Chapter 5
"I never wanted an imprint, I didn't want to be bound to another person like that. I thought it disgusting that Sam had his choices taken away, that Emily could control him so easily." Paul said quietly. Sam across the fire pulled Emily into his arms and held her tightly glaring at Paul. I squeeze Pauls hand, he doesnt understand. He doesnt understand what the imprint means. What it means for us.
"Paul.." I begin.
"No Cassie, this pull, I feel it, something pulling me towards you. I didn't realise what the imprint means. How special it is. I still don't.. I guess." He pulls his hand away from me and runs it threw his hair. I step up and walk to the fire rubbing the red marks on my wrist. It's wearing off. I will need to leave soon.
"How do we help you?" The deep baritone of the alpha asks. I look into the flames. "How can I help end this curse? Help you and Paul?"
"This curse.." I mutter. "This curse was forged in darkness, in fire and death by a moron that didn't understand and a bitch that knew the truth." I say bitterly turning to face the Alpha. "Your ancestor was a fool, he couldn't acknowledge that a change was beginning in the pack. That the alliance between wolf and Original was forged centuries ago, that it was necessary to prevent a war of the kinds." I sigh. "He was my best friend, the closest I had been to another person in centuries. When I went to him, I was excited. This vision, this insight into my future.. this meant I didn't have to be alone, I could have a family." My eyes glittered, I felt more than heard the intake of breath Paul took behind me. "But Ephraim was angry, he phased to close. He cut my face, my chest.. my arms." I look at Emily, recognising the same scars. Sam holds her tightly his head down. A low constant growl sounds behind me. Emily meets my eyes.
"He would have killed me in that moment, but striking me, the being that allowed him to phase. That was forbidden. In that moment the rest of the pack showed up, they turnt on their alpha. They protected me and I rose up. I could hear the Alpha growl and I felt the pack tremble trying to resist obeying. I walked through the pack I placed my hand on the beta. Joseph Uley." Sam raises his head and meets my gaze. "Joseph stood strong and the pack followed him. Ephraim lost everything, with one strike, he lost his pack, the tribe and his home. He ran." I sway heavily, the pain hitting my head. Immediately I'm in the arms of Paul. His warm chest against my face. As suddenly as the pain hit, it was gone. Too warm, my chest feels funny. Outside interference. I stand up pushing Paul away with one hand and turn towards the Cullen Clan.
My eyes fix on the tall blonde male. Empath. He can feel me. He knows. He nods at me. "How long?"
"As long as I can." I nod and send a wave of gratitude his way. I settle on the floor leaning against Paul. I need to feel your touch.
"Ephraim ran for a long time. Until he ran across, Amelia Greysworth. Another original, she was not in the circle of the 5 creators of the cold ones. She was turnt away for her radical ideas on how to control the human race. She believed we were superior, that we should be on thrones made from human bones." Emily shivered.
"Thats awful." I nod.
"We disagreed with her, which is why she wasn't involved in the ceremony. She became a very angry, spiteful person after that. She vowed revenge against all of us. So when Ephraim ran into her spewing his hatred about me, it was almost to easy for her to manipulate him and get back at me."
"They hurt you?" Rosalie asks. She leaned forward and the big male she is with put his arm around her rubbing her shoulder.
"Oh they did worse than that. Amelia convinced Ephraim that a blood curse was the best way to keep me off his land." I stare into the flames of the fire as itdragged into a memory I wish I could forget.
I woke up with a splitting pain in my head to the smell of smoke and the sound of a deranged cackle. When my eyes finally open all I can see is a blurry figure covered in smoke. I couch when it reaches my lungs, choking on the thickness. Dark dark magic. A pale hand reaches out and grabs my face.
"Good morning Darling, we were beginning to think you were going to sleep through the party." A sickly sweet voice proclaimed. I look at the beautiful face in front of me, the black eyes look out of place on someone like her, with her gorgeous red hair, and angular features. However there they are, pitch black eyes filled completely with contempt and hate.e
"Amelia." I sigh. "Your not still mad are you? C'mon it was over a few thousand years ago, you need to move on." I roll my eyes, and that beautiful smile on her face begins to twist and change into an ugly sneer.
"Move on? We could be queens. Royalty. Have every being bow down to us. We are the powerful ones not them. THEM WHO ARE NOTHING, WHO BURNED OUR HOMES AND TORTURED OUR CHILDREN. THEY NEED TO REMEMBER WHAT WE ARE. WHO WE ARE, but no you hide in the shadows pretending to be something your not, something below you." I shake my head.
"Amelia-"
"You and the other four made these creatures that we could have controlled, an army we could have dominated with, and set them free. You think that caused less damage? Less pain? Do you think that was a better outcome?" She spits at me, her nails dig into my jaw in her anger.
"You can't control them Amelia, we tried. They are mindless when they are hungry, blood thirsty demons. Its why I made-"
"Yes, your wolves." She sneered at me. "Well as it seems your wolves aren't all that happy with you." She lets go and moves to the side. Through the smoke and darkness I see a figure hunched over vibrating. Ephraim? No no no no what have you done? I tug against the chains that bind me to this tree. Pulling trying to get free. I try to summon my magic to break free but it doesn't respond. That deranged cackle can be heard again. "You can't get free Darling, not with magic dampeners around you. You see your little best friend here found me in the strangest of places, he told me about what you did to him, turning the pack against him, getting him thrown out of his home, contaminating the bloodlines." She stated with a hard tone and a pointed look.
"E no, that's not, it's not what happened. You-"
"YOU STOLE EVERYTHING FROM ME! BUT I WONT LET YOU DO THIS. THE BLOODLINES STAY AS THEY ARE. NO PALE FACE WHORE WILL MESS THAT UP FOR US" Ephraim stands up and screams.
"Ephraim, please don't do this. You don't understand what she will do. Listen to me, you don't know her, you can't trust her. She's out for me. Please, you can't change the future. It will happen anyway. There's nothing you can do." I plead, tugging at the chain that binds me to the tree, staring at my best friend in disbelief. SMACK. My head snaps back as blood begins to pour from my nose.
"Shut it bitch, this is for the best." Amelia says smirking, turning back to the open flame and continuing the spell.
"E, listen. He will need me. The pack-"
"NO!" He turns to me fury in his eyes. "No, I absolutely will not have some skank coming on to my reservation and contaminating the blood line. Giving birth to half breed children, abominations. I won't allow it, you have forced my hand. This is the best way." He takes a step towards me. My heart breaks.. Tears start streaming from my eyes. "You need to be stopped."
"Please."My voice breaks under the strain. "There is a cost. You don't understand." He shakes his head.
"I will pay it." No, no no. You don't understand. I start shaking my head, hysterical.
"Stupid." Amelia sniggers. He turns to her. "You are the cost, and you will be her death." She says. "I call upon the ancient ones from the great abyss to do my bidding. I invoke Cthulhu, God of Anger and the creatures of the underworld hear me now!" My eyes go wide as I realise exactly what she is saying, what she plans on doing. No No No. I shake my head vigorously pulling at my restraints tight enough to start bleeding but I don't feel it.
"Ephraim please stop her. Please." He stares at me, hate in his eyes.
"No." He states. I whimper fighting with everything to get free, to stop her and free him. Dammit Ephraim. Listen to me. When Amelia holds up the bones of a wolf in her hands, I let out a shaking gasp of air. I fall limp against my bonds.
"Goodbye Ephraim.." I whisper. He stares at me.
"Bones of Anger, bones to dust
full of fury revenge is just
I scatter these bones, these bones of rage,
take thine enemy, bring her pain
I see thine enemy before me now
I bind her, crush her, bring her down
With these bones I now do crush spells of
Make thine enemy turn to dust
torment, fire, out of control
with this hex I curse your soul
So I will it to be!"Amelia screams out as she throws the bones into the fire. She turns to face a large black wolf growling infront of her. She points at me and the wolf turns to glare at me.
"Ephraim please, fight her. Stop." He growls at me baring his teeth before he jumps at me, claws outstretched. I let out a bloodcurdling scream.
I shake my head. "Things got worse from there. Ephraim tore me apart before the spell faded and he realised what he had done. By then Amelia was gone her laugh left hanging in the air. I was barely standing, in so much agony." Pauls arms tightened around me. A steady growl vibrating through me from him. The only other sound over the crackle of the fire. It's getting smaller, when that fire is gone.. I sigh. "Ephraim I think he felt regret in that moment. He unlocked the chains holding me up and caught me when I fell. He never said anything as he held me, we both just waited for me to die."
"But you didnt?" Jared asked. I look over to him.
"No. It wasn't meant to be that fast, Amelia wanted me to suffer and this wasn't enough for her. As I healed the wounds moved to him, his claws that had dug into my skin were now in his. He died that night, caused by his own anger and stubbornness. Ever since every time I cross onto Quileute land I have his claws tearing me open, recreating the injuries from that moment."
