It was a good day for Quark. Attendance at the bar was up, and every single one of his side ventures were turning solid profits. He looked down as he reviewed his last month's receipts. Everything was there. Con artists, street thieves, the occasional protection racket — times were good. He also noticed the regular withdrawals that his stockroom manager was making. That man probably found it highly amusing to think he was secretly embezzling his employer's money. Quark, of course, knew about it from the start. He didn't do anything to stop him; after all, that man clearly had the lobes for business, and Quark was never one to turn down a potential recruit.

Quark hurriedly hid the padd away as he heard noise near his bar's front door. Actually, make that quite a bit of noise. What was going on? Quark saw one of his newer henchmen, bruised and looking highly embarrassed, being dragged by the back of his shirt into the bar by four young, strangely dressed human girls. One of them, who appeared to be the leader, spoke up.

"Does this belong to you?"

Quark stammered.

"I—I—I've never seen that man before in my life."

"That's funny, because he told us that he delivered the goods he stole to this address."

"What goods?" Quark drew himself up. "I would never deal in stolen property. This is an honest bar."

The girls laughed. "You're lying through your teeth."

"You—You can search the bar. I tell you you'll find nothing!"

"Very well, then."

One of the four girls stayed with the thief, while the other three started to systematically search the bar. Quark was indignant.

"I didn't mean that literally!"

"Oh, shut up."

Soon thereafter, one of the girls opened a cupboard and found a backpack that matched the description of what was taken from that Bajoran man.

"Well, well, well. Look what we have here." She picked the backpack up and walked over to Quark. "How did you gain possession of this?"

"I'm telling you, I never knew it was there!"

"Then if not you, who else could have put it there?"

At that point, Kira and Daniels ran in. "I heard there was a fight down here and…" Her voice trailed off as she saw the four girls.

"Who they hell are they?" Kira asked Daniels.

"I can't say, sir."

Kira studied them. "While I can't see their faces clearly for some reason, they seem to resemble those four young human girls I found at bay fifteen earlier today."

The Lethean started to struggle; one of the four girls whacked him. Kira walked forward.

"OK. Let's start simple. Are you the four ladies that I met earlier today?"

"Yes, we are."

"Then how the hell—"

"It's a very long story, and we have more pressing things to discuss."

"Such as? What happened?"

"We were at lunch, eating with Daniels. We heard this Bajoran man cry out for help. He was robbed, but I could still see the robber in the area. We chased after him; he pulled a knife. We then… transformed… like we do when we get into a fight. The robber was very easy to defeat. He said he had given the stolen goods to Quark. While Quark denied having them, he gave us permission to search the bar—"

"I did not!" shouted Quark. One of the girls glared at him.

"—and we found the Bajoran man's possessions in a cabinet here."

Quark began to complain, but Kira cut him off.

"I've heard enough. Who stole that bag you have?"

"Stole? I beg your pardon!"

"Who stole the bag?"

"One of—One of my employees. I have the bad fortune to employ a number of what you might call shady characters." Kira humphed. "One of them probably did it. Give me time and I can tell you who."

"Yeah, sure," said Kira. "Give me another flunky who'll deny any affiliation with you."

"That doesn't change the fact that it is my right under Bajoran law that you must allow me to conduct this investigation before you can arrest me."

Kira sighed. Quark was right. She also knew that Quark had used this routine to wiggle his way out of charges several times since Odo left. She was getting quite sick of it. There was, however, something she could do. She turned to the Lethean. "You are hereby under arrest. Charges are attacking and robbing a visiting alien."

Kira tapped her badge. "Kira to Security."

A pause. "Security here."

"Send someone up to Quark's. Someone here needs to be put in a holding cell."

"Actually, Officers Nelson and Antares are on their way now."

"Very good. Kira out."

Soon thereafter two men wearing security uniforms entered the bar.

"Him?" one of them asked, pointing to the Lethean.

"Yeah, him."

One of the two officers handcuffed the criminal and dragged him away. The other officer walked with the four girls out of the bar.

"I saw what happened earlier on the security cams. I must say, your fighting skills are top-notch." The girls blushed. "I'm also impressed at your flash-of-light clothing-change routine. Very intimidating."

Makoto at this point laughed. "It's far more than a routine for us, sir."

"Then what, exactly, is it?"

The girls looked at each other. Should they really tell this policeman the secret of their powers? Back home they tried their best to avoid encounters with police officers while in costume. The officer noticed their pause.

"Don't worry. If you want to keep it a secret, that's fine with me."

"Thank you."

"My point is, have you ever considered a career in law enforcement?"

Usagi blinked. "Seriously?"

"Seriously. We've been in need of a constable here for some time. You've already shown your physical prowess, and I'm impressed by anyone who has the gall to confront Quark like you just did. All you'll need is a bit of training on how to conduct an investigation, as well as a primer on our technology. I'd be happy to provide it."

The four were stunned. They had been in this time period for less than a day, and someone was already offering them a job? With the police, no less?

"Can… can we have some time to think about it?"

"Of course. I'm scheduled for front-desk work at the security office for the next few days. Offer is open whenever you're interested."

"Thank you." The four turned to Daniels. "Where would we sleep tonight?"

"Give me an hour and I'll have quarters arranged for all four of you."

That night, the four girls were crowded on the bed in Usagi's room, debating. Daniels had told the four that if someone goes forward in time, they can never go back. They were worried that the Dark Kingdom would run rampant back home without them. But when they studied the history files, looking for any evidence of the Dark Kingdom's activity after their departure, they found nothing. It was if their enemies disappeared the moment they did.

But with that out of the way, Usagi, Makoto, Rei, and Ami had already decided for themselves that they would never want to go back to their old time. Everything was so much… better here. And then there was the fascinating offer for them to work with station security. The group had never considered using their powers in this fashion. They usually fought against the Dark Kingdom, not criminals. But none of them could deny how well they did when fighting that alien with the knife. It also appeared that this Quark is quite a shady character, that someone needs to get a grip on. Everyone else is reluctant to accuse him of misdeeds directly. They most certainly were not.

In the end, they agreed to work with station security. Daniels told them they can do anything they want in the twenty-fourth century, and what they all wanted to do is to keep using their powers, as the four has grown very fond of them. With that, the four went to sleep.
