Chapter Fifty-Seven
The doctors just woke up this morning in Matt and Gabby's guest house, which was their home for now; and let's just say that they're very happy over the fact that they get to have that space, as they are (currently) the only couple here in California who are neither parents, or pregnant with their first children. And they were more than okay with that, as they weren't ready to have kids yet; they just want to take their time, and they want to make sure that they do everything right. But that was the last thing that they needed to think about right now, as they would much rather concentrate on their life here right now; the life that they're starting together here in the Golden State, where they are currently living in a home with an incredible view of the Pacific Ocean right outside "their" back door. Walking towards the kitchen together this morning, Will and Natalie both smiled as they looked at the sight that was in front of them: the sight of the pacific ocean that they have from their home; a view that the couple wanted to enjoy for a moment together.
Walking up behind his wife, Will smiled as he wrapped his arms around her and then rested his chin on her shoulder. "You better enjoy this view while we have it, because you aren't going to have it for long." Laughing as she heard Will say that, Natalie turned around in his arms before putting her hands on his chest. Stepping close to Will, Natalie smiled as she kissed him softly. "Oh, calm down Mr. Halstead; last time I checked, we aren't in private anymore." Will smirked when he heard Natalie say that. "Such a shame, because I most definitely enjoyed how we spent our private time the night before." Natalie smirked as she heard Will say that, as she most definitely did agree with that statement; especially since her husband was incredible the night before, when he made love to her. She then proceeded to kiss him softly, before whispering to him. "You were incredible last night Mr. Halstead, and I will be shocked if we don't get pregnant after how much fun we had the night before." Will smiled when he heard Natalie say that, holding her close.
After which, he proceeded to whisper to her as well. "Are we ready for that? If we get pregnant?" Natalie smiled when Will asked her whether she was ready to have a baby with him, because she was definitely ready to have a baby with the man she loves. "I think I would love the idea of us having a baby, but maybe when we're back in Hawaii. I want to wait until we have stability." Will agreed with his wife when she said that, as that was definitely something that she can agree with. "I like that idea." Will just smiled when Natalie said that, before wrapping his arms around her more; after which, he put his hands on her butt and then leaned in to kiss him softly. Taking things nice and slow with the woman he loves, Will just smirked due to the fact that he is really happy. However, Natalie thought that he was taking things a bit too far right now. "Okay, calm down Will; time for us to relax, because we aren't in private anymore last time I checked." That's when Will heard his brother speak to him as he walked up behind the couple this morning.
"You also need to calm down, because you're late; didn't you get my phone calls or text messages?" Turning to look at his brother while letting go of Natalie, Will wrapped his arm around her waist and just looked at his brother as he proceeded to ask him what he was talking about; at least, that was what he was going to do (until he saw that all of the husbands were already making breakfast). Looking at Will, Matt and Kelly then both gave him the evil glare; and that was when Natalie pushed him away. "Listen, how about you go help the other husbands make breakfast? I will go spend some time with the wives. Anyways, I need to talk to Gabby." Will was confused when he heard Natalie say that. "Why do you need to talk to Gabby?" Natalie sighed. "Until the clinic is up and running, I think I might join the girls in designing for ELLA Apparel." Matt smiled when he heard Natalie say that. "I think that you'd do a great job in doing that Natalie. By the way, did I hear you play your violin last night?" Natalie smiled as Matt asked her if she played last night.
"I hope that it didn't keep the boys up last night." Matt shook his head, before smiling at her. "No, it actually helped me. I had some PTSD last night, and it really calmed me…" Matt then thought about something. "Will, grab your phone and take a note of this." Will was confused when he said that, but just did as he was told; after all, Matt is both his "landlord" and his boss. "What is it Matt?" Matt then smiled. "I have a job for you and Natalie. I want you guys to research what the benefits of music is for people with PTSD. If it helps them relax, then we will produce some. Natalie, you could play your violin." Natalie smiled when she heard Matt say that, as he was really thinking smart. "God, you are really smart when it comes to business." Matt smiled when he heard Natalie say that. "Listen, how about you go relax and spend some time with Gabby and the boys." Natalie agreed with Matt, proceeding to make her way outside so that she can go spend some time with the other wives; at the same time, Will made his way over to the kitchen.
But first, Will had to do something else; and that was give his brother a hug. "Hey, morning Will." Turning around, Will smiled when he saw Jay and Alex come downstairs. Walking up to his brother, Will smiled as he went to hug him. "Morning." He then went to hug Alex, before smiling as he kissed her cheek softly. "Where's Natalie?" Will just looked at Alex when she said that. "What's wrong with your brother-in-law?" Jay just laughed. "Oh, don't mind her. She just wants to spend time with the girls before she has to come spend a bunch of time with me and Antonio." Jay said, while also wrapping his arm around Alex's shoulders and grabbing her hand; intertwining their fingers at the same time, Jay smiled as he turned his head and kissed Alex's cheek. At the same time, Alex wrapped her arm around his back and just smiled. "Here, give me Max; you take care of making breakfast, and I will go outside with the girls and babies." Jay agreed with his wife when she said that, smiling as he watched Alex walk away with Max this morning.
At the same time, Jay smiled as he looked at his brother before walking towards the kitchen this morning. "So, what are we making for breakfast his morning?" Matt laughed when he heard Jay ask him that, making some egg sandwiches for Gabby this morning. "I already finished me and Gabby's breakfast. Meanwhile, Kelly is making some Oatmeal and Protein Shakes for him and Stella." Kelly smiled when Matt said that, before looking at Will. "Remind me to thank your wife for telling me that it was okay to do this, because I am so glad that Stella can drink them; much easier than having to worry about her eating enough during the day." Matt just turned to look at his best friend when he said that, before hitting the back of his head. "OW! What the heck was that?" Matt just looked at Kelly when he asked him that. "Wrong answer idiot. You ALWAYS worry about your wife and whether she's eating enough!" Kelly gulped when he heard Matt say that. "And don't say that Gabby wouldn't tell me to tell you the same thing if she heard that."
That's when Matt heard Gabby come into the kitchen, having heard her comment on what he just said. "What would Gabby tell him?" Turning his head to look at Gabby, Matt smiled when he saw that she had spit up on her. "Oh, did Noah spit up on you?" That's when Matt realized something. "Shit, wasn't Jay holding Matteo? Who's holding…" Gabby then walked up to her husband. "Hey, calm down. My mom just came out of her room through the side door, so she has Matteo right now." Matt agreed with Gabby when she said that, before going to grab a cloth. She then went ahead and proceeded to start cleaning herself off. "So, your mom has Matteo?" Gabby shook her head. "No. Stella is holding Matteo, my mom is holding Noah." That's when Gabby's brother came out of his room. "I swear, you really need to enjoy this time where your kids are young." Gabby then turned around to look at her brother. "Oh really? I should enjoy this time with the boys?" Antonio then looked at his sister when he saw that she had spit up on her. "Who did that?"
Gabby smiled. "Your godson. Listen, I am going to go change my shirt Matt. Can you listen out for someone calling for help with the boys?" Going to wrap his arm around his wife, Matt agreed with her and just smiled as he bent down and proceeded to kiss her softly. "Of course, Ms. Billionaire." Gabby laughed as she heard Matt say that. "No more playing the lottery." Matt agreed with his wife when she said that, smiling at her as she went to walk away. At the same time, Antonio just shook his head. "I still can't believe how lucky you are. First you inherit a bunch of money from your dad, then your grandmother, and then you win the lottery." Matt then turned to look at Antonio when he said that. "I was going to offer to put some money away for Diego to go to…" Antonio then shut up. "Never mind!" Matt agreed with Antonio when he said that, nodding. "Yeah. May I also remind you that you're benefitting from the fact that I'm a billionaire? Last time I checked, if I didn't get money…you'd still be working for Hank at CPD." Antonio then thought about it.
"Yeah, so shut up Antonio, and just relax. You really need to calm down and remember that we're not the only ones benefitting from this new life, you're very much benefitting too. Just know that I am not buying you a house, that's on you." Antonio looked at his brother-in-law when he said that. "What?" Matt just looked at Antonio. "I already bought you one home! By the way, my sister is coming here today." Antonio agreed with his brother-in-law when he said that. However, Will and Jay were confused as to why Matt said that. "What's wrong with your sister coming over?" Matt sighed. "They were in a fight last time they saw each other, because my sister thought there was something there; and then he said that there wasn't anything there." Will agreed with Matt when he said that, well aware of what he was talking about. "Oh, I have been there." All three of the gentlemen just looked at Will when he said that. "When?" Will was shocked when Jay said that. "Natalie. Right before we got together?" Jay then remembered that.
"Right." Will just shook his head when he heard Jay say that, before looking at Matt. "So, what are we doing today?" Matt laughed. "I think we can just hang out for now, not sure exactly. Let's just go with the flow."
Coming back from putting a new shirt on, Gabby smiled as she looked at Matt as he made some egg sandwiches from them; at the same time, she made sure that the shirt was very comfortable for herself to wear. At the same time, Gabby just smiled at the man of her dreams, who just so happens to also be the man she decided to come give a kiss this morning. Just looking at the man she loves, Gabby smiled as she wrapped her arm around his back; after which, Matt wrapped his arm around her back as well and then bent down to kiss her softly. Holding her close to him, Matt smirked as he started to take things nice and slow with the woman he loves more than anything in the entire world. "I love you." Gabby agreed with Matt as he told her that, smirking due to the fact that she loves him too. "I love you too, and I am so glad that you bought this place for us." Matt agreed with Gabby when she said that, before smiling as he proceeded to grab her hand. "Me too, and I am so glad that we're here with our friends right now." Gabby agreed.
She then smirked as she turned to look at her brother. "Especially since they can be great babysitters." Antonio sighed when he heard Gabby say that, as he literally walked right into that one; which is something that Matt just pointed out. "Sorry Toni, but you literally just walked right into that one." Antonio shook his head when he heard Matt say that; that was, until he heard his sister defend him. "Baby, please don't make him feel bad; remember that he can always make a date on a night that we may want to go out." Matt agreed with Gabby when she said that, well aware that was the case. "Right babe." Gabby agreed with Matt when he said that. "Are you guys almost done with the breakfast?" Matt agreed with Gabby when she asked him whether he was almost done making breakfast. "Are you starting to get hungry?" Gabby nodded when Matt asked her whether she was starting to get hungry. "Yeah, I am starting to get hungry. And if I could eat before I start designing, then I would definitely appreciate that." Matt agreed with Gabby.
That's when he turned to look at Kelly. "Can you make sure that both Gabby and Stella eat today?" Kelly agreed with Matt when he asked him that. "I'll do that." Antonio then looked at his brother-in-law, not that impressed with him; that's when Gabby decided to point something out to her brother, this time getting her husband out of trouble. "Hey Antonio…" Antonio then turned to look at his sister. "Remind me what you asked me to do sometimes when you had to work long hours while Laura was pregnant?" Antonio gulped when he heard Gabby say that, well aware that was the case. "Yeah, so don't judge my husband when you did the exact same thing." Antonio agreed with Gabby when she said that, before walking away so that she can go check on the boys. "Matt, I want breakfast soon." Matt agreed with his wife when she said that, ready to have some breakfast with his wife outside. "We'll be right out with breakfast okay baby?" Gabby agreed with Matt when he said that, walking away to go sit outside with their boys this morning.
Gabby was no longer the only one spending time with Matteo and Noah this morning, because Matt was now out here with his family as they had a quick breakfast together as a family. But unfortunately, he was not holding one of them; and that was due to the fact that his boys were all comfortable with their Abuela and their Grandmother (who just came over from Christie's place this morning). Quickly walking over to his mother, Matt smiled as he wrapping his arm around his mother and then kissed the top of her head. "Glad to see you here today mom." Nancy agreed with her son when he said that, smiling due to the fact that she was happy to be here too. "Well, I am not going to give up a chance to come spend some time with my son and grandsons." Walking back over to Gabby, Matt sighed as he went ahead and proceeded to sit down next to her; after which, he wrapped his arm around his beautiful wife and set his plate back down in his lap. "Unfortunately, mom, that's not going to be the case after breakfast." Nancy looked at her son as he said that.
"Is there a reason for that?" Matt then bit his lip, until he heard Antonio speak for him. "It's due to the fact that he needs to work with me and Jay today, as we're going to start working on Casey Police." Nancy looked at her son when she heard that. "You're going to work still?" Matt sighed. "I need to check on my employees in Hawaii too. I need to make sure that they're safe after all of that. By the way, have they found you yet mom? I really hope that they haven't." Nancy shook her head when Matt said that. "By the way, I am so sorry about all of this." Nancy stopped her son from saying that. "Hey, don't you dare start with that Matt, because you aren't to blame for this." Matt agreed with his mother when she said that, knowing that he can't argue with his mother. I mean, that's what you're taught to do after all. You don't argue with your mother, especially when she's back in your life now. "Mom, I promise that I'm not going to argue with you." Nancy agreed with Matt when he said that, before smiling at the man she's proud to call her son.
"By the way, I hope that you know that I'm proud of what you're doing when it comes to creating all of this for many people around the US Matt." Matt smiled when he heard his mom say that, well aware that was the case; he then went ahead and spoke to his mom. "And we're just starting. We're going to be looking for a mini-office here in California where we can permanently base people here in the Greater Los Angeles area." Turning to look at Matt when he said that, Gabby smiled due to the fact that she's proud of him; and that's most definitely something that she's glad that he's going to do. "I'm glad that you're going to do that baby, and I am so proud of you for doing it." Matt agreed with his beautiful wife when she said that, before smiling as he moved his hand to her leg; after which, he stroked her leg with his thumb. Matt then proceeded to take a bite of his breakfast and just smiled as this really was the life, the life that he's always wanted to live; one where he's a father, and Gabby's husband. After which, Matt smiled as he looked at his wife.
Looking at her husband too, Gabby proceeded to rub his back. "I swear, you are going to make me want to kiss you more each and every day." Matt agreed with his beautiful wife when she said that, before smirking as he leaned in and then kissed her softly. "Listen, how about we just eat right now? Maybe I can delay work for a bit." Gabby laughed as she heard Matt say that, as she didn't really think that he would do that. "Yeah, I'm not sure that you're going to do that." Matt just looked at his wife as she said that. "Hey, if you want me to spend some extra time with the boys; then I am going to do that." Gabby agreed with Matt when he said that, smiling as he is such a great husband and father. "Did I ever tell you how great of a husband and father you are Matt?" Matt smiled when he heard Gabby say that, before agreeing with her. "Hey, of course you have Gabby; you've done that so many times." Gabby agreed with Matt when he said that before wrapping her arms around his bicep, after which she laid her head down on his shoulder.
He just finished having a nice breakfast with his family, as well as putting his plate down in the kitchen; however that didn't mean that he was ready to go work yet. Rather, he wanted to spend some time with his family and friends as they relaxed; and some of them even finished breakfast. In fact, Alex and Jay weren't done having breakfast because she ended up not liking the breakfast that Jay made for her. So much so, that he had to make another breakfast for her; and that was something that Jay felt absolutely guilty about, something that Matt understands completely well. And that was actually one of the reasons that Matt was not sitting outside with Gabby. Rather, he was with Jay in the kitchen. Walking up to him at the sink, Matt rubbed his friend's back. "You feel guilty right now?" Turning to look at Matt when he said that, Jay was a bit shocked that he understood. "How did you know?" Matt laughed as he proceeded to lean against his counter, while also looking at his friend. "Jay, may I remind you that I just went through this?"
Jay then realized that, and just took a breath. "Amongst other things. Honestly, I am still shocked that you're still standing. You've been through so much recently." Matt agreed with his fellow PTSD patient, agreeing with him before sighing. "Trust me, there's a lot of work that goes into it. I have a lot of stuff behind me, and a lot more to keep working out." Jay turned to look at the CEO when he said that. "Have you been going to therapy?" Matt nodded. "Yeah, online. But we seriously need to figure out a permanent place, then I can get a full-time, in-person therapist." Jay agreed with Matt when he said that. "And so that you can get a service dog. Are you still looking into that?" Matt sighed. "I'm not sure. But if we do, then I know that I need to stay put for a while. I don't want to move him in the middle of training." Jay agreed with Matt when he said that, well aware of what he was talking about; especially since he just finished transitioning Max to this new home that he has. "By the way, thanks for letting me bring Max here and let him stay with us."
Matt agreed with Jay when he said that, before smiling at him. "Jay don't even thank me for doing that. I was more than happy to have him stay here. I mean that Jay, because I want you to have whatever you can to make sure that you're okay. Jay, you need to have all of the tools with you so that you can manage your PTSD. Take it from me, who is doing that too." Jay sighed. "Doesn't help that my PTSD has just gotten worse since that event that led us to leave Hawaii. I'm sorry if that's the truth but…I just, I need to explain." Matt agreed with Jay when he said that. "Yeah, you do; and that's due to the fact that you weren't exactly part of that." Jay just looked at Matt. "Because it reminded me of Afghanistan and Iraq, being rushed by insurgents; the paparazzi being the insurgents in this case." Matt just looked at his friend when he said that, clearly able to see why that's the case. "Wow, I didn't see that being the case." Jay agreed with Matt when he said that. "I'm sorry that I…" Matt stopped Jay from saying anything right now. "Hey, take a breath."
Jay agreed with his boss when he said that, before going ahead with listening to his boss. "Jay, you can definitely compare the two; heck, I didn't even think about how they could relate. But having lived it, I can see it. And especially since you were the one that went through it." Jay sighed. "And I'm sorry for making those statements without your permission." Matt then put his hand on Jay's shoulder. "Jay, you did the right thing; and I am so glad that you defended me, because that's what I expect my staff to do for me." Jay agreed with Matt when he said that, smiling due to the fact that he was really happy right now. "And I am so glad that you let me have this nice job that I am not even qualified for." Matt shook his head when he heard Jay say that, as he is more than able to do the job that he hired him to do. "Jay, don't even think that way, because you are more than able to do the job that I hired you to do; and since I hired you, you have really done such a great job. I mean that Jay." Jay agreed with Matt when he said that, smiling at his friend.
"So, is there a reason that you came in here?" Matt smiled when he heard Jay ask him that. "I just wanted to thank you for this morning. You really have been helping me, and you have no idea just how much it means to me that you take time away from Alex to help me figure this all out." Turning to look at Alex, Jay smiled at him. "Matt, I am just doing what I would want you to do for me. If I was having some trouble with my PTSD, then I would want you to help me with it." Matt agreed with Jay when he said that, smiling due to the fact that he most certainly would do it for Jay. "And I promise that I would do it. That's actually why I'm doing the PTSD thing, so that we can help each other together. Jay, I hope you know that you can always talk to me; and that I don't care that I'm your boss." Jay agreed with Matt when he said that, smiling due to the fact that he was well aware of that fact. "Matt, of course I Know that. I mean that boss." Matt smiled when he heard Jay say that. "I just want to let you know that I think we'll stay here for a while."
Jay looked at his boss when he said that. "Why are you telling me this?" Matt smiled. "So that you don't have to worry about finding a good doctor and therapist, only to have to loose them right when you get close to them. We're going to be spending the summer here in California, and then go back to Honolulu in the fall." Jay agreed with Matt when he said that. "I know. But what are Kelly and Stella going to do? Are they going to give birth here in California?" Matt took a breath when he heard Jay ask him that, as he didn't know the answer to that question. That's when Matt and Jay both heard Kelly walk into the kitchen with his and Stella's plates. "Me and Stella have actually been talking about that, and I was going to bring it up to you Matt. How long do you think we're going to stay here? Because we only have a few more weeks before we're banned from being able to fly by the FAA and our doctor's recommendations." Looking at his best friend when he said that, he let out a sigh. "Let's go talk about this as friends and family, figure it out."
All three of the husbands agreed with each other when they said that, before finishing up in the kitchen ahead of them going back outside so that they can talk to their wives about the length of their stay in California.
