A version of Dr. McCoy's and Jim Kirk's first meeting. McCoy and Kirk end up on the same shuttle headed for planetside shore leave. When an alien vessel opens fire on the shuttle, killing the pilot, Kirk takes over, keeps the shuttle in one piece, and emergency lands. Kirk manages to break both legs during the rough landing. Bones is coming back to the Enterprise from helping with an epidemic. The Captain of the Bellflower gets aspirations and he has to deal with an Away Team mishap. This gains him a friend.
