Locke has managed to convince Silver not to go looking for the Mirror again and for the rest of the holidays the Chaos Emerald remained in his drawer. The meetings with the Mirror had a another affect on Silver. Ever since he saw his parents he had the same nightmare every time he slept. He saw them disappearing in a flash of golden light while someone let out a terrifying laugh. When Silver told Razor this he seemed to take it as confirmation "See? Locke was right. That Mirror drives you mad". When Coral returned the day before the holiday's ended she had a different view on things. She was torn between horror of Silver being out of bed at night and disappointment that he hadn't at least found out who Mammoth Mogul was. They had almost given up hope of ever finding Mogul in a library book, even though Silver was still sure he'd read the name somewhere. Once term had started, they were back to skimming through books for ten minutes during their breaks. Silver had even less time than the other two, because Sky Chase practice had started again. Khan had been working them harder than ever. The endless rain hadn't dampened his spirit. Mighty and Ray were complaining but Silver was on Khan's side. If the won the next match against Yagyu they'd over take Raiju in the Championship for the first time in seven years. At the end of one particularly messy training session Khan had bad news for them.
He snapped at Mighty and Ray who kept dive bombing each other and pretended to fall off their boards "Quite it! That's exactly the sort of thing that'll lose us the match! Infinite's refereeing this time, and he'll be looking for any excuse to knock points off Shinobi!". Ray did fall of his board this time. He talked with a mouthful of mud "Infinite refereeing? When's he ever refereed a Sky Chase match? He's not going to be fair if we might overtake Raiju". The whole team burst in complaints which Khan tried to talk over "It's not my fault. We've just got to make sure we play a clean game, so Infinite hasn't got an excuse to pick on us". That was the least of Silver's worries with Infinite being on the pitch. He ran back to the common room to talk to Razor and Coral who were playing Chess. Chess was the only thing Coral lost at which Razor and Silver thought was good for her. He told them both about Infinite and they both kept giving suggestions "Don't play" "Say you're ill" "Pretend to break your leg" "Actually break your leg". Silver shook his head "I can't.. We don't have a reserve Seeker. If I don't play we'll have to forfeit". Antione suddenly fell into the common room with his legs stuck together which Coral identified as a Leg Locker Curse. Most of the common room laughed but Coral quickly helped him by undoing the curse. Antione's leg separated but trembled. Coral brough him over the chairs "What happened?" "Rutan. I met him outside the library. He said he'd been looking for someone to practise that on". Coral suggested he go to Echo but Antione just shook his head "I don't want any more trouble".
Razor joined them "You've got to stand up to him, Ant. He's used to walking all over people, but that's no reason to lie down in front of him and make it easier". Antione sniffed "There's no need to tell me I'm not brave enough to be in Shinobi, Rutan's already done that". Silver gave him his last Chocolate Frog "Your worth ten Rutans. Caliburn put you in Shinobi. And where did it put Rutan? In stinking Raiju". Antione was still upset but he managed to smile "Thanks, Silver… I think I'll go to bed. Here". He gave Silver the Frog card and went up to the dormitory. Silver checked the card "It's just Locke again. He was the first one I…". His eyes widened and he let out a gasp "I found him. I found Mammoth Mogul". The others couldn't believe him "Seriously" "Yeah, listen to this. 'Professor Locke is particularly famous for his defeat of the dark wizard Mephiles in 1945, for the discovery of the twelve uses of dragon's blood and his work on alchemy with his partner, Mammoth Mogul". Coral jumped to her feet, she hadn't looked this excited since they got their marks from the homework "Stay here". She ran up the stairs, before Silver and Razor could ask anything she came back with an old, very large book "I took this out weeks ago for a but of light reading" "Light?" Razor said.
Coral quickly flicked through the pages "I knew it" "Are we allowed to speak yet?" "Mammoth Mogul is the only known maker of the Chaos Drive". Silver and Razor both looked at each other "The what?". Coral rolled her eyes "Honestly, don't you two read? Listen. The ancient study of alchemy is concerned with making the Chaos Drive, a legendary form of Chaos with astonishing powers. The Drive will transform any metal into pure gold. It also produces the Elixir of Life, which will make the drinker immortal. There have been many reports of the Chaos Drive over the centuries, but the only one currently in existence belongs to Mr Mammoth Mogul, the noted alchemist and opera-lover. Mr Mogul, who celebrated his six hundred and sixty-fifth birthday last year, enjoys a quiet life in Crisis City with his wife (six hundred and fifty-eight)". She grinned having finally found it "You see. That's what Fluffy's guarding. Mogul must have asked Locke to keep it safe cause their friends" "No wonder Inifnite's after it. Who wouldn't be" Silver said. Razor nodded "No wonder we couldn't find him in recent Wizarding Legends. He's not exactly recent if he's over 600".
Silver and Razor spent that Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson discussing what they would do if they had a Chaos Drive. It wasn't until Razor said he'd by a Sky Chase team did Silver remember the game he had to go to. He wasn't going to let the Raiju think he was scared. If they won it would really wipe the smiles off their faces. Coral reminded as it was so long as they weren't wiping him off the pitch.
As the match came closer however Silver's fears started to grow. It didn't help that the rest of he team were terrified as well. They thought their opportunity to overtake Raiju was pretty much gone with Infinite referring. Silver noticed that he had started to see Infinite more often as if he was being followed. Did Infinite know they found out about the Drive. Silver didn't see how but he sometimes got the feeling Infinite could read minds.
Silver said goodbye to his two friends before getting ready for the match, he could tell by their tone of voice that they were wondering whether this would be the last time they saw him. Silver didn't have much confidence either, he was so worried that he didn't hear a word of Khan's speech before the game. Coral and Razor went to the same spot as the last game and were prepared. If there was any sign that Silver was losing control of his of his board they'd hit Infinite with the Leg Locker, that should break his eye contact. As Silver and the rest of the team got onto the pitch his heart might as well done a summersault. Up in the stands with the rest of the teachers was Professor Locke. He was safe, there was no way Infinite would try anything with Locke watching. Perhaps this was why Infinite looked so angry. Razor and Coral had spotted Locke as well but before they could celebrate someone joined them "Taking bets on how long the Hedgehog will stay on his broom this time. You in, Razor?" Ruta said mockingly. They ignored him, Coral had all her fingers crossed as she watched the match begin. Silver's plan was easy, they had enough points that it was best to end the game earlier so all he had to do was find the Ga before Infinite could favour Yagyu too much.
Infinite had already given Yagyu a penalty shot because Mighty as hit a Thunderball at him. Rutan continued his mockery "You know how I think they choose people for the Shinobi team? It's the people they feel sorry for. See, there's Silver, who's got no parents, then there's the O'Hedges, who've got no money. You should be on the team, D'Coolette, you've got no brains". Antione went red but turned to face them "I'm worth twelve of you, Rutan". Razor was too fixed on the game to turn around but he patter Antione on the back "You tell him, Ant". Rutan seemed to find Antione's sudden bravery funny "Antione, if brains were gold you'd be poorer than Razor and that's saying something". Razor's nerves were already at breaking point with Silver, he wasn't having this "I swear, Rutan. One more word about my family-" "Razor, look!" Coral said. Silver had just done a spectacular dive towards the ground. Coral's crossed fingers were now in her mouth. "You're in luck, Razor. Silver's spotted some money on the ground" the moment Rutan finished the sentence Razor leapt on him and wrestled him to the ground. Rough and Tumble were about to help when Antione suddenly leapt on both of them knocking them over in the surprise. Silver whooshed past Inifnite by incheas and then rose up with his hand in the air. The stands all erupted, Silver had caught the Ga. Coral still hadn't noticed Razor fighting "Razor, where are you? Silver's caught the Ga. We won!". She jumped up and started dancing with Lyco behind her. Silver landed to meet the crowd of Shinobi. Locke had come over and patted his shoulder "Well done. Nice to see you haven't been brooding by the mirror. Been keeping busy. Excellent".
Silver left the changing room some time later to take his board back up to the common room. He had never been happier, he'd finally done something to be proud of. No one could say he was just a famous name anymore. He couldn't wait to get back to the common room, the rest of the Shinobi were getting a party ready for the team. Silver made his way up the steps but he heard a twig snap. He looked down the hill and saw a silhouette of someone who was definitely Infinite. He was heading down to Big's house. Silver hadn't been spotted yet so he quietly followed him. He managed to stay out of sight and spotted Infinite meeting another figure near the house. It was when he heard the voice did he realise who it was "D-don't know why you wanted t-t-to meet here of all pplaces, Infinite" "I don't want anyone at the castle hearing us". Silver heard Suguna mumble something that he couldn't make out then "Have you found out how to get past the Blood Beast yet" Infinite said accusatorily. Suguna gasped "B-b-but Infinite, I-" "You don't want me as your enemy, Suguna" "I-I don-t know what you-". Infinite stepped closer "You know perfectly well what I mean… I'm waiting". Suguna kept stammering trying to figure out something to say until Infinite cut in "Very well. We'll have another little chat soon, when you've had time to think things over and decided where your loyalties lie".
The moment Silver met with Razor and Coral the former kept patting him on the back "We won! We won! And I gave Rutan a black eye. Ant took on Rough and Tumble. He's still in the hospital wing but Madam Vanilla says he'll be okay. Where've you been?". Silver made sure no one was listening before explaining everything "'So we were right, it is the Chaos Drive, and Infinite's trying to force Suguna to help him get it. He asked if he knew how to get past Fluffy and he said something about Suguna having to tell him something. I reckon there are other things guarding the Drive apart from Fluffy, loads of enchantments, probably, and Suguna would have done some anti-Dark Arts spell which Infinite needs to break through". Coral looked alarm "So you're saying Drive is safe as long as Suguna stands up to Infinite". Razor gave a defeated sigh "It'll be gone by the end of the week".
