Chapter Four:

While it definitely took quite some time for the older residents of the Hunter's Dream to get used to the newest occupant's presence, they took their responsibilities seriously and with stride. Despite not always being connected or in temporal sync with the Waking World, the Hunter's Dream definitely seemed to be so over the course of the multiple years that passed since Fauna's arrival. While the first few years mostly consisted of the Doll attending to Fauna, Gehrman eventually started training the young Great One in combat. More specifically, combat with a weapon that could be considered a spiritual successor weapon to Gehrman's own weapon, the Burial Blade, and the first weapon that he had personally made in a very long time.

Whereas the Burial Blade consisted of a scimitar and a collapsible staff with a magnet on one end that could combine to form a scythe, Fauna's weapon was considerably more advanced in terms of mechanisms, being a sword that could transform into a scythe by extending its telescopic handle, similarly to the weapon referred to as the Hunter's Axe, causing the sword's blade to tilt ninety degrees via an internal gear mechanism. Which was something that gave the weapon a rather bulky handle/cross guard in order to fit the mechanism inside the handle and minimize exposure. In honor of her teacher and in reference to what kind of sword the weapon was based around, Fauna named her weapon the Funeral Falchion.

While the Funeral Falchion was definitely a weapon that required a lot of skill to wield, much like its predecessor, Fauna proved herself to be more than capable of wielding it with more than just the necessary amount of skill to wield it. Which she demonstrated by giving not only her teacher but also the Doll an impromptu performance that almost appeared to be more like a dance than a series of sword and scythe swings that transitioned into each other rather seamlessly. At the end of her performance, which consisted of a pull with the Funeral Falchion in scythe-mode transitioning into a thrust in sword-mode, she earned herself an applause from the Doll while Gehrman simply grunted in acknowledgement, causing the at-the-time twelve year old Fauna to legitimately pout, even if she did smile with no small amount of pride when the Doll, who Fauna saw as a maternal figure, made her awe known to the winged humanoid Great One.

Another year later, a certain speech that Gehrman and the Doll hadn't heard in years echoed throughout the Hunter's Dream. While Fauna didn't know the importance of the speech, she could understand that it certainly was important and couldn't help but feel some excitement coursing through her veins. It sounded distant but everyone in the Hunter's Dream could hear it clearly.

"Oh, yes... Paleblood... Well, you've come to the right place. Yharnam is the home of blood ministration. You need only unravel its mystery." Echoed the voices of an old man cryptically to whoever he was talking to. "But, where's an outsider like yourself to begin? Easy, with a bit of Yharnam blood of your own... But first, you'll need a Contract…"

"I wonder who you have chosen this time, great Flora of the Moon. May your chosen champion succeed where the previous one failed." Exclaimed the Doll to herself, or possibly to the Moon Presence, somewhat ominously. Her words sounded a lot like a prayer she had likely made more than once, indicated by how she held her hands against her chest. Following her maternal figure's que, Fauna copied the Doll's gesture.

"I see you've found yourself a Hunter, great Flora of the Moon. May they be successful in the Hunt and a worthy comrade for this humble Huntress." Prayed Fauna, drawing a few looks from the other residents in the Hunter's Dream. Gehrman merely snorted in response to Fauna's prayer while the Doll simply turned to the winged humanoid Great One with a fond expression on her face.

"Good. All signed and sealed. Now let's begin the transfusion. Oh, don't you worry. Whatever happens…" Continued the old man's voice to echo through the Hunter's Dream, the Hunter appearing to have finished with the signing of the Contract. "You may think it all a mere bad dream…"
