The reunion with the rest of the disciples and masters has been a unique moment. It is not usual for a master to go with a student as young as me to the meditation huts on the mountain. Usually, disciples who go to meditate with the masters in remote places are over 13 years old. Although the students and masters know that I am different, they saw me appear out of nowhere when I arrived, and they have never made me feel different; they have always treated me as one of their own.
"Something for which I will always be grateful" - I think as I finish breakfast with the rest of my companions.
I must confess that my mastery of the Tibetan language has grown significantly over the past year. Now, I can engage in a complete conversation without even having to think about it, as if it were the language I have spoken all my life. The disciples have been so insistent in their curiosity about my adventures, to the extent that the masters have agreed to delay the daily training for a couple of hours.
When finally each disciple returns to their master, I realize it's already noon and it will soon be time for lunch. My master approaches where I am sitting, and with a gesture, I follow him through the temple corridors. I notice that we are heading towards one of the inner courtyards of the temple. After several minutes of just hearing our footsteps, we arrive at a small courtyard covered with blue flowers, and we sit on one of the stone benches.
- "Tell me what you have seen, disciple " - the master inquires.
- "I saw the same two people who left me at my aunt and uncle's doorstep. They were talking about me. It seems they tried to search using their powers. From what I understood, they call their powers 'magic,' and they live apart from the rest of the world. This group of people (including my parents and the hooded man who killed them) consider themselves part of a magical world" - I recount while thinking about how ridiculous the idea of my powers being magical sounds in my head.
- "Have they managed to locate you?" - my master asks.
- "No, it seems they use an object called the 'Ravenclaw's feather' and it has certain limitations. As long as I stay away from Europe, I'll be off their radar " - I respond with a sigh of relief.
- "Hmm... We always knew (through your visions and your aunt's words) that there were more people with powers similar to yours, but when we discussed the matter, we believed that if it were true, there would be evidence of how these people would help the world become a better place. It's quite confusing" - my master ponders thoughtfully.
- "This group of people can only use their inner energy. I examined their powers in the vision, and I don't sense that they can connect to the Force, they can't channel their feelings into the Force. Without that connection, they don't feel the 'weight' of the world on them. They don't help people, which would explain why we have never found evidence of them" - I explain my theory to my master.
- "If that's true... to possess a power like yours and not use it to help the world is indeed disheartening" - my master remarks, a hint of disappointment evident in his voice.
- "With great power comes great responsibility" - I murmur softly, the words echoing through the tranquil courtyard.
- "True, well said, disciple. Anything else you've discovered in your visions?" - my master inquires, his gaze locked onto mine, seeking further insights.
- "I've also learned that my aunt and uncle are now in prison for what they did to me" - I share, a mixture of emotions swirling within me as I process the news.
A heavy silence envelops us, accompanied only by the rhythm of our breaths and the melodious songs of the birds outside. The truth is, I find myself torn about whether I truly want to be a part of this so-called 'magical world'; it seems they are solely preoccupied with their own realm, leaving the rest of humanity to fend for themselves. It strikes me as a rather arrogant attitude. As I glance at my master, he appears deep in thought, as if carefully crafting his next question. After a few moments later, my master finally speaks, breaking the silence:
- "Have you considered what your path might be, and whether you'll return to England?"
- "No... I don't believe the Force intends for me to be found at this moment. My training must continue, and yet, a gut feeling tells me that soon I'll have to pursue it elsewhere" - I reply with a touch of uncertainty, trying my best to convey the complexity of my emotions.
- "Hmm... I understand. In that case, we shall continue with your training until the right moment arrives for you to depart. Rest assured, we'll provide all the assistance we can, as you already know. On another note, Master Zhein has been unwell for a week now. Perhaps... could you attempt to aid him?" - my master suggests, his concern evident in his voice as he seeks my help.
- "Of course, I'll do everything in my power to help him" - I respond eagerly, rising to my feet as we make our way towards Master Zhein's quarters.
Healing Master Zhein hasn't been an easy task; he suffered from a severe infection that had spread throughout his body, reaching his internal organs. Had we arrived even a week later, it might have been impossible for my powers to restore him to health.
I must confess, Force healing has proven to be one of the most demanding abilities I've ever employed. It goes beyond simply connecting with the Force and uttering the word "Heal." Instead, I must consciously guide my power through each cell of the afflicted body, one by one. Enveloping the infected cell with my energy, I painstakingly 'cleanse' it, and then the Force takes over the healing process. This intricate procedure necessitates repeating thousands of times, making it a true test of patience and focus.
Despite dedicating eight hours of daily healing, it still took me five full days to sufficiently heal him, allowing the medicines crafted by the temple masters to take effect. Reflecting on this, I am convinced that delving into the study of biology and medicine could grant me insights to discern which cells require my intervention and which can naturally recover with the aid of medicine. Such knowledge would undoubtedly enhance my healing abilities and better serve those in need.
Despite my attempts at meditation, the Force has been reticent in unveiling my next destination. However, one thing I can say with certainty is that it won't lead me back to England. For now, I won't dwell on it and shall relish the tranquil life within the temple. This additional time affords me the opportunity to hone my healing powers by tending to injured animals in the forest or aiding nearby villagers with their wounds. Embracing this purposeful journey, I will continue to follow the path laid out before me, knowing that the Force will guide me to where I am needed most.
I'm uncertain about how it all began, but somehow word has spread about a "healer" in the villages surrounding the temple. People from all walks of life now seek my aid with their injuries, and a significant number among them are impoverished, unable to afford the services of a doctor. Others arrive with ailments or wounds that have proven resistant to conventional medical treatments. The sense of responsibility and purpose this role imparts is both humbling and rewarding, as I endeavor to alleviate their suffering and offer hope where there was none.
Las week, a woman sought my help, her body afflicted by a high fever and covered in red spots. I devoted hours to channeling my healing power into her, but paradoxically, the more cells I mended, the more her condition seemed to worsen—it was an arduous battle. Sadly, barely six hours later, she succumbed to her illness, and in that profound moment, I sensed her energy, her 'soul' intertwine with the very essence of the Force, as if her spirit had united with the entirety of the cosmos. Witnessing the transience of life and the interconnectedness of all living beings left me with a sense of both awe and fragility.
Tears streamed down my cheeks for the first time in years. Knowing someone has passed away is one thing, but to feel the life ebb away from their body despite my earnest efforts was an experience that weighed heavily on my soul. I sought refuge in solitude, secluding myself in my quarters without stepping outside. When my master arrived with dinner, he embraced me tightly, understanding the depths of my emotions. With a gentle touch, he left me alone in the room, imparting one of his profound pieces of wisdom:
- "All things must die, my disciple. Even stars eventually fade away"
Being connected to the Force grants extraordinary clarity and senses, but in the case of death, it also makes you feel life leaving the body and merging with the living Force. However, I believe I have come to understand that death is just another part of life. A part that we all have to experience sooner or later. All I can do is heal those who are injured to delay that moment as much as possible.
I have been engrossed in scrolls and medical books compiled by the temple masters and nearby villagers to aid me in my healing endeavors. While the number of people seeking my help isn't vast, an average of 10 to 15 individuals visit each week. As their visits lack a specific pattern, the masters have devised a dedicated schedule for me. Mornings are reserved for serene meditation and a hearty breakfast, followed by attending to patients based on the severity of their conditions. If there are no immediate cases, I take the opportunity to further my knowledge in medicine and biology. Come 6 in the evening, provided my presence isn't urgently required, I take respite, spending time with my fellow disciples. Just yesterday, we enjoyed frolicking and swimming in a nearby lake until the sun dipped below the horizon.
As I initially surmised, deepening my understanding of Force healing proves immensely beneficial. This heightened knowledge aids me in identifying symptoms and ailments more effortlessly, allowing me to focus on the most crucial areas that require healing. For instance, in cases of infection, I can prioritize curing the source first before tending to the rest of the body.
Healing has opened up a remarkable path for me. I've discovered that through the Force, I can "alter" a patient's body to a certain extent. I can slow their breathing, boost white blood cell production, and even induce a sort of "healing trance" in patients while attending to them. This is especially vital for young individuals or those with severe injuries, as the possibility of a "healing trance" can decelerate the spread of viruses or infections through the body, providing pain relief during their trance state.
However, amid the tranquil ambiance of the temple, I'm abruptly interrupted by voices and cries of pain. I rise from my study desk and come face to face with one of the temple masters, carrying a woman with a bleeding abdomen in his arms.
- "What happened?" - I ask as I assist the master in gently laying the woman on an improvised bed of cushions.
- "She was shot in the abdomen with a firearm. A bandit attempted to rob her on the way to the city of Monpa. They brought her here in a cart; it's been close to an hour since the gunshot" - the master responds while helping me tear the woman's tunic to clean the wound with clean water.
- "An hour?" - I inquire, astonished, to which the master nods solemnly.
- "There's no time to waste, then" - I declare, closing my eyes and settling into a comfortable position to channel my powers.
Placing my left hand on her forehead, I focus on inducing a healing trance. One, two... before I know it, I've connected with the Force, and moments later, the woman ceases to move and cry out in pain. The trance has taken effect and will last for several hours. Just to be sure, I decide to keep my left hand gently resting on her forehead to monitor her state.
The first task at hand is to remove the bullet from her body without causing further harm. Extending my right hand, I lightly touch the woman's wound with my palm. Concentrating, I employ the Force to visualize her abdomen, confirming that the bullet has not damaged her digestive system and fortunately rests in a relatively non-threatening area.
Feeling my hand tense, I gradually use my telekinesis to extract the bullet. I manipulate some of the woman's muscles to provide better access for the bullet's removal, and I even shift her kidney slightly to prevent it from brushing against the bullet. I can sense the bullet grazes the palm of my hand, and carefully, I move my hand a few centimeters away to facilitate its extraction.
"There it is!" - I think, opening my eyes to see the bullet in my right hand.
- "I've removed the bullet; now I'll commence the healing process for the affected area" - I inform the master as he takes the bullet from my hand and returns to position his hand over the woman's wound.
"It's already the New Year" - I muse as I enter my quarters and lie down on the bed.
It's February 19th in Tibet, and today marks the beginning of the festivities. So much has transpired in these past few months. After successfully healing the woman injured by the bullet, the temple masters decided to establish a makeshift "medical clinic" within the temple grounds. Anyone, regardless of their financial means, can now seek help and medical assistance. Many of my fellow disciples pitch in to support the clinic, tending to tasks such as changing bedsheets, feeding the patients, and more. Some of the elder disciples have taken an interest in learning medicine, utilizing the books and information at my disposal.
- "It's more beneficial to teach someone how to sow, than to feed the hungry" my master often says.
Currently, there are seven disciples, besides myself, working as "healers" in the temple. Although none of them possess special powers, I am immensely grateful for their presence, as there are few cases they cannot resolve on their own. Last month, there was only one patient with acute bronchitis that required my direct intervention. While I continue to heal as many people as I can to enhance my powers, I find solace in knowing that I am not alone in this endeavor.
"This will make it easier for me to leave when the time comes to continue my training" - I think to myself as I gradually close my eyes, finding rest after a long day of festivities.
"It's time to go" - I think to myself as I open my eyes, concluding my morning meditation.
In recent days, I've been feeling the urge to leave the temple and continue my training elsewhere. At first, I thought it might be my own restlessness, but during my meditation, I came to understand that it is the Force itself propelling me to move forward. Though I could stay in the temple and ignore the Force's call, I know deep down that it wouldn't be the right decision.
I enter the medical clinic and find only two patients, a pair of siblings suffering from an allergy to a local plant. They are already being treated with a Tibetan medicine prepared by the temple masters. After exchanging morning greetings with the fellow disciples in the room, I decide it's time to find my master. Exiting the room, I sit on a nearby bench and close my eyes, focusing my senses on my master's life force.
"He seems to be meditating in his chamber" - I think as I make my way to his quarters.
Before I know it, I'm standing in front of my master's door, and he grants me entry. As I step inside, I notice candles burning, and the scent of jasmine fills the air.
- "Apologies for interrupting your meditation, Master" - I say, closing the door behind me.
- "No need to worry about that, disciple" my master responds, dismissing any concern.
- "I've been feeling it for several days now, but... I believe the time has come for me to continue my journey" - I explain to my master.
- "I see... We knew this day would arrive. It's best we help you prepare for your travels then. Do you know where you're heading?" he inquires.
- "No... but I've been dreaming of swords for days now. Moreover, I'm certain it's not in Europe" - I reply as we leave his chamber and head to mine.
- "In that case, you should wear your finest robes. I'll assist you in getting everything ready" - my master responds as we step into my quarters.
As I realize how swiftly things progress, we've already prepared my robes and packed my personal belongings—just a few candles and some medicine books I haven't finished reading. At lunchtime, the other disciples greet me as usual, but upon seeing me dressed in my finest robes, they sense that I'm destined for somewhere else. A few minutes later, while we enjoy our last meal together for a long time in the temple, I fill them in on my decision. After many heartfelt embraces, we bid farewell.
Only my master accompanies me to the inner meditation gardens. The time of day ensures there will be no one there, allowing me to use my powers for teleportation. I can't deny that I'm somewhat nervous; it's only my second time attempting this power. The first time, it was an unconscious act, escaping from my aunt and uncle's house.
- "Remember, no matter what happens, we will always be your family, and you will have a home here if you wish to return" - my master says, his eyes filled with sorrow as he gives me a tight hug.
- "You've been the family I never had, and no matter what, I'll remember you all, and I'm certain I will come back to see you" - I reply, my voice choked with emotion as tears stream down my cheeks.
- "It's time now... don't postpone it any longer. The longer you wait, the harder it'll be" - my master responds, taking a step back, his eyes filled with a mix of sadness and understanding.
I nod in response to my master's words. Words are no longer necessary; we understand each other without them. Slowly, I close my eyes and focus on my meditation, extending my powers to connect with the living Force of the world. After releasing my emotions, calm washes over me, and a single thought fills my mind: "Forward."
In an instant, the world becomes a whirlwind, and I feel every particle of my being moving at incredible speed. Thoughts race through my mind, but before I can grasp them, I come to an abrupt halt. Opening my eyes, I take in my new surroundings, and it's evident that I am no longer in the temple.
