"Sara, wake up, we need to go somewhere."
Sara had opted to file a leave of absence ever since she recovered her memories of the Desire Grand Prix. It was supposed to be a two-day vacation where she can accompany her parents in cleaning her brother's grave.
But, she even opted not to accompany them for that as well.
After it had been agreed upon that there really is nothing they can do, short of forcing Ace-sama to use his powers to rewrite reality, which would make all of Keiwa's efforts be all for nothing.
She was confused about why her mother was telling her to wake up when they knew about her plan to take a week off because of what happened.
"What's happening?" Sara groggily sat on her bed. "We just got a call from a hospital, claiming they have your brother," Yukino whispered.
"What?"
"Your father and I are going to the hospital to confirm it," Yukino informed her daughter. "Do you want to come with us?"
"I will, so I can kick the person responsible if this is their idea of a sick joke." Sara growled.
"The Kuramas will be here shortly, go get dressed." Yukino left her daughter.
As soon as Sara got dressed, in a simple shirt and pants, foregoing any thought of dressing in a cutesy manner as she had before, the Kuramas announced their arrival when one of Neon's bodyguards opened the door to their apartment.
"It's time."
Huh, it is natural for them to know the relationship between our family and the Kuramas due to Keiwa's sacrifice for their daughter, before they were hired.
"Have you told anyone?" Sara asked Neon once they were able to get to each other at the hospital.
"Not yet, while I am hoping this to be true, I just hope no one is playing a sick joke," Neon admitted. "Only a few people know Keiwa's identity as the kid who was kidnapped with me that day." She sighed as she held her hands together. "If this was just some sick joke, we can narrow it down because they're the only ones aware of that situation to its fullest detail."
Both Neon and Sara couldn't bear to be in the same room as the person everyone suspected to be Keiwa. Sara's parents seemed to be convinced that was the case, but Neon and Sara need a lot more convincing.
"Neon-nee."
Sara and Neon looked in the direction of where the voice came from, it was Akari, who was rushing towards them.
Akari looked so much like Neon, it is to be expected from identical twins. The key difference between sisters was the way they do their hair: Neon likes to tie up her hair, sometimes making it into a bun or a ponytail.
Akari's hair has always been free to fall, without a care, with the occasional pink hair band for special occasions.
"Neon-nee, Kei-nii is awake."
"Kei-nii?"
Sara and Neon looked at each other before rushing to the hospital room where Sara's brother was supposed to be staying.
He was supposed to be unconscious after he gave the doctors his name after waking up for the first time.
"Keiwa?"
Sara exclaimed as he opened the door to her brother's room, and there was indeed her brother, hooked up to various machines, on the bed, looking as if he'd been asleep for years.
"I'm sorry nee-chan." Keiwa apologized with a hoarse voice.
"You idiot!" Sara was about to rush to her brother when her father stopped her in her tracks.
"Sara, I know the urge to hug your brother is so strong, but please he's still hooked to a lot of machines that are keeping him alive, please wait until they give the okay."
"It's okay, Sara-chan, we will let you know when you can hug your younger brother as soon as we can, okay?"
Sara could only nod.
"Shigeru, Yukino, Irumi, why don't we leave our daughters behind and we can talk about costs." Kousei Kurama stated diplomatically.
"Of course, Kurama-sama."
"Shigeru, how many times do I have to tell you, it's Kousei." Kousei offered an amicable smile. "Our family owes a great deal of debt on your family that I don't think we can ever pay."
"Sara, we're just going to talk in the cafeteria, please look after your brother." Yukino smiled at her daughter. "Call us if anything happens, okay?"
"Of course." Sara nodded.
"Neon, we'll be by the cafeteria." Irumi informed her eldest daughter.
"Yes, mother."
"Akari, do you want to come with Mommy and Daddy?" Kousei questioned his youngest daughter.
"I will be with Neon-nee for a bit then I will buy myself something to eat." Akari shook her head.
"Once you bought your food, join us in the cafeteria, okay, sweetie?" Irumi smiled at her youngest daughter.
"Of course, mother." Akari stated cheerfully.
Once the four parents of the group left Keiwa's room, Akari sighed dropping the picture-perfect smile she had.
"And they're talking business again." Akari huffed.
"It's what they do, Akari-chan."
"Doesn't mean I have to like it." Akari pouted. "It's boring when they talk business, and I'm supposed to inherit more than half of the shares.
"Guess what, if you can get Neon-nee something to eat from the vending machines near the entrance then we'll go to the amusement park."
"Without the bodyguards?"
"Unfortunately, they have to be with us when we go there."
"Ben and John will be there?"
"Of course!"
"Among everyone, I like them a lot."
"So do I, Akari-chan, so do I." Neon smiled at her younger twin. "Now off you go now."
"Okay!" Akari skipped outside the room.
"Ben, please?"
"Of course, milady," Ben nodded, 'John will be outside." He added before closing the door.
"Keiwa?" voiced out as soon as the door closed. "How?"
"How what, nee-chan?"
Neon retrieved her ID core, the new ID core she had received from Ace when her old one was crushed to pieces by Michinaga, and held it tightly.
Neon was desperate to know why Keiwa would sacrifice himself.
After everything they did together.
After everything that has happened.
Why did he feel the need to sacrifice himself?
Sara gulped some saliva as she thought of the words she wanted to say.
"I… I'm sorry." Sara opted to apologize. "I'm sorry for not prioritizing school over you that day."
"Wha, no!" Keiwa wanted to get up, but due to his condition, he was weak to even get sit up on his bed. "You don't have to apologize, if we didn't have that fight, maybe Neon-chan would have died, I'm sure she's living her happy life now."
"Why?" Neon questioned in a hushed tone. "Why do that, just for me?"
"Y-you're Neon-chan?" Keiwa's mouth hung open. "Wow, you've grown!"
"Why would you do something like that, for me?" Neon couldn't help but approach her savior. "You had so much to live for, your parents and sister… Just why?"
"Because it was the right thing to do."
The answer filled both Sara and Neon with relief and sadness. Keiwa had been against the group when He still insisted on things going his way.
It even got to a point where he sided with the DGP and defended Sueru and the DGP's staff from Ace and everyone else.
And back then, he was so convinced that his method was the right thing to do.
Forgetting that she was holding onto her ID core, Neon held Keiwa's hands, not knowing how to respond to his words.
"You remember," Keiwa muttered to himself. "Neon-chan, you remember."
"Keiwa?"
"Hakubi, Na-go, Tycoon." Keiwa pointed at his sister, at Neon, then at himself.
"You know?"
"How do the two of you remember everything?" Keiwa couldn't help but ask. "Of course, Tsumuri-san was so weakened after granting one wish after another, she couldn't fully grant all of them either."
"No, Keiwa, Ace made us remember." Neon admitted.
"Of course, he would remember," Keiwa sighed. "Can you at least tell me if Tsumuri-san is…"
"Tsumuri-chan is alive," Neon confirmed. "He lives with Ace and Mitsume-san, as Mitsume's eldest daughter."
"That's a relief."
"You've been thinking about that?" Sara questioned.
"I thought, that since I was alive..." Keiwa paused. "That…" He sighed. "Tsumuri-san wasn't able to grant my last wish."
"You were legally dead, up until today," Sara approached her brother and held his free hand. "Why did you do it? Why did you ask for those wishes?"
"To atone." Keiwa admitted. "I wanted to atone for my sins."
"Sins?"
"Atone?"
"Remember what I said to Ace, Neon-chan?" Keiwa asked. "When Sueru-sa – Sueru first established the Desire Royale?"
"It was about making the goddess atone for her sins." Neon recalled.
"Punk Jack-san told me… Told Ace, Michinaga, and Me about the actual fuel for granting the wishes, but I did not believe him."
"That was why you sided with Sueru, didn't you?"
"I betrayed Ace's trust and sided with them," Keiwa nodded. "They promised me things, they promised that they would at least bring my parents and my sister back to life."
"But, I wasn't dead," Sara had to correct her brother's assumption. "A lot of us were stranded at work."
"I did not know it at the time and by the time I knew it, I had already helped Sueru, and the DGP, continue their work."
"And you thought you could redeem yourself with those wishes."
"No, by asking Tsumuri-san to grant my wishes, I know I was no better than Sueru, to atone I know I had to die in Tsumuri-san's place, granting seven wishes took a big toll on her body, not to mention the wishes she had been granting while the DGP was fighting against you."
"That's all in the past," Sara shook her head. "You're here now, that's what matters."
The Kuramas not remembering the DGP was a conscious choice, not only because this was written before the choice of retaining the memories was revealed (which also means how Sara died in canon hasn't been revealed yet) and I think it'd be better if they didn't remember considering they now have both Neon and Akari.
