Later at lunch, Daria was sitting with Jane.
"You were right, this is worse than I thought," said Daria who was just pushing her food around on her plate.
"Can't believe they put me in a special class," she said.
"That's what happens when you're different around here, and I mean smart by that in your case," said Jane with a smile.
"Yeah well I feel that I should sue for discrimination because this is just too much," said Daria who felt her heart rate increase a little by the sight of the smile the other girl had given her.
"Now that would be something," said Jane.
"Hey, who's the new girl, Jane?" asked a guy who had walked over and sat down next to Jane. He was wearing a green shirt with khakis and had a soul patch on his chin. One of his ears also had several piercings in it.
"Daria Morgendorffer, meet my brother, Trent Lane," said Jane.
"Hey," said Daria.
"Wow, you're kind of void of any emotions aren't you?" asked Trent which earned him an elbow to the side from Jane.
"Don't be rude," said Jane.
"It's alright, I get that kind of thing a lot," said Daria without any care in the world. They then heard the laughter of a bunch of girls from another table which caused the three to look over at them.
"Looks like the other new girl is hitting it off with the Barbies," said Trent.
"That's my sister, Quinn," said Daria as she noticed her sister.
"And of course she's getting along with them, not a full brain cell between any of them," she said which got a laugh out of Jane.
"I have a feeling school won't be so boring anymore with you around," said Jane while smiling again.
"First time I've heard that one," said Daria who was confused by why her heart rate kept increasing at the sight of the other girl's smile.
