Tara's birthday was coming up. Her twentieth. It should be a day of celebration. Of family and friends gathering to tell her they were glad she existed. That she was apart of their lives. She had heard Willow on the phone, discussing a party for her. Normally a person is excited at the thought of getting presents and cake. Tara was increasingly terrified as her birthday approached. She had taken to avoiding the Pack members, certain they'd figure out her terrible secret. The one that had haunted her since her mother had died and her father had told her that her power came from a demon source. A demon from within their own bodies. A demon she would turn into on her twentieth birthday. Just like her mother had, according to her father. It's why they treated her they way did. It kept the demon from manifesting. Tara was terrified. Terrified she would hurt someone. Like Willow, her beautiful Willow. Or Cordelia and the baby growing beneath her heart. The others would hate her and destroy her and she would deserve it. Yes, Tara was terrified. That's why she did what she did. She hoped the others never found out.

Tara was walking back to her dorm when a woman stepped out of the shadows. Tara was startled to see it was her cousin, Beth.

"What are you doing here, Beth?" Tara asked.

"We've come to see you for your birthday, of course. Those people you're spending time with. Do they know the truth about you? About what you will become? Your twentieth is only a couple of days away and you know what will happen as well as I do. You will manifest and hurt and kill people. It's what monsters do, after all. Your Pa will be by to see you in a bit."

Tara raced to her dorm room. Running from Beth words. Running from the fear that they were right and she was a monster. Her Pa was waiting for her, just as she had known he would be. Holding a large crystal.

"You're not even bothering to hide this from me. Did you think I wouldn't find it? Did you think we wouldn't find you? You're a danger to people and you need to be controlled. Pack your things. I'll be by tomorrow to get you. Be ready."

The next day, Faith and the Pack were working out in the fitness room that Giles and Jenny had set up in the back of their shop. Cordelia was doing some light exercises as well. Grandma had said it was all right, as long as she didn't strain anything. Xander was trying not to hover. Which turned out to be a good thing, as suddenly something hit him and he fell back into the wall. "What the hell?" Cordelia yelled.

All around her the others were getting hit as well. Knocked into walls and onto the floor. Invisible people were attacking them. Remembering Invisible Marcie, Xander yelled. "Everyone quiet, use your ears and nose. Find them that way." Everyone went silent and then Faith and the Pack attacked, hitting their silent opponents.

Tara came in and saw that they couldn't see their attackers. They were relying on their other senses and it was mostly working, but not completely. Xander was trying to guard Cordelia at the same he was dealing with a demon he couldn't see. Tara immediately realized her spell was to blame and ended it.

Instantly, the demons could be seen. It didn't take long to kill them, after that.

"Tara, what happened? You ended a spell, you have one go wrong? That happens." Heidi asked.

"No, it's, it's, I uh."

"Tara, what's wrong? You're afraid, I can smell it. Why are you afraid? We're not mad at you. Spells can go wrong all the time." Rhonda said.

Just then the front door of the shop opened and a middle aged man, a man in his mid twenties and a young woman in her early twenties walked in. They saw the dead demons and were startled.

"What is going on here?" The older man demanded.

"Dad, um." Tara started to say.

"Are you responsible for this? I knew your evil would manifest. Now I'm taking you out of here before someone does get hurt by you."

"What are you talking about? What evil?" Faith demanded to know.

"The women in our family. They have evil in them. A demon, it's where the power comes from." The older man told them. "We were hoping to remove her, before stuff like this happened."

"You put a spell on us," Giles said. "You were afraid we would see this demon."

"Yes, I, I'm sorry, I didn't mean. I should go."

"Go, what do you mean go? You can't just leave." Willow exclaimed.

"But I don't want to hurt anyone."

"Excuse me, could you explain to me why you think she has a demon in her." Xander asked.

"It's where the power comes from, of course." The older man answered.

"Okay, so the fact that she's a witch is what you're basing this on right? Just so I'm clear." kyle said.

"Yes."

"Thought so." Said Tor. "She doesn't smell evil or demony. You lied to her. You made her believe she'd turn into a monster. We hunt monsters. We know what they are. She's not a monster."

"You can't be serious. You expect us to believe you know one when you see one?" The old man spluttered.

"Dad, I believe them. If they say I'm not a monster, then I'm not a monster. Please just go."

"Dad! Are you just going to let her...Tara, if you don't get in that car, I swear by God, I will beat you down." The younger man said.

"And I swear by your full and manly beard, you're going to break something trying." Xander told him.

"Who do you people think you are? We are Tara's blood kin, who are you?"

"We're a family. Now get the fuck out, before we pick you up and through you out." Faith answered.

It was a beautiful party. Full of presents and a cake. Tara and Willow literally floated into a dance. Tara's real family celebrated their joy at her existence and her part in their lives,
