Chapter Fifty-Four
Welcome to California
"We can't keep them further away than they are right now, because they're on public property." -Mike Davidson, Head of Security
72 Hours Later – June 6, 2019
Those were the words that did it, that made the father realize what he had to do; he thought that his family would be safe in Hawaii, and that it would be good for them. That it would be the perfect place for them to raise their family, but it turned out that ended up not being the case; it ended up not being the place that they were meant to raise their kids (in their opinion), and that just broke the husband's heart. So much so, that he just couldn't stand to look at either his wife, nor could he stand to look at his sons right now; heck, he could barely be in the same room as her right now. So that was why he wasn't in their room right now, rather he was in the living room; that way, he was away from his wife and sons (and therefore didn't need to look at them right now). So here he was, trying to sleep on the couch in their new home that he (secretly) bought for his family; so that they could have a second home in California, and he did it right when he got the money that he inherited. That way, it was ready in case they ever had to come here.
The truth is, Matt has never liked staying in hotels; and that was the real reason behind him wanting to buy this home, so that he didn't have to stay in a hotel. However, that didn't mean that Gabby was all that happy about it; rather, she was a bit annoyed over the fact. But once Matt explained the reason behind buying the house without telling her (the fact that he doesn't want to stay in a hotel), she understood; but that was not the only thing that made her understand, as she also understood after she saw the house. And that was one of the real reasons that Matt bought the house, because he felt he couldn't NOT buy the house after he saw it. It was just so beautiful, and it was perfect for his family; so much so, that he could see them raising their kids here whenever they're in Los Angeles. And that was definitely something that Gabby could see too, the minute she walked into the home for the first time; and that really made Matt happy, that she both understood and felt the same way about the home (and what the future holds for them here).
But there was also something that didn't make Matt happy, and that was that he's since started to have more PTSD ever since he moved here; PTSD that almost always turned into nightmares. His latest nightmare? That the press would come all the way upstairs, into their home, and either hurt (or kill) their sons; it was just the worst feeling in the entire world, and that was why he couldn't be in bed with Gabby (or near the boys) right now. In fact, he was still having the nightmare right now; the nightmare that he thought was going to stop, but it hasn't. It's still happening, and it just made Matt wake up screaming. Sitting up, Matt got scared and put his hand on his chest; the father being extremely scared as he yelled his son's name. "MATTEO!" And that was all it took to wake people up, to wake up his concerned family; especially his wife. Rushing out of their room the moment she heard her husband yell out their son's name, Gabby Casey was just worried as she looked at her husband. Watching him heave, Gabby just felt her heart break.
Her heart was breaking over the fact that he was even experiencing this right now, especially as she watched him put his hand on his chest; he put his hand on his chest as he breathed due to the fact that he was so scared right now. But he was not the only one that was scared right now, as there was another woman in the house that was scared right now; and that would be Camila Dawson, the man's mother-in-law. Walking out, Camila looked at her daughter so that she could comprehend just what was going on right now. "Hey, what's going on?" Hearing her mother behind her, Gabby took a breath as she turned around and look at her. "Mom, can you do me a favor and check on the boys? They're in the nursery, can you also maybe…" Camila just understood right away what her daughter needed her to do, and that was take care of her grandsons; and not just for now, but for a while. Right now, she needed to take care of them so that Gabby could concentrate on Matt; after all, he is her husband, and he's not doing the best right now.
Therefore, he needed his wife to take care of him right now; and that was why Camila was more than happy to take care of her grandsons, while Gabby took care of her husband…the husband who needs to be held by her right now. So, Gabby went to do just that, she walked over to the living room so that she could hold her loving husband in her arms. Walking over to up, Gabby looked down at Matt as he sat up on the couch and just smiled at her husband. "Matt?" Starting to come back to reality, Matt looked around before seeing that Gabby was here with him. "Matt, hey. It's me. It's Gabby." Matt nodded as Gabby said that, before starting to breathe normally. He then started to look around, feeling lost. "The boys. Where are the boys? Gabby, are they…" Gabby then just got close to Matt, looking down at him. "Hey, take a breath and just sit up some more baby; it's all okay, and I'm right here." Matt agreed with his wife when she said that, quite scared. After which, Gabby came to sit in his lap so she could hold him close to her.
Cuddling up to the man she loves more than anything in the entire world, Gabby wrapped her arms around his neck and held him close to her; after which, Matt ran his hands up and down her back as they held each other close. He then put his head in her chest, and just started to cry; and that's something that he's done every, single night since the events that led to them leaving Hawaii for a while. And the reason they left was so that they could get away from the press that they wanted to avoid. "I'm sorry Gabby, I'm sorry." Gabby agreed with Matt when he said that, before kissing his forehead softly. "I know baby, I know that you have a lot on your mind right now; please, just breathe and take it easy. I promise, I'm right here baby. I'm right here for you." Matt then looked up at his wife as she told him that, shocked that she was even okay with all of this. "How can you be here with me Gabby? How are you okay with all of this? Baby, I'm putting our sons at risk. And it's all because…" Gabby shook her head when she heard Matt say that.
"Hey, baby. I don't ever want to hear you say that ever again. Please, take a breath and just look at me." Matt agreed with his wife when she said that, after which she bent down and proceeded to kiss him softly. Taking things nice and slow with the man she loves, Gabby smiled at him while leaning her forehead against his. After which, she looked at Matt and kissed his forehead softly. "Listen, the boys are in their nursery; and I just asked my mom to take care of them for a while. So how about you come back to bed? We can relax." Matt took a breath when he heard Gabby say that. "Are you sure that's what you want? I don't want you to do something just because I'm having bad dreams, especially not when you're mad at me." Gabby shook her head when she heard Matt say that, wrapping her arms around his neck at the same time; she then looked down into his eyes, while smiling at him. "Baby, I'm not mad at you; I promise okay?" Matt agreed with his wife when she said that, before moving his hand up and down her back.
Kissing him softly, Gabby smiled due to the fact that she was really happy to be here with Matt; after all, this is where she wants to be right now. She wants to be with her husband, and she wants to make sure that they're happy with each other. And right now, that means that they need to just relax. Wrapping her arms around Matt's neck, Gabby held him close again while wrapping her arm around the back of his head. After which, she went to whisper in his ear. "Baby, let's just go back to bed okay? Let's go relax with each other, and we can talk there; okay?" Gabby took a breath when she heard Matt say that, before proceeding to run his hands up and down her back. At the same time, Gabby bent down and proceeded to kiss him softly. Taking things nice and slow with her dreamy husband, the man she loves more than anything in the entire world. After which, Gabby cuddled up to him and just held the man of her dreams close. Turning his head as he ran his hands up and down her back, Matt proceeded to kiss her neck softly.
"Let's go to bed okay? You need to just relax and take it easy." Matt took a breath, before agreeing with his wife as she said that. After which, he watched as she got up out of his lap; extending her hand shortly afterwards, Gabby smiled as she looked at her husband. Going to grab Gabby's hand, Matt got up and then proceeded to step close to her. Wrapping his arms around her, Matt smiled as he leaned in and proceeded to kiss her softly. "Sorry I wasn't in bed." Gabby shook her head when Matt said that, before going ahead with rubbing his arms; after which, Matt proceeded to kiss her forehead softly. "It's okay. I know that you have a lot going on." Matt agreed with his wife when she said that, well aware that was the case. "Listen, how about we go lay down; then we can talk, and we can hold each other okay?" Matt agreed with his wife when she said that, before feeling her grab his hand; he then proceeded to intertwine their fingers and followed her so that they could go relax with each other in bed, where they need to be right now.
He decided to check on the boys prior to making his way into his and Gabby's room, wanting to do that so that he could see for himself that the boys are okay; after all, that's what he needed right now. He needed to see that his sons were okay, because it most definitely helped. Another thing that helped was the beautiful woman who was currently standing at the end of their bed, the woman he loves more than anything in the entire world. Closing his and Gabby's bedroom door shortly afterwards, Matt sighed. "Sorry I took so long." Gabby shook her head. "I heard you apologizing to all of our friends." Matt agreed with his wife when she said that, as that was exactly what he just did. "I felt like I needed to, as I felt horrible that I woke some of our friends and family up." Gabby agreed with Matt when he said that. "Did any of them understand?" Matt agreed with his wife when she said that, before smiling as he walked up to her. "Jay and Alex did, because he's done it in the past." Gabby agreed with Matt when he said that, before looking at her incredible husband.
Wrapping his arms around Gabby, Matt smiled as he got close to her before pressing his lips against her forehead; after which, Matt looked down at his beautiful wife so that they can both hold each other close. God, he really loves his wife so much; and he's so glad where they're currently in the midst of holding each other close right now. Looking up at Matt, Gabby smiled as she leaned in and kissed her loving husband softly. "I love you." Matt agreed with his wife when she said that, smiling as he wrapped his arms around her. At the same time, Matt smiled as he proceeded to kiss her forehead softly. "Listen, how about we get in bed? I think it's time for us to relax and just take it easy with each other." Matt agreed with his wife when she said that, as he knew that was the case. He needed to relax with his wife in bed, and he needs to hold her close to him so that they can take it easy with each other. Putting her hands on Matt's chest, Gabby smiled as they were both just holding each other close at the end of their bed.
Matt then went to bend down and kiss her, until they were disturbed. More specifically, they were disturbed by Max. Walking in, Max barked as he looked at the other man who had PTSD. Turning his head, Matt laughed as he looked at him. At the same time, Matt leaned in and proceeded to kiss Gabby softly; taking things slow with the woman he loves, Matt smiled due to the fact that this is exactly what he wants to do. However, what he didn't want was Jay to interrupt them; however, he had to do it anyways. "Max, where are you boy?" Turning around, Matt went to speak to Jay. "In our room Jay."
Walking into Matt and Gabby's room to see Max in their room, Jay took a breath as he looked at his boss. "Guys, I'm so sorry about this." Proceeding to walk over to their bed, Gabby smiled as she went ahead and climbed in so that she can get in bed and just be all comfortable. At the same time, Matt smiled as he walked over to the fellow man with PTSD. "It's fine. I think he came because he heard me scream in the living room, then he followed my scent." Jay was a bit confused when he heard Matt say that, unsure as to what he was talking about. "What are you talking about?" Matt sighed when Jay asked him that. "I woke up having PTSD earlier in bed, and then went downstairs to the living room to sleep; that way, Gabby could sleep through the night. I then had more PTSD and screamed this time. Max probably heard me, and then followed my scent up here." Jay sighed when he heard Matt say that, before going to shake his hand. After which, Jay turned to look at Gabby. "You're right Gabby, I think it's time for him to get a service dog."
A bit confused when he heard Jay say that, Matt turned around to look at his wife; he then decided not to bring it up yet, at least not while Jay was still here. Rather, he can wait until he's gone so that he can bring it up; which is exactly what he's going to do. Turning to look at Jay, Matt smiled at him. "Sorry for waking you up." Jay shook his head when he heard Matt say that. "Listen, we can talk about this more later; but Matt, I never want you to feel like you need to apologize for waking people up by you having PTSD and screaming. Is that what you're talking about?" Matt sighed, agreeing with the veteran. "Yeah." Jay just looked at the man. "Matt, we'll talk later okay? Right now, you need to get some sleep; and we need to relax okay? So just take a breath and relax. Get in bed with your wife and just sleep." Matt agreed with Jay when he said that, before watching him walk away with Max; after which, he smiled as he turned to look at Gabby. "Don't have to ask me twice." Gabby smiled when she heard Matt say that, well aware that was the case. She then watched as Matt came to join her in their bed this morning. After all, it's where they need to be right now; they need to just rest.
Climbing into bed with the woman he loves more than anything in the entire world, Matt smirked due to the fact that Gabby is the love of his life; and he's more than happy over the fact that they're together right now. Laying down in bed again once he finished climbing into bed with Gabby once again, he smiled as he felt her crawl onto his chest and lay down; and let's just say that it was absolutely perfect. The way they hold each other close is absolutely perfect, and there will never be anything else that he wants to do right now; he wants to hold the woman he loves close, especially when he needs her right now. Grabbing the covers shortly after getting in bed with Matt again, Gabby smiled as she tugged them up on top of the both of them before cuddling up to him; at the same time, he wrapped his arm around Gabby and smiled as he felt her nuzzle her head into the crook of his neck. At the same time, Matt put his hand on her leg and just smiled as he was happy to be in bed with Gabby once again. "Matt?"
Moving his hand to Gabby's back, Matt stroked it with his thumb and smiled as he looked at her. "Yeah baby?" Gabby smiled as she turned her head and then bent down to kiss his chest softly. "Promise me that you wake me up next time? You don't need to let me sleep if you have PTSD, because I want to help you through this okay?" Matt agreed with Gabby when she said that, before turning his head and kissing the top of her head. He then smiled as he held Gabby close. "Are you going to work today?" Matt sighed when Gabby asked him whether he was going to be working today, because he thinks he might. "I'm not sure yet." Gabby agreed with Matt when he said that, well aware that he was thinking about working. "You're thinking about working, aren't you?" Matt shrugged. "It depends whether I get some sleep." Gabby agreed with Matt when he said that, well aware that was the case. "Can you at least promise me that you're going to sleep in today?" Smiling as Gabby asked him that, Matt nodded. "Yeah." Gabby then took a breath.
Looking up at her husband, Gabby sighed. "Can we talk about it in the morning?" Looking down at Gabby, Matt agreed with his wife before proceeding to kiss her softly. Taking things nice and slow with the woman he loves more than anything in the entire world, Matt smirked due to the fact that he's happy that he has her right now. Feeling Gabby lay her head down on his chest once again, Matt smiled as he turned his head and kissed her forehead softly. "I love you Gabby." Gabby agreed with Matt when he told her that. "I love you too Matt, and you never need to be worried about waking me up when you have PTSD. Please wake me up next time?" Matt agreed with Gabby when she said that, before turning her head and kissing her forehead softly; after which, Matt looked down at his beautiful wife and then kissed her softly. Taking things nice and slow with the woman he loves, Matt smirked due to the fact that Gabby truly is the love of his life. Putting her hand on Matt's chest as she kissed him, Gabby smirked at the man she loves.
After which, Matt put his hand on Gabby's and stroked it as they took things nice and slow with each other until they fell asleep in each other's arms once again (early) this morning.
