(Author's note: ppl said they were mad that when I said 3 part story. Sorry for the confusion. I meant this is a 3 part story, so it's this story with maybe 7 chapters, a middle story, and then the climax story. Like how Julia's trial went on for 3 episodes)
William arrived at the address he was given, but he was confused, because the house was a run-down shack with 15 kids, playing in the yard, dressed in dirty ripped clothing. He placed a hand on his nose and mouth, as the stench was unbearable.
He asked a pass byer, "excuse me" and shows his badge, "detective William Murdoch, Toronto Constabulary. Is this the Green's house?"
"Yes it is. Is this about the smell?" The young man no one than 25 years old asked
"No, just here to ask about their ward, Timothy. But yes the smell is…"
"All these children are their wards. They only bathe them once a month, when the orphanage drops off a new child for them to take care of…but what about Timothy?"
"He hasn't been seen at school in 3 days. Just need to ask him questions."
The young man looked confused, "the last time I saw him, he was leaving for school."
"When was this?"
"It was 3 days ago. He said he was looking forward to see his young friend, Susannah."
William smiled, "that's my daughter."
"You must be proud."
"I am. But did Timothy say anything about school?"
The young man leaned closer to William, "he was getting daily beatings at school by this nun named Helga. She was a new nun. But he told me he was going to confront her, which I said bad idea."
"You knew him well, it seems?" William asked
"Timothy is my son. But I had to give him up, after his mother died. So, every time, he was removed by an orphanage or home, I would take a job near him."
"I understand. I would do the same thing."
"But now I think of it, the headmaster, came here 2 days ago. He talked to Mr. Green about Timothy running away from the school."
"And you didn't report it?"
"Certain days, if Timothy was having a bad day, he would run to his secret hideout in the woods. I know about this hideout because he showed me. But I went there the other day, and he wasn't there."
"Thank you, Mr?"
"Collins, James Collins"
"Thank you, Mr. Collins. If I hear anything, I'll let you know"
"Same here"
William held his breath as he passed by the children, who went up to him, pulling at his, arm, "are you here to adopt us?" One little girl asked
All William wanted to do was hug her, "no, I am afraid not. I am here to speak to Mr. and Mrs. Green."
"There in the house, sleeping off their hangovers" a young girl said who couldn't be more than 10
"Thank you" William said and tilted his hat as he knocked on the door and opened it, "hello, Mr. and Mrs. Green? Toronto Constabulary"
A woman in her 40s came out of nowhere holding a baby, while smoking, "shhh him. My husband is napping, are you here to take one of the children?"
"No, I am here about Timothy."
The woman whispered, "what about him? Whatever you heard, we didn't harm him"
"No, I heard he went missing from school 3 days ago."
"The headmaster told us, he went missing 2 days ago…strange."
"Why didn't you report him missing?"
"I wanted to but my husband…" she began crying, "he said if he's dead. He's dead. But I swear we didn't harm him. I cared for Timothy as my own child."
"Like you care for the other children outside."
"We lost our jobs and can't afford water to bathe. Whatever water we get, is only for drinking, and cooking."
"Hmm. Well, if you find out any more information about Timothy." He gives her a card, "give me a call, please."
"Of course. Have a good day detective"
"Good day, Mrs. Green"
William got back to the station house, as he entered into his office, as the inspector came in and closed the door, "so, Murdoch, how was your meeting with the headmaster?"
William rubbed his forehead, "forgive my language, but he's a bastard and he agreed to the punishments to Susannah. But he wasn't the person doing them."
"Then who?"
"A new nun at the school. But we were informed, Susannah's friend Timothy received these beatings too. The school claims he ran away, but I think something worse has happened."
"Did you notify his parents?"
"He lives in a ward, under the supervision of Mr. and Mrs. Green. I visited them and I feel sorry for the other kids that live there as well. The wife I talked to and said she is concerned. The husband doesn't care. But, also I met Timothy's biological father, who works across the street, and he is concerned as to his whereabouts."
"So, what is the first thing you're going to do then?"
"Well, I wanted to get information on the new nun and go visit Timothy's hideout in the woods, since father had mentioned…"
As William was talking to the inspector his phone rings, "hello, detective William…"
"DADDY, HELP! She's after me! She's going to kill me!"
"Susannah, who is after you?"
Brackenreid looks concerned
"No, get away from me, no…" the line is cut
William hits the receiver, "hello, Susannah? Susannah!" And throws the phone, "sir, I have…"
"Go, go" Brackenreid shouts as he grabs William's hat and hands it to him
