leave a poor idiot who fell from the cliffs he approached the, probably lifeless, body. He got down of the horse and walked towards the shore, he kneeled next to the body and his breath hitched.
It was a woman, a gorgeous unconscious woman, with dark hair and pale skin. He realized then that she had to be a noble, her dress and her cloak were made of the finest silk and she was wearing golden earrings.
Byakuya frowned, was she human?
He wondered what to do with her, since it was evident how she was breathing. Byakuya grabbed her carefully and took her out of the river, it was then when her eyes snapped open and she gasped for air.
Blue met grey for the first time.
Byakuya held her calmly on his arms as she regained consciousness.
He was mesmerized immediately by her unique eyes and he got to the conclusion that she was not human, the wave of reiatsu that left her the moment she opened her eyes was not to be taken lightly.
"Is Yoruichi okay?!" she asked breathlessly as she clinged to the front of Byakuya's robes and locked her eyes with his.
Her voice was really soft.
Byakuya noticed then, she had a thin golden necklace with the Shihouin crest on it.
"Who are you?" he asked as he helped her to rest her head on his lap.
"Yoruichi..."
"Yoruichi has monthly meetings with me," Byakuya frowned "you're not her."
"Take me to Yoruichi" she insisted, she was still having trouble breathing.
Byakuya frowned deeper.
"I take orders from no one," he informed calmly as he placed his hand over her belly "no matter who you are."
He applied a little pressure and started a healing spell. She sighed heavily as her breathing was normal again, she closed her eyes and fell unconscious almost instantly.
Byakuya had several questions. He didn't have an alliance with Yoruichi, but they were on amicable terms. Who was this girl? If she was a member of the clan, how come he had never seen her before? Supposedly there no secrets between both clans, as a way to keep the peace.
What was happening?
Byakuya discreetly took off the golden chain of her neck and put it on his pocket. He then picked up the girl bridal style, he decided that he would have Nonna treat her and, once she was better, he would have his answers.
Byakuya heard his men approaching him from behind so he turned around.
"My lord," Robert said "we found nothing around..." he stopped talking the moment he noticed there was someone on his boss's arms.
Byakuya noticed Robert's eyes widening with surprise. He had to admit that the fact that there was a woman on his arms was something that didn't happen often, he couldn't blame him.
Iburo and Kevin, who were flanking Robert, gaped.
"A spy?" Iburo asked, his brown hair was messy due to the ride and his brown eyes narrowed with distrust.
"Would I be holding a spy on my arms like this, Iburo?" Byakuya questioned, he looked slightly amused.
"O-of course not! My lord" Iburo stammered.
"Your orders, my lord?" Robert asked.
"I'll be taking her to the Kuchiki estate" Byakuya decided.
"Who is this woman?" Kevin asked breathlessly, the sight of his master taking care of a woman was startling.
"That's what I plan to discover" Byakuya said as he walked towards his horse with the unconscious woman on his arms.
He held her close to his chest the whole ride to the Kuchiki manor.
"Yoruichi-sama!" one of the guards exclaimed as he reached her "you caught the spies, as expected of you."
Yoruichi nodded.
Hisana's little distraction gave her enough time to attack and catch the spies so she informed the guards on her property. There would be time for interrogations later on, and the mission had been a success, the only problem was Hisana.
"Shall we call Hisana-sama?" one of the guards asked "she might be worried about you."
Yoruichi frowned. Since they didn't let anyone at the Kuchiki manor know that they were leaving, no one knew that Hisana was missing, and Yoruichi believed that it should stay that way.
"No," Yoruichi said finally "Hisana is doing something for me at the town, let's wait for her to go back to the manor."
The guards nodded as they took the spies away.
Yoruichi decided to keep Hisana's disappearance as a secret for the time being, there was a chance that no one would recognize her and that was the best for her safety.
Little did she know that Hisana was on the safest place on earth and on the arms of the most powerful lord of the land.
