Well, I'm about to be in the middle of a cat 4 hurricane, so I figured I should update before I lose internet and can't for a few days. Hope you like the chapter, PLEASE review! I don't know if you like the story or not unless you review!
Back in medbay, Robin stirred in the bed. Mallory got up to check his vitals. All were steady. He groaned and looked around.
"What happened?" he asked.
"You got caught," she told him.
He sat up and stretched. "Oh, I remember. I was in Kobra's chambers and your guy Cas walked in with some goons. Hey, how's Wally? He came in and tried to help me out, but they took him out pretty quick."
"He's fine. We were worried about you, though. You weren't breathing."
He shrugged. "They came at me right after I found Kobra's plan. I figured they were going to kill me, so I took a pill that slowed my systems down. I wasn't counting on KF being there, though."
"What was his plan?" Mallory asked curiously.
"He was going to turn the sun red so that the League wouldn't have Superman to stop him, then he was going to bomb all the major cities of the world."
"Can they do that? Turn the sun red?" Mallory asked.
"No, not alone. That's what he needed the goddess for. Legend says she had the power to change what was set in stone."
Mallory nodded and allowed herself some relief that she'd been strong enough to keep the goddess out of her body. Robin got up and started pulling the wires off.
"You should wait for someone to clear you," she said, but she knew he wouldn't listen. Sure enough, he pulled on a sweatshirt and switched the cobra mask for his usual domino one. It was a familiar sight, him in the same old domino mask, the same grin underneath. She took a breath and pulled him into a hug. He tensed in surprise.
"What?" he asked.
She let him go and looked away, tears pricking behind her eyes. "I thought you were dead," she said quietly. "I know that we take risks here, and that it's always a possibility, but..."
He nodded. "Sorry," he murmured.
Mallory laughed, blinking away the tears. "Yeah, don't scare me like that again. Can you imagine what team ups would be like for me and Wally if you weren't there?"
Robin chuckled. "Yeah, that wouldn't work out well for him." A moment of silence passed between them, then Robin grabbed his kobra robe off a chair and pulled out his utility belt.
"What? How did you manage to bring your belt into the cult of the kobra?" Mallory asked with an amazed smile.
He shrugged. "Never leave home without it. I know how to keep it hidden." He reached into one of the compartments and pulled out a small box. "I found this while I was searching through the base. I figured you'd want it back."
He handed it to her and Mallory opened it hopefully. Sure enough, her little glass figure was nestled safely inside, not a scratch on it. "Oh, Robin, thank you so much," she said quietly. She immediately put it on and rubbed the figure between her fingers reassuringly. She'd thought it was gone for good when the attendant had made her give it up for disposal.
"I'm surprised I found it in all the junk they had in that room. I don't think Kobra actually gets rid of anything, he just hoards it in this big warehouse near his chambers."
Mallory chuckled and walked over to the door. "You stay here. We've been taking turns sitting in here, and I don't want Batman to find out that I let you go without telling him that you woke up."
Robin nodded and sat back down on the bed and Mallory left the room. On the way to the mission room, she ran into Wally, who seemed to be waiting for her.
"Robin woke up," she said. He nodded, but didn't say anything. Something was bothering him, she could tell, but she wasn't sure what. "I guess we should've known he couldn't die, stubborn as he is," she said with a huff.
"Are you seriously making jokes right now?" Wally asked with a glare so intense it caught her off guard and shook her to her core.
"What's going on?" she asked, honestly perplexed, "we won, and you even got Kobra's robe for a souvenir."
"No. You don't get to try to make me feel better. You allowed yourself to be singled out for some insane possession ritual, then let someone beat you up for three days, then didn't escape when you and Zatanna had the chance, and went through with the ritual when you could have gotten out of the restraints any time you wanted. You and Rob are so focused on being the ones to make the sacrifice that you don't stop to think what it would do to the team if something did happen to you."
Mallory stared at him. She felt like she should say something, but nothing came to mind. After a moment, she just continued down the hall to let Batman know Robin was awake.
I would love for my internet to come back on and have at least three reviews on the story. Just saying :)
