It's a beautiful day to be at the beach, and the host club is making the most of it. They've invited the ladies to spend a glorious day amid the sun and the sand. Hunny is settled in on a large beach blanket, surrounded by various sweets. Mori tries his best to keep the sand away from the impractical spread of food. The Hitachiin twins are racing up and down the beach, hurling water balloons at each other. Tamaki insists on Haruhi building sand castles with him as he refuses to let her out of his sight for even a minute this time. And Kyoya watches it all from the top of a tall lifeguard chair.
Tamaki fawns over Haruhi's sand castle. "It's so adorable! I can hardly believe you've never done this before! Daddy's so proud of his little girl!"
Haruhi scowls, looking from her mound of sand with a seashell for a door to Tamaki's near-perfect replica of Ouran Academy. "You don't have to pretend it's good, Senpai. Especially when it looks like we should be attending class in yours."
"Oh, nonsense. Yours just has a more subtle beauty to it. Besides, everyone has to start somewhere. Here! Let me help you!
"Hey, Boss!"
Tamaki looks up to see one of the twins launch a water balloon in the direction of his precious sand castle. "Nooo!" The blonde teen dives in slow motion, intercepting the treacherous projectile. The balloon explodes against Tamaki's chest, water flying out in all directions. Then with a great shower of sand and water, the host club king topples back atop his own work of art. Tamaki pales as he looks around at the ruined sand castle.
"Senpai, are you alright?" Haruhi fights back a laugh as she offers her hand to help Tamaki out of the now-shapeless pile of sand.
But in a flash, Tamaki is back on his feet, waving his arms franticly as he yells at the grinning twin. "You little devils! How could you do this to me? Have you no manners? No decency?" He rushes over to Kyoya's lifeguard stand. "Mommy! The twins are being especially mean today!"
While Tamaki continues his fit, Kyoya sighs and fixes them all with a disapproving glare. "What part of a relaxing day at the beach was lost on you all?" Tamaki stops raving and falls into a pout, and the twins' smiles turn sheepish under Kyoya's harsh look. "Maybe this would be a good time to put the water balloons away and you two start gathering some firewood for tonight's bonfire."
"Bonfire?" The twins say together.
"Yes. I thought a little fire under the stars would be a nice end to the day's events."
The twins shrug and drop their remaining water balloons. "Whatever you say."
A short time later, the sun begins fading, and everyone gathers on benches around the fire. Haruhi begins making smores and passing them around to the ladies; much to the ladies' delight. Tamaki begins dramaticly feeding smores to the ladies; much to the ladies' delight. And Hikaru and Kaoru are feeding smores to each other; much to the ladies' delight.
Kaoru winces slightly as a fresh smore enters his mouth.
"I'm sorry, Kaoru. Did I hurt you?"
Kaoru pouts at his brother. "It was too hot, Hikaru."
"I'm sorry." Hikaru lifts Kaoru's chin so he can look into his teary eyes. "Shall I kiss the pain away?"
"Hikaru!" Kaoru blushes and looks away shyly.
The ladies swoon and cheer.
As the evening goes on, the guests slowly begin to trickle back to the hotel for the night. Hunny begins to yawn and doze off on Mori's shoulder, so Mori scoops him up in his arms and carries him back to the house the hosts are staying in. Haruhi hadn't wanted to be the first to leave and disappoint her fans but now seemed like a good chance for her to slip away as well. So she said her goodbyes and started toward the house. Tamaki loudly objects to her walking back by herself but is reluctant to leave his own group of ladies. They finally compromise, and Kyoya accompanies Haruhi back to the house. The next host to reach their limit is Kaoru. He puts his hand to his mouth to try to hide a yawn, but he can't hide anything from Hikaru. So the twins bid the ladies good night and begin their walk back to the house.
The twins walk hand in hand along the path. Kaoru stares up at the stars, but Hikaru's attention is caught by a strange van stopped a little way down the nearby road. As he stares at the van, trying to determine if anyone is in it or not, a shadow rushes toward him from the side.
A man dressed all in black slams into him. Strong arms wrap around him; one constricting around his waist, and the other reaching up to clap a hand over his mouth. Hikaru lets go of his brother's hand and hopes he will run to safety.
But Kaoru doesn't run. He jumps on the back of Hikaru's attacker and pounds his fists on the man's shoulders. He doesn't notice until too late that the man had not been alone. Two men pop up on either side of Kaoru, each grabbing hold of one of his arms. They drag him back away from Hikaru's attacker. Kaoru lets out a startled cry as he falls to the ground. "Someone, help us!" Kaoru screams as loud as he can, looking back toward where they left Tamaki and the girls on the beach.
The two men growl in annoyance. "Bad move, kid." The man on his left lands a swift punch to Kaoru's stomach, just as the man on his right decides to land his own blow to Kaoru's face. Kaoru sees stars.
Hikaru bites down on the hand covering his mouth. "Hey! Over here!" Before the man can grab hold of his face again, Hikaru throws himself forward toward the ground as hard as he can. The sudden holt is enough, and the man loses his grip around Hikaru's waist as well. Hikaru crashes down into the sand. He scrambles to his feet and runs toward the house. He only makes it a few feet, before he is tackled to the ground. Hikaru's face buries into the sandy ground, filling his eyes and mouth. He splutters and rubs at his eyes while kicking blindly at the man at his feet.
The man catches one of Hikaru's legs and then the other. A second attacker takes hold of the struggling teen's arms. Together, the two lift him from the ground and begin quickly shuffling back toward the road.
Suddenly, the one holding Hikaru's legs stumbles to the ground with a pained groan. "Unhand them at once!" Tamaki towers indignantly over the man he had just knocked to the ground. Another kick sends the man sprawling in the sand. The host club king very animatedly continues to stomp at the man who had dared to attack his friends.
Ignoring the pain it causes his shoulders, Hikaru twists around until his remaining assailant is forced to let his arms go. Hikaru falls to the ground once more. His attacker attempts to grab hold of him again, but Hikaru tugs on the man's leg, causing him to slide and fall in the sand. Hikaru jumps forward to try to pin his attacker to the ground.
"Leave him! We've got to go!"
The man under Hikaru growls in anger and slams his head forward into Hikaru's face, then easily tosses the stunned teen to the side. He scrambles to his feet and takes off running toward the road.
Hikaru pushes himself up to his knees in the sand and watches the man go. The van has pulled up closer on the road now, and the driver is waving for the escaping attacker to hurry back. Only now, staring at the van, does Hikaru see the third man who had been attacking them. The man is just reaching the open doors at the back of the van. And pinned securely by one arm around his waist and one hand clamped tightly over his mouth, is Kaoru. He struggles against his captor but it's no use. Kaoru reaches a hand out towards his brother, silently pleading for help. Hikaru locks eyes with his brother, and they exchange a desperate fearful look. And then Kaoru's captor tosses him into the back of the van before hopping up into it himself. Hikaru's escaped attacker reaches the van, quickly pulls himself inside, and slams the doors shut behind him. And the van speeds off into the night.
"Kaoru!" Hikaru struggles to stand up and clumsily runs to the road. He runs down the road as fast as his shaky legs will carry him, but it's hopeless. The van is already long gone. Kaoru is already long gone. Hikaru's unsteady legs give out, and he falls to his hands and knees on the side of the road. His face is a mess of tears and blood, and all he can do is stare into the darkness where his brother disappeared.
