"We're in the Coast Guard!" Alan shouted with sheer glee embracing his equally ecstatic best friend as their confused colleagues stared at the little celebration from the halls.

"I have to tell Shirley!" Alan bolted from the room and ran down the hall. A rapid knock came to her door.

"Come in" The Senior Partner barely got it out when Alan burst in.

"Baby, I'm in the Coast Guard!"

"Wha-What?" Was all she could say before her husband embraced her, completely ignoring an equally stunned Carl.

"C-Congratulations, sweetheart." She returned his hug, still trying to wrap her brain around the situation. "Alan's in the Coast Guard." Shirley blinked.

"And Denny too!" Alan explained, kissing her forehead roughly. Shirley's eyes bugged out, turning to the gentlemen sitting on the other side of her desk.

Carl's stomach dropped. "Gee. Don't we all feel safer." He looked like he was going to be sick.

Shirley bit back a laugh burying her face in Alan's shoulder. She was proud of them, but they weren't exactly Stallone and Schwarzenegger.

Then the uniforms came

Denny and Alan paraded around the office all day in their pristine white Coast Guard uniforms, including in court. Unfortunately, Alan never got to show it off to Shirley. Unbeknownst to him, she'd sneak a glance now and then from afar.

End of the Day

"A perfect end to a perfect day, eh, solider?" Denny proclaimed, puffing out another ring of smoke into the night air. Alan sat in silence for a moment.

"Not quite." The younger man stated, placing his cigar on his glass and heading inside.

Shirley was packing up when she spotted someone in her doorway.

"Well, hello, Sailor." She smirked, seeing her husband still dawning his uniform.

He grinned with a glint in his eye. Shirley leaned against her desk, still admiring his new look. He certainly looked good. He pushed himself off the doorframe and approached her. Before she could react, Alan dramatically tossed his hat to his friend, who took his place in the doorway and dipped Shirley into a deep kiss. Denny just laughed with a cigar poking out of his mouth.

Alan finally broke the kiss. "I've been dying to do that all day."

"I bet you have." Shirley laughed.

"Wait for me?" Alan stated with feigned longing.

"I'll tie a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree. Just promise me you'll write." Shirley dryly replied.

He chuckled, brushing his nose against hers. "You know, I was taught how to tie five knots; care to make it six when we get home?" He purred with a wicked grin. Shirley opened her mouth to respond with a witty retort and got swallowed up with another kiss.
