Hey guys! So, this story has been in my mind for a while-my own take on the Galactic Kids Next Door plot line because, let's be real, every KND both wants it and has their own theories and ideas on how it would go. And since Cartoon Network has been strangely nice to Kids Next Door lately, I felt like it was time to write out how I think it would go. Without further ado, let's begin!
Operation W.A.R
Wars
Are
Ruthless
About ten years ago
"It's over," Was all anyone could think. The Galactic Kids Next Door Civil War, as it had been dubbed by the masses, had finally come to a close with the defeat of Numbuh Aleph Zero. Working together, the members of Sector Alpha, as well as the real Supreme Leader of the Galactic Kids Next Door, Numbuh 4.3 Light Years, had managed to banish Numbuh Aleph Zero, as well as most of his forces, into the unknown regions.
"So…that's it," Numbuh 6 Shot spoke up, his voice giving away just how exhausted he was. The six operatives were all in the hangar of one of the command ships, just trying to recover from the battle they had just fought. Numbuh 6 Shot was the first to speak in a decent amount of time. "It's finally over."
"For now," Numbuh 8 Infinity noted. "Some of Aleph Zero's followers escaped in all that chaos."
"I can't even think about chasing them down," Numbuh 417, who had unceremoniously flopped onto the floor upon exiting her ship, bluntly noted. "Can barely even think straight right now." She then (barely) managed to lift her head up. "Uh, not sure if this is appropriate, but Numbuh 4.3 Light Years?"
"Yes?" The Supreme Leader (who didn't all feel supreme) asked from his own resting place.
"Can you order a mandatory vacation for all of us?" Numbuh 417 asked, doing her best to manage a playful smile. "It's just…I think we all need to relax for like, a full period or something before we can even think about returning to active duty."
"That's not actually the worst idea," Numbuh 4.3 Light Years noted with a weak chuckle. From what he could see, the others didn't dislike the idea either. To put it bluntly, the war they had just fought was beyond taxing on all of them. Six kids (the oldest among them were only about eleven) had just fought to defend everything they'd ever loved from a band of radical nutjobs who believed that adulthood was a literal disease and were ready to wipe out whole planets just to "stop the spread". The war also wound up pitting many of them against those they had believed themselves to be close too. Numbuh 666 in particular had been brutally betrayed by someone he believed to be a friend.
"We could go to my planet!" Numbuh Hang 10 piped up, a bit of his trademark energy back.
"That could be fun," Numbuh 8 Infinity agreed. From what he could see, the other members of Sector Alpha didn't seem to disagree and Numbuh 4.3 Light Years could certainly see why. Hydraxicde, as it was known, was full of beaches, water parks, good food and other beautiful sights for creatures of all ages.
"You sure you don't just want to make out with Numbuh 6 Shot on the beach?" Numbuh 666 finally spoke up. Everyone managed to laugh a bit at the comment.
"Wouldn't mind that," Numbuh 6 Shot admitted, prompting Numbuh Hang 10 to move closer to Numbuh 6 Shot. This caused Numbuh 4.3 Light Years and Numbuh 8 Infinity to move closer as well. From where he sat atop his master's shoulders, Numbuh 1849 made what appeared to be a gagging motion, prompting a few chuckles. "Love you too, pardner."
"So…vacations for everyone?" Numbuh 666 finally clarified.
"I believe so," Numbuh 4.3 Light Years responded with a nod as he looked over his close friends. All of them were tired and scared (literally in several cases), but he could still see they were the friends who he had begun the war with. He wasn't sure when he opened his arms, but he did know that soon, after, they were filled with his friends. Just for that moment, that one hug, they all forgot anything other than each other, laughing and crying all the same. They knew it wouldn't last forever as, even with the idea of a vacation, they would still have to hunt down the remains of Aleph Zero's forces. But just for now, they could pretend that everything was over.
Present Day
"Er, Prince Leongar? We need you on the bridge," His comlink buzzed in his ear. With a groan, Prince Leongar Celestar pulled himself away from the book he'd been reading. He'd been fond of books and this one read happened to be quite interesting and it was also helping with keeping his mind off the reality of why he was out in space. Although the original, benevolent Galactic Kids Next Door had agreed to disband following the civil war ten years ago, Numbuh Aleph Zero's renegade version had been popping up quite a bit more. Supposedly, they had been gathering up more operatives and power. While they were mainly focusing on planets that hadn't been involved in the Civil War all those years ago, there were reports of operatives from planets that had fought in the war being present among the ranks. This left Leongar worried. The war had caused damage that was still being repaired to this day, so another one would be devastating.
"I'm on my way," He replied as he stood up, stretching as he did so. The reason he was out in space was because, as prince of his home planet of Nevolla, he felt a duty to hunt down the remnants and stop them from hurting anyone else, on top of his former position as Supreme Leader. Considering what he had done, the idea of decommissioning him was pretty much off the table, meaning that while he wasn't an active member anymore, he was still considered a member of his home planet's Kids Next Door.
"Hey handsome," A soothing voice greeted him. Leongar couldn't stop a smile from coming to his face as his girlfriend's silk like wings wrapped around home. Numbuh 8 Infinity, now more commonly known as Octavia Spestrio, had remained with Leongar for the most part, considering that she came from something of a broken family. She had only joined the Kids Next Door as an escape, but somewhere along the way, became a devoted and noble operative. Traits that, along with her kind nature, drew Leongar straight to her. She always knew what to say to perk him up if work got too stressful. Needless to say, it didn't take long for them to start dating once they were old enough to actually understand the full concept and scope.
"How do you always know when I need you?" Leongar asked with a grin as the duo went in for a kiss.
"Girlfriend sense?" Octavia offered before cringing. "That was so bad, I'm so sorry,"
"I thought it was cute," Leongar replied softly, almost instantly causing Octavia to begin blushing, much to his glee. She was adorable when she was all blushy and let her guard down.
"Um, sir and ma'am?" One of the crew on the deck spoke up, reminding the royal couple where they were.
"Apologies," Octavia said in an embarrassed tone as she almost shoved Leongar off her, causing the prince to stumble a little. "Why did you call us?"
"We discovered a Galactic Kids Next Door transport ship early this morning," The crew member reported, leading his two captains to a terminal. From what Leongar and Octavia could see, the ship was actually fairly close. "Should we engage?"
"Indeed," Leongar responded as he made his way over to the captain's chair. Octavia made her way to stand at his side. The crew had done this many times before-attempt to arrange a peaceful surrender, then began boarding if the offer was refused, which it usually was.
"Sir, they're in range," Another crew member reported. Taking a deep breath, Leongar tapped on the communications button on his chair.
"Unidentified vessel, report yourselves," He ordered as he watched the ship come into range. He knew what it was already, but pirates would sometimes have ramshackle boats as well and so he wanted to know what mindset to get himself into.
"We don't identify ourselves to adults," The voice on the other line sneered, which was followed by chuckling in the background. Leongar had a feeling his ship was cloaked, otherwise, they wouldn't have been so cocky.
"Very well, then," Leongar replied. "My name is Prince Leongar Celestar, formerly Galactic Kids Next Door Supreme Leader Numbuh 4.3 Light Years. I am already well aware you are a member of the group that now uses that name. As such, I'm giving you a chance to surrender yourselves now. Otherwise, you will be boarded and arrested for galactic terrorism." Octavia then held up a wing, which the crew took as a cue to come out of cloaking. He could hear the panic on the other line.
"You're going down, adult traitor!" The voice on the other line declared as the ship attempted to go into an invasive maneuver.
Attempted being the key word.
Almost as soon as the other line began speaking again did the crew activate a tracker beam, which held the ship in place. More panic and screams could be heard as the crew of the much smaller vessel desperately attempted to flee, only to short out their engines trying. Leongar chuckled. Their overconfidence in defeating adults as well as their own technology did make them easier to beat.
"Bring them into the hanger," He ordered as he stood up. Leongar was not one to sit back and let others deal with danger. He considered it to be the mark of a poor leader. He walked briskly towards the hanger, only stopping in the armory to collect his signature weapon-a poleaxe that had been passed down in his family for generations. Looking over, he saw that Octavia was now wearing a pair of gauntlets crafted especially for her by Numbuh 666. The other crew members went for the more practical (for them at least) option of laser blasters, which could easily be used to stun the operatives, as while the members of the Galactic Kids Next Door were terrorists, they were also still kids as well.
"Seems like they're trying to hunker down in the ship," Octavia noted once they arrived at the hangar. Indeed, no operatives were trying to make their way further into the ship and all doors on their own ship had been tightly sealed.
"Hard way it is," Leongar noted with a sigh. Children really could be stubborn. Either way, he set it on the door and moved back. Soon, what was once a metal door was now an empty hole. The Galactic Kids Next Door were quick to begin shooting, but between panic and the smoke caused by the explosion, no one was hit outside of a few grazing shots. Leongar was quick to rush forward, using his weapon to cleave through one operative's own weapon before slamming him into a wall. Behind him, Octavia used her wings to create a powerful gust of wind, blowing several more operatives down. And any that the couple missed were swiftly stunned and knocked out.
"Bring them to holding cells for interrogation," Octavia ordered, beating Leongar to the punch. It didn't really matter who gave the order, considering that they both held the same rank. The grunts did as they were told, picking all the operatives up and hurrying to the cells before they woke up. This left Octavia and Leongar alone to search the ship.
"Just what were you transporting…?" Leongar asked himself. From what he could see, there wasn't a lot of room to actually store stuff. Sure, kids were masters at cramming things into small spaces, but considering that they had to move around, leaving the walkways open on a spaceship was highly important. Finally, he and Octavia found a room filled with a few decent sized chests. Opening one up, Leongar found what he was fairly sure were weapons.
"Rather…crude," Octavia noted as she held up what appeared to be two boards fastened together with a magnet and some tape. Upon pulling the trigger, both Octavia and Leongar were startled by the loud cracking noise from the board being launched forward. "Crude and effective."
"Hey, you know what Witherton likes to say," Leongar noted as he fiddled with a strange sign that appeared to be made from a signpost and a boxing glove. "Never underestimate the power of just hitting someone with a 2x4." Octavia chuckled at that but before the conversation could continue, one of the other crates suddenly jumped, startling both operatives. "Were…were they transporting prisoners!?"
"Let's find out," Octavia said, still getting herself ready for battle just in case it was some weird monster. With a nod, Leongar slowly inched towards the moving crates. Using his poleaxe, he sliced the lock clean off. Almost instantly, the crate tipped over and sent the two beings behind held inside straight to the floor with a grunt. Looking for them, both Leongar and Octavia were shocked to note that they were extremely young, pretty much kids themselves. Both were clearly older kids, but they were still under thirteen if not by much. Finally, once they regained their bearings, they looked up at the two beings looking down on them and both groups stayed silent, not sure what to say. Finally, what seemed to be a young girl spoke up.
"Er…hi?"
And with that, it has begun. Hope you don't mind meeting two of my OCs before most of the canon cast, but I promise that most of them are coming.
