Chapter Fifty-Eight
How Long are We Staying in California?
It didn't take long for all of Matt and Gabby's friends and family to gather together in the living room, especially when they heard about the topic that they were going to be talking about; and that was how long they were all going to stay in California. And that was a real topic that they have to consider, for health considerations; more specifically, Alex and Stella's pregnancies. With Stella already being twenty-three weeks along, she can only fly for a few more weeks before it's deemed too dangerous. Meanwhile, Alex is thirteen weeks along, and she has a couple months before they can fly. But they also need to think about Gabby. What if she gets pregnant? Are they going to be stuck here until after she gives birth? What if they have twins again? Well, that's most definitely something that they need to think about. However, that was not something that the couple could decide on their own. They really had to speak to their friends and family, and they needed to get all of their input; which is exactly what they're in about to be doing together.
Carrying over some drinks for everybody this morning, Matt smiled as he walked in to see Gabby setting the boys down in their chairs in the living room. "Yeah, you boys just rest for a bit and take it easy; that way me and daddy can talk to our friends about something." Matt just smiled when he heard Gabby say that, really happy that she was talking to their sons in such an adorable way; after all, she truly the most best mother in the entire world. Just walking up behind his beautiful wife, Matt smiled as he put his hand on her back and looked at their boys too. "Did I ever tell you that you always talk to the boys in the most adorable way?" Turning around to look at her amazing husband, Gabby smiled as she turned around and looked at the best husband in the entire world. She then went ahead and turned around to look at the love of her life. Getting close to Matt, Gabby smiled as she proceeded to wrap her arms around him; wrapping his arms around Gabby too, Matt smiled as he pressed his lips against her forehead and just smiled at his beautiful wife.
Looking up at Matt, Gabby smiled as she leaned up and proceeded to kiss him softly. Taking things nice and slow with the man she loves more than anything, Gabby smirked due to the fact that she was so happy right now; then again, she's always happy whenever she's with her husband. However, that didn't mean that everybody in the room were happy over the fact that they were sharing a kiss; more specifically, Matt and Gabby's nieces and nephews. Turning their heads to look at their friends, Matt, and Gabby both gave them some evil glares; especially some of their pregnant friends, as they heard them getting pretty intimate with each other last night. That's when Matt reminded Kelly of that. "Hey Kelly, do I have to remind you that I heard you in the pool last night?" Stella just looked at Matt when he said that, worried. "You guys heard that?" Gabby just shook her head, before walking over to the couch with her loving husband; after which she went to sit in his lap and wrapped her arm around his shoulders, which just made Matt smile.
At the same time, Matt put his hand on Gabby's leg and looked down at her; kissing her forehead, Matt smiled as they were both holding each other close. That's when Jay decided to make sure that Matt and Gabby didn't start making out with each other, which is something that they most definitely did not want to see. "Okay, don't you guys dare start making out when we're supposed to talk." Matt agreed with Jay when he said that, before proceeding to just wrap his arm around Gabby and put his hand on her leg. "Sorry. By the way, let's start with this. How did you guys enjoy breakfast?" Everybody smiled when Matt asked them how they enjoyed breakfast; to which Antonio replied: "It was delicious Matt, and we are so happy that you did that. But now, it's time for us to start this. We need to talk about how long we're staying here." Matt agreed with his brother-in-law when he said that. "Well, that's something we do need to talk about pretty bad. Where do we want to start? Or who do we want to start?" Kelly then went to start.
"Okay, I just have one condition. Me and Stella can stay here until October, because we brought some things for Kyle and Stephen when they're born." Gabby smiled at Stella when she heard the names that she and Severide have chosen for their sons, which she loves. "Oh, I just love those names. I mean, I've known about them for a while; but still, I wish we would've thought about them." Turning his head, Matt looked at his wife as she said that. "Excuse me, but what do you have against Matteo Andrew and Noah Matthew?" Antonio then decided to make a snide remark. "Let me see, the fact that both of your sons are named after you. One in his first name, the other in his second name?" Gabby then looked at her brother. "Hey Antonio, did you ever tell Eva the name you proposed using for her when she was first born?" Antonio gulped when Gabby said that, which led to Eva turning to look at her aunt. "Spill!" Gabby laughed when she heard her niece ask her to tell her the name that her father wanted to use for her.
"Ramona Antoinette Dawson." Eva just turned to look at her father when she heard what he originally wanted her name to be, before just shaking her head. "Really? You wanted to name me, a girl, after you and my abuelo?" Antonio sighed when he heard Eva say that, before nodding. "We can speak about this later." Eva agreed with her father when he told her that, as they most definitely will be speaking about it later. After which, Matt looked at the rest of their friends; after all, they do need to get back on topic. That topic being how long they are going to be staying here in Los Angeles. "Okay, can you guys please get back on topic. And that topic is related to how long we're going to be doing business here in California." That's when Gabby slapped her husband's chest, as that was not the topic of the conversation that they were having right now. "Matthew!" Matt agreed with his wife when she said that, well aware that was the wrong way to talk about that; as that was not the reason that they're currently sitting together to talk right now.
Rather, they're here to find out how long they're going to be living here in California. Looking at their friends, Matt smiled. That's when Eva spoke up. "Okay, I just have to say this. I don't care what you guys decide, I know that I'm going back to Hawaii with my dad in August." Turning his head, Antonio looked at his daughter. "Excuse me? Who said that you…" Eva just laughed. "My uncle is paying for my law school, which I need to go to so that I can keep my job at the company." Matt laughed when he heard Eva say that, well aware that was the case. "Okay then, so it seems like Casey Police will be working from a distance for a while." Jay sighed when he heard Matt say that, as that was definitely the case. "Yeah, because I already have plans for September that I need time off for." Turning her head, Alex looked at her husband. "Plans? Where? Why am I…" Jay just looked at his wife, them having already talked about it. "Oh, those plans." However, Matt was unsure of what plans he was talking about. "What plans are you talking about Jay?"
Jay sighed. "I've always wanted to go to New York for the 9/11 ceremony, be there in person; so I'm going to go this year, because I have the time to do it. Don't worry, I already paid for the ticket on my own dime." Matt agreed with Jay when he said that, smiling as he was glad that was the case. "Well, that's if I can go. Depends on how you're feeling, and whether I can get someone to take care of you; because you most certainly are not travelling on a plane with me." Alex then smirked. "Or, we can take a train trip across the country." Jay thought about it, and smiled when she said that; as that was definitely something that he was interested in. However, Matt was not ready to talk about it. "Okay, may I remind you that we're not talking about that yet; we're currently in the midst of talking about what we're going to be doing for the future, including when we're going back to Hawaii. Which, we have yet to classify as whether it's our home or just our place where we're going to stay every once and a while." Gabby then looked at her husband.
"Matt, I want to call Hawaii our home because it's where I want the kids to go to school." Matt looked at Gabby when she said that, unsure as to why she was already thinking about why she was already thinking about where she wants the boys to go to school. "Is there a reason why you're already thinking about school?" Gabby sighed. "I want the boys to know the people that they go to school with." Antonio smiled when he heard his sister say that, because he knew that was a good idea. Another person who thought that it was a good idea? Max. Walking in, Max proceeded to bark at everybody; which prompted Jay to make a joke. "I think that Max agrees with Gabby's decision to put the boys in school with kids their age, here in Hawaii." Gabby smiled when she heard Matt say that, until she heard Max bark again; and that led her to having a feeling. "Jay, bring Max outside now." Jay was confused when he heard Gabby say that, unsure as to why he was just told to take Max outside. "Why?" Gabby then looked at him. "Do you want to pay for…"
Jay then agreed, going to get up before looking at Max. "C'mon Max, let's go outside before we're in trouble with Ms. Casey." Gabby then turned to look at Jay. "Jay, careful before I start making your pay rent!" Alex then turned to look at her husband when she heard Gabby say that. "Jay, you make us pay rent; and I am not going to be very happy." Jay agreed with his wife when she said that, before walking outside with Max so that he can take him out to the washroom. After which, Gabby turned to look at Matt and smiled as she wrapped her arms around his bicep and grabbed his hand. Intertwining their fingers, Gabby just smiled as she laid her head down on his arm as they got comfortable with each other. At the same time, Matt turned his head and kissed the top of his beautiful wife's head. "What are you thinking about?" Gabby smiled as she looked up at him. "I'm just happy right now." Matt agreed with his wife when she said that, before smiling as he bent down and proceeded to kiss her softly. "I love you." Gabby agreed with Matt.
Matt smiled as he came back from the kitchen, carrying both himself and Gabby some waters so that they can stay hydrated. While they do not live in Hawaii anymore, that didn't mean that Matt has automatically changed how he acts anymore; rather, he just continued what he did before and brought Gabby some water. Coming to sit with her again, Matt smiled as he give her some water and just watched her look up at him; bending down shortly afterwards, Matt smiled as he kissed her softly. He then sat down next to his beautiful wife so that they could hold each other close. Wrapping his arm around her lower back, Matt smiled as he put his hand on her leg and just held her close to him. At the same time, Gabby laid her head down on his shoulder; smiling, Matt turned his head and kissed the top of her head as they held each other close this morning. "So, what are we talking about now?" Jay sighed when Matt asked him that. "I guess I have some questions about the logistics of everything." Matt was confused when he heard Jay say that.
"Can I ask what exactly you mean by that Jay?" Jay sighed as he looked at Matt when he asked him that, because this is probably something that he needs to think about as well. "Listen, I don't want you to panic after you hear this." Jay took a breath as he looked at his boss, as he does want to talk to him about this. "Okay, so if we stay here; what does this mean for the business? How are we going to work with the people in Hawaii? Are we going to tell them to move here? I know that we don't have that many there, so are we going to move them here?" Matt took a breath when Jay asked him what they were going to be doing when it comes to their employees, because they most definitely do need to talk about that; and they are going to do that right now. "Okay, does anybody have any objections to us talking about this right now? Or would we rather do this later when we're in the office?" And while the comment was put out for everybody to comment on, Matt was really pointing the question towards Gabby (whom he wanted to please).
Seeing Matt looking at her, Gabby was confused as to just why he was looking at her specifically. "Why exactly are you specifically looking at me right now?" Stella laughed as she looked at her best friend. "I think it's because he knows that your opinion is the one that really matters at the end of the day." Gabby thought about it, and then smiled as she looked at Matt (while also grabbing his hand and looking at him); after which, she leaned in and kissed him softly. Taking things slow with him, Gabby smiled. "As long as I'm here with you, that's all that matters at the end of the day." Matt smiled when he heard Gabby say that, before wrapping his arm around her more; after which, he turned his head and kissed her forehead softly due to the fact that he is very happy with the woman he loves more than anything in the entire world. However, he soon remembered to just take it easy and go back to talking to his friends. "So, are we okay with talking about business too Gabby?" Gabby agreed with Matt. "Of course, we can, because this is time."
However, before they started talking about business; Eva and Diego spoke up. "Hold up, one thing first." Everybody then turned to look at Eva and Diego, with Eva speaking for the siblings. "Can we be excused if you guys talking about business?" Laughing as his children asked that question, Antonio then spoke up. "Of course, Eva." Matt agreed with Antonio when he said that, smiling. "How about you go to the pool and have fun for the summer Eva? You can stop working for the summer." Eva agreed with Matt when he said that, before smiling as she walked away so that she could go get changed and take a swim. At the same time, Antonio turned to look at his brother-in-law. "Thanks for letting her take the summer off." Matt smiled when he heard Antonio say that, before nodding. "Of course, Antonio. Remember, I'm her uncle first." Gabby then proceeded to slap Matt's back. "Yeah, yeah. More like he doesn't want to get in trouble with his wife." Kelly then proceeded to make a comment to support his best friend, defending him in the process.
"Okay, I just want to say something for you guys all judging Matt. I want to remind you all of something okay?" Matt then turned to look at his best friend, before listening to him. "Okay. So, I am just going to say this; I don't want to have this cause blowback on Matt, but I am going to just say the truth. Matt here is surrounded by a lot of people who are all indirectly Gabby's allies. She has her brother, her mom, her niece and nephew, and Stella are on her side; Jay and Alex are on Antonio's side, and then on Gabby's side. I'm the only one that's on his side, but I can't say anything because I want to have a healthy marriage; and my wife is pregnant, ,with means I already have a…" Stella then turned to look at her husband, making it clear that he needs to shut up. "Kelly Severide. Careful before I make you sleep with Matt tonight, while I sleep in the primary suite with Gabby!" Gabby then looked at her best friend. "Oh, hell no! Matt is staying with me, because he has to help me with the boys in the middle of the night."
Stella agreed with Gabby when she said that, before continuing to listen to her best friend. "And I am not dealing with both a pregnant woman, and two twins in the middle of the night thank you very much; I just finished through my pregnancy, I have no desire to deal with someone else's pregnancy in the middle of the night. Oh, the night sweats still make me feel disgusting!" Alex and Stella both agreed with Gabby when she said that. "AGREED!" Alex just laughed. "Oh, don't get me started when I have a dog right near me too; it makes things so much hotter in the middle of the night." Alex then turned to look at Jay, while smirking at her dreamy husband as she put her hand on his face and kissed him softly. "And, of course, this handsome man here." That's when Will started to gag. "Bleh!" Turning her head, his doctor wife slapped his chest. "William! Be happy for your brother and sister-in-law if you want anything later!" Antonio then sighed, shaking his head. "I swear, I really need to get myself a girlfriend." Matt then turned to look at him.
"She can stay here, but she's not moving in permanently. You need to work for me if you want to live here permanently." Antonio then cocked his head, ready to question that. "What about your nephew?" Matt just looked at him. "The key word being PERMANENTLY. May I remind you that your son is returning to Chicago this fall?" Antonio just looked at his brother-in-law, before going to scratch the back of his head. "Uhm…" Matt and Gabby then both looked at Antonio when he said that. "Jay, Alex, Kelly, Stella…how about you guys all give us some time." Kelly then looked at Matt. "Want to go surfing?" Matt smirked when he heard Kelly ask him that, as he most definitely is interested in doing that; but first, he had to check with Gabby. Putting her hand on his face, Gabby smiled as she leaned in and kissed him softly. "Stella, go pack for a day at the beach. Baby, can we wait until next week to work?" Matt smiled, agreeing with his beautiful wife when she asked him that. "Everybody, beach day today!" Everybody loved the sound of that.
Once everybody left the living room to get ready for a beach day, Matt and Gabby both smiled as he turned to look at Antonio so that they could talk to her brother about the fact that Diego may be staying with them longer than expected. Taking a breath, Matt was about to speak up; but before he could, Gabby put her hand on his thigh and then proceeded to speak. "Baby, let me take care of this okay? Toni is my brother after all." Matt agreed with his wife when she said that, before proceeding to just listen to what Gabby was going to say to her brother. "Okay, what's this about Diego not returning to Chicago?" Antonio sighed. "Laura is thinking of joining us in California because she just got fired from her job, they closed due to the fact that they lost money. I'm not sure whether you have jobs, or what she wants to do; all she knows is that she needs to have my help for a while." Gabby then turned to look at her husband, grabbing his hand before intertwining their fingers. She then took a breath so that she can ask him to help her family out.
"Can we help them out baby?" Matt just nodded when Gabby asked him whether they can help them out, because they most definitely can help them. Putting his hand on her back, Matt smiled as he kissed her forehead softly. "Of course we can Gabby, I promise that we can." Gabby agreed with Matt when he said that, before smiling as she laid her head down on his chest; after which, she cuddled up to him and just held her close. After which, she wrapped her arm around his back and just cuddled up to him. After which, Matt put his hand on her leg again while kissing her forehead softly. "Are we bringing the boys today?" Gabby then turned to look at her mom. "Depends on whether my mom can watch the boys for us?" Camila smiled when her daughter asked her whether she can watch the boys. "Gabby, of course I can watch the boys for you." Gabby then smiled as she got up, before walking up to her mom so that she can hug her. "Thank you so much mom. Baby, let's go get changed."
Matt laughed as he heard Gabby say that, before going to grab her hand and intertwining their fingers. Leading Matt away once she had his hand in hers (with their fingers intertwined), Gabby just smiled due to the fact that she's going to be having a bunch of fun with her family and friends today; and even better, she doesn't have to worry about the boys while she has fun with her husband. Now, that's definitely something that she can be happy about, because she hasn't had that in a while; a day without the boys, where they can just relax and concentrate eon each other. "I hope you know that I'm surfing today." Gabby agreed with Matt when he told her that, well aware of the fact that he's going to be surfing today; and that was definitely something that she doesn't mind. "Well, that just means that I get something sexy while you're surfing." Matt smirked when he heard Gabby say that, well aware that was the case. Oh, and is he ready to give her something that she wants right now; that being a nice kiss from her incredible husband.
