The first few years of Percy's life were a struggle for the son of Poseidon, not being able to talk or move properly. Percy's dad and mom spent another week in Greece before heading back to London, then introducing him to his grandfather Jack and Jack's brother Gellert.
Gellert made an effort to not speak with Percy or Poseidon much, having a look of disgust on his face when doing so, something about a 'Blood-Traitor' and being a 'Wretched Half-Breed'. Grandpa Jack, as he told Percy to call him, also treated the pair strangely, but not as lesser creatures, but as if they were a marvel to the graying man.
Once he had reached an age he could begin to speak and learn, Percy was taught about the Wizarding World and how his existence wasn't exactly accepted by everyone, him being the son of a Witch and a Water Nymph. At first when he learned this, he had assumed that his father maybe wasn't the god Poseidon, but the talks the father son pair would later have about Demigods and the dangers Percy could be in proved otherwise.
Percy lived in what his mother's family called 'Muggle London', being told that it was due to his nature as a magical Half-Breed, unfortunately Percy had the same troubles with staying in one school here as he did before Gaea cursed him… maybe worse. It seemed as if he grew powerful much quicker than before, maybe it was due to Poseidon himself teaching him how to fend for himself, maybe his Wizarding nature.
Percy's 8th Birthday was his first true introduction to the Wizarding World, being taken to a zoo of fantastical creatures by his Grandpa Jack, who for some reason gave his and Percy's last name as "Daniels" if and when ever asked.
"Perseus, you know, Wizarding society has never been a big fan of fantastical creatures… they've always been afraid of them and what they could do" Jack says, admiring a strange pufferfish with legs, who Percy struggled to ignore.
"Why would they be afraid, Grandpa Jack? With just a wave of a stick and Kaboosh! Fried fish for days" Percy says with a grin, but then shakes his head at the idea of fried fish "But I'd prefer not to fry the fish. Fish are friends, not food"
"It's not that simple Perseus, I wish that me and other Wizards could be as carefree as you are when it comes to the ideas of magic" Jack shakes his head as he moves on to the next exhibit, a small dragon chained up in an enclosure resembling a small forest with some hills and a large wall of rock.
"Do you see the Hungarian Horntail Perseus? Even as an infant, it could fry a powerful wizard like my brother in an instant" Jack says, admiring the sheen of its scales. "A wand is so easily taken away, these creatures don't need such a crutch to be stronger than us. Do you understand Perseus? We may have tools, but if me and that dragon were to both stumble into each other, I'd be its next meal without question" After Jack said that, the two continued on, the rest of the day was rather quiet.
After the day at the zoo of fantastical creatures, Percy remained to not have much interaction with the Wizarding World, and spent most of his time with either his dad or his mother, his uncle Gellert still avoiding him like the plague.
Not long before Percy's birthday, Gellert was found dead, killed by a man who called himself 'Voldemort'. Gellert had never really talked to Percy, and he had certainly never left him any gifts, which is why it was so strange to receive a parcel from the now dead man on his birthday.
Percy's 9th birthday wasn't a very festive day, only a week before a funeral to commemorate the man, it was mostly the young child of the sea receiving a few gifts and cake. The gifts were normal gifts for a wizarding child, mostly different candies and trick items, but Gellert's gift was strange, something he received via owl when he was alone.
In the parcel there were several journals, each bearing the Grindelwald crest on the cover, two unique names below the triangular symbol, most only being unique because of the roman numerals following. "What is this?" Percy asked aloud as he opened the first page, taking his time to try and read what they were saying. The first page seemed almost printed, which Percy thought was weird based on the age of the book. "Why would he give me something? The last time he looked at me, he taught me some new insults" Percy chuckles at the memory, mostly his original confusion at the wizard insults, as he begins to read Percy realizes that the words are slowly changing to Ancient Greek before his eyes.
This is the first Journal of my lineage, written by 'Gil'.
If you are reading this, the charm worked, which is good. I wrote this in my own language, and I expect all of my descendents to embrace themselves in the same way. Use this journal to provide insight to later generations and to give some perspective of your life. This journal and any after it are to be passed down to the next Patriarch of the family, the daughters of this line have their own gift. These journals are not for the eyes or ears of others.
G., Wizard
"Why would Gellert give me wizard journals? I appreciate the gift, but why?" Percy asks, beginning to read through the journals, eventually calling it a night as he gets a small part of the way through the first journal. Maybe Gellert turned a new leaf before dying, Gellert had been out of the house for a month at the time.
Not much happened after Percy's birthday, mostly him spending time with his dad, learning about demigods from the source himself, trying to pass the time until Gellert's funeral. The funeral itself was small, the only ones really in attendance were Percy's family, the wizard officiating the ceremony, and this strange man who his mom and Grandpa Jack seemed to know well.
"Hello there Perseus Grindelwald." Percy turned around, reaching into his pocket as if he was grabbing riptide, never having lost the habit. The man who just spoke was wearing dark robes, a mournful expression on his face but a twinkle in his eyes, this was the only other guest at the funeral. "I hope you aren't to throw sand in my eye young Perseus" He says with chuckle.
"Who are you? Why are you here?" Percy asked the man, taking his hands from his pockets, but still wary and making sure his family was still in sight, as wary as he was, Percy couldn't help but grin at the man's statement.
"My name is Albus Dumbledore, and I was… close with Gellert, he told me about you, the next Patriarch of the Grindelwald family, no matter how he felt." The man reached into the pockets of his robes, bringing out a silver ring designed to be a curled up dragon, and a matching amulet.
"Gellert gave me this amulet as a gift one day, and kept the ring for himself, but soon before his untimely demise, he gave the ring to me... when it was discovered that he died, I had felt the need to give this to you. Maybe one day you'll find someone you connect with to give the amulet. Shall we meet again at Hogwarts young Perseus." Dumbledore gives a smile before disappearing with a crack, not giving Percy a chance to speak.
Percy's mom walked over to him. "What did Dumbledore have to talk to you about?" She asked, looking at the items in his hand "Those look nice, what did he give you those for?"
"Well, apparently Uncle Gellert had given Dumbledore this amulet, and before he died he gave him the ring, so Dumbledore thought I should have it." He informs his mom, putting the ring on his right-handed index finger and watching it shrink as he pockets the amulet.
"Well, me and Grandpa Jack have something to tell you, so let's head home." Percy's mom says as she puts a hand on his shoulder and the two disappear with a crack. Everything seems to fold in on itself and Percy and his mom reappear in their kitchen with Grandpa Jack and Percy's dad just sitting there, the man having chosen to not attend Gellert's funeral.
"Well Perseus, we've been keeping something from you the past few years." Grandpa Jack begins, taking a sip of his tea. "You being Half-Nymph is only a small part of why we live in Muggle England, the other part is… complicated-"
"Gellert is a Wizard-Nazi." Poseidon cut in, not wanting to hide much from his son, but getting a harsh look from Jack as he said so. "He was… doing some not so great things not too long ago, and the Grindelwald family hasn't been exactly welcome to Wizard Society as a result." Percy's mom finished, leaving Percy stunned.
"Then why did we keep him with us? Couldn't that have gotten us in more trouble?" Percy asks, as Grandpa Jack slams his tea cup down "I know you and Gellert didn't have the best of relations, but that doesn't constitute just abandoning your family to save your hide Perseus." Percy was even more stunned at that, Grandpa Jack usually didn't have outbursts like that, it was weird to Percy. "Let's call it a night here." Percy's mom said, cleaning the tea off of her table with a simple spell.
Percy and Grandpa Jack's relationship was a little strained from that point, but he was just as ecstatic as the rest of the family when Percy finally received a letter on his eleventh birthday, and he was certainly the most pissed when it came from The Ministry instead of Hogwarts.
"Why would they send me a letter?" Percy asked his family, the four having camped out in their living room waiting for Percy's letter. "Maybe it's something to do with me…" Poseidon suggested, Percy being a Half-Nymph was certainly rare if not completely unique to him, so it could warrant a letter from the ministry.
"It's best to just open it, do you want me to read it for you Perseus?" Grandpa Jack asked, holding his hand out, knowing the Half-Nymph to be dyslexic, and trying to make it easier for the boy. "Sure Grandpa Jack," Percy says, opening the letter and handing the piece of parchment contained to his Grandfather. Grandpa Jack looked at the parchment, cleared his throat and began to speak.
"Dear Perseus Grindelwald, we hope this letter finds you in good health, under normal circumstances this would be following a letter from Hogwarts, offering an olive branch of sorts due to the controversial topic of Gellert Grindelwald, but it has been discovered that you are of unprecedented nature, a Half-Breed nymph. Therefore we must deny you entry to Hogwarts this year as we are unsure of the nature of your elusive people. The ministry could be persuaded to allow you to attend in the following years if you can prove the cooperativeness of the nymphs, as well as proper magical aptitude for a second year Hogwarts student." Grandpa Jack finished reading, a tight grip on the parchment nearly ripping it in half.
Poseidon is the first to react fully, jumping up to his feet as a powerful trident materializing in his watery hand. "They dare deny him for that! I should just flood them with my very waters!" Poseidon says, but Percy's mom puts a hand on his shoulder, calming the God-Nymph.
"I don't think the Aegean sea would reach here my love, it's a miracle you even have enough strength to carry yourself here." Evelyn says, bringing the man to sit down. "It's truly horrible that they are so greedy to demand something from you in order to receive a magical education"
"I will call… my cousin to see if she can provide any help. They aren't exactly Nymphs in the way that you would think, but she is much more familiar with mor- human magic than I am." Poseidon says, walking away.
"Well Percy, it's best you get some rest, we have to send your father off later today so why don't you rest up some?" Percy's mom says, patting him on the shoulder, and he obeys.
In Percy's room are the three Greeks he wished to see the least, The Fates. "Perseus Grindelwald, once Perseus Jackson, you have been free from the Greek world for far too long." The three trio speak in unison, staring at Percy as they knit a sweater with the Grindelwald crest on its collar. "You were lucky and unlucky, born into this family hallowed by death, did you know the story your family and their crest is from? Many call it 'The Deathly Hallows'." the first of the three, Clotho, spoke.
"Why is that important? What are you doing here?" Percy asks, pinching his arm, but alas, it's real. "I'm not a demigod anymore."
"That may be true, but you are still Perseus, Hero of The Prophecy… monsters will still gravitate to you, even more so than before. They haven't until now from our grace, a gift to the hero." The middle sister, Lachesis said, pausing as Atropos began where Lachesis left off, not giving Percy a chance to speak. "Fret not, there is no prophecy we are issuing, only an explanation, you are right in that you are no longer a Demigod, which will save you from the prophecies of future days, but you are still the mortal son of Poseidon, a hero who will endure many quests." She finishes, snipping the last loose thread of the sweater.
"Our second and final gift to you Perseus, not many are so fortunate" The three sisters speak in unison before vanishing as if they were never there, leaving only the sweater behind.
Percy's father walked into his room next, a familiar but not entirely recognizable goddess in tow. "Percy, I have to leave soon, but I can help you with the quest that stupid mortal Ministry has issued you, or well, she can help you.
"Hello Perseus, I am Hecate, goddess of magic. I have a simple quest in return for two things, tutelage under the goddess of magic herself, and a gift to appease the mortals" The Titaness grins at Percy as a large stick covered in runes appears in her hand. "The Stave of Merlin."
"What's the quest?" Percy asks, hoping simple really means simple, but knowing it would be far from it.
"I don't know how, but one of your Grindelwald ancestors stole a powerful artifact from me, a crown that allowed the wearer complete dominance over magic. He hid it in the mountain, where I could see it perfectly, but not take back what is mine in fear of the Ancient Laws. You are to retrieve it and call my name, but do not wear the crown, no matter how it tempts you."
AN: Didn't do one last time, felt like I needed one here. This is my first time writing a fanfic like this so criticism would be appreciated. Some of the Harry Potter lore might come undone and then be altered, just like in the case of the Deathly Hallows.
The quest won't take too long, but I am curious,
Should Percy find a magical creature to be his pet (If so what should it be?)
This Question doesn't matter to the quest but:
Should Percy become an animagus?
