Days had gone by and Sonic had quickly gotten used to sharing the Green Hill Zone with Tails; that morning he went on his normal morning run and then went to the hangar where Tails decided to work on not only getting the old plane there up and running but improve on it. "Hey Tails; how is it going with that old thing? You think that you have time to put it aside and pick up the spare game controller? It just occurred to me that I now have someone to play two player with on Feels the Rabbit 2!" Sonic asked thinking about his favourite video game series.
"I would love to Sonic; I am almost done anyway and I figured that if we paint it up then we can make use of this for missions. For a name I was thinking of calling it the Tornado..." Tails replied and they heard a small boom noise and the sound of scampering frightened forest animals. "Sonic... What do you think that was?" Tails asked freaked out and shaken by the noise.
"I don't know Tails but I aim to fight out!" Sonic said as he got ready to roll out to the forest as Tails used his tails to propel his speed so that he could catch up once they ventured out the forest.
"Calm down; everyone... Slow down... What has got you all in a state?" Sonic asked as he and Tails did their best not to get trampled on by the stampede of scared freaked out animals. They paused as they saw a section of the trees on fire; Sonic then instantly ran away and came back with a bucket of water as he kept on dousing the fire with water and leaving to return with the bucket refilled. "Something tells me that this was no campfire..." Sonic muttered as soon they investigated the area and and found scraps of pieces on the ground.
Tails took out the Miles Electric device and scanned the pieces, "Sonic... These are bomb pieces!" Tails muttered covering his mouth and this got concern from Sonic. "Wait... I am getting information about the type of bomb... Hmm... It says here that the factory that manufactured this type of bomb closed down years ago because they were too faulty... The location of the factory isn't actually too far as to where we are now..." Tails said reading what was coming up on the Miles Electric.
"Tell me which way to go to Tails and we will see if we can find our bomber there!" Sonic said getting ready to catch some sort of bomb throwing bad guy. Soon enough at great speed they reached the factory which definitely looked like it was in disarray but checking the door it wasn't locked.
Inside through the dust they found what seemed to be a lair with a board set up with a drawing of plans; it showed plans to place bombs to decimate a nearby beaver dam. Tails looked over the Miles Electric and then gasped; "Tails; please let that gasp be that you just remembered that you left something on back in Green Hill and it's nothing related to this plan?" pleaded Sonic and Tails shook his head.
"I did the calculations and if our bomber succeeds in destroying this dam; then there are several villages that will be flooded with who knows how many that could end up being dead; the flooding would happen too fast to attempt to set up any evacuations!" Tails explained and Sonic's demeanour looked serious.
"Sounds like we don't have a moment to lose then!" Sonic said getting ready to leave and Tails nodded.
A figure with a hooded jumper and mask had finished setting up the bombs at the dam and set the activation. "You're plan is now a dud bomber!" Sonic said as he easily took the bomber by surprise by coming out with a spin dash attack on him and had him pinned down.
"Sonic; the bombs!" Tails shouted in reminder as Sonic then gulped at the water in the dam and down below but soon ran to the dam and started picking up the bombs to throw into the sky as far as he could, Tails shook his head but followed Sonic's example in throwing the bombs right into the sky.
They set up above the trees scaring away the bombs as well as frightening the animals; "I am one hundred percent sure that there were trillions of better and more ideal ways to do this but the day is saved regardless!" Sonic cheered as Tails helped to unmask and take down the bomber to reveal a green furred teenage duck.
"Who are you and why did you do this?" Tails asked as the bomber grumbled.
"I'm Bean... My father was the manager of the factory but there was an accident with the assembly line and he was killed in the blast. I was just a nobody orphan since then but then I saw you the orphan who was a troublemaker and got famous after Robotnik and no one remembered him before his launched his attack... I thought that if I pulled this off then I could be famous as well; make a name for myself... I figured that I could go by 'the Hooligan'..." the bomber explained and Sonic was furious.
"You started with the potential for a sob story but you are saying that you endangered all those people and could have wrecked the survivors' lives... For attention?" Sonic asked as he went and kicked Bean in the shins with him crying out loud.
"But wait... Why did you set one off before? We may never have found out and could have stopped you before then?" Tails asked remembering but Bean looked puzzled.
"I didn't... I must have dropped one and it set off the timer itself... They are faulty bombs after all..." Bean explained and Sonic thought that it explains that.
"Why am I not surprised to hear that you were involved with those explosions in the sky?" Armand asked shaking his head with his arms folded at Mobotropolis where Sonic and Tails had taken Bean for the guards to take him into custody.
"I think we did pretty well considering we are not bomb disposal experts!" Sonic retorted as Armand as he just stormed off in a huff with a mutter that he will be watching them.
"So you two get to go on an adventure without me? Perhaps next time; we should get communication devices set so that when the need arises we can call the others and for backup." Sally said as she was nearby to oversee the guards that were going to set out to investigate only for Sonic and Tails to find them to drop off the culprit.
"Aw Sal; are you jealous of Tails? Think that you could be replaced as my sidekick?" Sonic joked as Sally fumed.
"I am no one's sidekick Hedgehog!" Sally said as she went off in a huff herself.
"You got Princess Sally mad..." Tails muttered as Sonic put a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
"Just playing around Tails and she knows that she can't stay mad at me for long; besides considering that thanks to her my first kiss was to a fish then I deserve to be petty at her expense. How about we go back to Green Hill and fire up Feels the Rabbit 2?" Sonic replied and Tails nodded looking forward to playing games with his idol turned new best friend after their little adventure.
Feels the Rabbit is the name given to one of the potential concept pitches a designer at Sega made when they were on the lookout for a new mascot to compete with Mario; a rabbit that can use his ears to grab at things (a similar gameplay concept ended up being used for the game Ristar) and would go on to be an inspiration for Tangle the Lemur in IDW.
