Chapter 47 Worth it in The End
An's POV
I was walking down Vivid Street with Akito…when we suddenly heard a sound.
"Did you hear that", he asked as we suddenly stopped walking.
"I did", I replied. "It sounds like…meowing? Could it be…"
With this, I rushed into the alley where the sound was coming from.
Once I reached the end of the alley, I listened closely, and realized that the sound was coming from behind a big trash can.
I went to that area, and when I did…I spotted a very familiar feline.
"Vivi", I exclaimed happily.
"The cat that hangs around Vivid Street", Akito asked.
"Yeah", I replied. "I haven't seen her in months! I was worried that something happened to her."
With that, I kneeled down besides Vivi.
"Hey there, girl", I greeted. "Where have you be…"
As I was talking, I suddenly stopped when I got a closer look at Vivi.
"What's wrong", Akito asked in concern.
"Nothing's wrong", I replied. "But, I think I've figured out why I haven't seen Vivi in months."
"Which is", Akito asked.
"Well", I started. "Let's just say that Vivi and I share something in common."
With that, I carefully picked up Vivi. Then, I turned her around…so that Akito could see her swollen belly.
"She's…pregnant", he asked in shock.
"Yep", I replied. "She's probably been laying low for the last few months. That's why I haven't seen her."
"I see", Akito said. "So, what are you gonna do now?"
"Well", I started. "We can't just leave her here! It's way too cold! Let's take her back to Weekend Garage."
…
Akito and I had arrived at Weekend Garage.
"An-Chan", Kohane greeted before walking up to us. "Shinonome-Kun."
"Shiraishi-San", Toya started when he saw what I was holding. "Is that…a cat?"
"Wait a minute", Kohane started in realization. "Is that…Vivi?"
"And is she…pregnant", Toya asked.
"Yep", I replied. "Dad, can Vivi stay here in the café?"
Before my dad could answer…Vivi started meowing very loudly.
"What's wrong, Vivi", I asked in concern.
"Let me have a look, An", a person who was a vet requested.
Then, I gave Vivi to him, and he took a closer look at her.
"Oh dear", he said.
"What's wrong", I asked in concern.
"I think the reason why Vivi is meowing like this…is because she's about to give birth."
"What", I exclaimed in shock. "Like, right now?!"
"Yes", the vet replied. "I'm sorry, Ken-San, but are you okay with a cat giving birth in your café?"
"Can't you take her to the vet", my dad asked.
"I'm afraid that there's no time", the vet replied.
"Then I guess there's no choice", my dad replied.
"Thank you", the vet said. "Do you have any blankets?"
…
Everybody in the café was watching Vivi as we waited for her to give birth.
As I watched her in pain…I began getting nauseous.
Then…I quickly ran to a nearby bin and threw up!
"An", Akito exclaimed.
Then, he ran to my side and rubbed my back until I was done throwing up.
"Are you okay, An-Chan", Kohane asked in concern.
"Giving birth…looks very painful", I breathed out. "How the hell am I going to do that?!"
"You're right, An", the vet said. "Giving birth can be very painful."
"Hey", Akito exclaimed angrily.
"But", the vet added. "What you get at the end makes it all worth it."
After the vet said this…I suddenly heard some very soft meowing.
I went closer to Vivi, and when I did…I saw her cleaning off a newborn kitten.
When I saw this…a smile came to my face as I began to get emotional.
"See", the vet asked. "It's all worth it in the end, isn't it?"
"Yeah", I replied, before putting my hand on my stomach.
Then, Akito hugged me from behind.
"I agree", he added. "Plus, I'll be right by your side when the time comes."
"I'll be there too, An-Chan", Kohane exclaimed.
"And so will I, Shiraishi-San", Toya added.
"You guys", I said as tears started forming in my eyes.
Then, I smiled.
"I really do have the best teammates ever!"
