SuperCoffee 4: Four Muffins and a Suicidal Cupcake

National City, Earth-36 - 2011

It was teetering on the edge of the counter. The pink frosting perfectly whipped into pristine shape. The wrapper decorated with hearts and sparkles. Valentine's Day was finally here. Kara's chin was resting on the counter too, her eyeline poised towards the chocolate filled cake. Her fingers stretched out in front of her, digits reaching the treat, she was almost there. Her reflexes were sharp, her nerves of steel on point. But it all went out the window the minute the bell above the door rang out and the clean, crystalline but distracting voice of her girlfriend echoed through the room. Super hearing or not, she was always able to hear the Lena coming from a mile away. Her fingertips took one last leap for the cupcake but it was misplaced, it was too late, her mind was on other things. Her head whipping round as the cupcake toppled from the counter, pink frosting smudging into the floor.

"Ahh !" Kara cried out, her face screwing up in anguish.

"What's wrong?" Lena asked, Kara just looked at her and pointed to the smashed cupcake on the floor. "It's a tragedy." She continued, dropping her handbag onto the counter and leaning down to kiss Kara's cheek.

"Ah I'm sorry. Hi babe," she said, sitting up on her stool behind the counter and looking up at Lena.

"Hi yourself. Did you wanna get going?" They were supposed to be leaving to go on a date but Kara had been do distracted all afternoon she'd forgotten to clean up the cafe. Alex was off having her own full-day date with Kelly so she wasn't around to help. Lena had been nice and accommodating by letting her work her shift before they went out. But then she just got all daydreamy and sappy about it being Valentine's Day. Her first one with Lena anyways. She'd been staring at that cupcake for at least thirty minutes.

"Oh no I can't. Not yet. I'm so sorry Lena, I forgot to clean up." Kara looked around the shop, "it's a mess. Everywhere is a mess." In all the chaos and Valentine's Day mess (including a 2 for 1 on raspberry heart muffins) Kara had just been too swept off her feet. Despite the shop having closed an hour ago. Lena took a step forward and took Kara's hand.

"Well then, if I help you, we'll be able to get out of here sooner." She suggested, Kara nodded but stifled a yawn as she looked at everything that had to be done. "Oh my poor baby," Lena cooed, in a totally gross, totally completely smitten way that made Kara's insides melt.

"Awe," she replied smiling. Gesturing to Lena with her eyes and making them sparkle.

Lena raised an eyebrow, "what are you looking at me like that?" She asked, a smirk creeping onto her lips as her fingers traced patterns onto the back of Kara's hand. She leaned down and pressed their lips together.

"Hey, can you start by sweeping the floor?" Kara asked the minute their lips broke, apparently kisses made her brain go back to work mode. Lena scoffed and walked towards the kitchen, grabbing the broom from the corner of the room and getting to work.

"Hey no no no no." She said, pointing at Kara, "you can't just sit there after I offered to help."

Kara sighed dramatically, "okay fineeeee." She pulled herself off her stool and grabbed some paper towels to clean the obliterated cupcake from off the floor. Whilst Lena started sweeping the corner of the room. For a while they worked in competitive silence, before Lena reached over to the stereo and turned on boppy nineties music that made Kara cringe but internally love it. The cafe was mainly clean, the sweeping had been done and most of the old cups and dirty spoons had been tidied away. Lena reached across the empty space grabbed Kara's hand. They danced to the music, Lena's hips swaying as they settled into a slower rhythm. Kara's arms went around Lena's neck as time ran away from them.

It was long past the time they were meant to leave to meet their reservation time. Neither of them had realised. As Lena looked at her watch her face fell a little, she tried to hide it but Kara saw it, the twitch in her smile. "Oh baby, I'm sorry. I know you were you really looking forward to getting dinner." Kara said, looking down and pushing her glasses up.

Lena shook her head, "no it's fine. As long as we're together we'll have a great Valentine's Day. I just want to be with you." Kara leaned down and rested on her shoulder, Lena smiled. This was right where she wanted to be.

Kara suddenly shot up, "hey we still have some muffins left over, why don't we take them back to my apartment and stuff our faces. Alex is staying over at Kelly's tonight." She waggled her eyebrows, running over to the counter and putting four chocolate chip muffins into a paper bag. Lena walked over with her and grabbed her handbag.

"Alright, sounds like a plan." Lena said, slipping her coat back on and taking Kara's hand. The blonde locked up the shop and started humming one of the tunes on the radio as they walked down the street. Neither one of them cared that it had started to rain, Lena's hand was warm against Kara's. They headed downtown to Kara and Alex's apartment, stopping to get some takeout on the way there.

"Hey hey, Kelly." Alex said breathlessly, her back against the door of her girlfriend's apartment. Kelly was fumbling around for the keys amongst generous kisses to Alex's lips.

"Ah found it." Kelly cheered in triumph, stuffing the key into the lock and turning. Alex smiled as they pushed inside, shoving all of their stuff onto the couch, neither of them hesitated before clinging to each other once again. Alex kicked the door the shut and pushed Kelly up against it. Her hands went one to the door and the other to Kelly's waist. Her fingers lifting the hem of her shirt as she nipped at Kelly's flesh. "A-Alex?" She whimpered.

Alex pulled away, her brow crinkling, she didn't think she was doing anything wrong. "Am I hurting you?" She asked, Kelly shook her head.

"No, I just um, think we should um talk." Alex retreated, oh no, this was bad news territory. She thought to herself.

"O-okay." She said, wandering backwards and sitting down on the couch. Kelly followed and sat next to her. She turned and held Alex's hands, her face was in that awkward half face of nerves.

"Oh baby it's okay don't worry, this is a good thing." Kelly said, waving her arms around and eventually smiling. She leant forward and squeezed Alex's hands a little tighter. Alex chewed on her bottom lip, "I wanted to say how great today was, and how sweet you are. Everything you did, everywhere we went. It was just perfect. I just love being with you, everything about you except when you doubt yourself. I love you Alex Danvers." Kelly took a deep breath and smiled, waiting for the answer. An answer, any answer would've been great.

Alex took a deep breath, internally she was panicking a little. No girlfriend had said this to her before, but she was relieved, and brightened. Kelly loved her! It took her a full thirty seconds to process before she shook her head to clear the anxious thoughts. She leaned forward and kissed Kelly again, affording her another ten seconds. She pulled back, rubbing her nose against Kelly's and keeping her eyes closed. "I love you too Kelly. And I had a great day with you. I would do anything for you." Then she felt Kelly pulling her back, their kisses deepening, their bodies collapsing back onto the couch.
