That Saturday, Mrs. Morgendorffer was sitting on the couch when Daria came downstairs.

"Are you going out?" asked Mrs. Morgendorffer.

"Heading over to Jane's place, I'll be back later this evening," said Daria before heading out the door.

"She's been talking about that Jane girl a lot in the last week" said Mrs. Morgendorffer with a surprised expression.

"And she said friends are a waste of time," she said with a smile as she turned back to the TV. Later at the Lane house, Jane and Daria were sitting around Jane's room.

"This episode sucks," said Daria as she sat on Jane's bed watching Sick Sad World.

"I don't know, sounds good to me," said Jane who was focused on a painting she was working on and not paying attention to the TV.

"What are you even painting?" asked Daria.

"You can see it when I'm done with it," said Jane.

"But I do have you to thank for the inspiration to make this," she said while doing a few more strokes on the canvas.

"What did I do?" asked a confused Daria.

"You were just being yourself," said Jane as she put her brush down before standing up.

"So, what do you think?" she asked as she picked up the canvas and turned it toward the other girl who was stunned by what she saw.

"It… it's me," said Daria as she noticed her face painted in a way that illuminated it. It was also painted in a way that made her expression softer even though there was no emotion at all.

"After meeting you I just couldn't help but pain you for some reason," said Jane who was blushing with a nervous smile.

"I hope it's not too weird for you," she said.

"Not at all, I just was not expecting this," said Daria.

"Well you can take it home with you if you like, or I can just get rid of it or something if you don't want to," said Jane.

"No, I'd be glad to take it since it's a gift from my friend," said Daria who had that strange feeling again.
