Chapter 19 Tom Gray
Rui's POV
I was at the CENTER THEATRE, when Asahi walked up to me.
"Greetings, Asahi-Kun", I greeted.
"Hello, Rui", Asahi greeted. "I'm glad that you're here. There's somebody who wants to meet you."
With that, somebody suddenly walked in…and seeing them took me by surprise.
"Rui", Asahi started. "I believe that you know of Tom Gray?"
"I do", I replied, before bowing down. "It's an honour to meet you, Mr Gray. I am a big fan of your work."
"Thank you very much, Mr Kamishiro", Tom said. "I saw your show the other day, and I was very impressed."
"You were", I asked in shock.
"I was", Tom replied. "You did such an amazing job taking Asahi's real life journey and turning it into a stage show."
"Hearing that from you is such an honour, Mr Gray", I said.
"I'm glad", Tom said. "Now then, there's actually something else that I wanted to ask you."
"Of course", I replied. "What is it?"
"Mr Kamishiro", Tom started. "I am interested in taking your stage show about Asahi's life journey, and turning it into a film."
Hearing this took me by surprise.
"You want to make a film based on my stage play", I asked in shock.
"Yes", Tom replied. "Asahi's story is one that is very inspiring. I want to make it into a film so that as many people as possible can see it. I want to show them that, no matter how bleak the situation may be, there is always hope that things can get better."
"How do you feel about this, Asahi", I asked.
"I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for Mr Gray", Asahi stated. "I'm honoured that he wants to turn my life story into a film that can inspire hope in others."
"So", Tom started. "What do you say, Mr Kamishiro? Would you be okay with me turning your stage play into a film?"
"Of course", I replied happily. "I would be so honoured!"
"I'm glad", Tom replied. "And, there's actually one more thing that I want to ask you."
"What is it", I asked.
"I was wondering…if you would be interested in becoming my first assistant director for this film?"
I was once again taken by surprise by these words.
"You want me to be your first assistant director", I asked in shock.
"But of course", Tom replied. "After all, the film will be based on your stage play. You being my assistant director will help ensure that the feelings the show evokes in the audience will translate over to the film. So, what do you say?"
Am I dreaming? This almost feels too good to be true.
"Before you make your final decision Rui, please keep this in mind", Asahi started. "If you decide to accept this job, you'll probably have to take a break from your work as the CENTER THEATRE's director."
"Oh", I said. "Yes. That is true."
"But on the other hand", Asahi started. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity."
"There's no rush", Tom reassured. "Mr Kamishiro, please take your time deciding what to do."
