Two weeks ago….
Aizawa gathered the RWBY girls to come into his office. In a single file line — Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang stood in front of his desk. While sticking another nicotine patch in his arm, he informed the girls that their UA school uniforms had arrived.
Biting an apple, the Eraser Hero said, "Good morning, girls. Your UA uniforms have been delivered. You can find them in your dorms."
Ruby gleefully held her cheeks together when being notified about this. "Oh, that's awesome! I can't wait to see them!"
Weiss concurred with her best friend and teammate. "Finally, we'll be official UA students."
"Yeah, it feels like we're really a part of this now," replied Yang, trying her best to contain the grin on her face.
Blake nodded silently, bowing to Aizawa-sensei. "I'm looking forward to wearing the uniform."
The Eraser hero made loud audible noises as he smacked his apple. "The uniform is more than just an outfit; it represents your commitment to becoming heroes. Wear it with pride." He waved his hands. "That will be all. You're dismissed."
Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang head back to their dorms, eager to see their new uniforms. When arriving at their dorm rooms, they find the packages neatly placed on their beds, and excitement fills the air as they open them up.
Ruby holds her uniform pridefully. "It's so cool! I love it!"
The Snow Queen carefully examined the uniform that was going to hers for the duration of their homestay. "Indeed, it's quite a sight."
Blake nodded once again, pride filling within her veins. "Our journey as UA students has just begun."
Yang agreed, gripping her fists as she was brimming with excitement. "And we're going to make the most of it!"
"Certainly, sis," responded Ruby. "Hey, let's hurry up and get these on."
"Yeah…let's," said Yang. "Plus, don't we have Art History with Kayama-sensei?"
"In a few minutes actually," responded Blake. "Let's hurry up and get dressed for class."
As they headed to their classes, they felt a sense of pride and camaraderie with their fellow students, knowing that they were part of something bigger than themselves. Now officially UA students, they felt their UA uniforms symbolized their dedication to becoming heroes and serving the greater good.
A few minutes later….
Katsuki waited around the corner until he heard the Beacon girls depart for class — the very class he should be attending. However, being the mischievous teen as he was, couldn't resist the opportunity for a little prank.
Unknowingly thanks to Hatsume, he was able to clone the key fob to get access in Ruby Rose's dorm. Still a bit upset about what Yang did to him, he decided to take it out on her sister instead. He knew there was one particular item she was fond of — her cloak!
"Let's see how the shitty extras feel after I take away Ruby's precious security blanket." The blond sported a shit-eating grin as he prepared for the misdeeds that followed.
Quietly and swiftly, he entered her dorm, making sure not to attract any attention. He spotted Ruby's cloak hanging on a hook and carefully removed it, trying not to make a sound.
"This is going to be hilarious," he said as he grinned. Out of natural curiosity, he took a whiff of her cloak. "Hmm…fresh! Somebody laundries with passion fruit detergent. As if I know what detergent smells like."
Stuffing the cloak in his backpack, he hurried out of Ruby's dorm. He rushed back to his dorm and hid it in a plastic container under his bed. He needed to produce an alibi on why he was late for Kayama-sensei's class. Be that as it may, the thought of toying with Ruby was interesting and lots and lots of fun.
Later that day….
Ruby finished her classes for the day and returned to her dorm, ready to take a break and relax. As she entered her room and spotted the missing cloak, confusion crossed her face.
She arched an eyebrow as she looked at where she last saw her cloak. "That is odd." She became baffled. "Where is my cloak?"
She started looking around the room, trying to figure out where it might be. Unable to find it, she began to wonder if she misplaced it or if someone else moved it.
While she was searching, unbeknownst to her, Katsuki was watching from afar, thoroughly entertained by her reaction. "This is better than I expected. I should have filmed this or at least grabbed some popcorn, tee-hee!" "That's what you get, you shitty otaku. Bet you won't let your sister meddle with me ever again."
However, before he could watch the prank unfold further, Shinsou from the General Studies course approached him, curious about what he's up to.
"'Sup, Bakugo baby." She said as she sucked on her sour apple sucker. "What are you doing here?"
Bakugo cursed under his breath. "Pay for the business that you mind, Shinsou. You would think after the many boys you play with that you should know the difference."
"I would say kiss my ass but there aren't any disinfectants in the world to erase that," she retorted. "Not even a lobotomy could erase that memory."
"Tch! Whatever," he responded back to her.
Hitoshi was unfazed, deciding not to further bother the pest. "Well, have fun 'hanging out,' then."
"Whatever. Just go away. Don't want any of your cooties on me."
Hitoshi left Katsuki, who continued to watch Ruby's reaction from a distance. After a while, Ruby realized that her cloak was nowhere to be found and decided to ask her friends if they knew anything about it.
"Hey, guys." Ruby called out to her teammates. "Have you seen my cloak anywhere?"
"Well…that's my cue." Katsuki rushed out of sight and headed toward the common area.
Later that evening….
Katsuki rushed back to his dorm to prove to his classmates that he had Ruby's cloak. As he ran down the hallway, fate threw him an unexpected curveball. As he walked through the corridors, deep in thought about how to show his mischievousness, he accidentally bumped into Aizawa, who was holding a cup of coffee.
Aizawa-sensei was annoyed to see it was Katsuki. "Watch where you're going, Katsuki."
Katsuki immediately bowed, nervously of course. "Uh, sorry, Aizawa-sensei!"
In the jostle, Aizawa's coffee spilled, and some of it ended up on Ruby's cloak that Katsuki had tucked under his arm.
"Great, now my coffee's spilled all over your cloak." Aizawa-sensei responded irritably.
"Uh, it's not mine, it's... um…" Katsuki panicked.
The Eraser hero arched an eyebrow. "Whose is it, then?"
Katsuki knew that returning the cloak now would only get him into more trouble. He quickly thought of a way to handle the situation.
"It's, uh, a friend's. They lent it to me, but now I have to go return it. Sorry about your coffee."
Aizawa-sensei, unimpressed by Katsuki's sincerity or lack thereof, walked past him. "See that it doesn't happen again. Now go clean this mess up."
Katsuki nodded quickly and rushed off, trying to come up with a plan to salvage the situation. He knew he couldn't return the damaged cloak, at least not in its current state.
Back to the present….
Minoru thanked the cashier who gave him keys for a space at the manga cafe. The grapehead dwarf had enough store credit to rent a room for a couple of nights. It was a blessing that the cafe was in a seedy part of town — a place he would doubt someone like Yang Xiao Long would pursue recreationally.
"Yuck! That better be dried yogurt." Katsuki said when Minoru stepped inside the tiny cubicle. Surprisingly, the inside didn't reflect that derelict building.
The rooms were meticulously designed to reflect different manga universes, each with its own distinct theme. Whether one was staying in a futuristic sci-fi room inspired by mecha manga, a tranquil and zen-like space inspired by slice-of-life manga, or a magical room evoking the worlds of fantasy manga, each one offers a unique experience.
The rooms were equipped with state-of-the-art amenities, including comfortable beds adorned with manga-themed bedding, high-speed internet, and large flat-screen TVs where one can binge-watch their favorite anime series. A selection of manga volumes was thoughtfully placed on shelves within arm's reach, allowing one to dive into captivating stories before one would drift off to sleep.
"Don't be an ingrate." Minoru responded as he gave him a keycard. "If anything, you should be thanking me that I am providing you shelter. Knowing Yang, she is probably on your way to your parents."
"Whatever! The old hag has dealt with worse." The blond smiled, knowing if the cops didn't get to Yang, then it would be his mother dearest that would.
"I got enough funds to hold us down for a few days," responded Minoru as he was eyeing the Aki Sora manga. "At least we can be comfortable."
"Comfortable? This is hell for me, baka. I am in a haven of furries and otakus in the middle of Tokyo," responded Katsuki.
"Hey, this is my haven. My neck of the woods," responded Minoru pridefully. "We've bought some time. At least you're not running from little old Yang."
"Who said I was running?" Katsuki clicked his tongue in disgust. "Bitches run to me. I don't run to bitches."
"So…" Minoru rolled his eyes. "At least we got amenities to relax for the time being."
"I'm in the land of otakus, you ass. What can I do that can fulfill my day?"
"C'mon…we can play Dungeons & Dragons, reenact Silence of the Lambs." Minoru lowered his gaze to the floor. "...whack off!"
Katsuki arched his eyebrow. "Repeat the last one."
"Silence of the Lambs?" Minoru replied nervously.
"Right~!" Katsuki blew a raspberry. Knowing the irony that was upon him, he snatched the Aki Sora manga from Minoru and sat back on the bed to read.
"So~!" Minoru fumbled his thumbs. "You stole Ruby's cloak, spilled coffee on it. That doesn't seem a valid excuse for why Yang wants to turn you into raw meat."
"Agreed," responded the spiky-haired blond. "At first I just thought it was a security blanket because the girl pees her pants. However, it was more sentimental than I thought."
Two weeks ago…later that night….
Guilt clotted the spiky-haired blond's veins…somehow. He may not like the shitty otaku and her shittier sister, he just got off probation and he couldn't afford another demerit or another talk with his mother. Thankfully, his father had connections with a tailor shop and he went to town to purchase her a new cloak.
When Katsuki returned to the dorms, he found an opportunity to discreetly leave the new cloak outside Ruby's room with a note, apologizing for the accident and explaining what happened.
"She's gonna kill me when she finds out what happened to the original cloak. Nah, she'll be alright. Call it a new conquest."
A few minutes later, Ruby and her friends returned home from dinner when she saw what was left on her doorstep.
"Your cloak got messed up and coffee got spilled. My bad. Gotcha a new one.
No thanks are necessary.
Katsuki!"
As Ruby discovered the damaged cloak and read Katsuki's note, her initial upset turned into frustration and determination to confront him about the mishap. She couldn't believe that her precious cloak, a gift from her late mother, had been ruined. Fuelled by emotions, Ruby decided to go after Katsuki to get some answers.
Ruby ran down the hall when she saw Katsuki going toward the common area.
"Katsuki, wait!" Ruby told him.
Katsuki, who had been trying to avoid confrontation, heard Ruby's voice and knew he couldn't escape the situation. He picked up the pace, attempting to outrun her, but Ruby, using her Semblance, quickly closed the distance between them.
"Speed, activate!" Ruby said as she activated her semblance.
Ruby's silver eyes glowed with power as she tapped into her Semblance, allowing her to move at incredible speeds. In a blur, she caught up to Katsuki, making him stop in his tracks.
…!
Katsuki was surprised by her quickness to him. "What the…!"
"Katsuki, why did you hide the damaged cloak from me? And what happened to it?"
"Does it matter? I got you a new one."
"It shouldn't have to be a new one. Why did you take it in the first place?"
Katsuki clicked his tongue. "Does it matter? It happened. Stuff happened. You got a new one. What of it?"
"What of it?!" Ruby burst into anger. "It's my mom's cloak, Katsuki! It's irreplaceable!"
"My bad. Tell her to make you a new one."
Ruby stomped her feet. "My mother is dead, you pompous asshole!"
Katsuki looked away, unaware of this newfound information. "Oh, sorry! Well, you got a new one that looks like it, okay?"
"Do you even care what I just said?" She gripped her fist angrily. "That was my mother's cloak. A cloak that was delivered to me to keep her legacy alive. Do you not even understand?"
His pride took precedence. "I got you a new one, alright? Cloaks like other things come and go. People's mama's die everyday, Ruby. It's called life, get over it."
Ruby reached over and slapped Katsuki in his face. "Get over it?! Get over it?!" She shouted. "Okay. Is that how you feel? Okay, let's see what my sister has to say about that."
She activated her semblance and darted off, leaving Katsuki in the dust.
Back to the present….
Minoru grabbed a tissue as he wanted to wipe his eyes from that story. It was one thing about having a personal item, but a personal item that once belonged to a loved one that was no longer living was another.
"Dude! Do you actually not think there is a hell?"
"C'mon, I said sorry!"
"Half-assedly, dude. No wonder Yang is after you. You did something that is the lowest of the low."
"What's the big deal, man. It was a cloak. It wasn't like I was the one that killed her mom."
"With that attitude, you might as well." Minoru stood up. "Dude, as someone who tries my hardest to impress chicks, you got to do something to redeem yourself."
"Like what?"
"Apologize, sincerely of course. And, give her own cloak. It was a coffee stain, so it could be washed." Minoru reached into his pocket to grab his phone. "I know a guy who owns a laundromat nearby that could assist with cleaning. Tell me where the cloak is and I can get it taken care of." He dialed the number. "Where is the cloak?"
"Somewhere at the city dump?" Katsuki replied nervously.
Minoru's eyes widened by the response. The timing itself didn't help when he heard a familiar voice going down the hallway.
"That lady said the boy who smelled like fermented rubberband was nearby. I saw him with that bastard, so he probably has the answers."
"What if he doesn't, sis?"
"Have you seen the blood on my knuckles after knocking down Roman or Junior? He will comply."
Minoru swallowed the lump in his throat when realizing their temporary oasis was slowly coming to a close.
To be continued….
