Chapter 45 Spending New Year's with You
Saki's POV
Our trip in Okinawa had ended, and Toya and I were now on the ferry that would take us home.
We were in our room, when an announcement suddenly came from a speaker.
"Can I please have everyone's attention? This is your captain speaking. There appears to be some stormy weather up ahead. For the sake of our passengers safety, we will have to change our route in order to avoid it. However, this means that it will take us longer than expected to arrive at the mainland."
"Huh", I said in shock. "It's gonna take us longer to get back to the mainland? How much longer?"
"We can't say for sure how much longer it will take us to reach the mainland", the captain revealed. "However, it will most likely be only after the new year has already passed."
Hearing this news made me sad.
"I apologize for the inconvenience", the captain said. "I hope that you all understand, and please enjoy the rest of your trip."
With that, the captain ended his announcement…and I looked down sadly.
"Are you okay, Saki", Toya started in concern.
"No, Toya", I exclaimed, as tears started falling from my eyes. "I'm not okay! I'm…I'm not going to be able to spend New Years Eve with my friends!"
With this, I put my face in my hands and began to cry even more.
A moment later, Toya pulled me into his arms.
"There, there", he soothed as he rubbed my back. "It's okay, Saki."
"I'm sorry I snapped at you", I apologized as I pulled away from Toya slightly.
"There's no need to apologize, Saki", he reassured. "I know how much your friends mean to you."
After Toya said this, he placed his hand on my cheek.
"But there's nothing we can do about this", he added. "So, instead of being sad, let's try our best to make the most of it with what we have."
After Toya said this, I wiped away my tears with my sleeve.
Then, I gave him a weak smile.
"Thank you, Toya-Kun", I said, before a bigger smile came to my face. "You're right! Even if we're stuck on this ferry, we can still have a super fun New Year's together!"

It was New Years Eve, and Toya and I were waiting for midnight in our room.
"I can't believe that the year is almost over", I said.
"I agree", Toya said. "Time goes by so quickly."
"A lot happened this year, didn't it", I asked.
"Yes", Toya replied. "Vivid BAD SQUAD finally surpassed RAD WEEKEND."
"Leo/need released their first album", I added. "And we even got to go on tour!"
After I said this, Toya suddenly grabbed onto my hand, and smiled at me.
"And", he started. "I married the woman I loved."
After Toya said this, a huge smile came to my face.
Then, I leaned in to kiss him, but before I could…an alarm on my phone went off.
I looked at it…and smile when I saw the time.
"It's midnight", I said, before smiling at Toya. "Happy new year, Toya-Kun!"
"Happy new year, Saki."
