Sorry it's so short, but I hope you like it, please review!
Two days later, Dick brought Batgirl and Robin to the cave to introduce them to the team. Mallory had told the old team that they were coming, so she, Zatanna, and Rocket were in the living room when the zeta tube announced their arrival.
"Hey, kid. How's it going?" Mallory asked, smiling at Tim.
He narrowed his eyes a little, studying her black hair, shorts, and shirt. "Why aren't you in your costume?" he asked.
Mallory shrugged. "Cause I'm in my own house, and you already know who I am, so I assume that Batgirl knows too," she explained, her gaze shifting to the redhead standing on Dick's other side.
Batgirl smiled at the three Leaguers. "It's great to finally meet you," she said.
Raquel nodded. "You too. How long have you been stepping out?"
"About a year. I try to stay out of the spotlight, though. There are people that know me in high places, so I don't want to take a chance that they'll recognize me."
Mallory nodded. "Yeah, I used to do the same thing," she said.
"Ok, well, we're gonna go find the team. You want to stick around for a while? I'm gonna have them run a simulation to get used to each other," Dick said.
Mallory exchanged a look with the others, and Zatanna shrugged and said, "sure." The group went into the training room and Dick called the team. A few minutes later, everyone was standing in a line in front of him in civies.
"Guys, this is Robin and Batgirl. They're joining the team," Nightwing announced. "This is Miss Martian, Superboy, Beast Boy, Vigilante, and Lagoon Boy."
They exchanged greetings and small conversation for a few minutes, then Dick announced that they were going to run a simulation. Megan and Conner begged off, so the newer members went into the room while the original members crowded into the observation booth. Dick programed a simple street fight into the computer, and they watched as the team prepared for the fight, then started to defend themselves against the attacks.
"They're good," Mallory commented, watching the newest members as they worked together with the others to fight quickly and efficiently.
Dick smiled. "Yeah, they are."
"Ok, so what's this Robin's story?" Conner asked bluntly.
Dick's smile fell a little. "He showed up at the manor demanding to see Batman. He figured out our secret identities a few years ago."
"Wow, that's pretty impressive," Megan said.
Dick nodded. "Yeah, it is."
"I don't get it. If he knew who you were, why didn't he come to you sooner?" Raquel asked.
"Because he didn't need to sooner." Dick said. His friends looked at him in confusion, and he sighed. "When Jason died, Bruce was in a dark place. Even with Jess there, he started using more force than was necessary, and the public was starting to get nervous. Jess wasn't much better. They were feeding off each other. I tried to fix it, but nothing I did helped. When Tim showed up, he tried to get me to go back to being Robin. I refused to do it, so he wanted to."
"Wow, that's–" Megan started, and the others nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, the only problem was Jess. She didn't want to give the title to some stranger, but when she got to know him she decided that he was better for it and she went back to being Jett. Bruce has gotten a lot better since Tim started patrolling with him."
"That's great," Megan said.
Zatanna looked at Dick, tilting her head a little. "Does it bother you to see the title passed around so much?" she asked.
Dick shrugged. "It did at first, but it doesn't anymore. Batman needs a Robin, and I don't want it anymore, so they can have it."
They were quiet for a moment, then Raquel said, "So, what's going on with Batgirl? She's been active for a year, and we haven't heard anything about her."
Dick chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck, immediately letting his friends know that something was up. "Well," he started, "I didn't really want to mix her with all this at first. She's an old friend, so when she first started going out, I kept an eye on her. She's good, though, so I asked her if she wanted to join about a week ago."
"And?" Mallory pressed, knowing there was more.
"And," he said slowly, "Well, we're kind of–dating."
"Dick, that's great?" Megan exclaimed.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Mallory asked.
"I guess I didn't want to make things weird," he said, glancing at Zatanna.
She crossed her arms. "Why would that be weird for us? We broke up a long time ago, and I'm dating John."
Mallory and Raquel stared at the magician. "What?" she asked.
"You're dating John?" Raquel repeated.
Zatanna groaned and rolled her eyes. "Ugh, why do you have to make a big deal about this?" she asked.
Her friends grinned. "Well, it's just that, we thought that John wasn't your boyfriend," Mallory said teasingly.
"Yeah, you said he was just showing you around the magic world, and there wasn't anything else going on there."
Zatanna sighed. "Fine, I was wrong, you happy?" she asked, but there was a smile teasing at the corners of her mouth.
"Yeah, I guess," Mallory replied.
"Great. I'm gonna go make lunch." The magician left the observation booth, and Mallory, Raquel, and Megan followed her out.
"I can't believe Z finally admitted it," Raquel said when they got out of the booth.
"Yeah, me either. I mean, I always thought that she and Dick would work things out, but I guess they found people who have more in common with them," Mallory replied.
"Yeah, I guess. How well do you know John?" Megan asked.
"Not great, we've met him a few times," Raquel replied. "Why?"
Megan shrugged. "Nothing, really. He just seems so dark. I just wouldn't want Zatanna to get involved with someone that has so many secrets."
Mallory shook her head. "Don't worry about that, she knows what she's signing up for with him. Besides, she can take care of herself."
Megan nodded, and they continued on to the kitchen to help the magician with the food.
