Chapter Three:

The Hunter's Dream. A safe place for those bound by a Contract of Blood where they can perform maintenance on their equipment in the workshop, restock on their supplies, channel the power of the Dying Wishes of the Blood (or Blood Echoes as they are also known) to strengthen themselves or simply have someone somewhat sane to talk to in the forms of the two primary inhabitants of the Hunter's Dream. The Plain Doll, who was occasionally given a nickname by contracted Hunters who were particularly affectionate to her (even if the Doll pretty much never acknowledges the nicknames), and Gehrman, the First Hunter and the Host of the Hunter's Dream. In most circumstances, the two barely acknowledge each other's existence, unless a Hunter is bound to the Dream.

The arrival of the Great One responsible for creating the Hunter's Dream, the Moon Presence, was however not normal circumstances, which prompted both occupants of the Hunter's Dream to step away from what they were usually doing (which wasn't much in the first place) and greet the Great One descending from the Moon. Unlike the previous times when the Moon Presence made its… presence known, it didn't seem to be alone as it was clearly carrying something in its long lanky arms, somewhat clumsily. Closer inspection revealed that the something in the arms of the Moon Presence was a winged humanoid being that was very clearly just an infant. As the Great One turned its head towards the Doll and somewhat clumsily stretched out its arms in same direction, the Doll repeated the gesture and as a result was able to get a hold of and start cradling the winged humanoid without too much difficulty, even with the aforementioned wings and the Great One's slight clumsiness. Even after the transfer to the Doll's arms, the infant remained asleep.

"That… thing is definitely not human nor a Hunter. What do you expect us to do with it?" Questioned Gehrman, his voice sounding not only tired because of multiple factors, most predominantly age, but also somewhat irritated.

[Irritation] The Moon Presence didn't so much say anything as it was more accurate to say that it projected its thoughts in the vaguest, broadest and (more importantly) comprehensible sense possible.

"Apologies. I was just asking and making an observation."

[Forgiveness]

"Great Flora of the Moon, what are your expectations for us regarding the young one?" Asked the Doll respectfully while unconsciously gently readjusting her grip on the winged baby in her arms.

[Approval, Affection, Protectiveness]

"Show affection and provide for… her?"

[Confirmation]

"I can't believe this. What has my life turned into? Some sort of twisted joke?"

[Irritation]

"Gehrman, I think your best course of action is to simply accept our new task and stop trying to make our patron angry."

"Shut up, Doll."

"Shutting up."

[Amusement]

"Haha, really funny, you oversized bipedal squid."

[Irritation]

"I'm not taking it back." Stated the First Hunter grumpily with a slight growl of irritation in his voice, which somehow made the winged baby in the Doll's arms wake up and start crying. Loudly.

[Uncertainty]

"Hmm hmm hmm, hmm hmm, hmm hmm hmm." Thinking surprisingly quickly (and independently), the Doll started to gently rock the baby in her arms and just as gently started humming what Gehrman was quick to realize was a lullaby. A lullaby that proved to be effective as the baby calmed down and eventually went back to sleep while snuggling closer to the Doll. While Gehrman simply stared at the Doll and baby in disbelief, it was significantly more difficult to tell what the Moon Presence thought due to its lack of conventional facial features.

[Relief, Approval, Smugness]

"Shut up, you overgrown anemone."

[Annoyance]

"Humph, fine. We'll take care of it and maybe even train it. It might be useful for the Hunters."

[Annoyance, Curiosity, Interest]

"Thought you'd be interested."

"Great Flora of the Moon, is it within your capabilities to make the appropriate changes to the Dream to accommodate the young one's presence, growth and training?" Asked the Doll calmly.

[Smugness, Approval] In response to the Doll's question, the Moon Presence made a few rather clumsy attempts before finally succeeding in snapping its fingers, causing the entirety of the Hunter's Dream to metaphorically shake as the building containing the workshop changed and shifted. The most notable change being the inclusion of a second floor with what appeared to have multiple rooms, if the multiple windows were anything to go on.

"May we inspect the changes?" Asked the Doll, apparently picking up on the fact that Gehrman was curious about what the Great One had changed in the Hunter's Dream.

[Agreement]

"Thank you."
