Jubilee gasped as she was woken up by the morning alarm sound. Her collar was blinking as her cell door opened on its own.
"Mutants of Genosha!" A voice disclosed as Jubilee, and several mutants exited their cells. Danny came out of his cell looking like he had seen better days. "A new day begins! You have been brought here to build a new Genosha, a nation worthy of me, it's leader. Be happy in your work."
"Fuck, I feel like shit." Danny said as he pulled at his collar. Unlike the others, the collar was affecting him very badly. They were designed to suppress a person's powers, and Danny technically was a power since he was a duplicate. So he was trying to hold on to prevent himself from fading away. He didn't want to leave his friends alone in this hell. He wished that he could communicate with the original Danny telepathically, but the collar prevented that.
"I can't hold on much longer." Danny informed the group as sweat was pouring down his forehead at the collar's strain. He ended up collapsing.
"Danny!" Jubilee cried in worry as she, along with Storm and Gambit, tried to carry him with them.
The guards shooed the three away as they picked up Danny.
"This one is useless right now." A guard said as he commanded to the others. "Place him back in his cell. We'll wait until he gets better before he's sent off to work."
Storm, Jubilee, and Gambit watched as their friend was dragged back into his cell.
"Come on, petite." Gambit said to Jubilee. "He'll be fine. He's strong."
They were all directed by the guards to a construction site that was working on some massive project. Several other mutants sporting collars were doing manual labor as guards oversaw them.
"The collars that suppress your mutant powers will be turned off so you can use your powers in your work." One of the guards informed the group. "If you try to escape, the collars will be reactivated at once. If you try to remove your collar, it will explode and destroy you."
"Great vacation, Gambit." Jubilee said sarcastically to Gambit. Turns out Genosha was a country that used mutants as slaves, lying to the rest of the world that they accepted them in order to lure in more workers.
"Now get to work!" The commander ordered them as he pressed the button that deactivated their collars.
Storm immediately took off into the sky as she cried, "Now! Gambit! Jubilee!"
Jubilee tried to make a run for it, but Gambit grabbed her arm. "No use, petite!" He told her.
"Let me go, Gambit!" Jubilee demanded as she tried to get out of his grip.
Storm shot her lightning at the guards, making them cry out in pain. This prompted one of them to reactivate the collars.
"My powers!" Storm exclaimed as she began to fall to the river below.
"Storm!" Jubilee screamed, concerned for her friend.
Storm ended up resurfacing as the river pushed her along. She grabbed hold of a rock and began to climb out when a metal tentacle rose out of the water and wrapped around her ankle.
Storm let out a small scream as she looked behind her to see a Sentinel rise from the river.
"That's a Sentinel!" Jubilee announced. "I thought we wiped out those overgrown dweebs!"
"There's always more gators in the bayou." Gambit stated, knowing that trouble never really dies.
The Sentinel flew back up to where the other mutants and guards were. "This mutant apprehended while attempting to escape." The machine reported as it dropped Storm to the ground.
"Storm! Leave her alone!" Jubilee yelled as she tried to run to them, but Gambit stopped her. "Ow!" Gambit's grip was tight.
"Be quiet for once!" Gambit chastised her.
Dr. Trask stepped forward in front of Storm. "The leader has promised that you mutants will be released once this dam is built. But if you try to escape, you will never leave Genosha."
Jubilee recognized Trask back when she first met the X-Men. "That's one of the Mutant Registration guys that grabbed me after that weirdness back home at the mall!" She told Gambit.
"I guess when the president canceled his program, he moved south for his health." Gambit theorized.
"We have to do something!" Jubilee declared.
"Dispose of this one permanently." Trask ordered the Sentinel. The Sentinel complied as it grabbed Storm in its massive hand.
"You're making a mistake!" Gambit tried to save Storm but was blocked by two guards. "You don't know what she can do!"
"Gambit!" Storm called out. "What are you doing? Knowledge is power!"
"Be silent." The Sentinel said as he squeezed her.
Trask turned to Gambit as he looked through his clipboard. "According to her interrogation..." Gambit interrupted him.
"She didn't tell you nothing." Gambit said as he tried to bargain for Storm's life. "She can control the weather! She'll make it rain like a big storm. Fill up this lake in no time."
Trask thought about this. "Yes, that would be useful." He turned back to the Sentinel. "Until the dam is ready, put her in the box."
"No! Not in there!" Storm begged as the Sentinel placed her in a small containment unit. "Not in here! No! Please! Let me out!" Her claustrophobia was causing her to panic. "Let me out!"
The day went on as the mutants began to work for their freedom. Gambit and Jubilee were unloading some rebar when Jubilee started complaining. "The ad said "Fun in the sun." Let me know when the fun starts." Jubilee was still distressed about what happened to Storm. "I just can't stand to think of her inside that box. With her claustrophobia, it must be terrible."
"She's alive, petite." Gambit tried to comfort her. He was struggling with the rebar while a mutant known as the Blob watched him.
"Put your weight into it, pretty boy!" Blob told him as he bent his rebar.
"You!" One of the guards came up to Gambit. "Go break rocks."
Trask came up to a mutant that was using his powers to dry the concrete that was being poured out. "Dry that concrete evenly, Sunfire. We don't want it to crack."
Gambit was doing his job of destroying rocks when he heard an explosion. He saw that there was a fire in the distance.
Trask also noticed the fire. "It's him."
The mutants watched as two Sentinels flew in the direction of the fire. While everyone's attention was on the fire, Jubilee grabbed a piece of wire and hid it in her jacket.
Just in time too, as one of the guards barked out, "Back to your cells, mutants!"
As the mutants were led to their cells, they heard the same voice from the morning. "I have decided there will be no more work today." The voice proclaimed. "Enjoy yourselves."
Jubilee stopped as she looked at the box where Storm was being held.
One of the guards pushed her to move. "Keep moving!"
"Remember, your leader loves you." The leader said as all the mutants entered their cells, where the doors closed on their own, locking them in for the rest of the day.
Back at the Xavier Institute, Scott was trying to get hold of the group that was in Genosha, but was unsuccessful. He put the phone down. "Remind me never to buy stock in the Genoshan Phone Company." He said to Jean and Rogue.
"Danny is a strong guy, Scott." Jean reminded him. "I'm sure he can handle whatever Genosha throws at him, even bad phone service. He has fought ghosts since he was fourteen. And he has led the team to victory before."
Scott took in what Jean said. "You're right, Jean. I just hope they come back soon."
His wish was granted as Danny and Wolverine walked into the war room.
"Well! Look what the cat drug in." Rogue said in delight at seeing Danny back.
"We're back." Wolverine said.
"We've been trying to contact you for days, Wolverine." Jean told him. "Where have you been?"
Wolverine sneezed. "Somewhere cold."
"The Arctic, to be more specific." Danny explained. "We had another run-in with Sabretooth. That guy never knows when to quit."
Rogue placed her arm around Danny. "Glad to have you back, sugar. Did you have fun?"
"Well, I found out that there was no ghost; instead, it was Sabretooth. Wolverine and I saved a village from being terrorized by him. And said villagers thought I was a god." Danny listed.
Scott, Jean, and Rogue raised their eyebrows at this.
"A god?" Rogue asked in amusement. "Well, you do have a nice body to be considered a god." Rogue placed her hands on Danny's chest as she felt his muscles. "Perhaps you'll take me as an offering?" Rogue teased him. "After all, we know how much the gods love their women."
Danny smirked. "I don't think I can handle a goddess as fiery as yourself." He placed his hands on Rogue's.
"But this goddess wants her man, and she only takes the best." She placed an ungloved hand on Danny's cheek.
"Who am I to deny a goddess's demands?" Danny asked as he and Rogue slowly leaned into each other. Their lips were about to connect when Scott interrupted them.
"Since you're here, can you tell us how your duplicate and the others are doing in Genosha?" Scott requested. "I tried calling them, but I couldn't get through."
"Yeah sure." Danny said awkwardly, while Rogue gave Scott a minor glare for ruining their moment. Danny tried to speak to his duplicate, but something was wrong. "I can't contact him." He gave the others a serious look. "We need to go and find them now."
Inside the halls, Jubilee observed the lights as they began to flicker. The security camera watching the prisoners shut down at the lack of power. "Some dork at the power company sure picked a good time to screw up." She pulled out the piece of wire that she stole. "Not that young Jubilee, X-Woman Supreme, couldn't have handled it anyway. I am too slick."
Danny was currently resting in the cell that he shared with Gambit. "I've got to do something to help Storm." He tried to get up, but Gambit gently placed him back on his bed.
"You need rest, mon ami." Gambit advised him. "Gambit will figure out a plan."
"Don't bother; I already have one, but we need to figure out what they're using the mutants for. That's where I need you."
Gambit smirked. "What do you have in mind?"
Danny started to whisper into Gambit's ear.
"Remy wish that he had you along with him during his thieving days." Gambit complimented.
"Gambit!" Jubilee whispered as she reached his cell.
"What are you doing, petite?" Gambit asked her casually, like they weren't locked up. "Taking a walk?"
"I've got a plan on how to get out of here." Jubilee disclosed. "When they brought us back to the prison today, we walked right past the goon who turns the collars on and off. If we jump him, we can get the controls and get our powers back."
"It's too dangerous." Danny let out weakly from his bed. "One wrong move, and you'll be executed."
Gambit shared Danny's sentiments. "You're going to end up like Storm, in a box."
Jubilee ignored their warning. "Hey! No way! They won't expect us to try anything right outside the prison. We'll take them by surprise. I'll get you out so you can talk to the others." She pulled out the wire to unlock Gambit and Danny's cell. "This girl I knew in the orphanage taught me how to pick locks."
"It's your plan." Gambit grumbled. "You tell them. They like you better, anyway." He sat back down on his bed as he warned Jubilee to get back to her cell. "Now go on, quick, before the lights come on again."
"Yeah. Okay." Jubilee said reluctantly. She didn't expect Gambit and Danny to not go along with trying to escape. She went to the other cells as she tried to tell the other mutants about her plan. "Listen, everybody! I know a way we can all escape! I've got a plan on how to rush the guards."
"Don't be stupid, kid!" One female mutant with fur and a big head advised her. "You'll just get us in trouble!"
"Why risk our lives, girl?" Sunfire tried to reason with her. "They say they set us free when the work is done."
Blob was trying to get some rest and was irritated by Jubilee's presence. "Dumb kid! Go to bed!"
The lights started to come back on, motivating Jubilee to get back to her cell before she was caught. "I think I will!"
"We're ready to go, professor." Cyclops notified him. "Are you sure you won't come with us?"
"I believe you all are more than capable of making sure our friends are safe." Xavier said confidently. "Besides, I have some things I have to do."
"What are we waiting for?" Danny was thinking of several scenarios for why his duplicate wasn't contacting him; none of them were good. Maybe the team was attacked, and now they're all in danger. "Come on! They might need our help." He raced towards the Blackbird.
"Don't worry, Danny." Rogue tried to uplift him as she followed him with the others. "I'm sure she'll be fine."
Xavier went to his computer, where he typed a number on the keyboard.
"Muir Island Mutant Research Center." A voice answered.
"Moira McTaggart, please." Xavier responded. "Tell her it's an old friend."
"Mutants of Genosha!" The leader woke up his captives with his voice. "A new day begins!"
The cell doors opened as everyone got up for another day of hard work. Jubilee went to Gambit's cell to check on him. "Gambit?" Only to be greeted with no Gambit. Danny was there and he was still unconscious. "Gambit! Danny, what happened to Gambit?" Danny didn't respond.
One of the guards pushed Jubilee aside and entered Danny's cell. "Time to get up, mutant." He nudged Danny with his rifle, but it failed to wake him.
The guard tried repeatedly to wake Danny up, but he wouldn't stir. The guard then took his pulse, only to find there wasn't one.
"We've got a dead one!" The guard called out to the others.
Danny's apparently dead body was loaded on a stretcher and rolled out of the room.
"Take him to the morgue."
'No. They got him too.' Jubilee thought to herself with dread as Danny was taken out of the room. What was she going to do now?
Sunfire passed by her. "They take your other friend away in the night." He then whispered into Jubilee's ear. "We with you! Just say when!" His message now given, he went off to join the rest.
'At least I'm not alone in this.' She tried to motivate herself. She had to stay strong. Not only for herself but for Storm as well. As they all walked single-file. Jubilee saw the guard with the controls for their collars. Realizing it was now or never, she shouted. "Now!" Taking the guard by surprise with a kick, she knocked the controls out of his hands and grabbed them. "Come on!"
All the mutant prisoners began to turn on their captors. With them tackling and some even throwing them. Jubilee pressed a button on the controller to try to deactivate the collars. "Use your mutant powers!"
"The collars are still on!" Sunfire said before being blasted by a Sentinel. The Sentinel did the same to Blob and proceeded to break up the riot along with the guards.
"Don't shoot!" One mutant pleaded, holding her arms in surrender.
"It doesn't work!" Jubilee said in disappointment. Her once chance to escape and she blew it. Her musings on her failed escape were interrupted when a Sentinel shot a piece of cable that wrapped around her feet, causing her to drop the controller, which broke when it hit the ground.
"I have apprehended the leader of the mutant rebellion." The Sentinel confirmed.
"We were warned by one of their own kind, a mutant." The Leader's voice rang in a smug tone.
Jubilee was stunned. A mutant ratted them out. Who could have done this? Her eyes widened as it came to her. Gambit. "It can't be!"
The Sentinel then shoved Jubilee roughly into the box.
"Jubilee!" Storm called out. "Jubilee!"
"Storm!" Jubilee was relieved that Storm seemed to be alright despite her claustrophobia.
"Do not be afraid, child." Storm attempted to console her. "I will make a snowstorm when the sun rises."
Jubilee tried to dissuade her from that idea. "Don't, Storm, please. You know you don't have your powers."
"Gambit..." She was still weak from being confined in this small prison. "Gambit and Danny will save us." Storm spoke with faith. "I believe in them."
Jubilee wasn't feeling so confident as she sank to the floor, tears in her eyes.
Danny was lifted into a body bag.
"Take the collar off him." One guard said. "He don't need it anymore."
His collar was taken off, and the body bag was zipped up before being placed with the rest.
Danny smiled as he no longer felt his energy being drained.
Phase one was complete.
A limo went past the security gate as it drove towards a laboratory.
In the laboratory, Gyrich and Trask were watching the construction of their ultimate creation. A machine that will save the human race from the tyranny of the mutant threat.
"Isn't it beautiful, Gyrich?" Trask said with pride. "I call it Mastermold."
Sitting in a chair was a massive Sentinel, bigger than any others that came before it.
"Sentinel creation completed." Mastermold stated. Its chest opened up, and out came a newly constructed Sentinel that was grabbed by a mechanical arm to be lined up with the others.
"The manufacturing process is entirely self-contained." Trask established. "All it requires is an outside power source."
"Too much power, Dr. Trask." A new person said. "You blacked out half of Genosha last night."
In came two men. One of them was dressed up like your standard politician you would see on the news. The other was dressed in clothes that were appropriate for a ruler. He had white hair, which he kept in a ponytail.
"We'll have our own power grid once the dam is finished." Trask reminded him. "Then Mastermold's children will be able to track down mutants anywhere on the planet."
Gyrich offered his hand to the pony-tailed man. "Good to see you again, Colonel."
"I am called "Leader" now, Mr. Gyrich." The newly revealed leader spoke condescendingly to Gyrich. "Do not forget that."
The man in the suit shook Gyrich's hand. "Cameron Hodge. Development adviser to the government of Genosha."
"I understand there was a revolt by the slaves." The leader expressed.
"We allowed it to happen, to break their spirit." Trask boasted. "You should have seen their faces when I showed them who had betrayed them." The door opened to reveal two guards escorting a captured mutant. "He calls himself Gambit."
"You helped that girl when the Sentinel tried to capture her at Salem Center Mall. Were you also one of the mutants who attacked the Sentinel factory?" Gyrich interrogated him to find out who was behind the destruction of that factory.
"They call themselves the X-Men." Gambit specified.
"X-Men?" Gyrich was interested. "What is so special about these X-Men? Where can I find them?"
Gambit just gave the bigoted man a sassy reply. "If I tell you, maybe you don't need me no more. I think I better just take you there, whenever you're ready."
Gyrich wasn't buying this. "Why should I believe you'll betray your friends, you fellow mutants?"
"They're not my friends." Gambit divulged. "They don't like me; don't trust me. They're just using me, like you."
"Alright. We'll do it your way." Trask turned to the guards. "Take him back to the prison until we're ready for him."
Gambit was loaded into a hovercraft with a guard on his right and another on his left. As they were heading back to the construction area, Gambit pulled out his deck of cards. "You want to see a card trick?" He let go of his cards as they were swept up in the wind. Using this distraction, Gambit elbowed the two and jumped out of the hovercraft.
The hovercraft stopped as the guards attempted to apprehend the escapee. "Stop, mutant!" Then something weird happened: their vehicle exploded, knocking the guards out of the way. Gambit looked into the street and saw a rifle on the ground. As he reached for it, a foot stepped on it. Gambit looked up to see a man in military gear holding another rifle. He looked like he was ready to overthrow a hostile nation just on his own.
"Uh-uh." The newcomer said. "I'm looking for the one who calls himself the leader."
Gambit pointed back to the factory. "In the factory, beside the bridge." A laser came out of the bushes and nearly hit the two. The commando then shot his own blast at the tree that the shooter was hiding behind, vaporizing it and sending the guard into retreat. He then aimed his weapon at Gambit in case the Cajun would give him trouble.
"Who are you?" Gambit asked in amazement.
"The Wild Man of Borneo." The man simply said. "See you around." He started down the road towards the Sentinel facility.
Gambit thought that this man could be a useful ally, so he tried to recruit him. "The leader has made slaves of the mutants. Will you help me set them free?"
The man took out a key from his belt. "Here." He tossed it to Gambit. "I took that off one of those Genoshan goons a week ago." Gambit used it to unlock his collar. "Maybe you can use it."
Gambit was about to thank the man, but when he looked back, he was gone. "He reminds me of Danny, always disappearing with his invisibility act."
"Like right now?" Danny asked appearing next to Gambit, startling the poor mutant.
"You got to stop doing that." Gambit told him.
"What did you find out?" Danny inquired.
"They're making something real bad." Gambit briefed him. "Remy saw them making a special sentinel. You think Sentinels are big; wait til you see this one."
"We'll deal with it when we free the others." Danny gestured for Gambit to follow him.
Gambit grabbed a rifle and followed Danny back to the prison to free his friends, while Cable looked on from the forest before he went off on his own mission.
"Who is this man, the one the leader is so afraid of?" Gyrich asked Hodge. He, Hodge, and Trask were sitting down at a table, discussing this new development.
"His name is Cable." Hodge told him. "An American, apparently. He was a mercenary in the leader's army until he found out the leader wasn't the champion of democracy he claimed to be. We're not sure, but we suspect he's a mutant. So he threw his wages back in the leader's face and took to the hills to start a revolution."
The leader burst in. "Cable lives by his code, but he will not live long." He promised.
The sun shone down harshly on the prison. The heat was worse for Jubilee, who was still trapped in the box. "I always thought it'd be great to have a sauna."
She heard some kind of ruckus going on. She thought that maybe Storm was trying to make an escape attempt. "Storm!" Jubilee called out, not wanting her to get into more trouble. Her answer was being grabbed by a hand that came through the metal and pulled her through. She was met with the smiling faces of Danny and Gambit. "Gambit! Danny!"
Danny then phased Storm out of her prison. "We paid your bail, Storm."
Storm hugged Danny in gratitude. "I knew you would rescue us."
"You know me." Danny jested. "I can never resist causing another breakout. If Walker couldn't hold me, what chance do these idiots have?"
"You jerk!" Jubilee admonished Gambit. "You made me think you were a traitor! Why didn't you tell me you were just pretending?"
The guards noticed their escape and started to fire on them.
"Hey!" Jubilee was thrown over Gambit's shoulder as they all made a break for it. Danny shot an ecto-blast at the prison wall, creating a way out.
"How do you sweat so much, petite, and not lose weight?" Gambit asked her.
"Oh, I hate you!" Jubilee said to him.
When they managed to outrun their pursuers, Gambit used the key to unlock Jubilee and Storm's collars.
Now it was time to free the others.
"The collars you use to control your mutants." Gyrich wanted to know more about the creation of this technology. It would be extremely useful for his future plans.
"They were invented by a scientist in Scotland." The leader said. "A true genius."
"Could I get them in large numbers?" Gyrich asked as he thought of something he could use to bargain with the leader. "How much is it worth to you to have that man, Cable, eliminated?"
"How much can you pay?" The Leader was interested.
"When the dam is completed, we'll have the power to create thousands of Sentinels." Trask offered.
The Leader thought about it. "Your Sentinels make you a hard man to refuse."
"Your leadership!" A guard came in. "Four of the mutants have escaped! The one called Gambit freed them!"
Gyrich was furious at this betrayal. "I knew he couldn't be trusted!" He never should've trusted a mutant.
A blast came from the window at the table. "Get down." Gyrich ordered as they all leaped away from the explosion.
Standing on a tree branch outside the facility, Cable fired another shot at the antenna of the building.
Inside the facility, Mastermold surged with power as another Sentinel was being produced before the power went out.
Back at the prison, all the mutants could see the explosion of the facility in the distance.
"In line, mutants." One of the guards ordered. "No more work today."
The clouds then darkened as lightning rained down and struck two of the guards. Storm flew down like an angry goddess, ready to punish the humans and machines for their unjust cruelty.
Danny sighed as he saw several Sentinels coming towards him. He froze them as they crashed to the ground.
"These things are starting to annoy me as much as the Box Ghost." Danny said to himself.
Gambit grabbed a bucket filled with nuts and bolts and charged them. "Monsieur Sentinel!" He got the Sentinel's attention and threw it at it.
"Imminent danger." The Sentinel droned as it fell. "Initiate booster rocket!" Unfortunately, it crashed to the ground before it could activate its booster rockets.
The commander clutched the controller for the collars to his chest as he ordered a guard next to him. "Blast that mutant!"
Jubilee took out those guards from behind with her fireworks and snatched the controller. "Mind if I borrow this?" Pressing several buttons, she was able to successfully deactivate them this time.
"We can use our powers!" Sunfire announced as their collars fell off.
"The mutants are free!" A guard panicked.
The prison force attempted to take back control as they fired their weapons on the mutants. Without the collars, the mutants were free to use their powers to fight back against their oppressors.
Sunfire flew into the sky and unleashed his fire on one sentinel. One mutant created sonic waves to push back the guards. Another mutant was launching the machines into the air with just his fists alone.
"Happy landings, goon!" Blob ridiculed a guard as he lifted him up, preparing to rip him apart.
"Stop!" Storm objected. "You must not harm him!" Blob refused to listen as he threw the guard off a cliff. He would've fallen to his death if Storm hadn't summoned the wind to catch him. The guard was launched into Blob, knocking the obese mutant to the ground. "
Jubilee tried to get the other mutants to help them take down the Sentinels. "Now that you're free, you can help us stop the Sentinels."
"No!" Sunfire refused. "We follow you once before to disaster."
"Asshole." Danny insulted. "She turned your collars off. You wouldn't have gotten this far without her."
"Gambit has seen how the Sentinels are created." Storm tried to persuade them. "There will be thousands of them unless this dam is destroyed."
Sunfire still refused to help the X-Men. "We deal with the Sentinels when all of Genosha is ours."
"Genosha won't be yours until the Sentinels are destroyed." Danny argued.
This didn't faze Sunfire in the least. "Come on!" The mutants headed off on their own.
"Give me that key." Blob took the key from Jubilee as he stormed off with the others.
"You could at least say thank you!" Jubilee couldn't believe how ungrateful they were to them. After all they have done for them.
"Forget it, Jubilee." Danny said. "If they don't want to help save themselves from extinction, that's their problem. We'll take care of the dam by ourselves."
Gambit wasn't fully on board with that idea. "This dam's too big for us to bring down, non?"
"Yes," Storm agreed, "but a power greater than ours lies hidden within the clouds."
"You've been through enough, Storm." Danny told her, not wanting his friend to potentially kill herself. "But me." His eyes glowed green. "I haven't even warmed up."
Back at the factory, Gyrich was planning to leave. "This whole situation is collapsing. I'm going back to Washington."
"Gyrich!" Trask followed after him. "You're not going to abandon me!"
They left the room, unknowingly leaving Cable alone as he fired on the Sentinels.
"Halt!" They tried to stop him before exploding.
Cable went past them in his search for the leader.
Mastermold created another Sentinel, which began to pursue Cable.
"Take me to my car at once." The leader ordered his security force. They were about to leave when the door started glowing.
"The other way, you fool!" The leader ordered as the door exploded, letting Cable waltz on in.
"Remember me, Colonel?" Cable said ominously before he was blasted in the back by a Sentinel.
Cable fired at the Sentinel, but it only hit the ceiling above it. The Sentinel sent a blast that knocked Cable's weapon out of his hands. It would've finished him off if the ceiling above the Sentinel hadn't collapsed from Cable's shot, burying it in rubble.
Jubilee was afraid that Danny would overexert himself. "Please, Danny! You're not strong enough yet!"
"Get out of here!" Danny ordered.
"Come, petite." Gambit dragged her away. "We've got to let him be."
Danny closed his eyes and unleashed his ghostly wail on the dam. The sound waves from Danny bombarded the dam, forming cracks that had water dripping out. Eventually, the pressure became too much for the dam, and it started to collapse.
Danny was exhausted after that and fell as the ground beneath him began to break apart. Luckily, he was caught in the arms of Rogue. "You've been working too hard, sugar."
Danny was taken to the others as Jubilee embraced him in a hug.
"Oh, Danny! I was so worried about you."
"What? No hug for me?" The original Danny landed next to the duplicate and absorbed it back into him. He then examined Jubilee. "Everything alright? Nothing broken?"
"No, I'm fine." Jubilee grinned at her brother's worry. "Thanks to you."
"See? I told you she'd be fine." Rogue said.
"I'll never doubt you again, Rogue." Danny joked.
Rogue smirked. "Smart decision."
The leader was safe inside his limo as he was sitting next to Hodge. "Have you ever been to Switzerland, Mr. Hodge?"
The driver stepped on the brakes because something was in the middle of the road. Cable.
He fired on the car, prodding the leader, Hodge, and the driver to get out as the car exploded.
The driver pulled out a pistol, but Cable kicked it out of his hand and threw him out of his way.
The leader was crawling away as Cable got closer to him. "I thought you were going to bring democracy to Genosha." Cable said with no emotion in his voice. "I don't mind being wrong, as long as I can correct my mistakes." He held the leader off the ground with one hand.
"Drop that plasma rifle, or I'll fire!" Hodge threatened as he held Cable at gunpoint.
"Blast him, Hodge!" The leader pleaded. "Now!"
A deafening roar was heard as a wave started to come towards them. Cable laughed while the others looked fearful. The waves crashed against the Sentinel facility.
Inside, the Sentinels stood at attention while Mastermold got up from his chair. He stopped when he noticed that his leg was still connected to the chair by a wire. "I am still plugged in!" Mastermold stated as the wave came in, taking all the machines as its victims. The Sentinels, along with Mastermold, were all engulfed by the water.
The X-Men all met up at the Blackbird and took off into the skies.
"Cyclops to Xavier." Cyclops tried to patch through to the professor. "Come in, professor." No response. "There's no answer. Just static."
"You alright, Danny?" Rogue saw that Danny was holding his head like he was having a massive headache.
"I'm fine." Danny groaned. "It's just that whenever I absorb a duplicate, all of its memories come straight to my head, and it causes a bit of a headache as my brain sorts them out."
"I'm sorry I didn't trust you, Gambit." Jubilee apologized. "I mean, I should've known you'd never really be a traitor."
Gambit accepted her apology. "How do you know that, petite? Maybe you been fooled again, non?"
"Touchdown in two minutes." Cyclops informed the group. "I'm getting a visual on the..." He looked at the Xavier Institute and couldn't believe what he saw. "The school!"
"It can't be!" Rogue was bewildered as everyone else looked on to see that the Xavier Institute was destroyed.
