Chapter 2:
Jacob glares at me. "Glare all you want Black, but it's not you who could die from this curse." I hiss through clenched teeth, holding my ribs. I need to go, there is no alpha here. This wretched curse won't end today. I sigh, closing my eyes.
"Meet my eyes." A deep voice orders. A shiver runs down my spine.Don't look, stay focused. My hands begin to shake, I tighten them around me.
"I can't." I reply quietly. "I have a charm covering my eyes, so what you see won't be real. Your wolf won't recognise the imprint."
"Then there shouldn't be a problem, look at me." He replies, a small whimper leaves my mouth, my hands shake harder.
"The charm could wear off." I say tensely. "Your wolf won't recognise me with my charm, but my magic already recognises you. I can feel you, your emotions. The confusion, anger and below that the longing that you don't even notice. I know exactly where you are in this room, it was the first thing I noticed when I woke. I don't think my charm will hold up against you, my magic will not want to fight the imprint when I see you, the real you."
"What do you mean 'the real you'?" A male I didn't know asked. I looked at him questionably. "Jared" He added, I nod in acknowledgement.
"The eyes. It's where the soul is. Human, vampire, shapeshifter, it doesn't matter, your soul is in your eyes, its the one thing you can not hide. Magic like mine seeks it out, its what makes an Original what we are. I told you I'm pure of heart and spirit. I meant that literally, I am connected to nature, to the spirits, the animals, the sky and the sea. Animals trust me, its why Embry brought me here, his wolf recognised me for what I am, recognised my soul." I fall to my knees gritting my teeth as the full intensity of my pain catches up to me. Arms wrap around me, holding me upright. Home. I sigh.
"Cassie.." William gasps reaching out to me.
"I need to go William, I can't stay here. The pain it's too much." I whisper. His eyes watch me for a few minutes, before he nods.
"Right, Sam take her away. Take her to the motel in Forks and help get her set up, anything she needs, you get her, do you understand me?" He orders looking at Sam. Sam gives a nod of acknowledgement.
"Wait, I want to go to. She isn't leaving without me." His voice rumbles in my ear. I moan quietly shaking my head, trying to pull away.
"No, William. Please I'm not ready I'll come back and give him the answers he wants." I say quietly. His arms tighten. He doesn't want to let me go. Tears pierce my eyes.
"Cassie, he deserves to know." I shake my head closing my eyes against the flood of pain both mine and his. No no no. Not yet, I'm not ready.
"Stop talking about me like I'm not here." His arms loosen and I feel him move around to face me. "You will give me my answers? Because I am damn confused." I let a small smile slip onto my face, nodding.
"Just give me time, I need to figure out what I'm going to say and heal before I come back here and get cut up again." I say stumbling as I try to stand. His arms shoot around to help hold me up, I open my eyes to see a very solid, tan chest in front of me. I reach my hand out to run my finger tips across the expanse of his chest. Soo warm. I feel more then hear the growl that comes from his chest. Oooh I like that sound.
"Cassie." William interrupts.
"William." I imitate.
"Thought you were in pain." He points out. I turn to glare at him. He smirks at me.
"Well now that it's at the front of my mind I am." I say through clenched teeth. Dick.
"Come on Cassandra, I will drive you to the motel." Sam says holding out an arm to me, a warning growl resonates around the room. My eyes go wide and everyone looks at us with shock, except Sam, he maintains his neutral look.
"I won't harm her Paul, I promise. You heard her she'll be back." Paul.. Definitely a name I could moan. "If she stays, she will end up dead." He points out.
"Just look after her." Paul rumbles. I feel his reluctance to let me go. I pull my hands away turning to Sam.
"Let's go. I will see you all later." I say through clenched teeth. They nod, Sam leads me out the door and over to an 1990 Toyota Corolla. "What does a shapeshifter need with a beat up old car?" I smirk at him.
"It isn't always convenient to run everywhere. Besides Emily can't run." He explains, starting the car. True.
"Emily." I test. "She's your imprint?" I ask tensely. Holding my arm as a fresh cut opens up.
"Yes, When will that stop?" He questions glancing at my arm.
"When we hit the boundary line. I'm sorry about the blood, I can take care of it later." I apologise. He shakes his head.
"Don't stress, to be honest I'm more worried about you. We all are." His eyes focus on the road. The implication behind his words clear.
"He's protective already." I sigh. "My spell won't protect me, not with him." Leaning my head back against the head rest, I waved my hand over my eyes removing my spell. What to do?
"You sound like you want to fight this imprint Cassandra." Sam states.
"Call me Cassie, and it isn't that I want to fight it, because I don't. It is just better for Paul and the rest of you if I do. I won't die Sam, ever. Once I remove this curse that is." I stare at him. "I have been around since the beginning of time as have the rest of the Originals. Except I'm different, special in a way. I told you all, I am one of the five creators of the cold ones."
"Yeah I caught that, why would you make the leeches?" He interrupts venomously.
"Its complicated and you are not the one I should have to explain myself too, you are not the alpha or mine. So I strongly suggest you get rid of that tone." I say coolly. He swerves slightly seeing my face.
"Your eyes." He gasps.
"Yes they are violet, that's their true colour, the one I glamoured." I explain rolling my eyes.
"No they are glowing." He says in shock. I smirk.
"It's a show of power, they do that when I feel something intensely, like anger, love or irritation." I say pointedly.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to disrespect you. They are our enemies. You must understand that." He explained himself.
"I'm aware. I just don't care." I relax as we pass the boundary line and I feel the wolfs claws release my shoulder.
"By Earth, Water, Air and Fire, May you hear this wish, Sources of Life and Light Sources of the day and of the Earth, I invoke you here, Heal my body and mind." I command, sighing in relief as the pain extinguishes, blood evaporates and my slashes and cuts heal.
"Woah." Sam mutters, I glance at him to see the shock and awe in his eyes before he focuses on the road. "That's better than our healing."
"It comes in handy." I say. "As I was saying, being one of the creators has advantages, the same venom that changes them and heals them etc. Also runs through our blood, only it doesn't change us."
"How is that possible?" Sam asks pulling into a motel parking lot. There is so much you don't know.
"Because it is made of our individual blood, all five of us. We mixed it together, with other ingredients in a sacred place. It made the Cold Ones and put protection over us. We could not be killed. Almost, completely impervious." I say. "C'mon, let's sort my room out then I need to talk to you about Paul and the Reservation."
