The Paladins of Voltron have successfully rescued Shay and thwarted Prorok's plot to seal them on the Balmera and steal their Lions, however just as they thought the battle was over, a new threat enter the Balmera, and Voltron is facing off against the sleeping Robeast that has arrived.
"Oh, no!" Said Pidge in shock.
'Oh, not again.' Said Green in a panic tone
"Please tell me there's not a giant monster in there. Please tell me it's empty! Or full of space candy. One of those two. Either one is fine." Said Hunk hoping it was either the two.
'Yeah, I would really hope that there's candy in it.' Said Hunk looking worried.
"I don't think it's a piñata, Honey-Bee." Said Lana looking at the coffin.
'And I'm pretty sure there isn't any candy in it.' Said Blue looking concerned.
"If it's the same kind of monster that attacked us on Arus, we already know how to beat it." Said Keith getting their position.
'Right, if it's the same monster, let's get the sword ready.' Said Red agreeing with Keith.
So Keith uses the Red Bayard to summon the saber, and Pidge readies Voltron's shield, as they all stand on their position.
"Hold your ground!" Said Shiro instructing his team.
However, the Robeast that emerges from the transport ship is not anything like the previous one they fought on Arus. The Robeast, Drazil, is powered by an unimaginable amount of Quintessence courtesy of Haggar, and covered in eyes that function as laser cannons.
Then with a powerful blast from its chest cannon, Drazil knocks Voltron a large distance backwards, although the Paladins are able to defend against the blast with their shield.
"It's not candy!" Shouted Hunk in a panic tone.
"And it's not the same monster!" Said Lana realizing it's a different Robeast.
"We need to draw its fire away from the Balmera's surface!" Said Shiro instructing the team.
In order to avoid causing harm to the Balmera, they try flying Voltron over the surface to dodge the lasers and strike at the Robeast.
Drazil hovers above the surface itself, allowing agility to dance around Voltron's saber and strike the massive robot from behind. It is also powerful enough to weaken the Green Lion and damage their shield, which the Paladins are repeatedly forced to use when unable to dodge without allowing the Balmera to be hit.
"We can't hold out!" Shouted Lana struggling with the blast.
"My Lion's weakening! If the shield sustains structural damage, we're done for!" Said Pidge struggling as well.
"Pidge and Lana are right!" Said Keith agreeing with the Green and Blue Paladins.
"What are we going to do, this thing is really taking us down!" Said Lana struggling to hold her stance.
"Lana, watch your footing!" Shouted Keith warning Lana.
Suddenly, the Blue Lion trips and Voltron falls over, its shield splitting in half, but luckily missing being struck, and the Paladins groan from the fall.
"Okay, Team Voltron, disband!" Said Shiro as the Lions began to split apart. "Everyone, evasive maneuvers! It can't shoot us all at once!"
So as the Paladins separate, they think the Robeast cannot hit the five of them at once. However, they are proven wrong as Drazil spreads its arms wide, revealing how they are lined with weaponized eyes, and fires a bombardment of lasers.
"Okay, it can do that too." Said Shiro seeing the situation is getting worse.
As the Paladins scramble to avoid being hit, Drazil received a blast from the Castle of Lions momentarily frees the Paladins from the onslaught and staggers the monster, but the weakened Castleship struggles to sustain its particle barrier when it is assaulted by a retaliating strike.
"Where does Zarkon get these beasts from?" Asked Allura wondering how Zarkon has access to these beasts. "And how do they keep finding us?"
"Princess, the particle barrier won't sustain much longer." Said Coran informing to Allura. "It's still not at full strength after the blast from the Galra ship."
Back down at the battle, the Paladins are trying very hard to fight Drazil, but apparently it was getting very difficult, due to the blast from Drazil's many eyes, and then Shiro got an idea.
"Keith, try to draw its fire, I'm coming in from above!" Said Shiro instructing Keith.
"Roger!" Said Keith following Shiro's command.
So Keith summoned the Red Lion's heat ray and uses it to draw the Robeast's attention while Shiro sneaks in from behind with the Black Lion, and prepared to fire its mouth cannon. However, Drazil is able to rotate an eye cannon around and blast the Black Lion, and Shiro pulls away at the last second to avoid being hit.
"We need to find its blind spot!" Said Lana informing the Paladins.
"I don't think this thing has a blind spot. It has a thousand eyes." Said Pidge stating her point of view.
"Laser eyes. Laser eyes!" Said Hunk who is frantically dodging the lasers in the Yellow Lion.
"What do we do? Fighting this thing is like fighting an entire fleet at once!" Said Pidge avoiding the lasers.
"I think we've got to aim for those laser eyes and take them out." Said Keith suggesting an idea.
"Well, I think it might be our only idea we have so far, so let's go for it!" Said Lana agreeing with Keith's idea and Keith blush at how Lana agree with him.
"We'll cover you from up here!" Said Allura as she provided some cover fire.
So the Castle of Lions fires lasers at Drazil to help the Paladins, however the Robeast retaliates with an onslaught of laser fire against the Castleship's particle barrier, cause the castle's alarm blaring out of control.
"We've lost the spectral generator! Going to reserve!" Said Coran and vegans to panic as the alarm keeps going. "There's a fire in VIN bay three! Suppressors on! Suppressors out! Princess, the ship is being torn apart!"
"We're taking heavy fire up here!" Said Allura warning the Paladins. "We're in trouble!"
"Princess, pull back! Get out of its range, now!" Said Shiro telling Allura to take cover.
"We will not abandon you!" Said Allura refusing to let the Paladins fight Drazil alone.
"You're not abandoning us. We're about to pull back anyway." Said Shiro telling Allura.
"We are?" Asked Hunk in shock.
"We can't hold out. We have to. Lions, to the mine shafts! It's the only place the monster can't get us." Said Shiro instructing his team.
"Roger that!" Said Pidge as the Paladins send their Lions into the mine shafts where Drazil cannot attack them.
"Heading into orbit!" Said Allura as she sends the Castleship into orbit, out of the monster's range of fire.
At the bottom of one mine shaft, Shiro, Keith, and Hunk meet with Shay, Rax, and their family with the Red Lion, Black Lion, and Yellow Lion, in their physical forms, while Lance and Pidge are in a different mine shaft with the Blue Lion and Green Lion in their physical forms.
"What is happening?" Asked Rax approaching to Shiro, Keith, and Hunk.
"There's a monster up there that Zarkon sent to destroy us." Said Keith telling Shay's family the situation.
"A monster? Will Zarkon's savagery never abate? Perhaps our people were never meant to be free." Said Shay starting to lose hope and her father hugs her for comfort.
The Yellow Lion starts to feel bad for Shay and her family for how Zarkon and the Galra Empire have made them suffer, so being caring and kind as he is, the Yellow Lion walk towards Shay and comforts her by rubbing his head on her hand, Shay was surprised at first, but smiles and pets him on his head.
"That's how Yellow show his kindness and caring to you, and he's saying that you can't give up Shay, and he's right." Said Hunk encouraging Shay. "Zarkon's power grows with every planet he conquers, but he's weakened by every being that fights back."
"Fight back? Against a monster like that? How?" Asked Shay looking at Hunk.
"I don't know, but we can beat it. Tell her, Keith." Said Hunk looking at Keith.
"Can we?" Asked Keith looking unsure.
"Yes, we can! This is our first mission and we're not going to fail. We can beat it. We just need some time to come up with a plan." Said Shiro encouraging everyone.
"See? Told you we can. Thanks, Shiro." Said Hunk smiling at Shiro.
Suddenly the sound of the Balmera groaning in pain came, and the shaft around them begins trembling and crumbling underfoot.
"Do you guys feel that over there?" Asked Hunk to Lance and Pidge.
"Yeah, we feel it." Said Lance feeling the rumbling in the mine shaft.
"It's that sound again. What is that?" Asked Pidge getting concerned.
Suddenly a crack began to appear in the ground and the Balmeran's kneel to the ground as Shay's grandmother place her hand on the crack, and they all look sad as they know what that sound was.
"That great noise comes from the Balmera itself. Our home crumbles beneath our feet. The Balmera is dying." Said Rax as the Balmeran's look saddened.
Meanwhile back at the Castle of Lions, Allura and Coran have also head the Balmera's groaning and start checking their scanners.
"Coran, Allura, are you there?" Asked Shiro speaking to Allura and Coran over the communication channel.
"Shiro, we're here." Said Allura communicating with Shiro,
"The Balmera. . ." Said Shiro about to tell them.
"We already know. Our scanners are showing the life energy draining from the Balmera." Said Coran bringing up a heat signature of the Balmera on screen of the Castle of Lions.
Meanwhile back down in the mine shaft where Lana and Pidge are, Pidge activates her armor to view the scan of the Balmera, and show it to Lana.
"How does that happen?" Asked Pidge looking over the scan.
"Removing crystals from a Balmera is like removing a vital part of the mighty beast. The Balmera needs time to regenerate itself to stay healthy, but the Galra's greed may have cost this noble Balmera its life." Said Coran explaining as the heat signature on the screen fades.
Meanwhile at the other mine shaft where Shiro, Keith, and Hunk are, Shiro had also activate his armor to view the scan of the Balmera, and show it to Hunk and Keith.
"So, what's gonna happen?" Asked Hunk getting concerned.
"Its core will collapse, destabilizing the entire skeletal structure. Anything or anyone remaining on the Balmera at that point will be crushed into dust." Said Coran explaining and Shiro got horrified.
"How long before its core collapses?" Asked Shiro to Coran.
"Probably a matter of hours. The mighty organism willingly gives itself to all, but not all return its kindness." Said Coran explaining how long they have sadly.
"Then our time is short. We'll evacuate the planet. We need to get all the Balmerans to the Castle of Lions before the planet implodes." Said Allura and she appear on the Paladin's armor screen.
"Okay, that sounds like a good plan, but how on Earth do you plan on landing the Castle with that monster-thingy on the surface?" Asked Hunk and Pidge appears on Shiro's armor screen.
"You'll need a distraction." Said Pidge suggesting an idea.
"We'll engage the beast in our Lions. With it distracted, Allura and Coran will land the Castle and load all of its citizens." Said Shiro thinking of a plan to help the Balmerans.
"Or we could load Balmerans into our Lions a few at a time and shuttle them to the ship. No engaging ferocious laser-eye guy." Said Lana suggesting an idea. "How long would that take?"
"Days? Weeks?" Said Coran thinking how long it will last.
"We only have hours." Said Keith realizing that it's not enough time to save the Balmerans.
"Look, we don't need to beat this thing. We just need to bait it away from the ship. Provoke and evade." Said Shiro instructing his team.
"Okay, here's the thing. I'm worried that we're going to be really, really good at the provoking part, and then like really bad at the evading part." Said Hunk looking concerned but then looks at his team with determination. "But if this is what it takes to save Shay and everyone on the planet, then I'm in."
"Can you contact the other Balmerans?" Asked Keith turning to Shay.
"I can, but I know not what they'll say. Leave the planet? Our home?" Asked Shay looking sad about leaving their home.
"It's the only option. I'm coming down." Said Allura announcing what she'll do.
"Princess, no! It's too dangerous!" Said Coran rejecting Allura's idea.
"Someone has to be there to lead these people out." Said Allura looking determined.
"You're coming down? That thing will spot your pod and blow it to pieces." Said Pidge speaks to Allura through their video transmission.
"Let me worry about that. You just focus on keeping the creature distracted." Said Allura telling the Paladins.
So the Paladins and the Lions were all about to head back into the Lions mechanical bodies, till the Balmera start shaking and groan in pain, and more cracks began to reveal on the ground, meaning that the Balmera is getting weaker.
The Paladins and the Balmerans we're worried that they may not have time as they thought. But then the Yellow Lion began to stand at the center of the mine shaft and he starts glowing in a bright yellow light, shocking the Balmerans, Shiro, Keith, and Hunk.
Then the Yellow raises his two front paws up and slam them to the ground, releasing a large amount of yellow energy and sending it all over the Balmera. The Balmera suddenly stop groaning and felt a bit relaxed as the cracks and the rumbling stop.
"Woah, Yellow what did you do?" Asked Hunk looking at his lion.
'I gave my quintessence to the Balmera so that way we have time for Allura to board the Balmerans in the Castle of Lions.' Said Yellow looking at Hunk.
'Yellow, that's brilliant.' Said Black smiling at Yellow.
"Hunk, what did your lion do?" Asked Keith looking at Hunk.
"Yellow gave the Balmera his quintessence to heal a bit and to give Allura time to help load the Balmerans to the Castle of Lions." Said Hunk smiling at Yellow.
"Amazing, that way we have enough time to distract the beast while Allura board the Balmerans." Said Shiro smiling at Hunk and the Yellow Lion.
"Good work, Yellow." Said Hunk petting his lion.
'We gotta hurry, I may have giving the Balmera some of my quintessence, but I don't know how long it will last.' Said Yellow looking worried.
"We gotta hurry though, Yellow says he doesn't know how long his quintessence will last on the Balmera." Said Hunk looking at his teammates.
"Then we have to move." Said Shiro to his teammates.
So as the Paladins have enter their Lions, they launch their Lions out from the mine shafts and attack Drazil, enraging the Robeast so it gives chase.
"Okay, we've provoked. Time to evade!" Said Hunk avoiding the blasts.
'Oh I really hope Allura hurried, I don't know how long we could provoked it.' Said Red getting concerned.
'We have to Red, we need to do it for the Balmera's.' Said Yellow encouraging the Lions.
'Yellow's right, let's do what we can do Allura can get to the mine shafts.' Said Black as they all continuing avoiding Drazil's blasts.
Meanwhile at the Castle of Lions, Allura is preparing to launch from a drop-sled to go to the mine shafts of the Balmera to save the Balmerans.
"Princess, we've lured the monster away. It's time." Said Shiro speaking over the communication channel.
"I'll contact you all when I'm on the ground." Said Allura preparing to launch to the Balmera.
"Be careful out there." Said Coran speaking over the Castle intercom.
Allura smiles as she launches from the Castleship and head straight to the mine shaft. Meanwhile as the Paladins distract and fight Drazil, Lana saw Allura head to the mine shaft.
"That's Allura, we gotta protect her so she could reach to the mind shaft!" Said Lana as the others continue to distract Drazil.
However, Drazil spies her from the sky and tries to attack, but Hunk takes the brunt of laser fire with the Yellow Lion, briefly being incapacitated, but the other Paladins manage to distract the Robeast and allow Allura to safely enter the mines of the Balmera.
"I'm on the ground." Said Allura informing the Paladins.
"Hurry! I don't know how long we can hold this thing off." Said Shiro speaking to her over the communication channel.
"Shay, I'm going to need your help." Said Allura running over to Shay and her family.
"Princess?" Said Shay in shock and Allura places her hand on the tunnel wall.
"Have you contacted the other Balmerans?" Asked Allura and Shay along with her family look dejected. "What is it? What's going on?"
"All Balmerans give thanks for the kindness you and the Paladins bestowed upon us, but, alas, we cannot take leave of our home." Said Shay explaining to Allura.
"What?" Asked Allura in shock.
"If our great Balmera's life cycle is over because of us, then our desire is to stay with it until the end." Said Shay as she looks at Allura with a sad look.
"But you'll never survive." Said Allura protesting their suggestion.
"We contacted the others, and all agree. It's not right that you risk your lives for us. Please, away. We ask for no more guilt and shame upon us." Said Rax stating his opinion.
"It is our wish. The wish of all Balmerans." Said Shay as she looks at Allura.
"No. I won't give up on you. I won't give up on any of you, no matter the circumstances." Said Allura with conviction.
"But we do not ask this of you. Please!" Said Shay pleading to Allura.
"I have heard your words. Now let me speak mine." Said Allura turning to Shay's grandmother. "I want to talk to the Balmerans. Can you get a message to them from me?"
"There is no need to speak for you. You have a unique power within. The Balmera will carry your words." Said Shay's Grandmother smiling at Allura.
Allura didn't understand what she meant, till Shay's Grandmother points to Allura's hand on the wall, which is glowing in a blue light, and Allura recoils at the sight at her hand.
"Speak your heart, child. All can hear you." Said Shay's Grandmother smiling at Allura.
Then Shay's Grandmother takes Allura's hand and places it back on the wall as it began to glow brightly blue again. So Allura takes a deep breath as she focuses and speaks aloud, but her words are transmitted to all Balmerans.
Allura: Balmerans, this is Princess Allura. You don't know me, but I am here to help. I know what it's like to watch your home planet die. For I come from planet Altea, a planet that has long been destroyed by the Galra. But I refuse to give up. And now, you all have the same choice. You can decide now to devote your lives to making sure this never happens to another planet. I am eternally sorry for what has happened to the Balmera, but I beg you, do not let its dying be in vain. Honor the Balmera's death by refusing to give up. Join me in my fight against the Galra.
After Allura send out her message to the Balmerans, Shay's Grandmother places her own hand on the wall to hear the response, and smile at Allura.
"Your words have touched our hearts." Said Shay's Grandmother smiling.
"Thank you." Said Allura smiling with teary eyes.
"No, thank you. You've given us reason to hope again." Said Shay's Grandmother as she and the rest of Shay's family smile at her.
"Everyone, head to the caves just under the surface." Said Allura informing the Balmerans.
Meanwhile back at the Castle of Lions, Coran is looking at the map of the Balmera, and saw the Balmerans are moving as instructed with the Castle of Lions's BLIP Tech and prepares to use Allura's location as a landing zone.
"Princess, your speech must have worked. The Balmerans are moving toward the surface!" Said Coran speaking to Allura over the communication channel.
"Coran, we're just beneath the surface. Triangulate my position. This is your landing zone." Said Allura instructing Coran.
"Yes, Allura. Readying ship. Castle of Lions, coming in!" Said Coran as he communicates with the Paladins. "Paladins, how are you holding up?"
"I think we've got him pretty distracted." Said Keith fighting Drazil. "Are the Balmerans in position?"
"They're making their way to the top." Said Allura informing the Paladins.
The Paladins are struggling to handle Drazil but have the Robeast preoccupied while all the Balmerans slowly climb to the surface of the planet. Coran lands the Castle of Lions just outside of a mine shaft and descends in a transport pod to assist the Balmerans gathering at the top of the mine.
"Bring them out! Hurry, now!" Said Coran instructing the Balmerans and Allura.
However, just as Coran arrives and they were about to head into the castle, the Balmera violently rumbles and causes a rock slide, the mine shaft beginning to crumble apart. Thankfully, no Balmerans appear injured, but they are trapped, unable to climb to the surface to reach the Alteans and Shay's family.
"No!" Shouted Allura as the Balmerans are in a panic but not injured.
"It's on the verge of collapsing!" Shouted Coran in a panic. "We have to go!"
"But the Balmerans!" Said Allura not wanting to leave the Balmerans behind.
"They're trapped! What can be done? Time is short!" Asked Rax while carrying his grandmother and the planet began shaking again.
Meanwhile, the Paladins are frantically dodging the laser fire from Drazil, but each blast is hitting the Balmera and damaging it further.
"Every hit weakens the Balmera." Said Hunk informing Allura and Coran. "Have you evacuated yet? What's happening?"
"The Balmerans are trapped. Just keep distracting that beast!" Said Coran speaking over the communication channel.
"Uh, do you want us to distract it by dying?" Said Hunk rebuffing over the situation. "Because that's what's going to happen!"
'Yeah, even if we do keep distracting the beast, will get killed by one of the blasts, and even if we do avoid those blasts, it will hurt the Balmera even more.' Said Yellow agreeing with Hunk.
"Guys, remember when I said we didn't have to beat it?" Asked Shiro communicating with the Paladins.
"Yes, I remember that." Said Hunk remembering what Shiro says.
"Well, we might have to beat it." Said Shiro looking determined.
'Shiro is right, my pride, I know it will be difficult and we might barely make it, but we have to do everything to save the Balmerans, so let's defeat this thing!' Said Black as they all fight Drazil.
Meanwhile back with the Balmerans and the two Alteans, they were all looking over the mine shaft to see the remaining Balmerans still trapped, and Shay looked saddened.
"We're lost! All are trapped with no chance for escape!" Said Shay in despair kneeling down and Allura kneels down to her.
"We can't give up." Said Allura looking determined.
"But what can be done?" Said Shay till she notices the ground glowing in a bright bluish light underneath the Castle of Lions. "The Balmera... The ground beneath your mighty ship appears healed. Its essence thrives. But how?"
"The Castle!" Said Allura looking shock as she looks at the castle.
"Not just the Castle, but you as well." Said Shay's Grandmother seeing Allura kneeling to the ground glowing as well.
"It's true. Your Altean energy combined with the ship's Crystal has revitalized this part of the Balmera." Said Coran looking at Allura.
"That's it! Maybe we can perform the ceremony you spoke about. We can save the Balmera." Said Allura standing up and look at Coran.
"What ceremony?" Asked Rax looking at the two Alteans.
"In the days of old, when Alteans were given the gift of Crystals from a Balmera, we would repay its sacrifice by performing a ceremony. A sacred Altean would re-infuse the Balmera with Quintessence. In this way, we had a symbiotic relationship." Said Coran explaining the Balmerans.
"The Galra have only been taking. It's time we give back." Said Allura going under the Castle where the glowing spot is. "I can connect with the Crystal in the Bridge and use the Castle's power as an amplifier."
"When your father performed the ceremony, it was on a much smaller scale. I beg you. To heal an entire planet, it could take more energy than you possess. You may not. . . Live through it." Said Coran pleasing to Allura.
"I know you're scared for me, Coran, but I must try." Said Allura reasoning with Coran.
So as Allura stands beneath the Castle of Lions, Shay's family surrounds her with their palms against the ground to resonate with the Balmera an the rest of the Balmerans. The Crystal of the Castleship connects with Allura, enveloping her in a beam of light.
Meanwhile, the Paladins continue to flee from Drazil's bombardment of laser fire without landing many damaging hits in.
"Guys, this isn't working." Said Keith in frustration about their situation. "We'll never take this beast down in our Lions."
"Well, forming Voltron didn't work, either." Said Pidge frustrated as well.
"Well, we can't beat this beast with our Lions or forming Voltron, but without some way to shoot all those laser eyes at once." Said Lana pointing out her view.
"Well, what are we going to do?" Said Hunk getting concerned.
'Hunk, I believe it's time for you to use this.' Said the Yellow Lion displaying the keyhole console for Hunk's Bayard.
"That's weird. What are you trying to tell me, Yellow?" Asked Hunk and he summons his Bayard.
'Honestly, I wasn't sure if we are ready to use it, but seeing how bad the situation is, I guess we have no other choice.' Said Yellow urgently telling Hunk to use his bayard.
"Guys! Guys, something's happening here! I think there is a way to take down all those laser eyes at once." Said Hunk telling the other Paladins.
"Well, what is it?" Asked Pidge sounding concerned.
"Do you remember how Voltron formed that sword with Keith's Bayard? I think my Lion's telling me I can do the same thing with my Bayard." Said Hunk telling the other Paladins.
"Are you sure?" Asked Keith to Hunk.
"Let's find out. Form thingy!" Said Hunk as he inserts his Bayard into the keyhole console, but nothing happen. "It didn't work!"
'That's because we didn't form Voltron yet, Hunk.' Said Yellow to his Paladin.
"Oh, right. Yeah, I know." Said Hunk bashfully.
"Guys, whatever we're planning, let's hurry up and do it." Said Pidge noticing the Robeast notices the Castle of Lions and moves in to attack.
"We've got to defend the Castle! Everyone, follow me. Form Voltron!" Shouted Shiro to the Paladins.
So the Paladins form Voltron so they can defend the Castleship. Then the Paladins use the Red Lion's mouth cannon to draw Drazil's attention and stand between it and the Castle of Lions. Then as Drazil charges up a large energy blast to Voltron, Hunk uses his Bayard, which summon a massive shoulder cannon to counterattack the blast. The warriors are largely at a standstill, but Drazil's blast slowly begins overpowering the Paladins and threatens to harm the Castleship.
"It's not enough!" Said Shiro as the blast approaches to them.
"We'll have to try something else!" Said Hunk not giving up.
Then Hunk is able to deflect the blast away from the Castle of Lions. Then Voltron takes flight up at the sky, which draws Drazil's attacks away from the Castleship. Then Hunk's computer shows Voltron has locked on to all of the Robeast's laser eyes.
"Are you guys seeing this?" Said Hunk to the other Paladins.
"Roger that." Said Keith replying to Hunk.
"Let's see what this thing can do." Said Shiro looking determined. "Engage!"
Then the Paladins re-summon the shoulder cannon and it fires not a single blast, but rapid-fire storm of energy bullets that hit every one of Drazil's laser eyes, finally damaging it and rendering it still.
Meanwhile at the Castle of Lions, or more specifically under the Castle of Lions, Allura has had time to prepare the ceremony and kneels upon the ground. As she does, a massive wave of Quintessence spreads across the Balmera, turning its decaying colors into a vibrant and shimmering blue. However, after the Quintessence is absorbed into the Balmera, Drazil suddenly begins attacking Voltron again, not yet defeated.
Voltron is quick to dodge the Robeast's attacks, and Keith delivers a hopefully final blow by punching Drazil with the Red Lion. The Balmerans witness the massive monster flying over the opening of the mine shaft, and it lands in a heap on the other side, powering down. Allura finishes the ceremony and collapses once released from the energy of the Castle of Lions.
"Princess, are you all right?" Said Shay who gathers Allura in her arms, Allura appeared unconscious, but wakes up.
"Did it work?" Asked Allura looking at the Balmerans.
"Yes." Said Rax who has his hand on the ground. "The Balmera lives. It thanks you."
Allura smiles at the Balmerans as the Paladins exit their Lions and arrive to check on her, along with their Lions in their physical appearance, but to everyone's horror, Drazil suddenly re-engages as second time and prepares to destroy the entire group of heroes as they stand exposed.
However this is something the Balmera will not allow, so underfoot where Drazil is, the Crystals begin rising and encasing the savage Robeast along the outside, as well as from the inside-out, disabling Drazil and freezing its body in place.
"No. Way." Said Hunk in shock.
"The Balmera just saved us." Said Coran in amazement.
"Look at the Crystals!" Said Allura in amazement.
Suddenly the crystals begin forming across the surface of the Balmera, showing its health has returned.
"Oh, who's a good Balmera? You are. Who ate the big monster? You did. Yes, you did. Yes, you did." Said Hunk petting the Balmera and Shiro, Keith, and Lana look unamused.
"Dude, what are you doing?" Asked Keith looking at Hunk with a eyebrow raised.
"What? It's alive, and it wuvs my scwatches." Said Hunk and Keith facepalms.
"You know, sometimes you can be weird Honey-Bee, but that's why you're my best friend." Said Lana smiling at Hunk.
After the battle, Hunk sits with Shay atop the Yellow Lion at night, enjoying the view of the Balmera, while the Yellow Lion is still in its physical form, laying next to Hunk and look at the view as well.
"Thank you for honoring your vow to return." Said Shay smiling at Hunk.
"I should be thanking you. You made me understand what's most important." Said Hunk as he look up at the starry night. "Zarkon and his Galra Empire are destroying lives. I'm a part of a team that can change that. I know that, now."
Hunk and Shay smile at each other, then Shay notices the sun rising on the horizon of the Balmera, and she looked shock as she has not seen such a thing before.
"What is that?" Asked Shay seeing the sun rising.
"It's the dawn of a new day." Said Hunk smiling at the sunrise.
'Hunk, why do you go ahead and kiss Shay, I could tell from you that you want to.' Said Yellow smiling at Hunk, causing his Paladin to blush a bit. 'Don't worry, just do a small step, like a kiss on the cheek.'
"Uh Shay, do you mind if I do something?" Asked Hunk looking at Shay with a small blush.
"Sure, what is it Hunk?" Said Shay smiling and Hu k leans in and kiss her cheek, shocking her as she place her hand on the cheek. "What's that?"
"It's called a kiss, it's when someone dies for someone they care." Said Hunk smiling at Shay, and she smiles back at him.
'Good move, Hunk.' Said Yellow smiling at Hunk.
Meanwhile at the Castle of Lions, Keith is leaning against the Castle's engines pillar with the Red Lion sitting next to him, and they both observing the sun rising up from the sky.
"Hey Keith." Said Lana walking to Keith and Red with Blue by her side. "Are you also watching the sunrise?"
"Yeah, to be honest, I've always like to see the sunrise." Said Keith feeling a bit nervous around Lana.
"I know how you feel, Coran told me during sunsets and sunrise, it's the best moments in the Balmera because you could see the true beauty of the planet." Said Lana smiling at the view. "And apparently the right moment will be. . . Now."
As soon as Lana says that, the sunlight began to reflect on the crystals, which cause them to sparkle and shine from the sunlight. Lana smile at the sight of the crystals, along with Blue.
"Wow, Coran is right, it's really beautiful, isn't it?" Asked Lana smiling at the view.
'Yeah, every sunrise and sunset on the Balmera is beautiful.' Said Blue agreeing with Lana.
However Keith and Red weren't really looking at the view of the Balmera or the light at the crystals, instead they both were looking at Lana and Blue as the light reflects on them, showing their true beauty. The light on Lana reflected her skin, her eyes sparkle, even a small gust of wind was blowing through her hair, and the light reflected on Blue's fur, causing it to shimmer like sapphires.
'Yeah, gorgeous.' Thought Keith and Red realizing what they were thinking and blush deeply. 'What am I thinking?!'
"Are you okay Keith, you face is red, much redder like Red's fur?" Asked Lana placing her hand on his face, making Keith blush even redder. "You don't seem sick."
"I'm fine Lana, just a bit exhausted after fighting that beast." Said Keith as he look away a bit.
"I understand that, I guess we're all exhausted, I'll go get my lion inside the castle so we could leave." Said Lana as she and Blue start leaving. "Are you and Red coming?"
"Will be there in a minute." Said Keith looking at Lana.
Lana smiles at Keith, causing his heart to pound a bit, as the Blue Lion and Lana left to get ready to leave the Balmera, and Keith looks at Red.
"Ugh Red, I don't know what's wrong with me, whenever I'm around Lana, I feel a warm sensation inside me and I want to do something more than hang with Lana." Said Keith looking at his Lion.
'I know how you feel Keith, I feel the same way with Blue, like I want us to be more than just teammates.' Said Red understanding his Paladin. 'Anyway, we should get ready to leave the Balmera.'
Keith nodded his head as they both were heading inside the Castle of Lions, but just as they were about to, the Balmera start to make a soft sound and a small bright bluish light glow in the ground, which Keith notice, and suddenly a small crystal, Keith was shock as he picked it up.
"Whoa, why would the Balmera give me this?" Asked Keith looking at the small crystal.
'I don't know, but I think the Balmera might sense how you feel.' Said Red looking at his Paladin.
Keith was confused, but he thanked the Balmera softly as he and the Red Lion head inside the Castle of Lions, but he ever hope that one day he'll express his true feelings towards Lana.
