Takes place during Series 10.
Remy's POV:
"It's nice that Mrs. Fitzgerald offered us some cake." Drea said. "Especially after the...incident."
"I'm really sorry guys." Cat said. "I've done that flip a million times. I should have landed it."
"What if this is a sign that we're not ready for the talent show?" worried Alejandra.
"Hey, let's not beat ourselves up about this. We handled this like pros. Of course we are ready for the talent show." I said.
The four of us, collectively known as The Manhattan Muses, had been hired by a friend of my mom's to perform at her daughter's birthday party...for free. But hey, a gig's a gig, especially when we're still in high school.
Even if that gig is in the kids zone at Sheriff Stanley's Rodeo.
"So, we had a little domino effect when Cat missed her landing. Better to do that now than during the talent show audition tomorrow, right? I'm sure nobody even noticed."
"We destroyed Sheriff Stanley. His head popped off!" Drea said.
"Ok, yes, we did end up knocking over the life size figurine of Sheriff Stanley, but the employee who cleared it up said it happens all the time. It's not we traumatized the kids or anything."
A little kid, one of the party guests, walked by as she was led to the pinata. She took one look at us and burst into tears, wailing something that sounded a lot like "Stanley!"
"...I'm sure she's fine." I said as grown ups rushed over to comfort her. None of my friends looked convinced. Time for a pep talk.
"We are going to be the first girl group in the history of Lincoln Center Magnet High to win the talent show."
"You said that last year." Alejandra cut in.
"Last year we were lowly freshman, and we hadn't met Cat and Drea yet." I said. "This year, we have more experience. Let's not forget what the prize is - the winner gets time in an actual recording studio, with an actual producer. That would be a life changing opportunity." My friends started to perk up. "So if Sheriff Stanley, the universe, or anybody has a problem with that, then they need to get out of the way...or we will knock them down."
Behind us, one of the kids finally whacked the pinata open. Unfortunately, he whacked it so hard that the candy went flying...with us in the crosshairs.
My friends all burst into laughter.
"You know what?" I said as the kids started to chase after the candy. "I think this is a sign that our future is going to be very sweet."
Cat and Drea went their separate ways when the party was over, leaving Alejandra and I to walk home together.
"Look! They have the new Zoey Taylor CD!" I said as we approached our favorite music store. There was a huge display in the window, and her debut single was playing.
"The latest talent discovered by Tha Myris. Aleja, wouldn't it be amazing if we got to work with him?" I asked. I had known Alejandra since we were both babies. I was one of the only people who got to call her by her nickname.
"Yeah, it would be even better if we knew how to write a song or play any instruments."
"It's 2003. We don't need instruments to make music." I said. "It'll be done digitally. Or, once we hit the big time, the best musicians in the world will beg for the chance to work with us."
"You think so?"
"I know so. First we win the talent show, then we're on our way to fulfilling our destiny of becoming superstars."
"Hey, you want to go see the new Lord of the Rings movie when it comes out?" she asked, abruptly changing the subject.
I shrugged. "Sure, but I thought you hated fantasy movies." I said as we continued our walk home.
"I do. They're so long and boring."
"Then why do you want to see it?"
"I don't know. Something about that song just made me think about it, I guess." She shook her head slightly. "Yeah, never mind. Orlando Bloom is hotter without the elf makeup anyway."
"We gotta stay focused, anyway. Eyes on the prize - oof." I had bumped into a weird phone booth that was sitting on the corner. Aleja laughed.
"That wasn't there before." I said.
"Yeah, sure."
I glanced back over my shoulder as we kept walking.
What the heck is a Police Box anyway?
I'm back! Life got a little hectic, & I had to step away from writing for a while, so this is the first multi chapter story I've written in a long time…Life hasn't gotten any less hectic, but I'm back anyway.
Because I'm trying to get back into my writing habit, I would really appreciate it if you guys would hold me accountable, & make sure I actually finish this story: leave reviews, send me messages if I don't update in a timely manner, or anything else that will hold me to the mark. I am a recovering perfectionist who is trying to give herself permission to be terrible, & I'm trying to not be paralyzed by the fear of failure.
That said, I've never had a regular update schedule, so if you're interested in following along, I suggest that you Follow, Favorite, or otherwise bookmark this page.
Now then, settle in & get ready for another very weird story idea from me.
Please review!
