Red, the world was painted a brilliant red.
Jaune Arc still couldn't believe that there was a forest where Fall never stopped, but as he looked around to the red leaves that sprouted from branches and covered the ground, he had to admit that the Forever Fall forest lived upto its name. For hours he's been walking the path that an old man had recommended to him, it was situated in between a few towns and villages, so Grimm hardly made it here, with nothing else to do besides walking, he let himself be distracted by the stunning view.
It was only after stepping on a twig that snapped harshly, did he notice how quiet it truly was. It would be a lie to say that it didn't unnerve him, since he's stepped foot into the forest he has heard various sounds, such as birds or squirrels, he even heard the sounds of a train passing by, but now everything was dead silent. His heartbeat pulsed in his ears.
A light breeze carried fallen leaves away and rustled a few branches, more leaves fell and hit the ground, the bare minimum of sounds returned and Jaune relaxed, he continued walking, and decided to hum a campfire song to keep himself busy.
His little tune ended as soon as he came upon a sight that he wished he would never see, a dead body. The body laid limp, bloodied and tattered, their clothes and flesh torn and burned. Jaune walked closer, to utter a prayer for this unfortunate soul, but his mind was elsewhere, he needed to know how they had died, he needed to know what led to their death, their wounds were various, and he had to know if this person was murdered by bandits or killed by Grimm, a closer examination would answer his questions. He held back the urge to vomit from the sickening stench of charred flesh and stood over the corpse.
Up close now Jaune could tell that this person was a man with red hair and black bull horns, he was dressed in black pants and a black jacket stained scarlet with blood and a red shirt burnt black, he was also wearing a white mask with red markings that covered his eyes and nose. On his waist was a sheath and in his hand a blade, he was a fighter. His body was littered in scratches made by a thin blade, and small patches of his flesh were missing as if blown away, but covering most of his body were burns, his left arm was burnt off at the elbow and a large hole surrounded by cauterized flesh sat at the center of his stomach.
"May you find rest and peace in the next life." Jaune whispered. He now knew that this man was murdered, there was no way for a Grimm to use fire to make a hole that big, and he was pretty sure that was the fatal wound. Done examining the man, he looked around, hoping to find a trail. He needed to know where not to go so he could avoid whoever did such a cruel thing to this man. He saw what he assumed to be disheveled leaves, but in this forest it was hard to notice. He took a single step away from the body when he froze.
The sound of leaves crunching was his only warning, before a sharp pain exploded from his back and chest.
An indescribable feeling flooded his veins and ran over his nerves.
Jaune looked down towards his chest, a glowing red line was sticking out from his chest-plate.
He tried to gasp and his lungs screamed in pain, he couldn't breathe.
A scattershot of crimson leaves flew past him, against the wind.
The wind died down and the forest went silent once again, but now he couldn't hear his heartbeat.
'I'm dead.' Was Jaune Arc's final realization before his vision faded away and his brain couldn't process information anymore.
Red, the world was stained a vibrant red.
Adam Taurus couldn't believe his eyes, but as he looked around to the red leaves that hung from the branches and coated the ground in layers, he had to accept that he was still in the Forever Fall forest, that he was still alive. He didn't know how, but that wasn't important.
Now accepting reality, he noticed that he could see too much, that he was missing his mask.
'When did it fall off?' He wondered, he hoped it wasn't during the fight or early on in his retreat, he needed that mask to conceal what happened to him. If people saw that, how would they be able to follow him knowing he was marked by those bastards?
As he looked around by his feet, he noticed that something else was wrong, he wasn't wearing his outfit, but before he could question it, he came upon a sight he couldn't believe.
A dead body laid limp, bloodied and tattered, their clothes and flesh torn and burned.
A large hole in the stomach that had incinerated his insides, but he was whole now.
Missing the left arm he had lost, but he had two hands now.
A body covered in scratches and burns caused by his fight, but he was unharmed now.
On the waist of the body rested Blush, his scabbard and gun, but he was carrying a different sheath now.
In the hand of the body, Wilt, his sword remained clutched, but he was carrying a different sword now.
The body was dressed in Adam's clothes, stained and burnt from his fight, but he was wearing different clothes now.
Adam's mask rested on the body's face, just below black bull horns and red hair.
He reached down and removed the mask, he saw a left eye branded with the letters 'SDC' over it, he saw his face.
He couldn't comprehend what he was seeing, a dead body identical to his appearance, dressed in his clothes and covered in his wounds.
Adam Taurus couldn't believe his eyes, but as he looked at the body from the appearance to the wounds, he had to accept, he had to admit, he had to realize reality.
'I'm dead.' He realized as he stood up and staggered away from his corpse. He brought his hand up in front of him and examined his body. 'I'm alive.' His hand was still holding his mask, and he realized he was wearing fingerless leather gloves. On his arms were detached orange sleeves, on his shoulders and chest was armor, underneath the armor was a black hoodie. He was wearing blue jeans and a pair of black shoes. With his gaze downwards, he noticed locks of blond hair hanging just above his right eye. 'This isn't my body.' He knew that. His body was just a corpse now, and he was inside someone else's body.
Adam flexed his fingers, he was moving the body with no issues. He tried to call upon his Aura, only now realizing he couldn't feel it over his skin. It burned. It felt like fire was crawling through his bones. He struggled, but it wouldn't appear, it was stuck in the depths of his new body, but he didn't stop, he pulled and pulled, until something snapped.
Aura flooded forth, a brilliant red and a vibrant white.
Jaune Arc felt his bones burn as he snapped awake. A wave of dizziness crashed his mind like a hammer, his legs fell out from beneath him causing him to fall on his ass.
'I'm alive.' Was his first thought, he quickly looked at his chest and didn't see a glowing red line sticking out from his chest-plate. 'Was it a dream?' He wondered as he looked around, he saw the dead body and recalled everything that happened, he had found the body, examined it, said a prayer, took a step, then he heard leaves crunch, he had felt pain and numbness, saw something in his chest, couldn't scream, saw leaves and… died.
In the next second he fell over. 'Did I black out and have a vivid nightmare? Why?'
Jaune stood up and wiped away the leaves that stuck to his body. 'Just forget about it, it's not important.' He tried to convince himself as he prepared to leave. Before he could take a step, the bone white mask on the ground caught his attention. It was the same one the dead body should be wearing, as Jaune bent over and picked it up, he felt a stiffness in his muscles and joints. Holding the mask, for some reason he couldn't understand, he placed it over his eyes.
Something rippled over his skin and seeped into the mask, affixing it to his face, and then Jaune couldn't move.
"What's happening?" His mouth growled, but he didn't say that.
"What's happening?" He repeated the question in his mind.
Adam Taurus felt his soul burn as he jolted awake. A wave of dizziness impacted his mind like a punch, his legs felt weak and he stumbled trying to stay upright. "What's happening?" He growled.
"What's happening?" A voice echoed inside his head.
He leaned against a tree, determined to wait out the dizziness. 'Deep breaths Adam, calm-'
"Who's Adam?" The voice interrupted.
'I am… talking to myself, great.' He shook his head and refocused on breathing.
"I'm talking to myself? Then who's Adam?" The voice interrupted again.
'Shut up.' He hissed to himself.
Jaune felt his mouth move to talk, but he couldn't control it, and for some reason he called himself Adam.
"Why am I disconnected from my body?" He wondered.
He felt his body freeze and his breathing hitch. 'What did you say?' His body asked.
"Am I actually having a conversation by myself?"
He could feel his body's pulse increase. 'Who are you?' His body asked.
"I'm me, you know, Jaune Arc! Short, sweet, rolls off the tongue - ladies love it!"
A second passed before his body reacted.
'Fuck.' His body thought.
"Fuck!" Adam repeated his thoughts into the world and punched a nearby tree, his fist made a crater in the thick bark, wood chips shot out and a vicious sap clung to his fist. "Fuck!"
"Whoa! What was that? How did I do that? Do I have superpowers?"
"Shut up!" He spat out. 'Wonderful! Just wonderful! Dying wasn't enough to satisfy the Gods, now I'm stuck with an idiot inside my body.' He mentaly reviewed his situation.
"I didn't die, and this is my body, why would you…" The voice trailed off. "You aren't me, are you? Y-you're that dead man! Oh shit, oh shit."
"Shut up!" He rubbed his temple with his hands.
"HELP! SOMEONE HELP ME! I'M BEING POSSESSED! HELP!"
'SHUT UP!'
"THERE'S A GHOST INSIDE MY BODY! HELP! HELP!"
He felt like pounding his head against a tree to silence the screams that made his skull ring, he also felt an unbearable itch on his hand and near his temple. As he glanced at his hand, he saw that it was still covered in sap, he could also see a rash forming along his hand and wrist. 'How severe is your sap allergy?'
The sudden unrelated question caught Jaune off guard, but he answered it for no reason. "I don't think I have a sap allergy, why do you ask?"
The ghost inside his body made it shake. "Can you see this?" It asked as it brought his rash covered arm right up to his eyes.
Now that he could see it, he could feel a big itch on his hand, it bothered him immensely. He tried scratching it. Through his eyes, he could see his other hand reach up and scraped at his skin.
"Stop that!"
"Did I do that?" He wondered.
He felt his body freeze again, but only for an instant. 'No, I did.' It answered calmly.
He ignored his body's answer and tried scratching again, he felt his arm tremble but it didn't budge.
"Stop that and answer me, is anyone in your family deathly allergic to sap?"
"l don't know." He answered honestly. Now that he managed to move an arm once, he began to wonder what else he was capable of. Looking through his eyes, he realized just how far he was from his sight, he didn't notice sooner because of the mask, but there was a gap between what he could see and what his body saw. He turned his gaze away from his body's sight and examined himself, or he tried to, but found nothing, he would turn until he came back across his sight.
Trying to remember how he moved his arm, brought him to think about how he normally moved, with just a thought, but now he needed more. The sensation of his body was far away, so he just needed to get closer.
Adam knew something was wrong as soon as the voice of this body's original inhabitant went quiet, he felt something crawl around inside his mind, then down his bones. As the feeling grew, he noticed streaks of white swim out his skin for a moment before diving back down under the skin, he realized that his Aura was being pushed around. He could feel this person's, Jaune's, Aura surge forth and drowning out his own.
"You can stop now."
Jaune heard a voice speak inside his head and he opened his eyes, he was back in control. He took a step forward, and then another. "Yes!" He shouted to the skies, his moment of cheer was interrupted by the itching sensation that engulfed his hand and was beginning on his temple. He bent forward and buried his hand into his hoodie in a feeble attempt to suffocate the itch. "Shit, that stings." He whispered. Bent over, he once again saw the bone white mask laying on the ground. It brought his attention back to the other matter. 'So… You're still here.' He said internally.
"Haaah, it appears so." The ghost that had been possessing him, sighed somehow and answered.
'Your name is Adam, right?'
"And you're Jaune Arc."
'H-hey just forget about the rest of my introduction, okay? That's uh, um, just forget it!' He was embarrassed to have introduced himself to a ghost like that, he was regretting ever saying that line. While avoiding the eye contact of someone who wasn't there, he saw the dead man once more. "That's, uh, you?"
"Yes."
"Oh." He had never expected to be talking to the ghost of someone whose dead body was just in front of him, brutally mangled. "I, uh, said a prayer." He turned away from the body and was prepared to walk away when the pieces finally fell together. "Holy shit! You stabbed me!" He shouted as he spun on his heel and looked at the sword held by the corpse.
"What? No I didn't!" Adam retorted back with indignation.
"Yes you did." Jaune said as he found a thin slit in his armor. "Right here." He trailed a finger down the slit and felt blood, he realized something else. He bent his arms at an odd angle to search his back, then he found another thin slit in his armor. "You- you stabbed straight through my armor, and- and pierced my heart and a lung." He suddenly recalled the rest of the event. "You killed me."
He vividly remembered dying, the scene flashed through his mind, then a sudden headache formed, as memories not his own unfolded.
A broken body stood up and lunged forward, a sword swimming through metal and flesh, the transference of everything that remained.
"Oh, guess I did do that." Adam admitted to committing a murder calmly.
In case it wasn't clear.
"Outside Speaking."
'Thinking.'
"Internal Speaking."
